What's my proof? The troops were still there in January, February, March, April, May, and June.

Brings a good point: The breakroom TV is stuck on CBS. Last night I was doing end of shift work and had to watch Colbert (I usually try to avoid like the plague, also need to get ear plugs.) He was on a riff about the situation in Arizona Recount and also Vaccination.
It was all derision. No persuasion or introspection or self mockery. Just deriding the other side. Pure propaganda. That is interesting. His show is obviously self selected for the other side, and yet there is absolutely no deviation from the narrative. No comfort in their position.

1) the US withdrawal would have been far better executed, including making Bagram the last bastion held, and last point of departure
2) the Afghan army/state would have crumbled, and the situation today (minus that of Americans/foreigners/local partners, of course) would have been essentially the same
So it's really all about the specifics of the disengagement, not the macro political/geopolitical outcome, which is obviously driven by fundamentals (and always has been, a much bigger and different topic).

As for "logistical success" - if one looks ONLY at the volume of people flown out on a no-notice improvised basis from HKIA, sure, it was what one expects from the US military. An operation no other organization on earth even dreams of being able to do.
But the failure to do the obvious thing (keep Bagram), and to deal with certain military assets left behind, are outrageous disasters, on their face. Perhaps something could make them look less so, but I'm doubtful.

So the chances of the Chicoms testing our resolve leading to a hot war have greatly increased, including possible use of nukes.

as for requiring a sizeable force for bagram- i don't think 5000 troops were needed for that.
of course, they could have stationed a bunch of afghan security at the base in concert with our guys had they remained, but the specter of green on blue is real.
or you float in a qrf to hold the base until your exfil- on your own terms and timelines.

I emailed them yesterday morning to ask whether the November deadline holds for people applying for exemptions, because if so, then I would need their decision by the end of this week so that (in the event of denial) I would have a week to make a decision about whether to get the shot (the November deadline is to be 2 wks past the final shot). The Tactical portion was the debacle. Basic Strategy to pull out would be pull civilians out first. Keep more than one avenue of retreat open (ie keep BOTH Airfields). Destroy equipment you can't get out, in place.
Once civilians are out, THEN you contract your area of operations slowly, to the two airfields... pulling your men out in an orderly manner.
They had YEARS to plan this, as Trump ordered the withdrawal in his FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE, but his STAFF constantly countermanded the order.

idk the big picture exactly, but retaining Bagram for (essential) Afghan Army support, AND for the broader usefulness as a base in the region ... (with 3-5000 troops) would better fit with building regional allies (India, ?) for the coming China confrontations.
So abandoning it ... yes, like surrendering S Vietnam by cutting them off (except we didn't leave $80B in weaponry and a well built base behind)

there is nothing to reverse engineer. as i stated, this was mostly first generation weaponry and equipment. technical manuals are online or in hardbound edition and if not, already obtained through computer hacking.
so that negates that point.
if you mean repair to be used against us, sure. maybe. but they need specific parts. likelihood of having a stockpile of spare parts, say for a blackhawk, is not likely.
and i'll leave it at that.
