from wiki:
The Incoherents (Les Arts incoherents) was a short-lived French art movement founded by Parisian writer and publisher Jules Levy(French) (1857-1935) in 1882, which in its satirical irreverence, anticipated many of the art techniques and attitudes later associated with the avant-garde and anti-art movements such as Dada. I really like Rusinol's landscapes. This painting shows the same attention to soft detail (to make up a bad term) but it is rather depressing. No one is having a good time to judge by their expressions. Are they early and expecting another day of dreary drink and company? Are they still there late, perhaps as the sun comes up, and numb from the booze? It would make a great illustration for a depressing post-WW I European story.
It's not a bad painting. It's just not an enjoyable scene. Glad to know the artist even if his other paintings are more attractive for my taste. Posted by: JTB at October 21, 2021 08:48 AM (7EjX1) 112

Three simple steps to success:
Try to assassinate the president to impress Jodie Foster Spend a few decades in the loony bin Get released and then pimp your Spotify and YouTube channels on Twitter I'm not made of stone, so I checked out Hinckley's Spotify. It's just him singing and playing an acoustic guitar, sort of desultory country-rock, and it sucks ass. He writes hit songs like he kills presidents. Jodie ain't gonna like this either. And now you don't have to listen for yourself. You're welcome. Posted by: John Hinckley Critic at October 21, 2021 08:49 AM (RHGPo) 119

The turn of the century attempt at Hooters in France was a miserable failure. Wall art consists of your waiter, a risqué guy daring to take off his top hat, and a few used car sale banners hung from the ceiling.

Two precincts in Pima had over 100% turnout for mail-in ballots which is impossible and 40 precincts had over 97% returned. The national mail-in ballot return rate was 71%, but in Pima County the mail-in ballot return rate was 15% higher, and 19% higher than all the counties combined in the entire state of Arizona. One precinct with 99.5% mail-in turnout had 9,812 ballots counted. Another precinct with 100.6% turnout had 2,182 ballots returned, but only 2,170 mail-ins were ever sent.

>>Are we talking about thr show, or his stand up? I would say both are funny in their own way. His TV show was the stream of consciousness and the Id, Ego and SuperEgo of Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld as distilled through the primary actors of the show. His standup is straight up old man observational humor, which if your old like me, is funny too. Posted by: Thomas Bender at October 21, 2021 10:39 AM (z4I4W) 534

I don't care about McGowan one way or the other, I guess. She at least seems to believe the things she says, which, agree or disagree with what she is saying, is pretty rare in public discourse these days. But I don't really want her on my side any more than I want Maher on my side. People on the right who are adopting her as a pet because they like her at the moment will be bit eventually. She's not one of us.

The brief is we're trying to determine if the 7mm stone that was working its way out will leave on its own. Further, the 'mother stone' that's been resident in my left kidney long enough I should charge it rent has shifted into a troublesome position, and will need to be removed. A more recent comedian I've found rather funny is John Mulaney. He's got a few specials on Netflix. His pre-Trump shows are non-political, and hilarious. Post-Trump, he's mostly non-political, but always has a decidely unfunny bit about Trump, so best just to skip over that.
In fact, in one of his specials, he announces when he's going political, and a button pops up on the screen that lets you skip that part, and it jumps you to a point where he finishes off with "and that's how I came to love Trump" Posted by: No One of Consequence at October 21, 2021 10:55 AM (CAJOC) 586

I actually looked this up yesterday. The Surgeon General has been a 3-star admiral for many years. When the position of Assistant Secretary of Health was created in the 60's, someone had the bright idea that the Assistant Secretary should outrank the SG. It appears that about 1/3 of the time the AS takes the 4-star rank, about 1/3 of the time he/she (or he-she) remains a civilian, and about 1/3 of the time the SG serves as the acting AS. Back in HS, I had a coach for homeroom who was also a World History teacher. He was dumb as a stump, but in homeroom (which was 3rd period or something like that) we would watch The Price is Right, and homeboy could nail a showcase.

There's an awful lot of "military ranks" showing up in the junta. The freak running UPHS, National Guard showing up at hospitals to "help out", also showing up to potentially drive trucks to ease the supply chain issues and so on.
Seems like they're priming us to get used to having "military ranks" running various institutions. Makes one almost wonder why. Posted by: Martini Farmer - Pronoun is Omnipotent Ruler of the Universe at October 21, 2021 11:07 AM (BFigT) 631

This weekend my daughter is being inducted into the Order of the Arrow. My son and I will be there to watch the ceremony. We were inducted this past spring. If we didn't have that going on, we'd probably be visiting my mother-in-law who is still in the hospital. Life is insane right now. Posted by: reason at October 21, 2021 11:08 AM (ePZfA) 635

Once they got divorced, they actually had a very friendly relationship. They genuinely loved each other (according to their kids and their friends), Lucy just couldn't take all Desi's cheating during the marriage.
