Joe Manchin: I Might Quit the Democrat Party

In recent days, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) has told associates that he is considering leaving the Democratic Party if President Joe Biden and Democrats on Capitol Hill do not agree to his demand to cut the size of the social infrastructure bill from $3.5 trillion to $1.75 trillion, according to people who have heard Manchin discuss this. Manchin has said that if this were to happen, he would declare himself an "American Independent." And he has devised a detailed exit strategy for his departure.Manchin also said he would not support any Green New Deal tax on carbon:
Democrat Senator Jon Tester also said he wasn't sold on a carbon tax. Note that the Democrats' spending plans also include huge tax increases. And it's the tax increases which give them the space to claim the spending will not add to the deficit. If the taxes are cut, then the spending must be cut as well. At least, a naive person would imagine that. A less naive person would say the Democrats would just keep their spending at historic levels and add to the deficit and just stop saying the bill will not add to the deficit. A non-naive person would say they'll spend, add to the deficit, but continue to insist the bill does not add to the deficit anyway, knowing the DNC operatives in the media will never contradict them. Democrats have suddenly lowered their demand from $3.5 trillion to a mere $2 trillion. Maybe due to realizing that Manchin isn't budging, and if he does budge, it's to abandon the party.

As for Manchin, if he really felt this way he would have left thre dems years ago, it's not like WV is a Dem strong hold. He always used his vote as a way to get stuff, and now he's not getting his way. The only way his leaving the party means anything is if he caucuses with the Republicans, though i have a feeling that would cause a Republican senator or two to also leave the party, turn independent, and caucus with the Dems to make sure they keep power.

Here's my thing about this theory:
Senators are cheap and this is a very large bill. Would it really be that hard to write in another $20 million to be directed at some company that Manchin's son owns or something? Wouldn't that have happened weeks ago?
I think Manchin is planning on running for re-election in 2024, and he is trying to thread some kind of needle based on his own WV polling. Getting his own piece but also trying to ensure that he gets re-elected.

It's for my daughter's marching band. We have our busy schedule coming up, including a trip to San Antonio (from DFW area) then Indianapolis. The reefers are for heat requirements. We have xylophones and vibes along with drums that need to keep temperatures in the 70's. Reefers need to be 26 ft trucks and non CDL requirements to fit the percussion equipment and the sleepers are for our two semi trailers. We have 2 day cabs currently, but need the sleepers to have our drivers make the long trip to Indy as efficient as possible.

We're attempting short term leases currently and have 1 box truck and 2 day cabs from MHC. They're trying to get us what we need, but other customer contracts are taking priority over us, so we are losing out each week.
We'll need the trucks for a month, not finished with them until November 15th, minimum.

Actually some big box stores are contracting with specific sea hauling firms who run smaller ships than the big ships. And they are going to Florida ports. It's a few weeks longer - but at least you can get your goods to market. A few weeks is better than a few months of waiting for Newsome to let your things come ashore.
