The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

The academy was one of the first targets of the Long March, and nowhere else has it been so wildly successful. It embraces every crackpot pseudo-scientific nonsense if there is a possibility that its acceptance will further fracture the country into pressure groups and angry minorities and all of the divisions that will hasten the destruction of our glorious experiment: American Exceptionalism.

That most of the academy are unaware of the real goals of that Long March and are simply useful idiots to be used and discarded is secondary. They dutifully divide and destroy.

A Generation of American Men Give Up on College: 'I Just Feel Lost'

At the close of the 2020-21 academic year, women made up 59.5% of college students, an all-time high, and men 40.5%, according to enrollment data from the National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit research group. U.S. colleges and universities had 1.5 million fewer students compared with five years ago, and men accounted for 71% of the decline.

This education gap, which holds at both two- and four-year colleges, has been slowly widening for 40 years. The divergence increases at graduation: After six years of college, 65% of women in the U.S. who started a four-year university in 2012 received diplomas by 2018 compared with 59% of men during the same period, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

In the next few years, two women will earn a college degree for every man, if the trend continues, said Douglas Shapiro, executive director of the research center at the National Student Clearinghouse.

Well! Maybe American men have had enough. Whether this is a real trend or a temporary shift remains to be seen, but it is abundantly clear to all but the most obtuse among us that men are a primary target of the shrieking harpies on campuses across America. They are White; they like guns, they have sex with women, and they tend to be more conservative than women. Sounds awful, and certainly that kind of behavior doesn't belong on college campuses, where those attributes are mocked and deconstructed and attacked both in the classroom and on the streets.

So why go to college? Sure, Griggs vs. Duke Power Co. made actual intelligence and skill something to be measured only indirectly...with a college degree. But in a post-modern America, there are fewer and fewer people who know how to change a tire or build a house or fix cars or pave roads, and the dilution of a college degree by the explosion of nonsense classes and departments and majors has made them much less valuable.

If I had a high school senior in my home, I would make sure he thought long and hard about exactly what he thinks he will get out of college besides the non-trivial chance of being accused of rape, being a nazi, a white supremacist or whatever the evil flavor of the month may be.

The interesting question is: where are all of these women going to work? Sure HR always needs drones, and teaching is a fallback, but how many Starbucks are there in America that doesn't already have a glut of earnest women appropriately tattooed and pierced, just waiting for their big break to make that cappuccino foam just perfect!

True, but if that's all you do then you're probably not going to make much coin. There's money in taking off your clothes in person. If it's mediated, you have to do a lot more. There's a lot more competition and your competition *will* crank up the action, deviance, exoticism to get more paying subscribers. A cute young chick baring herself on camera - but doing nothing else - will move the needle in a dark club, but not in an essentially unfettered online porno market.

83 Let's not forget the young men who were forced out of college because of the Obama-ear Title IX "hearings." I accompanied one young man to one of these hearings. He had been given two black eyes by his girlfriend--who had a history of violence towards others in the school, as well as a history hospitalization for mental illness. She was also prone to constant threats to break up with him if he saw friends or did anything she didn't like. When he had finally had enough and broke up with her she retaliated by filing claims of physical abuse under the absurd Title IX rules. Despite the fact that the evidence did not even meet the low standards set by the Obama administration and she was caught in multiple lies during the hearing, she prevailed. The young man was kicked out of school and stuck with the bill for the semester. Now he is barred from any colleges within the state school system--or in other words, any colleges he could afford. She continued her implosion and washed out of college a few weeks later. Under Trump, Betsy DeVos stopped most of this nonsense but Biden had made bringing the Obama policies back a priority.

147 Best choice for young men is an online 4 year degree. Skip the college campus. You can work in your field, still get the degree, and get past the HR requirement for larger companies.

My son did exactly this when he got sick of installing AC during the summer. Got a job at Raytheon while getting an online degree.

For HR departments, it is literally a checkbox. Going to a "good school" is irrelevant. Once you are in the door, no one ever asks what school you went to, unless talking about who is playing football on Saturday.

BINGO!! College isn't there to teach you how to do a specific job. It's to teach you how to approach and solve problems, manage time, analyze and interpret data, etc. A good example is you'll see a lot of engineering and math majors working on Wall St. They didn't learn how to be a trader, but what they learned is applicable to trading.

Too many people treat college like trade school. It's not. If you approach it that way, you're not doing it right.

211 I wanted to finish my bachelors degree in Comp Sci. Went to this one university where they put me in a Comp Sci 101 course because I didn't know their systems (PDP Vax). Course was on a language called Ada - A department of defense language. And we were 8 hours from any military installation that would use that. The professor, actually the chair of the Comp Sci curriculum - had her doctorate in psychology. Decided she wanted to do IT, took just enough courses so she would qualify to teach it. Never ever worked a day outside of academia.

Yes, for women. And for men, it is householding, sex and child-rearing acquisition. For both, it's mutual support, companionship and assistance in the damned difficult business of life. It's a trade. That isn't a bad thing. But if both parties don't understand - or accept - the terms of the transaction, it will fail because reality will misalign against expectations.

A brain surgeon got home from a long day of late surgeries and stumbled into the house at 2:30 AM. He found his toilet blasting water all through his downstairs. In an exhausted tizzy, he called a 24-hour plumber who arrived 30 minutes later.

The plumber looked at the leak, turned the valve off, tightened the fitting, turned the valve back on and said, "You're all set. That'ss be $500."

The surgeon railed, "You did a half hour's work including travel! I'm a brain surgeon and I don't earn $1,000 an hour!"

You're still only voting for a Party oligarchy that rules without regard to elections and their consequences - there are no consequences to "winning" or "losing," because there is only one Party.

And, that Party's elected officials have no influence, in any event. The permanent government holds every card. They are only spokesmen. The overall situation is unfixable, with or without clean elections.

If you want a point of reference for what I'm describing here, just think about Donald Trump and Kevin Clinesmith. That's a nice little encapsulation of how this regime operates.

283 My Son has a college degree. He is a Master Plumber, as he makes 5 times the money he was making with his degree in Criminal Justice.

He own his own business yet? Have a buddy that did that. Apprentice to Master to owning his own business to having a fleet working for him. Now? He buys and flips houses WHILE still owning the plumbing business.

284 Becoming really successful absolutely requires a kolledj degree. For example, look at Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.

Oh, wait!

Exceptions that prove the rule I guess.

286 "Blinken Denies Flights Being Blocked by Taliban, Blames Evacuees for Not Having Proper Identification"

Bannon had on one of the guys funding those flights. He agreed not all had documentation maybe, but claimed they were people known by their networks ... Christian groups partly I guess. He also noted that many/most of the 50,000 (?) the state department brought to America are unvetted, undocumented.

hard to get the real story. Lots of stories say even the documented were blocked at the airport, sent home, given a phone number, or alternate locations. ...

291 Crew Cut,
If you are still here, the problem with Spoonerism is that he relies almost solely on the idea of personal sovereignty. The particular example of his writing that you cite is almost all polemic. That does not make it incorrect but rather incomplete. That is, he recognizes no other authority than himself and like most ideologues, he uses historical examples as argumentation but ignores the reasons why history developed the way that it did.

His notion that every single person over history has to contract with a government for it to be legitimate to that person has already been dealt with by numerous political philosophers such as Rousseau, Locke, etc. In practice, it is impossible--in truth, you will be bound up in obligations--some from the society in which you live, others by your own sense of morality. That is pretty much why the Framers talked of liberty, not so much about freedom. Liberty is something government can deprive you off--but in reality, your freedom can be curtailed by any number of people aside from government, e.g. family, debt, poverty, illness, etc.

292 FWIW, those numbers are reversed in the hard-STEM disciplines. Women do go into engineering at higher rates, but the math & physical science disciplines only see about a 1:4 ratio of degrees awarded to women vs. men.

When my sister got her PhD in Astrophysics back in the 90's, there were only twelve women in the world who had that degree.

293 Can't say I used much of my college degree. The "systems engineering" I did in the computer biz didn't use much of the college engineering material. A better reason is found in the bastardized lyrics to "My bonnie lies over the ocean" which I learned in Navy ROTC:

Some join for their love of the country.
Some join for their love of the sea.
But I was a Regular Rot-see,
I joined for the college degree!

297 Starve the beast. The best scenario would be a government which either 1) bans any and all government money to any institution teaching CRT, discrimination (quotas), and speech codes, and/or 2) no more government-backed student loans. Let these institutions try to get students with their over-inflated tuition or bloated overhead ("diversity officers" as an example.)

302 Imagine defunding every corrupt aspect of the State. All it takes is sufficient electoral success with candidates of the requisite intensity. MAGA needs to focus on the underclass, with every vote won on our side subtracted from their. Think vouchers, a repurposed military focused on Guard/Reserve training (other than China facing), STEM only educational funding etc. Separate the underclass from the left and you destroy the democrat party. The Moynihan Report identified the destruction of the family as the root cause of (black) community dysfunction. Address this and you win.

303 It is the same for the military, no young men I know desire to serve in the military, it's not fear or the discipline it's the gay themes, the obvious waste of effort to even try to fight a war and win.
It is a foolish endeavor that has no benefits.
My families military experience goes back to the 1860's for sure, My Father, Me, My son, My Brother and his sons, but today I tell my grandson's, do not go into the military, and watch what they teach you in college.
They agree.
