The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

When we lose one we love, our bitterest tears are called forth by the memory of hours when we loved not enough. Maurice Maeterlinck

Quote II

“Millions of Americans have been sold a fraud that the election was stolen. Republicans have a duty to tell the American people that this is not true. Perpetuating the Big Lie is an attack on the core of our constitutional republic.” Rep. Liz Cheney (RINO-WY)

Quote III

“We still have time before the 18th. We don’t know what the full impact will be and how many people will choose to leave state employment,” State Ferries spokesperson Ian Sterling

Come 2024 I'll have to keep my eye on Craigslist and the various shopper outlets for some good deals.

Gasoline-powered lawn mowers and leaf blowers will soon be a thing of the past in California. Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed into law a bill that will ban the sale of small internal combustion engines predominately used in lawn and garden equipment, starting as soon as 2024.

The new law, authored by Assemblyman Marc Berman from Menlo Park, will offer rebates for consumers to purchase electric replacements, and it builds on previous rulemaking already underway at the state’s air regulator, the California Air Resources Board, better known as CARB. The phaseout will begin as soon as is feasible or by January 1, 2024, whichever comes later.

I don't know about you. But I feel so much better that Dr. Fauci has said it is OK for kids to go trick or treating.

Dr. Anthony Fauci provided some good news to kids just a few weeks before Halloween. The nation's top infectious disease expert said that it is safe for children to go trick-or-treating this year.

"You can get out there – you're outdoors for the most part, at least, when my children were out there doing trick-or-treating – and enjoy it," Fauci said on CNN'sState of the Union. "I mean, this is a time that children love. It's a very important part of the year for children. I know my children enjoy it.

Last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged against trick-or-treating, calling it a "high risk" activity amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Fauci said that those who are not vaccinated should still take some extra precautions if they choose to go out and celebrate Halloween.

Misanthropic? You be the judge. I bet she'll never do this again.

THIS is the tragic moment a mum-of-three leaped 80ft to her death when a botched "free-flying" jump went horribly wrong.

Harrowing footage shows Yevgenia Leontyeva, 33, calmly stepping over the edge of the rooftop of a hotel in Kazakhstan as she got ready for her daredevil plunge.

OK, the speed has been demonstrated. What we need to know is it a self-mulcher or is it a bagger?

A British man broke a Guinness World Record when he built a riding lawn mower that reaches a speed of 143.19 mph.

Tony Edwards, a mechanical engineer from St. Martins, Shropshire, England, said he became interested in building the world's fastest lawnmower about two years ago.

"I know that a guy from the U.K. had the record at one point, at 96 mph. Then I think Honda had it at 116mph, and then a team from Norway did it at 132 mph, and I thought I'd give it a try," he told the Shropshire Star.

Do you think Merck would be pushing for this if they weren't immune from litigation?

The next generation of treatments for COVID-19 could come in the form of pills, nasal sprays, or inhalers, Insider's Aria Bendix and Andrew Dunn previously reported.

Other companies are testing oral antiviral medicine for COVID-19. Pfizer and Roche are expecting trial results by the end of the year, Insider previously reported.

Cynical? I guess so.

LOLGF'd Sideways!

A government-subsidised renewable energy plant run by Drax is the biggest single source of carbon dioxide in the UK, according to new analysis shared exclusively with Sky News.

Drax’s Yorkshire power plant receives multimillion pound subsidies for burning woody biomass pellets to generate renewable electricity.

New research by climate think tank Ember said the plant is among the biggest sources of carbon dioxide and PM10 (particulate matter of 10 micrometres and smaller) air pollution of all EU power stations – when biomass emissions are included – more even than some of Europe’s dirtiest coal plants.

Yet the emissions are not counted towards the UK’s total.

The UK excludes these biomass emissions from its total count, because – like the EU – it treats bioenergy as immediately carbon neutral on the assumption that forest regrowth soaks up the carbon again. Advertisement

But recent science disputes this carbon neutrality, said Ember’s chief operating officer Phil MacDonald. In fact there is a “real risk” that biomass is responsible for “significant emissions” he said.

Duncan Brack, a policy analyst who has authored a report questioning biomass policy, said electricity bill-payers were “in effect paying to increase carbon emissions to the atmosphere”.

Drax claims to have reduced its emissions by 90% since replacing coal with sustainable biomass. A spokesperson called Ember’s interpretation of the figures “completely at odds with what the world’s leading climate scientists at the UN IPCC say about sustainable biomass being crucial to delivering global climate targets”.

But, but, but it's renewable and we did something.

I'm OK with ditching the Columbus Day Holiday. F*cking bureaucrats already have too many 3 day weekends.

Celia Viggo Wexler Columbus Day is not a holiday the U.S. — and Italian Americans — should celebrate
We need to stop trying to salvage a holiday that brings us no glory while reinforcing the pain of the descendants of the people Christopher Columbus exploited.

As an Italian American tyke, I was proud to celebrate Columbus Day. It didn’t merit the attention that St. Patrick’s Day got in my Catholic school, with the Irish dancing, shamrocks and green cupcakes. But it still mattered. One of my ancestors discovered America. How cool was that?

It’s difficult to give up the myths that shaped the Italian story in the Americas. But these myths are holding us back.

Turns out the Irish had the better role model. No matter how you look at it, Columbus is not somebody we Italians should honor. And we should quit our efforts to salvage a holiday that brings us no glory while reinforcing the pain of the descendants of the people he exploited.

The ONT Musical Interlude

Rolling Stone Magazine is attempting to culture cancel Eric Clapton.

Since having a severe negative reaction to the AstraZeneca vaccine earlier this year, he’s become an outspoken opponent of the COVID vaccines. He has promised not to perform in venues with vaccine mandates, collaborated with Van Morrison on some anti-vaccine/anti-lockdowns songs, and even bankrolled an anti-vaccine rock group.

And his recent outspokenness as a vaccine skeptic has many of the cultural gatekeepers looking to have him canceled. Rolling Stone magazine has even run a lengthy hit piece on Clapton that blasts his vaccine skepticism.

“Clapton recently embarked on a U.S. tour booked in red states despite surging transmission numbers and death rates — and at venues that largely don’t require proof of vaccination,” David Browne of Rolling Stone writes with horror. “In the process, this Sixties icon, who embraced the sex, drugs, and rock & roll lifestyle as much as anyone in his generation, has drawn praise from conservative pundits

Does this bring back in memories? If anyone or anything should be canceled it is Rolling Stone Magazine.

First published in Rolling Stone in November 2014, the roughly 9,000-word feature story described a student called Jackie’s experience at her first fraternity party at the University of Virginia – and specifically, her account of how she was brutally gang-raped by seven men while other fraternity brothers looked on.

In the story Jackie was pushed through a low-lying glass table and pinned to the ground amid shards of glass. “‘Grab its motherfucking leg,’ she heard a voice say. And that’s when Jackie knew she was going to be raped.” At one point a fraternity brother shoves a beer bottle into her as others cheer. Afterwards Jackie stumbled away from the frat house barefoot and bleeding in the middle of the night, and called several friends for support only to have them raise concerns about the “social price” of Jackie reporting her rape.

Five years on, the lessons from the Rolling Stone rape story

The magazine’s publication – and ultimate retraction – of a story about an alleged gang-rape at the University of Virginia led to reflections about media ethics and understanding victims of sexual assault

Five years ago, when Sabrina Rubin Erdely’s “A Rape on Campus” article first appeared, the bombshell story ignited a conversation about sexual violence on college campuses.

But cracks soon surfaced in the story. Erdely hadn’t factchecked her central source, and Jackie’s claims were not borne out by subsequent reporting. “We have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced,” Rolling Stone wrote of Jackie, before ultimately retracting the story.

Now five years later, in the aftermath of #Metoo, what was its legacy really?

In a way the story presaged a wave of high-profile dedication to sexual assault reporting across news organizations, as well as attacks from many – including the president and his supporters – that the media are an enemy who can’t be trusted.

The story’s trail of destruction was also significant for the people directly involved. Rolling Stone faced years in the courts, paying out millions to those who suffered reputational damage – losses which may have contributed to the sale of the magazine in 2017 amid other financial strains

You want hot food. I'll give you hot oil or it is alleged. Genius Award Winner.

OCTOBER 8--A drive-thru dispute at a Wendy’s in Tennessee turned felonious when a restaurant manager doused a customer with hot oil, leaving the victim with burns and extensive blistering, police allege.

Demarrus Pritchett, a 21-year-old shift manager, is facing an aggravated assault charge following a confrontation Tuesday at a Wendy’s in Huntingdon, a town about 115 miles west of Nashville.

As detailed in a criminal complaint, Pritchett was involved in a “verbal altercation” with customer Zayveon Johnson over “food obtained in the Wendy’s drive-thru.” Johnson, cops say, contended that the items he received were cold.

A police review of store surveillance footage showed that while Pritchett was “conducting a cash refund,” he returned to the restaurant’s kitchen “to obtain the hot oil in a metal pan.” The scalding oil apparently was taken from a deep fryer.

Sean Rogers Jr. is rolling out the red carpet to get kids in central Ohio to school.

"Everybody is so shocked. Like, who is this guy pulling up in a limo or whatever? Then everyone wonders who was in the backseat," he said.

Rogers decided it was time to pull out all the stops after his kids missed school on Friday when their bus didn't show up.

So, he borrowed a ride from his dad's limousine service and hit the road.

"You know, everybody always wants to say, 'Oh, let's, let's help the community. Let's stop this violence,' and all this type of stuff. Well, I feel like a big step of stopping the violence is part of getting kids to school instead of letting them skip school and go out here and get into trouble," Rogers said.

Sold? You mean by the non-stop breathless "news coverage" of the incidents, anomalies, allegations, comically brazen unconstitutional improprieties? The eyewitness accounts of tabulating machines in Wayne County running stacks of ballots over and over, effectively counting them multiple times? The obviously forged ballots in GA, where the markings on many are identical, not even remotely plausibly done by different voters?

Or the "historic" middle of the night "pause" in counting, just in a few key states, which has never happened before, and has never been explained?

THAT coverage?

I went from 1985 to 1991 without cutting it. Maybe a trim for my bangs but not much of that once it was long enough for a ponytail.

And it was about an 8-9 inch ponytail. I still have it. I had the barber cut off in one bunch as much as he could and then I wrapped it up and kept it safe from bugs and mice. When Clapton is on, oh my, it is sublime. The 2010 album, Clapton, as are the two Robert Johnson recordings, are great late period Clapton recordings. The influence he has had on guitar playing is immeasurable - I can't even begin to enumerate how often I have heard his sound as the foundation of other players over the decades. He may not be the greatest technically, but musically he more than deserves to be considered as the "best in the world."

Can't answer the ten year timeline question, but my county in NoVA looks like the ultimate cloud storage central. Everywhere I drive, I see gated buildings with no windows, cooling towers on every square foot of the roof, and very little parking space. So it is a safe bet that never again should you think every email, tweet, etc., is not indexed and on file to be used against you if needed!

That new Buddy Guy documentary goes into all that. Clapton would be the first to admit it. The key thing is to always give credit, and name names, when you're taking licks from those who came before you. In blues that's common, stealing, giving respect, and an oral tradition of repping your teachers.

See the FLCCC protocol, the I-MASK+ one. The early treatment dose range is 0.4 - 0.6 mg/kg once a day for 5 days. The upper range is to be used for "aggressive variants" or if you start 5 days after first symptoms, or if pulmonary symptoms are showing (ie short of breath).

See the full I-MASK+ document for all the other stuff, which includes zinc, quercetin, vitamin D3, etc, etc, etc.

Well, if one is 50 pounds overweight, one is not going to get to "right" weight in a day. Or a week, or a month. Meanwhile, if the Coof comes knocking, it would appear that Ivermectin is worth trying, given that it is routinely used in human beings without any harm at all.

One is probably a whole lot safer double or triple-dosing on Ivermectin, than on Tylenol.

They are becoming like wearing... a scarf. People are not thinking about the point of them any more.

For example, when you were in school and you were wearing lab goggles, there was constant reinforcement of what and why you were doing it. Your eyes burning handling that sulfuric acid? DO NOT TOUCH YOUR EYES!

This is like handing someone a gas mask and telling them to put it on without training. Fit test? Nope. Beards not a good thing? Nope. I was never in the army, but had the fit test where they checked your fit/seal with that nasty fuming crap. From what I have heard, the army is a bit more hardcore in fit testing.

Get the 1% injectable (NOT pour-over), if you can find it. For dosages look around. I think it's the same PER KILO as a horse (which obviously you aren't, so it will be much less than a horse would get).

You might still be able to get human ivermectin through the mail. I can't recall the name of the website I found a few weeks ago, but it was from overseas. Begin at covid19criticalcare.com.

Now, there are other options. An old-folks home in Spain cured the entire patient load with antihistamines and antibiotics.

Your best bet is PREVENTATIVE. Get a bottle of Scope and gargle a few times daily to kill the viral load in your mouth and throat, and Xlear nasal spray to kill the viral load in your nasal passages. Take a few thousand mgs of C, quercetin and zinc (quercetin gets the zinc - an antiviral - into your cells), plus 5000 IUs of D3.

We have a Soros prosecutor who is also facing recall.

She really stepped in it last month, when she released a guy on bail after his ex got a protective order (bail for strangling her), and he showed up at her apt and beat her with a hammer so badly her mother identified her from a tattoo on her wrist.
Between the attack and the woman's death, she and the supervisor who was elected with outside money for being able to ride a bike and flip the bird at the same time dug up an instance two weeks previous of a judge jailing a woman for contempt for showing up to court high for a domestic hearing.
They managed to hold a protest on behalf of the stoned woman who was released after two days two weeks previously, on behalf of victims of domestic violence, and get the photo op in under the wire before the hammer victim died of her injuries.
soros b*tch is having a bad month.

Just saw this, "Blackout for Freedom". This supposedly was a protest idea in Europe against the Covid/vax tyranny. Idea is to turn off your power for 21 minutes, and everyone do this simultaneously globally. This will be at 10AM EDT tomorrow, Oct 12.

I don't know how many people even know about this. But if enough people did it, it would make for a noticeable grid event. And another even bigger hiccup, when everyone turned it back on.

Again, I have no idea if enough people are aware of it. Miley wants to do it, so I'm gonna.

Yes, see Berenson's substack article, where a pilot explained what was going on. Any such action is "illegal work action". They can't strike. Officially. But they can do this sort of thing, while denying they are doing anything such coordinated labor action.

Tucker had a pilot on tonight. He essentially acknowledged that. He said, "Oh, it's illegal to take such work action, and I and none of my fellows are doing such an illegal thing. But we can say no individually."

They are doing a slowdown/semi-strike, but not officially.

599 591 Lost in Space, I spent most of the late seventies and eighties in a used record store like that in High Fidelity. Guy would special order all kinds of import lp pressings of a lot of records that had far better fidelity than the US pressings or were out of print. So I have a Portuguese lp of the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense album as a result.

I used to play the Brady Bunch album to let people know that the party was over at my house and for them to go home. Extra punishment was the Brady Bunch Christmas album and no, they could not sing much at all. In reserve was the Shaggs, My Pal Foot Foot album serving as the bouncer lp.

If you can find it, the Back from the Grave series of lps had hilarious cover art and examples of some of the best 60's and 70's garage bands that never made the big time.

603
See "swing" with power systems. That is, a grid, with a bunch of generation in parallel distributed over distance, all handling a large common load.

See the "Great Blackout of '65". A mis-set breaker on a major transmission line tripped, and set off a whole cascade of "event" that brought the whole NE grid down.

The opening of that line altered the flow of power through the system.

What is swing? Imagine you've got a big-ass generator, a YUGE synchronous machine with a stator big enough to drive a couple of Mack trucks through. It's under load. Prime mover (steam turbine) is delivering a YUGE amount of torque. You don't stop all that on a dime.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at October 12, 2021 12:47 AM (Mzdiz)

604 Trump calling it is.

Posted by: SFGoth at October 12, 2021 12:47 AM (KAi1n)

605 Now, load goes to nothing. What does all that torque do? It tries to accelerate the rotor. That is it tries to speed up frequency. We want to maintain dead-constant 60Hz.

Now, long story, but that tends to set up oscillations in the system. The load on the rotors gets to oscillating. The generators start trying to speed up, then slow down. It's not stable, and gets worse and worse.

You can read stories of operators shitting their pants as they watched those huge machines start swinging. They were afraid they were going to jump out of their mounts.

606 601 SF Goth, the New Orleans joint was named after Professor Longhair's song. Tipitina was a regional radio hit in the 50's but undeservedly Professor Longhair never really made the big time like Fats with Blueberry Hill.

Professor Longhair used to play at Tipitinas some before he died.

After that, transient analysis became a requirement for all power system engineers. They realized that action had to be coordinated at the grid level. You couldn't have major transmission line control systems acting independently. You had to coordinate, and that meant communication. Stability is the key. Stopping swing before it starts.

Now, I imagine you could stretch that to the breaking point by some careful load switching all over the system. A coordinated action of opening load here, and cranking up load here. You could probably set off a swing event, or at least force the whole grid to go down to save itself.

I guess such thoughts make me a terrorist.

the only way "w*rk to rule" is legal in this instance is if it happens organically, with no visible leader, call to action, etc.

621 617 SFGoth, Professor Longhair's Mardi Gras recording is the unofficial anthem of Mardi Gras. When I used to go to conferences there, I had acquaintances who were former locals that served as tour guides to all the eating places or clubs that fly under the radar there. I'd imagine that Wolfus could do the same for anyone.

I could not live there as I would be the size of the Goodyear Blimp, deaf, and a habitual boozer if I lived there long.

623 The interesting thing about Irish democracy was that there were no leaders for the state, media, and law enforcement to target. Just individuals acting in a semi coordinate fashion with no apparent leaders.

Respectfully disagree. MFM would either remain silent or come up with some lie to lay blame elsewhere. FJB will remain unscathed.

Agreed that Trump shouldn't make any mention whatsoever of any strike or boycott or the like. No sense making it any easier for the blame to be laid upon him, and you just know they will try.

Big Tech and MSM will be the enemy in getting the word out. We'll have to do that organically, and not depend on mass, central communication.

We may not be anywhere near a majority, but we have enough numbers to cause some real chaos and fuck up the system and the oligarchs who run it. If we can coordinate.

629 625 Publius,
There is enough free communication going on via the samizdat route that for example Let's Go Brandon became a thing despite the NBC reporter trying to fake news the chants from the stands.

Try listening to the Who's song Relay for an example. Ironically, the whole Pete Townshend's Life House album concept was about resisting a tyrannical government in the future with leaders that literally sucked the life out of their citizens. Won't Get Fooled Again came out of that project among others such as Let's See Action.

630 Haven't been to NOLA in a long time, used to go annually for JazzFest (when it was just 2 3-day weekends, at least when I first went). One time we went to Tip's to see, I think, BB. He didn't come on until 1 or 2 (?), anyway, very late. Even then, younger days, very tired. I think we went out to eat anyway after, Camelia Grill. So, 2 New Orleans iconic entertainment boxes checked. Would always stop in at Preservation Hall when we were passing.

JazzFest was great back then, especially Fridays. Much smaller crowds, fewer "big names" - but one of the main points of the amazing collection of talent was the no-names. Think that something like 70% of the talent, over 6 days, on 5 or six stages, was locally based.

Me, I just know what has happened elsewhere and how even the staunchest regimes like E. Germany crumbled in a matter of weeks. The thing that Soros has never contemplated is that organic regime change beats trying to impose a fake color revolution on a bunch of unwilling subjects. The key is that organic regime change adherents believe that the regime is imposed on them by others, that things can be different, and that they no longer care about the regime's supposed retaliatory powers. The numbers fluctuated and differed by each colony as well. However, the unique thing was that the colonial governing structure became viewed as imposed on them by an uncaring England and the men of property aimed to replace those overseers with homegrown elites. It was as some put it a conservative Revolution compared with the later French or Russian one. In most revolutions, the attempt is to throw out homegrown elites instead of displacing foreign rulers via rebellion.

660 658 re Sock Monkey and American Kestrel,
The labor movement led by Walesa as an electrician at the Gdansk Shipyards started small and ended up taking over the country. Fax machines were used as the analog noises generated by the faxes were bumfuzzling to the secret service listeners on the phone lines and it took the regime time to decipher the analog noises into pictures of the coded messages and then the deciphering of the coded messages in the fax itself.

A slower version of flash mobs were coordinated that way.

662 655 Miley, it started in Poland and the Baltic States in 89 and 90, then spread to the Czechs and Hungarians, and then further south. The Soviets pulled their troops out to Mother Russia and the puppet regimes collapsed one after another. Once again, places like Hungary, Czechs, Poles, etc. had memories of resisting the Russians and what it was like to run their own countries. The Resistance networks in those countries also were able to competently step into governing roles left vacant by the deposed Communists.

689 The Clapton hit piece is one of the biggest jokes in rolling stone history, which is saying a lot. Those who have read Clapton's wiki page know that the article is basically a rewriting of the "controversy" page that's been on there for years. This writer didn't research shit, he just copied what was already posted.

It's also hilarious to call Clapton racist. This is a man who did more to promote black music, and to enrich black musicians, than any other person in history. Clapton wasn't Jimmy Page or many others who stole old rock songs, Eric would play the song and then go on to talk about how these black American musicians are the greatest musicians ever, and that you should support them. A few of these legends, like BB King and Buddy Guy, have said that they basically owe everything to Clapton, as he made these men stars to the white audience, thus making them wealthy, all while he expected nothing in return.

So I'll stick with the guy who actually supported and lifted black voices, who does his damndest to help those struggling with addiction, and who supports freedom, over some fuck wit trash from rolling stone and thier equally braindead readers
