James Bond Movie "No Time to Die" Flops in US

Goldfinger couldn't kill Bond, but relentless Woke Marketing did the job.

Some reviewers have said the movie isn't as woke as the marketing campaign, interview blitz, and early trailers (featuring Bond being disrespected by a WOC 007) promised.

Okay.

So why did they promise that in the first place?

Long-awaited James Bond movie No Time To Die makes a disappointing $56m in its opening weekend in the US - compared to $35m in the UK (which has five times fewer people and no vaccine or mask mandates)

No Time to Die scored $56 million in the box office opening weekend, despite being delayed over a year and Daniel Craig's last role as the title character

But it brought in $35 million in the UK – which has about five times fewer people and no requirements for guests to be vaccinated or wear masks

It also flopped in comparison to the four previous films starring Craig as Bond
Venom 2 was the biggest box office success of the pandemic and scored $80 million in its first weekend earlier this month

...

No Time To Die had been predicted to make up to $60m in the US in its opening weekend, with its disappointing total falling far short of the $80m post-COVID record set by Venom 2 last week.

By comparison, No Time To Die made $35m during its opening weekend in the United Kingdom after being released there on September 30.

...

The United States' most populous city, New York, requires all moviegoers to show proof of vaccination, although they don't have to wear masks inside.

New Orleans and San Francisco have also ordered moviegoers to show proof of vaccination.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles - home to the US entertainment industry, and an avid population of cinemagoers - has ordered people to mask-up indoors regardless of vaccination status, making the classic moviegoing experience far less relaxed than usual. LA will also enforce a vaccination mandate from November 4.

lol.

The entertainment industry has cartelized on this point, reasoning: "If we make every male entertainment property woke, disgusting conservative-leaning men (spit) will have to give us money for it, because they'll have no choice!"

Won't we though?

Meanwhile, Hollywood cannot stop itself from building one woke bomb after another. Watch the trailer below and count how many ways it annoys you.

Let's check in with Grace Randolph, who summarizes my feelings about Jessica Chastain:

13 The Critical Drinker did a review of it. His assessment: it was nowhere near as bad as he expected based on the trailers, and that it isn't great but is by no means the unmitigated disaster that everyone was predicting.

But that it is also too late. This movie was destroyed by its woke marketing more than it was destroyed by its actual wokeness.

Okay.

So why did they promise that in the first place?

==========

Because marketing promised EON that audiences want wokeness. They did their research on Twitter.

I saw a complaint from someone who was saying that marketing had lied to them. They wanted the black agent to play a huge role in the film, potentially taking over the franchise. Instead, she's apparently a small part of it overall and it's definitely Bond's movie.

Why include that in early marketing so much? Because Twitter wanted it. The idea of the 4 quadrant appeal is dead to marketers, which is werid.

It would be a LOT of money.

But hey I actually read beyond the headline of a culture/entertainment post, which is history-making.

33 Hollywood clearly doesn't care about making money. If they did, they'd make a he-man action movie with an actual story. That would work.

A romantic comedy - a real one, like from the 80s or 90s - would work, too. RomComs work well and usually make some money.

A kid's movie would work, too. A real one, with a simple story, non-destructive narrative and a couple of more grown-up things for the parents to enjoy. Pixar is the best at this, but they're not alone.

Yet they do none of this. Because they don't care about money.

I rewatched Thunderball and the long and slow underwater scenes aren't as long and slow as I remembered.

They thought -- rightly -- that these were some amazing sequences, never before staged in a movie, and therefore were worth spending a lot of film on. And for 1965 audiences, that was correct.

As the decades have passed, the underwater sequences don't have the Wow factor they did in 1965. Still, not as slow and long as I remembered.

All that false entertainment shit is over. This is really the REAL Great Reset. The realization that what passes for "entertainment" is really propaganda shit, and if you want to keep your sanity, stay away from it.
If you watch it will either make you incandescently angry or make you submissive to the Woke Narrative.

Kind of like the Reivers in the "Firefly" universe.

Hollywood, and entertainment generally, won't stop until everything has been re-manufactured with the Total Woke Factor in it. Resent it, submit to it, or ignore it.
I choose to ignore it.

==========

My problem is two fold. The first is the slowness of the action. An action scene where everyone is slowed down is weird to watch. The other is the emotional disconnect. We don't see anyone's faces clearly. Even in closeups it's unclear who we're looking at. There's this real disconnect between the audience and what's happening on screen (that's also really slow) so it becomes harder to care about who wants what MacGuffin.

It's about the key term "content".

In theaters, a movie can be an event. Something people need to go out and watch.

Added to a streaming channel, it's suddenly just another bit of content to wade through. It's less special and individualized to the audience. It becomes lost in the morass of stuff that Netflix puts out on a weekly basis.

I read somewhere that MI6 or CIA did a follow up with director of Thunderball after its release. They were interested in the compact breathing apparatus and wondered if it actually worked. They did not take into consideration the multiple shots of the underwater scene.

Not surprising that the traditional Superman has been killed off. The entire agenda of the Left, as long as I've been alive, is the destruction of anything that seems to symbolize any kind of "American Way."

So they were forced to reshoot about half the movie, cut out the woke bullshit, and it still flopped because people were already turned off.

I'm not saying getting eaten by a shark is my Plan A (I avoid the water at all costs, because the sea is not my friend), but it'd be relatively quick between the massive trauma, blood loss, shock, and accompanying drowning if you somehow survived momentarily. Being gutshot and bleeding would probably be a lot more miserable. Besides, there'd be the split second moment where your mind would hiccup: Can you believe this shit? We're being eaten by a shark!

244 Again not in the books. The first Bond movie is Dr No but in the books it is after From Russia With Love. Bond barely survived being poisoned by Rosa Kleb( his Beretta with silencer got hung up when he tried to draw it) which is why they have the whole change to the Walther PPK . They send him to Jamaica for a rest thinking the missing agents simply ran away together . Dr No is the first Bond villain in the books not working for the Soviets.

245 Which, considering how they poison everything they touch with the kiss of Death, might be the point.

Regardless of whether their reimaginings of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek or James Bond are successful, they have accomplished one valuable goal of the left these days: they have destroyed something we valued. That they cannot subvert these things and turn them into cash cows are irrelevant, the biggest victory is psychological- on both sides.

Okay, women do like action movies, but they like action movies like I like romantic comedies: only the best stuff, and usually with other elements added into the mix.

Men will pay money to see mediocre and even inferior action movies just because they like the genre. Women will not do that. They are not that enamored of the genre.

You cannot make action movies with women (and male feminist allies (rapists)) as your target audience.

261 Okay, women do like action movies, but they like action movies like I like romantic comedies: only the best stuff, and usually with other elements added into the mix.

Men will pay money to see mediocre and even inferior action movies just because they like the genre. Women will not do that. They are not that enamored of the genre.

You cannot make action movies with women (and male feminist allies (rapists)) as your target audience.

With variations of that theme.

So stupid.

I think the problem with The Expanse, books and show, is that it wasn't planned out well enough. There's no series 'ending' that you're working towards. That keeps it from greatness.

IMO is was the most classically liberal piece of art I've seen recently.

He sets up a show telling you exactly how and why he's doing something so that the people who are outraged prove his exact point. And then they still end up outraged. He plays the kooky left like a fiddle. He says he agrees with many of their ends, just not the means, and they want to murder him for it.

Was I laughing out loud the whole time? Of course not. But I sincerely appreciated what he did. My sense is we'd disagree on much but agree that people who want to shut others up are bad. Bad opinions shouldn't be banned or actionable and Tweet-length tribalism has made the world exhausting.

418 I love these movies where a 130 lb. female underwear model kicks the shit out of a 230 lb. man who's practically made of solid muscle. In reality the guy would simply laugh and knock her through the wall. It was an interesting idea thirty years ago when the idea was new, but today it's just stupid. I mean, can't they write it so she's a badass and wins the fight, but does it in a way that doesn't involve breaking the laws of physics?

The 4th film apparently follows the story events of The Matrix Online, an MMORPG that hasn't been active in over a decade. In that Morpheus died and was resurrected or something.

The Wachowskis were always big on the story spilling out of the movies into different mediums like the Animatrix and the Matrix video game that told Reloaded from Niobe's point of view.

500 Supposedly The 007 movie is well done but too long, overly complicated script and... well it wipes out everything that makes up James Bond in one film.

But the entire Craig era has been about unbonding Bond. They killed M, got rid of Q for a punk kid, Bond didn't even meet Moneypenny for several movies, there's no relationship at all between them, etc. The gadgets have been played way down, the girls less emphasized, and ultimately in the end they even killed Bond's past, which nobody ever even asked for or cared about.

They have a good chance to just wrap up the entire franchise and reboot to 60's era period pieces closer to the books (look at how well Casino Royale did by being very close to the novel), but don't bet on it.

I think that's actually one series that improved over its run, at least up to the Return. The first Pink Panther was funny, but they really developed the characters over the next couple of films. I *love* A Shot In The Dark, think that might be the best of the series. Inspector Clouseau was an abomination, but when they finally returned in 1975, they still had the magic. I could watch the 70's trilogy over and over. They did jump the shark a bit on Strikes Again, but picked it up on Revenge. Sellers was a treasure.

Probably one of my all time comedy favorites is After The Fox.

One day, Superman is flying around and he spots Wonder Woman sunbathing naked. Being faster than a speeding bullet, he realized he could fly down there, have sex with her and be gone before she knew what happened. Which he does. As he flies away, with his super hearing he heard Wonder Women exclaim, "What the hell was that?!" Then he hears the Invisible Man say, "I don't know but now my ass really hurts!"

People who will never bother to watch the movies anyway.

I heard an argument over the weekend that how hollywood sold the idea of going woke to the suits (i.e. people who pay the bills) is the performance of movies like Titanic, Avatar, etc, that had huge demographics of women wanting to see them. So, in order to try to tap into that, they make movies for what they think women want to see. But women do not want to watch that shit either, but they have now made it socially unacceptable to go back. They burned their bridge and now are standing on the other side... in Mordor.

629 The supremely idiotic thing about No Time To Die is that the director, producers, and writers completely destroyed the covenant between the audience and James Bond - at the end of every Bond film, the end credits assure that "James Bond Will Return." The only comparison that comes to mind would be Raiders of The Lost Ark opening with Indy getting crushed by the boulder.
