A New Poll Shows the Youngkin-McAuliffe Race for VA Governor Tied

Losing Karen.

With two weeks to go before Election Day, Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Glenn Youngkin are locked in a close battle for governor of Virginia. The last Monmouth University Poll of the race before the election marks a gain for the GOP candidate from prior polls. Youngkin's improved position comes from a widening partisan gap in voter engagement and a shift in voters’ issue priorities, particularly around schools and the pandemic.

Youngkin (46%) and McAuliffe (46%) hold identical levels of support among all registered voters. This marks a shift from prior Monmouth polls where the Democrat held a 5-point lead (48% to 43% in September and 47% to 42% in August)....

This is the first time the Republican has held a lead in Monmouth polls this cycle....

This says Youngkin has a lead, and the whole report moves him to the first-named candidate. The numbers they report say they're tied at 46% -- but I'm guessing that the unrounded numbers show Youngkin with a fractional advantage.

Independents are souring on McAuliffe as they sour on Biden:

The biggest swing in support from Monmouth's last poll comes from independent voters, registering a 48% to 39% lead for Youngkin now compared with a 37% to 46% deficit in September.

Karen doesn't know WHAT to think!!!

Youngkin has also cut into McAuliffe's advantage with women voters. The Democrat currently has a narrow edge among women (47% to 43%), down from a sizable 14-point lead last month (52% to 38%).

That's big.

This is causing Youngkin to gain in the reddest parts of the state --and the bluest, too. He's still behind in archliberal Northern Virginia, but McAuliffe's advantage has slimmed.

McAuliffe has slipped slightly in heavily-blue Northern Virginia. He leads there by 58% to 34%. This is down only slightly from his 58% to 29% lead last month, however, incumbent Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam won this key region by 35 points (67% to 32%) in 2017.

...

"Suburban women, especially in Northern Virginia, have been crucial to the sizable victories Democrats have enjoyed in the commonwealth since 2017. However, their support is not registering at the same level this time around. This is due partly to a shift in key issues important to these voters and partly to dampened enthusiasm among the party faithful," said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.

Part of that is Democrats losing enthusiasm for President Turnip Mash:

Looking at the national picture, President Joe Biden gets a negative 43% approve and 52% disapprove rating from Virginia voters, which is down from his 46% to 49% rating in August.

Voters have shifted their priorities to the economy and schools. And Youngkin has also gained on those issues, even as they've increased in salience.

And meanwhile the importance of covid falls, even as Youngkin gains on that issue as well.

Youngkin has drawn even with McAuliffe on being trusted more to handle education and schools (39% to 38%). He trailed the Democrat on this issue in September (33% to 37%) and August (31% to 36%). The Republican now holds a small trust advantage on jobs and the economy – 39% to 34% who trust McAuliffe more....

At the same time, McAuliffe's sizable advantage on handling the pandemic has shrunk. He now holds a 37% to 31% edge over Youngkin on being trusted more to handle Covid policies. This issue was a bigger winner for him in prior polls (41% to 28% in September and 38% to 26% in August).

The Federalist notes that McAuliffe has recently confirmed his belief that if a school decides to play along with (or encourage) a child's claim that he's transgender, they should keep this secret from the parents.

So that the school can encourage the transition behind the parents' backs.

Imagine the following as a Glenn Youngkin ad:

The number of youth confused about their gender is up over 1,000 percent.

If it's your child, Terry McAuliffe doesn't think you should know about their struggle. He would force schools to hide a student’s new name and pronouns from parents. He even supports policies where schools use the child's birth name with parents but a different name at school.

New genders without parental consent. Pitting parents against children. Terry McAuliffe's education agenda is bad for Virginia.

Shockingly, these claims are true. Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam signed a bill into law in March 2020 that mandates the Virginia Department of Education develop "model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools."

The model policies came out in April of this year, and they are frightening. McAuliffe proudly endorses them on his website. They mandate co-ed bathrooms for all, force teachers and students to accept and use new names and pronouns, and clear the way for boys to participate in girls' sports.

...

The most pernicious aspect of the model policies is the alarming mandate that schools not tell parents if their son or daughter has adopted a new gender at school: "If a student is not ready or able to safely share with their family about their gender identity, this should be respected."

The policies even suggest teachers use a child's birth name with parents but a name of the opposite sex at school. Apparently, McAuliffe has no objection to schools giving teachers the green light to deceive parents about their children's adoption of a false identity.

Yesterday, it was big news that Terry McAuliffe walked out of an interview, halfway through. Apparently he didn't like the questions being asked.

Here's what that anchor said:

So if you watch those entire interviews on our website, we do want to point out that the Terry McAuliffe interview is shorter than our interview with Glenn Youngkin. That was not by our doing.

Nick offered both candidates 20 minutes exactly to be fair for the interviews. McAuliffe abruptly ended 7News' interview after just ten minutes and told Nick that he should have asked better questions and that Nick should have asked questions 7News viewers care about. That's what he said.

This video is cued up to when he walks out:

Ed Morrissey pointed out that the reporter did ask about things that Virginia voters care about.

They're just things that McAuliffe doesn't want to talk about.

So what were the questions that McAuliffe thinks Virginians find uninteresting and unimportant? The transcript from WJLA shows Minock asking about...

McAuliffe's declaration that "parents shouldn't be telling schools what to teach"

State mandates on education topics and methods

Joe Biden and Merrick Garland making parent-school board disputes a federal law enforcement issue

Crime rate increases during McAuliffe’s first term

Public-safety funding

Vaccine mandates on public and private sectors, as well as schools

Those seem like pretty significant topics in this election, and certainly many Virginia voters will want to know about those issues -- especially now. McAuliffe responded in detail to them as well, but it became clear that he didn't especially like being scrutinized. Just before he walked out halfway through the interview, McAuliffe launched into the campaign commercial he apparently thought WJLA would allow the interview to be.

Yes, just before he walked out of the interview, he went into a two and a half minute filibuster that was just a scripted campaign statement, not offered in response to any question.

McCaulliffe cruised to victory in the Virginia gubernatorial election yesterday despite evidence of polling declines in the past several weeks. His opponent and the conservative media pounced on the Governor Elect over his comments regarding the freedom of educators in the state.

The polling decline clearly did not reflect a shortfall in McCaulliffe's grass-roots support throughout the state. Exit polling on the day of the election as well as voter turnout gave early indications that he would likely win the race. Virginians have spoken clearly and loudly and they have demonstrated that key Republican platform planks - from abortion to ideological interference with teacher freedom - are not a winning strategy in Virginia.

Not planned. The left slowly removed the culture and institutions which formed the foundation of our society, and the whole edifice is finally collapsing all at once. In such conditions, a lot of vulnerable people who relied on those supports are desperately looking for something to cling to, and finding the trans movement. If it wasn't transgenderism, it would clown-identity, radical Mennonism, or something else.

Two things immediately come to mind:
-- Entertainment industry and Social Media normalizing this, encouraging this, even getting toddlers to start to question their sexual identity

-- There is BIG money in this, as each trans is hooked on a lifetime's supply of hormone treatment. You'll notice that sex change treatment has been mandated for a lot of healthcare plans (military, prison, Obamacare, etc.). Also, biggest vendor of these drugs is - wait for it! - Planned Parenthood.

Are people really that fickle? Do they really change their minds that quickly?

No, that was when Gavin's crew flipped it from being "Get rid of Gavin" to "Newsom vs Elder".

A lot of people didn't know Elder, and a lot of people who knew of him didn't want him. A lot of people voted for the devil they knew.

I think the state GOP (mostly useless) and the potentially useful candidates justifiably saw a train wreck coming and decided to step back.

201 There is a finite limit on the margin of fraud.

A Republican actually got elected to be Secretary of State a few years ago in Oregon - he was running against the least popular politician in the state, and his margin was big enough that Portland's county didn't try to steal the election, although I'm sure they would have done so if the election had been closer.

Even if Youngkin loses, there is still political benefit in making the electoral theft as blatant as possible - you don't want to make it easy for them.

202 After all, there were black parents at school board meetings protesting CRT, and no black parents want to think of their kid being raped in the school by a tranny and the school board arresting the father. I also think that the fact that the Lieutenant Governor, Mark Robinson is R will have some spillover.
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at October 21, 2021 12:21 PM (ueGNX)

Fen - all the information rushes at us it's hard to keep track. Robinson is in NC, not VA. The Lt Governor race in Virginia is between two women of color. The Republican Winsome Sears is a former marine, and is very charismatic and she is right on the issues. She probably brings vote to Youngkin on the ticket. Her opponent Hala Ayala is "Afro-Latina/Lebanese." She is very Karen-ish.

If you look at the Loudoun County school board meetings, you don't see very many Blacks there. The Black population is really centered around Richmond and Chesapeake and other cities, and while CRT does not poll well with them, TMac (as they call him) is very popular in the black voting population in VA.

I forwarded your e-mail to my primary reader, to see what she thinks. Obviously, the book won't be out this year, but perhaps by my birthday in February. One thing I am going to keep is the opening / closing frames, which I know you don't like; I look at it as a parallel to a Trek or Bond - you know the character isn't going to die, but the suspense is in how they manage to survive.

But this is really a discussion for us to have offline. I will respond in depth over the weekend, when I am not working.

What pisses me off is that they're lying to the kids. First by ludicrously convincing them that they're somehow in the "wrong" bodies, and then by not telling them the truth about what "transitioning" will mean.

They convince kids that they'll be "stunning and brave" if they announce they're transgender, and that their lives will improve and their problems will disappear once they "transition." It's total bullshit, of course, but many of these kids don't have the first clue what they're really in for: a lifetime of sexual dysfunction, chronic dissatisfaction with the way their bodies look and function, and in many cases sterility.

There was a good article the other day about why puberty blockers should not be given to kids. The article was written by two of the top "transition surgery" docs, both of whom are trannies themselves. The NYT refused to publish the article, because it doesn't fit the left's bullshit "transitioning is great and easy" fairy tale. It is absolutely outrageous the lies and damage that the left is doing to so many kids' lives.

There is, because there comes a time when you can't make it look legitimate. There is a point at which the margin of fraud breaks down because you can't manufacture enough votes to build a credible victory story.

What we saw in 2020, however, is that the margin of fraud does not exist for major national offices. They don't care about legitimacy or credibility. They yelled YOLO, crossed the Rubicon, and got away with it. The margin of fraud for the presidential and important senate elections is undefined. Whether that's also true for governor's offices remains to be seen.

Everyone I know that voted for Biden choose him the second the Dems nominated him. And their support never changed.

If you pick a state, say WI, the polling varied from Trump +7 to Biden +17. So, if you believe that is accurate 1/5 votes, at least, at various points switched (or switched to not voting I suppose).

I don't believe that, and I would love to meet actual real voters that feel into this camp.

The myth of the 'moderate' Democratic congressman. The Dem Party is run by the longtime liberals who are in safe ultra-blue districts. Too few of them to make a majority by themselves, they depend upon a compliant MSM to get a bunch of 'moderates' elected in swing districts. This gives the libs the power to actually get their agenda passed, but it also requires the mods to commit electoral suicide to do so. They comply, the country suffers, but it takes a few years for the rubes in the swing states to forget what they did before. They always do it again, unfortunately.

A Republican actually got elected to be Secretary of State a few years ago in Oregon - he was running against the least popular politician in the state, and his margin was big enough that Portland's county didn't try to steal the election, although I'm sure they would have done so if the election had been closer.

Dennis Richardson was running against Brad Avakian who would have lost against Elmer Fudd, and who's prior work at Bureau of Labor and Industries was memorable in its crackdown on non-work related internet use by BOLI staff.

But Dennis died suddenly from a cancer that doesn't normally kill that way. All those promises to audit state agencies swept away.

Good old fashioned ballot box stuffing in Richmond and Arlington could do a lot to help get McAullife over the line, but it doesn't do much for the 100 House of Burgess seats being chosen at the same time.

The legislature in VA could go pretty heavily red with a Democratic governor. Could be interesting.

309 I think the average normal person just can't understand, and therefore has a hard time believing, that any group would want to take the richest country in the world and destroy its prosperity and bankrupt its people.

So, I'll just point out, that first, those countries who are lesser, human nature being what it is, like nothing better than to take Richie Rich down a peg. Also, there is significant wealth to be created during the fall of a great nation, both in its fall, and in the rising of another nation to take its place. Nationalism is antithetical to the commoditization of both the state, and the state's people. Globohomo cares nothing for any country, nor its "people", as they are all interchangeable at the necessity for a return on investment.

324 Newsome linked Elder to Trump - plus he has a huge natural voter base - and California has mail in balloting and a very loose ballot security process.

Virginia doesn't have that level of machine. They have very motivated blue voters in Northern Virginia whose livelihood depends on the further expansion of DC power. That is the natural dem selling point. They have no morals or scruples. They want the gravy train to continue. They are cowards.

It takes alot to snap them out of their cowardice. But the feds, through the CRT/Trans school movement, managed to do it. How violated these dem voters must be. We gave you our votes without thinking, we believed every lie you said in order to fool those bumpkins to the south. And then what? You came after OUR kids!

Consider it the woman scorned effect. There is no machine as we think of it in Chicago or Detroit or Milwaukee in Northern Virginia. And McAwful has turned those voters against him doing just that. He's in freefall - and I'll bet he will be lucky to win by 5% up there. And that's not enough for the drubbing he will take everywhere else.

333 If you wanted to fix polling, I think you'd have to get a group of people to agree to be polled for years.

Try to get a reflective group but, and here is the magic, your real control is to get them to agree to tell you who they voted for. You can then compare that to the formal vote counts (I know those are doctored too).

If your people went 55-45 for Biden in a state that went 60-40 Biden you are +5 Conservative and then can use than for future polls.

Still open to lying and fraud of course, but it would give other people the ability to try and replicate your numbers.

343 I do not believe that Youngkin is benefitting from poor Biden polling. There really isn't that explicit a Biden-McAuliffe tie other than party. McAuliffe was a reasonably popular governor who is a Clintonite style lib that gives out/promises goodies to all the "right" people. He does not for the most part fly the purple haired freak flag as a Democrat.

With the Loudoun County news happening, McAuliffe was inexorably tied to the bad guy side because he is in thrall to the teacher's unions. Then he stepped on his crank in a debate and someone on Youngkin's team - who had stayed out of the school board thing prior - capitalized. Seriously - a month ago he was pitching a middle class tax cut for Virginians like it was 1998 or something.

366 The Monmouth University Poll explains why McAuliffe terminated an interview when asked challenging but reasonable questions by a reporter a couple of days ago. Odds on McAuliffe, at the time of the interview, had internal polling numbers showing him getting smoked by the voters because he is leading UniParty asshole. In an election system that required people to show ID to vote and vote in person on paper ballots McAuliffe would be writing is concession speech at this time. But that isn't how elections are conducted in the Marxist UniParty states. I still have $5.00 that McAuliffe will have a stunning come from behind victory after the polls close in a handful of precincts. In other words, voting is for losers, counting is for winners. I hope to be roasted for being wildly wrong.

367 Isn't the conventional wisdom that an incumbent polling under 50% is in trouble, even if he's supposedly far ahead, e.g. 48-44? Don't undecided voters tend to break for the challenger? (Quick Bing says Yes, though some deny it because it makes them sad.)

McAuliffe isn't technically an incumbent, but he is a Democrat, like the blackface-Klansman incumbent (not allowed to run for reelection), and he's a not-very-long-ago former governor running against a political neophyte, which makes him the closest thing Virginia ever has to an incumbent on the gubernatorial ballot.

If the polls are accurate in making it a 46-46 race, McAuliffe should lose big.

368 I don't care, even if Younkin (a Romney-esque squish) gets past the margin of fraud, Virginia is done, unless some enterprising President actually follows through with the scattering of the government agencies. THEN when those vermin are dispersed across the country, Virginia MIGHT have a chance to return to what it was. Until then, NoVA will rule the rest of the state like Chicago does Illinois.

369 Yeah Trump did the trillions in porkulus because he thought it was the politically right thing to do. Regardless of the reason, he did it as did the GOP senate. But somehow it's all Biden's fault.

I'm not defending Biden. But to say that the inflation we're seeing now is 100% Biden's fault is disingenuous.

373 Last word on "Trump's profligate spending" lol; I ain't carrying this over to future threads.

Bush 43 - National Debt doubled.
Obama - National Debt doubled.
Trump - National debt increased from 19.5 T to nearly 27 T, a factor of only about 27%, nearly half of which was due to pandemic spending in a time in which we were all going to time and very little of what we now know was known (1Q2020).

Profligate spending my ass.

They are fake almost exclusively in the Democrats favor.

It would be one thing if one poll showed a Dem winning by 10 and another showing the Republican winning by 10. More easily forgiven.

But 99% of the time, it goes one way. So its premeditated

election day the double digit lead ends up being a whisker. And no one calls them out on it.

Nope. The logic says the GOP is just as complicit in cheating as the DEMS. They brokered a deal about 20 yrs ago to split up the country. The red wall blue wall is a construct of that. The GOP took the junior party role. Every national GOP politician is the beneficiary of the scam. Remmeber when Mitch was ready to concede and then bang he won? Just like Harry Reid in NV.

Another conclusion is that the "black vote" meme is bullshit too. It was always facially preposterous but with this level of control it has been a fig leaf for decades.

There is no "margin of fraud". He has to hope Barry has control of Dominion and screws McCauliffe to end the Clinton faction in electoral politics.

Uhm no. Going from 19.5 to 27 is an increase of 39%. Which is about what Bush and Obama did their first term.

5/10 = 50%, or a doubling.
10/20 = 50%, or a doubling.
7.5/27 = 27.78% or an increase of about a third.

384 Electing Glen Youngkin in VA sends exactly the wrong message to the GOP, both in VA and nationally. It rewards their feckless complicity. It plays right into their dream scenario of being a fund-raising minority party most of the time, then being caretakers of the ruling class state when voters hand them a majority.

The GOP needs to be shown what happens when you piss American voters off. I'm voting 3rd party. Youngkin and the GOP can f- themselves. The GOP needs to suffer a bloodbath at the hands of their own voters. Destroy every last Rhino squish who thinks they're in a "safe" seat. I'll roll the dice on state governors to fight off the abuses of Democrat majorities. We've survived FDR, Johnson, Wilson, Carter, and Obama. We can survive 2 years of Harris & Newsome having both houses of congress.

The GOP needs to burn in a mattress fire until they can be replaced from within by actual pro-American representatives.

385 That don't-tell-the-parents was in proposed Michigan guidelines floated during the Snyder administration. To say that we teachers and coaches torched it in the commentary is understatement. Evidently VA teachers/coaches don't care as much.

BTW there were still guidelines sent out, toned down. Because that's the way the LGBTQ+ lobby works: propose the most outrageous scenarios, take the heat, and pretend to "compromise" on something that shouldn't be recommended in the first place.

387 The problem is it's a lot easier to steal a state election than a national one. Unless Youngkin is up by 10, and Terry is caught on camera screaming the N word at a server at a restaurant, they'll be able to easily fudge the votes they need to.
