Top Story

  • So I'm banned from Twitter again. They have at least sped up the appeals process. Where it used to take a week for a bot to automatically reject your appeal, it now takes less than 24 hours.

I only really used it to mock the stupid - because that's where they congregate - and it turns out the stupid didn't appreciate it.

  • Specifically I was banned for suggesting that Comrade Dan Andrews - Premier of Victoria - should resign or be thrown into a volcano, whichever works. And this morning Melbourne got hit by a 5.6 earthquake, so while Twitter might have banned me it appears that someone was listening.

Oh, and despite the earthquake the tradies were on the march again - and Comrade Dan banned the news networks from filming the protest from the air. That's because they want to keep up the propaganda effort that it's a small group of Neo-Nazis, and that lie dies instantly when you see the extent of the protests from above.

(Also dies instantly when you see the large Sikh contingent.)

  • Update: Here's the latest from Melbourne. Bit harder for me to track it now that I've been banned from Twitter.

Dictator Dan had his stormtroopers firing non-lethal rounds at protestors at the Shrine of Remembrance.

    Great optics there, Danny Boy.

  • If you're a farm service provider don't use chicken1 as your password. (ZDNet)

Make it chicken123 next time. Get the hackers to put in a little effort.

6 Up early with a coffee and a breakfast pipe while I watch a Hill Street Blues episode. Chekov the ailing cat is eating a bit more enthusiastically and spending a little more time out from under the armchair. I've noticed that his nose was running a little earlier yesterday -- and today his nose has a clear crust, as if the discharge has stopped and dried. This might be a good sign. I'll try cleaning him up and continue with the wet food he enjoys.

51 After the goats digest the brush, their waste returns organic matter to the soil, increasing its potential to hold water. Goats are browsers that eat the grass, leaves and tall brush that cows and other grazers cant reach. This type of vegetation is known as the fire fuel ladder and leads to wider spread when wildfires spark.

90 Ivermectin is some interesting "stuff". Without regard to its effectiveness at treating or preventing the Chicom coof virus. It really is.

One thing I recall going way back, was a decided anti "big pharma" on the part of the crunchy, granola eating left. They were part of a contingent that believed vaccinations in general were perhaps a bad idea. Or maybe not in general, but personally, for them, and their family. Hiding in herd immunity, perhaps. And that cures for cancer were being held back by evil corporations. Maybe, stranger things have happened. Point being they are AWOL on this entire debacle, or appear to be.

I've seen that data too. Not sure if it's completely accurate, but the upshot is that ivermectin does kill SARS-CoV-2 both in vitro and in animal studies, but the dose required is on the high end of safety.

If we ever get the Republic back under control, I'd like to see that added, as well as something else - a kill switch.

A referendum process for Federal balloting, that only allows for a single issue - a vote of No Confidence in the entire government - all three branches. If chosen, this will dismiss every sitting politician with prejudice (may not run for any elected office in the next cycle) and vacate the Supreme Court.

There should also be optional boxes to tick on the ballot to go with the dismissal of elected figures. "Include the Bureaucracy? Establish Federal Inquisition to investigate fraud allegations? Tar and Feather the whole lot?"

185 A tech bleg: I have software that spits out data to a postgreSQL database. To do anything useful with the data takes a little bit of jiggery, as it's stored across two different tables and needs some creative joining to make sense. What I'm looking for is a good, solid software suite that can do custom SQL queries and make reports with graphs of the data (temperatures, flow rates, pressures, etc. ) and some basic averaging, and automatically send those reports to a list of email addresses on a regular basis.

So far I've been using Goolag Data Studio, which is pretty good for the purpose but not 100% reliable. It's slow and graunchy and prone to flaking out, but when it works it works great.

I don't mind shelling out some bucks to make this happen. I've tried things like Tableau and Metabase, but they aren't as flexible as I'd like, and I don't have enough time to learn something like BIRT for this project.

Any suggestions?

196 The direct feedback mechanism that the framers who wrote our form of government into being has been severed.

It's just the illusion of "participatory democracy", whereby grifters and schemers con their way into office. Then they are practically free to donwhatever they want. A license to steal.

It's apparently little more than organized criminal enterprise in far too many instances. Regulatory capture too, so the institutions intended to guard against this, to punish wrongdoers are now used to protect the criminals and punish the innocent.

Lieutenant General Michael Flynn was one, and the spooks got to him within days of his appointment as Donald Trump's National Security Adviser.

Angelo Codevilla was the other. Flynn is a working-class kid who worked his way up the chain of command from reserve officer training at Providence College, while Angelo was an Italian-born connoisseur of Western culture, multi-lingual and the master of many disciplines, fiercely independent and contemptuous of attempts to co-opt him.

221 "I saw Dunkirk, and did not like it. I could give a 5 hour lecture on what I knew, and the movie got it wrong."

Even with all the cardboard cutouts, Noland's Dunkirk Beach looked bare. I'm sure the crowd of personnel was larger at the actual event. I admire his intention to eschew CGI for actual filming, but he dropped the ball there. The Dunkirk shots in Atonement seemed more accurate.

The film also lost verisimilitude because almost no one was smoking when in fact half the people would have been or trying to cage a cigarette. This is a function of Noland's personal antipathy to tobacco overcoming his commitment to accuracy.

This last proclivity has rendered many a period movie unbelievable.

236 Today's word of encouragement from the Book of Lamentations, reputedly by the same person who wrote the Book Of Jeremiah:

Lamentations 3:22-23

Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed,
Because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. And in a teaching point about this, Rev. Dr. David Jeremiah notes: God is faithful. How does that affect us? God is faithful. How will that help us this week? God is faithful. How does that explain what is going on in our lives? God is faithful.

Posted by: squid_hunt at September 22, 2021 06:43 AM (B0mGw)

238 236 And some notes on the passage from Rev, Dr, David Jeremiah:

* Because God is faithful, we can have confidence when we pray.

* Because God is faithful, we can conquer evil and temptation.

*Because God is faithful, we can praise him.

* Because God is faithful we can have courage when we are afraid.

The prophet's point was: when you do not understand what is going on, and when things are not going as you like, you can have courage in the time of trouble-if you understand that God is faithful.

254 So today I went for an early morning walk. There were some pink clouds before the sun came up completely and they were lovely. There was some kind of plant with purple flowers in the field, It looked like thistle a bit but softer. I smelled the lavender and the roses by the Adult living center (I don't live there; I just like to walk there)Some nice woman greeted me as I was walking around. Two other people (with their cute, old dog) were feeding (well, the people were feeding) the red sliders. The people greeted me and asked me if I wanted to give the turtles some food. I said, "No; You enjoy yourselves!" Someone on the staff of the facility had a sign, "Jesus loves you" which made me feel good.
