54 There's a really strange technique here. The face is hyper realistic with meticulous blending, shading, and detail. The beard starts off that way but then the artist adds numerous thick, solid brushstrokes. To me, these make the work look unfinished, AND they also make the beard look scraggly and wild. It's weird. 181 Very nicely executed glabella.

*****

Thanks for mentioning the glabella, which evokes Muldoon's pediatric trivia item #105:

The glabellar reflex is a primitive neurologic reflex present in newborns. Gently tapping a finger between the infant's eyebrows will result in blinking of the eyes, but with continued tapping the eye blinks subside.

But my all time favorite newborn reflex is the asymmetric tonic neck reflex, also known as the 'fencing' reflex. Turning an infant's head toward one side (chin-to-shoulder) results in the arm on that side eextending, while the arm on the opposite side flexes (like reaching up toward his ear). Those of you with access to infants can try this at home. It's even better if you forcefully say "En garde!!" while performing this maneuver. Enjoy!!

That's always been one of the problems the left wanted to iron over. The official classification of Russia, since the Clinton administration has been "ally". It's hard then to make the claim that Russia is also an "enemy" since you're trying to deprive somebody of their personal freedom over an iffy classification.

But...and here's the fun part...if you press your finger into the sole of a newborn's foot, just below the toes, the toes will do the same grasping action. Not sure how that translates in survival terms...

The prime example is Jonathan King's 1965 hit "Everyone's Gone To The Moon," which he wrote on a bet, after being challenged to write a hit song whose lyrics were completely nonsensical.

I only filed the request yesterday. The mandate doesn't come into effect for a month. I expect to be rejected, in which case, I quit.

Also, in regard to my 1776 friends sharing vax status, I replied vaguely, letting them presume I had the shot. We will see what happens, though if I am directly challenged, I am not going to lie.

Also, TJM, hope to be sending out Dreams to you and others within a couple of weeks. I'm on the last chapter, but with my schedule this week, I probably won't be able to get back to it until Friday afternoon.

Italian star Adriano Celentano wrote a song that was actually gibberish. He looked at the huge popularity of English-language rock and roll in Italy combined with the relative lack of competent English speakers in that country, and this led him to do an experiment. He wrote a song that *sounds* like English but actually has no real words in it other than "all right." It uses common English sounds/morphemes/phonemes/etc., but the words are just gibberish.

The song was reasonably successful, but as a native English speaker it's incredibly weird. I keep looking for words. It sounds *almost* like words, but not quite - sort of like listening to a radio playing a couple of rooms over.

283 Seems to me that if Dems want to make the argument that the Logan Act is in play, that Milley violated the Logan Act.

This cannot be said of Flynn, unless the Obama administration wants to come forward and say that Flynn subverted the American policy of a vindictive action on Russia/Putin's part to retaliate for the expulsion of delegates, Flynn's one general message of "Don't go overboard" hardly thwarts the diplomacy of the short-lived Obama administration.

Meanwhile, "I promise I'll tell you if we attack you" would run as a direct contradiction to the administration policy unless an administration were to "accidently plan an attack" against China.

It's clear that if the Logan Act is in play, Milley violates it, it is still farcical that Flynn did.

Here's a technique I used to suggest to parents for giving oral meds or eye drops, or nasal bulb suctioning for ages as young as maybe 6 months to as old as 3 years.

Sit on the floor with your legs out in front of you. place the toddler on his back, with his head between your upper thighs. Place the child's arms under your thighs, and press down and in with your legs, securing his arms and head. If needed, you can cross your lower legs over his legs to control kicking. This leaves both of your hands free to administer the medicine, and voila.

Which was Joel's real talent: to distill something like that into a memorable pop song. His "Keepin' the Faith" still hangs in there as a great paean to the (mostly mythical) Fifties.

445 Which was Joel's real talent: to distill something like that into a memorable pop song. His "Keepin' the Faith" still hangs in there as a great paean to the (mostly mythical) Fifties.

"I thought I was the Duke of Earl
When I made it with a red-head girl
In a Chevrolet . . ."

And "We Didn't Start the Fire" is a tour de force.

True.

In my area, the focus is soccer and swimming. From quite an early age it is totally possible to send your kid seven days a week, especially in swimming, and hours daily with a probably unreachable Olympic "dream" and an NCAA fall back (also rarely achieved) I've seen plenty of kids running around with icepacks on their shoulders on a nightly basis. The parents love this shit

462 McCartney has a freakish gift for melody, but except with John he just doesn't write memorable songs

McCartney simply writes better pop/rock melodies than 99% of the music writers out there. Wass a gift for arranging as well.

But...lyrics, well...sometimes he writes great ones or turns a nice phrase and you wonder where this guy's been all along, but it's rare.

His music unfortunately probably dies with him.

487 "Italian star Adriano Celentano wrote a song that was actually gibberish. He looked at the huge popularity of English-language rock and roll in Italy combined with the relative lack of competent English speakers in that country, and this led him to do an experiment. He wrote a song that *sounds* like English but actually has no real words in it other than "all right." It uses common English sounds/morphemes/phonemes/etc., but the words are just gibberish."
