Polls Show Public Support for Biden and the Democrat Party Falling Still further
Confirming the Quinnipiac poll showing Biden's job approval at a horrible 38% favorable, 53% unfavorable, the Gallup poll shows Republicans with near-record leads on the two key issues of security and prosperity.
According to the Morning Consult, voters are "underwhelmed" by Biden's and the Democrats' performance in office.

Americans by significant margins now view the Republican Party as better than the Democratic Party at protecting the nation from international threats (54% to 39%, respectively) and at ensuring the nation remains prosperous (50% to 41%). The 15-percentage-point GOP advantage on security matters is its largest since 2015, while its nine-point edge on prosperity is its largest since 2014. Last year, the GOP had a narrow advantage on international matters while the parties were essentially tied on economic matters. More of this change has come from declines in Americans perceiving the Democratic Party as better on these issues than from increases for the Republican Party.

Americans typically see the Republican Party as more capable on national security matters, but the 15-point gap in favor of the GOP this year is the largest since a 16-point advantage in 2015. The party had an even larger 23-point gap in 2014, a time when the Obama administration was struggling to deal with the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and renewed Middle East violence, among other issues. ... As is the case on international matters, there has been a seven-point drop in the percentage of Americans who say the Democratic Party is better able to keep the U.S. prosperous, from 48% to 41%. Now, 50% say the Republican Party is better, compared with 47% in 2020. Republicans have had at least a small advantage on this for most of the past decade, with the current nine-point lead tying 2011 and 2014 as the largest for the GOP during this period. The only years since 2010 that Republicans have not led are 2012 and 2020, the two years in which Democratic candidates were elected president. The last time that at least half of U.S. adults said the Republicans were better at keeping the country prosperous was in 1989, although there have been several measures of 48% or 49% since then.
Meanwhile, the only people who trust the leftwing partisan media are its dwindling number of leftwing partisan viewers.
40% of voters say Biden has accomplished less than they expected since taking office in January, up 12 points since June, and matching the share who say the same of congressional Democrats. The shares of independent and Democratic voters who say Biden has underperformed expectations have doubled over the past three months. 52% of all voters disapprove of Biden's job performance, his worst rating in a Morning Consult/Politico poll so far.
Steven Kruiser wonders if 2022 will be "2010 on steroids." He bases this partly on Stacy Lennox's observation that the Quinnipiac polls finds a dramatic shift on the generic congressional ballot question towards Republicans:
Americans' trust in the media has plummeted four percentage points since last year to 36 percent -- and is the lowest since 2016, a new poll released Thursday found. Just 7 percent say they have a "great deal" of trust and confidence in newspapers, television and radio reporting the news accurately and fairly, and 29 percent say they have a "fair amount," the Gallup poll shows. That combined 36 percent is four percentage points from 2016's record low of 32 percent, the poll said.
More than a third -- 34 percent -- say they have "none at all" and 29 percent have "not very much."
RealClearPolitics aggregates polls on the generic congressional ballot. A simple question is posed to potential voters: If the election happened today, which party they would want to control the House of Representatives? In recent months, all but one poll showed Democrats ahead on this measure since April. However, Quinnipiac conducted this type of poll twice in the last three weeks, and the results moved seven points in favor of Republicans over that timeframe.The Democrats have time to improve their ratings. We're probably in the last major outbreak of covid for a while, and Biden and Democrats will be given credit by the media for a completely-expected natural oscillation in pandemic spread. The media will claim this was because of the authoritarian fascist vaccine mandates.
That, in turn, may lead to an upturn in the economy. Which the media will credit to Biden's steady leadership and force of intellect. So two things will probably happen due to completely predictable rhythmic oscillations, and the media will propagandize that this is all due to the mastery of the Democrat Party. Much of the public is plenty stupid enough to believe this.

Biden is a disaster for the party. If and when Republicans pick up a few more state houses and governorships (ignore the federal government representation, nothing will happen), the Republican Party will have a great opportunity to reestablish some trust with its base. Voting integrity measures left and right, just in time for the 2024 presidential election.

- The 7% with high degrees of trust are the true no-fos. Watch TV sometimes, maybe read a paper, know nothing else and are generally cloistered. Truly apolitical and almost completely tuned out in general, probably also elderly.
- The 29% with moderate trust are the people who know better but are in the tank no matter what and are happy to go along for the ride to perdition.

Looking back to 2010, many states were impervious to that year's Republican wave (NY, CA, WA, OR, CO). Perhaps a few House districts were picked up there, but nothing at a statewide level.
It should be a Republican blowout, but those who have recently turned on Biden will be quite happy to turn back. Without that demographic, it won't be a nationwide blowout, just confined to some regions and states.

They're all pretty much this, despite whatever rhetoric you may read. Rand Paul may be the ONLY exception that I can think of, thinking hard here.

De Wine is doing the Party's bidding in re-districting, and making Jim Jordan (likely) lose his seat and have to campaign in another district.
DeWine is another GOPe that I will not vote for, ever again. If he doesn't get primaried out in 2022, I will not vote for him, or the Democrat running against him.

Government spending has become an unalloyed good to many people in their minds. There's little thought to it at all, but I doubt it's a huge motivating factor in terms of voting behaviors. It's like how "95% of poll respondents support universal background checks" and yet people still vote along party lines for other issues.

Do you believe the USA can save Taiwan? Our republic is in tatters, and we lost the will to wage Total War long ago.
China could cripple Taiwan fairly easily with industrial sabotage. Just fuck up their major semiconductor fabs, and the island would starve from lack of income. I gotta believe there are even more Chinese operatives in Taiwan than in the USA. If Israel can break nuclear enrichment plants in Iran by remote control, you know China can do it to Taiwan.

I'd only add that "shit runs downhill". In other words, the application used in the general election on the most important seats will now be applied at the lower levels of government. Republicans continuously dominate state legislatures and governorships. That's the next target. They've shown that with a governor and a State Supreme court they can negate State constitutions. Throw in a State Attorney General and they have the whole shebang.
These polls mean nothing other than telling us that there is democrat infighting...or we'd never see it.

$2500 tax, per head on beef cattle
$600 tax, per head on swine
And so, what will we be eating next year? Because this will cause most dairy farmers, cattle ranchers and pig farms to kill most if not all of their herds. This solves that perplexing methane problem from livestock animals.

Related: Rewatched Captain America Civil War again a couple of nights ago, found that it was worse than I'd remembered. Partly because it drags out the same stupid "heroes create the villains that they must then fight" crutch that Marvel overuses. But also because of that useless prig Vision, who opines that "strength invites challenge" ignoring thousands of years of human history. That smug comment really pissed me off, and I'd forgotten about it from previous viewings.
It also reminds me that the two Marvel characters with virtually unlimited power (Vision and Captain FlatAss) are in fact the least consequential of the lot. And they are the most emotionless and detached Marvel heroes, who basically don't give a shit if humanity lives or dies.

It's not that easy - China's industrial production is linked to Taiwan's, which is why they've never attacked them before now. China needs Taiwan intact, or they need a major war which will justify massive crackdowns (even more than now) on their own population.

I read an article that surprised me on several accounts. It turns out that the Taiwanese military was in really poor shape, and is only now being beefed up. Also, that the Kuomintang, Chang's old outfit, is fading and is riddled with collaborationists who would love to hamstring any response to a PRC invasion so as to curry favor with the PRC. Finally, it noted that the most likely PRC approach to an invasion would rely on those same KMT people to welcome them in and hand the country over, rather than relying on a traditional amphibious invasion, which would be extremely hazardous and difficult to disguise.

That's staggering. Based on some cursory web searching:
A beef cow costs $2,500-$3,000, a dairy cow costs similar and a hog costs about $150 to double or triple that for a breeder.
So under that taxation scheme, in the two-year time to raise a beef cow until it is slaughtered, the raiser will buy it three times (once for the cow, twice for taxes over two years). It's an even worse story for dairy and pigs.
So they want the price of meat and dairy to go up 5x, at the minimum. That's a monumental disaster waiting to happen.

I've always figured they'd eventually be bought. The business ties between mainland, HK, and Taiwan would be too tight to unravel.
But so much of what Jiang and Hu did, the current guy has undone, he's scared a lot of people shitless. I know people who own businesses and real estate in China and HK and used to be there four months a year, but they will physically not go there now.

This annoyed the nobles who were infuriated that someone might have as nice of stuff as them. How could they stand out and look better than everyone else if just anyone can buy silk and perfume?

The economy will improve after the ending of Covid restrictions, and that is unlikely to happen much in the next year in blue states.
The supply disruptons and worker shortage doesn't seem to be going anywhere and those aren't driven by actual Covid infections. They seem to be independent of the disease now.
Add in a high number of highly skilled, yet unemployed workers who have been fired because of vax mandates. That will be a significant shift of productive to dependant.
And if the Dems manage to get their $5T spending spree, it will suck any recovery out of the economy.
I don't see a scenario where Dems get credit for an improving economy, unless they stop acting like Dems.

My theory is that any conflict around the nine-dash-line will be prefaced by a buildup of Chinese air, ground, and naval assets in the Horn of Africa. When a conflict arises they'll mine the Red Sea while their Iranian allies block the Straits of Hormuz. The goal will be to shut down all commerce and movement through the Indian Ocean, forcing the US into a lengthy campaign far from friendly bases, and putting pressure on the West to negotiate an end to fighting.

The show is okay, but Clay Travis NEVER gives an actual opinion on ANYTHING. He just regurgitates the news of the day and occasionally criticizes stupid COVID protocols or whatever.
It's just milquetoast bullshit.

2. WE better DAMN well make sure that we are putting in real conservatives and not more rino's. Remember we had Congress and the Presidency and RYano's got in the way of everything, not unlike the left and the centrist Democrats now. They have all the "Democrats" they need to get these debacles of funding passed but they don't have the unity anymore of their "big tent".
