How bad is the whole airport situation in general though? Or maybe not that bad?

My most memorable airport music situation came while I was going through the Buffalo airport at some ungodly early hour and realized they were actually playing Brian Eno's "Music for Airports"...in the airport! And it sounded AWESOME. The only time I've ever heard that piece in its intended environment. Something about the mostly-deserted, red-eye flight time of the night just fit the music perfectly.

134 The Wiki page has the title as Old Man with his Grandson, which adds depth to the image. I like the detail in their faces, the old man's with wrinkles and warts against the smooth skin and unmarked features of the child. The relationship is captured in the use of the same colors in their complexions and the very similar expressions, especially with their eyes. The slight smile and knowing amusement on the face of the old man does juxtaposes with the child's innocence. It is a gentle image of love and knowledge. Very attractive.

I also like the detail of the landscape seen through the window. (I think that 'through the window' use was a style of the period.) Reminds me of the Mona Lisa.

Check out some of Ghirlandaio's other paintings on the Wiki page. They have a startling level of complex detail and are worth a look.

155 About the forehead...

"The painting's provenance is uncertain until 1880, when it entered the Louvre, and then only after it was rejected by the Kaiser Friedrich Museum in Berlin out of concern for its condition. Several commentators in the late 19th century reported that the picture had been abraded by overcleaning, and there were disfiguring scratches on the man's face. In 1996 the scratches and areas of discolored inpainting were removed, and the painting was cleaned and retouched."

Mind you, I don't know if CBD's version is the cleaned and restored 1996 version or an earlier version with the damage.

A couple of things it doesn't do that I kind of miss (but have adapted to):

- Wireless charging. It was nice just being able to set my phone on a pad instead of plugging it in. That said, though, if you use a charger designed for the phone, it charges really quickly

- No flashing light when I've got messages. I have to wake up the phone to check.

Agreed, the three-day battery is great. They're not too cluttered up with bloatware (lookin' at you, Samsung), performance is good, camera is adequate.

One thing to pay attention to is that at least as of the G7/G8 range, the South American versions, which are typically the cheapest on Amazon, had two SIM slots and twice the internal memory, did not have NFC and depending on carrier may not have all the US bands necessary. Ngoy entered the US on a student visa in 2012, but remained after the visa was terminated in 2015, and was protected from deportation by the immigration system despite multiple convictions.

Federal regulators will meet over the next two weeks to weigh the benefits of giving shots to kids, after lengthy studies meant to ensure the safety of the vaccines. Within hours of formal approval, expected after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory meeting scheduled for Nov. 2-3, doses will begin shipping to providers across the country, along with smaller needles necessary for injecting young kids, and within days will be ready to go into the arms of kids on a wide scale. -AP

According to the announcement, the White House has secured enough to supply more than 25,000 doses for pediatricians and primary care physicians who have already signed up to deliver the vaccine, while the country now has enough Pfizer vaccine to jab roughly 28 million kids who will soon be eligible, meaning this won't be a slow roll-out like we saw 10 months ago when doses and capacity issues meant adults had to wait.

Meanwhile, the White House is rolling out an 'advertising' campaign to convince parents and kids that the vaccine is safe and effective.

Meanwhile, the White House is rolling out an 'advertising' campaign to convince parents and kids that the vaccine is safe and effective. According to the report, "the administration believes trusted messengers - educators, doctors, and community leaders - will be vital to encouraging vaccinations."

"COVID has also disrupted our kids lives. It's made school harder, it's disrupted their ability to see friends and family, it's made youth sports more challenging," said surgeon general Dr. Vivek Murthy in a Wednesday statement to NBC. "Getting our kids vaccinated, we have the prospect of protecting them, but also getting all of those activities back that are so important to our children."

According to Murthy, the administration is leaving the question of mandates for school, local and state officials. To top it all off, CDC Chief Rochelle Walensky says her agency will still recommend that children wear masks in schools even after the vaccine is approved for kids.

Pretty much every Zombie movie starts with the premise that some new medical wonder drug wasn't tested long enough before they just started giving it to every one.

I used to think that was dumb - who would be crazy enough to do that in our sue crazy America.

But now I see we took companies with a history of doing just that - hello Pfizer! - and gave them immunity form being sued.

I still think some red state governor should sue anyway. Let the SC say you can't sue Pfizer for giving you life long damage to your heart for their clot shot.

295 Speaking of animals, I mentioned this on the Tech thread. Chekov the Ailing Codger Cat, age 14, is doing a little bit better. Every day he seems to move a fraction ahead of where he was the day before. He still moves like an old cat with a poor gait, but he's eating more enthusiastically, spending more time out in the living room instead of the bedroom, not hiding under furniture, etc.

If he were a human running a marathon, he'd be at mile 18, and the commentators would be counting him out . . . yet he continues to plod forward.

Since we've got his food settled, all the same Rx stuff, I wonder if I could bring his adopted brother Wolf back, even if just for a visit. Maybe he misses the big black cat. He grew up with other cats, and he and Wolf have been roommates and playmates for 10 years.

308 Of course, everything being done to the January 6th defendants is a direct violation of the 8th amendment. Excessive bail, although according to leftist lawyers, no bail is not excessive for trespassing, and one dollar bail would be excessive. Solitary for 9 months for trespassing, certainly seems both "cruel and unusual" punishment. The people convicted of trespassing have been fined excessively too.

So the government has managed to violate every single part of the 8th amendment. I guess the Dems must be planning on housing soldiers in private homes, since the 3rd seems to have escaped their grasp so far.

'Komm, frau' as in 1945 Berlin?

Truth is, we don't have to go that far. Pretty much any 'sexual emergency' experienced by one of the Moslem migrants welcomed into the EU by Mutti Merkel can be rationalized under this standard. Remember, the principle of consent was repudiated in 2021.

Dear Panera Bread,

I share your concerns.

The best thing we can really do for the environment is to shut down restaurants and encourage people to eat at home instead of driving all over town to restaurants.

Will you help join the movement to permanently shutter all restaurants, or are you just all talk?

Sincerely,

The one thing that all American businesses could do that would make the most difference in "climate change" for the world is join together to demand China meet the same "greenhouse gas emissions" targets as the rest of the world.

Short of that, anything any American company does "for the planet" is nothing but virtue-signaling.

The PHS has been around for a long, long time. It's always been a quasi-military department like the Coast Guard, NOAA, and Merchant Marine. A couple of centuries ago it was primarily focused on providing medical treatment for mariners in our ports and managing quarantine to make sure immigrants and seamen didn't spread diseases.

A long time ago, the Surgeon General got Vice Admiral rank. When the position of Assistant Secretary for Health was created in the 60's, somebody decided that the SG's boss should outrank him and made it a 4-star Admiral if the Assistant Secretary wanted it. As best I can tell, about 1/3 of the time the Assistant Secretary takes the rank, about 1/3 of the time the Assistant Secretary remains a civilian, and about 1/3 of the time the SG serves as acting Assistant Secretary.
