NPR Poll: Biden Hits New Low... of 43%
Say, isn't that Trump's average level of support, according to leftwing polls which skew probably +5 to +10 Democrat?
Amid the chaos of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, President Biden's approval rating slid to just 43% in the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll. That is down 6 percentage points from a survey conducted in July and is the lowest mark for Biden in the poll since taking office. The decline is principally due to independents -- just 36% of them approve of the job he's doing, a 10-point drop. That a majority of independents now disapprove of his performance is bad news for Biden and Democrats. They're a key swing group, one Biden won in 2020 but who now think he's off track.Yeah he "won" them.

Republicans have struggled to drum up the kind of animus toward Biden as they did for, say, Hillary Clinton. But now, seven months into his presidency, they seem to have found what to grind their teeth about, from cultural and economic issues to Afghanistan. A whopping 41% of U.S. adults, including 82% of Republicans, now strongly disapprove of the job Biden is doing. That is similar to the unprecedented enmity shown toward President Donald Trump.
Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen Hicks has an op-ed published in The Hill titled "Addressing Racial Disparities in the Military Justice System" last night. The level of tone-deafness coming for the Biden administration cannot be understated. The only reason for such timing for a piece like this from the Pentagon right now is to serve as a distraction from the reporting on the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. It is shameful.
The chaotic end to America's longest war has sparked the biggest crisis of President Joe Biden's seven months in the White House, finger-pointing within the administration and questions about who, if anyone, would be held responsible. ... Current and former officials and lawmakers said there is little appetite for Biden to fire or demote top advisers over the handling of the U.S. withdrawal. The Democratic president, meanwhile, has strongly defended his administration's actions. Frustrated and angry, officials at the Pentagon have privately blamed the lack of urgency leading up to the airlift on the State and Homeland Security departments, who in turn have blamed the White House for slow decision-making. "Finger-pointing is an ugly Washington sport ... in this case, fingers could be pointed in all directions and probably be right in each case," said Dan Fried, a former senior U.S. diplomat now at the Atlantic Council think tank. "A failure like this is collective. Everybody screwed up," Fried added. A source familiar with the matter defended the evacuation planning and said the State Department was unaware of any concerns at the Department of Defense about a lack of urgency in the effort. White House officials told Reuters that firings have not been discussed, but the administration expects Congress to aggressively investigate the turbulent exit from Afghanistan in hearings. One Biden administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said any dismissal would be seen as a tacit admission that the president had erred in removing troops unconditionally from the South Asian nation.They should take a page from the NeverTrumpers, such as David Frum, Max Boot, and Jonah Goldberg, and shift blame from Biden (and therefore themselves) to "the nation" or "the American people." You can't fire the American people, right? Or... can you?

That's not how it works. They don't have absolute control of the narrative. The can nudge, and shade, and lie, in places. That's enough, under normal circumstances. But they can't just not cover major stories. I expect they'll push it off the front page with other, objectively more minor stuff as quickly as possible.
But this could still get much worse for Biden. The administration is lying about exactly how many Americans are stuck there, which they can get away with for the time being, but if the Taliban start parading people around in blindfolds the best the Democrats can do is throw Biden under the bus.

Been happening since the late 80's at least in the Navy.
For senior enlisted promotions, they send the records of all those in that job to a board in DC. Where, according to a Captain who was in CHARGE of one of my promotion boards, there are three stacks of records.
One, Ethnic minorities. One, Women. One... White Guys. They would then have a quota of Minorities, and Women candidates to promote, and would promote the top candidates in said stacks... until they reached their goal... then go through the White Guys.
Problem was, in my particular Job (Electronics Tech) it was over 90% White Males... and with them wanting to promote at least 15% total Blacks, and 20% or more women per year... Blacks and Women would be promoted FAR easier, than a White Male.
Can't imagine the quota system has changed since I retired.

We got a used tv at some point. It was one of those massive ones that sat on the ground and had like 5 inches of extra wood on each side for the speakers. For whatever reason the scrambling for cinemax on that tv was not good so you could get a very clear picture, think old antenna style broadcast right as you get it clear of static so you can see but not fully tuned. Junior and Senior year 4-5 others guys would come over on Mondays and we'd watch wrestling and attempt to work on Chemistry/Physics homework. And sometimes we'd flip it over to Skinemax and see if there were tits and decide real or fake.

saw emanuelle 3d back in the day at the blue mouse in salt lake city. it was a red/blue film, but in color; all the previous red/blue films i'd seen were black and white. it worked surprisingly well in color, except for outdoors scenes that involved brake lights on cars; those only showed up in one eye, so they looked weird.

I mentioned last night they were forecasting 3-5 inches of rain here in MA. That would be an extraordinary amount of rain within 24 hours.
I think we got an 1 inch, maybe less.
We can't even get an honest weather forecast, today.

You're a decade too late. The Clean Air Act started hitting cars gently in the late '60s, hard in the mid '70s, unleaded gas hit the market in '74? and catalysts (which require unleaded) were used in most cars starting in '75. Detroit was mostly shipping garbage from about '73 until into the '80s, Detroit began their lemming-march to FWD in the late '70s (figure engineering starts 4-5 years before the product ships.)
Things started to improve a bit in the mid '80s.

Unleaded came in but there was still leaded gas until the 80s. CAFE came in slow but the ship hit the sand in 78. Big Three were rolling with old technology and plumbed the hell out of the engines to meet CAFE standards.
78 through 82 cars were the worst.
The POINT being that we are rolling into an analogue of that time period - the last two years of Biden and there will be a radical change in vehicle options.
Now may be the best time to buy a vehicle for the next ten years.
