A federal grand jury has returned an indictment against cybersecurity attorney Michael Sussmann, who represented the DNC in connection with the 2016 Russia hack. Special Counsel John Durham sought the charge. The grand jury indictment accused Sussmann of lying when he "stated to the General Counsel of the FBI that he was not acting on behalf of any client in conveying particular allegations concerning a Presidential candidate, when in truth, and fact, as the defendant well knew, he was acting on behalf of specific clients, namely, Tech Executive-1 and the Clinton Campaign," reports Huffington Post.As the excerpt from the indictment below spells out, Sussaman knowingly passed a false claim to the FBI, and then lied about who he was working for. This caused the FBI to take this false-from-the-start claim seriously, and resulted in the material harm to an ongoing investigation. Thanks to Tami.

It reminds me of the Clinesmith thing. The implication here is that Sussman squealed (which is what usually is the situation with a big investigation--the squealer gets the first indictment on a relative soft minor crime--and that's what gets the ball rolling as everyone scrambles for a plea deal.)
But in Clinesmith's case, that didn't happen. He was it, and his sentence was eventually reduced. So this could be a big deal or a nothingburger Posted by: artemis at September 16, 2021 04:58 PM (AwPyG) 46

Regarding the squealing possibility- if the indictee does, in fact squeal, revealing a conspiracy to cover up a crime, said crime is "ongoing" until unraveled/discovered. Which means, in layman's terms, ain't no statute of limitations tolled yet, because the crime ain't done yet.

What I'm about to say isn't directed at anyone in particular, just conservatives in general (including me). The reason conservatives are surprised to be disappointed is because conservatives have been fools for decades. Who do you think erected this Leviathan state? Liberals all on their own? Nixon, Ford, Reagan, both Bushes - which one reduced government in any meaningful way? None; they mostly solidified expansions or expanded it in their own right. And we supported that. For decades. And now some of us are very ass-mad that one guy we elected, who was resisted by his own party at very turn, didn't somehow topple a system we helped labor to build for decades. I'm just sour with Trump right now, but I proudly voted for him twice. I think he was worth the price just for the masks he dropped. But I just see a collapsed Biden/Harris Presidency and nation on the brink and am afraid Trump is going to be a GOP version of Adlai Stevenson that just keeps running for President and losing until he dies. Let's be honest, there's only one viable alternative to Trump and that's DeSantis. Let's say by some miracle DeSantis is elected, do you think he's has a whole team of outsiders lined up to take over all the federal agencies or is he going to do exactly as Trump did, defer to the RNC and keep the same old people with a few heavy hitting RNC donors thrown in?

Regarding criticisms of Trump's choices:
We can see that Trump made some bad choices. I suspect, though, his choices were the best of the options he had. In many cases he had a bunch of bad options. In order to create good options, he would have had to have some rather extraordinary Jedi-like influence, power, and knowledge. Really, he does not have the authority to fire every anti-American swamp critter, even though they all need to be fired. He did a great job of exposing their perfidy and nudging the American people in a better direction. And he made tremendous strides in restoring our prosperity and peace in spite of the swamp.
