Mules are amazing strong and reliable animals with incredible senses. I've seen images of a mule kicking and stomping a mountain lion to death, heard stories of them destroying wolves, etc. Great work animal, just not very nice.
We have an old Our Gang short on film, stored away, but I have no idea how good a shape it is in after all this time. Might even have some value.

I had my left done first, the straight ear, then the right. That was OK, by the code of the time. It didn't mean "bi" or anything. But you had to do it in the right order if you were straight. Left, then right. Could have just done both at once, but the single-earring was "in" first so I started with just one. I was in a rock band and it kind of came with the territory. I eventually had several in each ear. Most of them closed up long ago. Haven't worn any in ages.

Just read a book about a couple of brothers (one brother wrote it) who did a modern-day crossing of the Oregon Trail in a wagon powered by a pair of mules. Learned a lot about them in reading it. Stubborn and skittish but powerful, tireless workers that work longer and need far less feed than horses.
I'd recommend the book, but I can't. The author was a damn lefty who infested an otherwise decent book with his leftist horseshit. Also an insufferable elitist. Surprised me, wouldn't think the type of person that would undertake such a journey would be a leftist asshole.

This bullshit about "OH NOES! We're almost out of ICU beds!" is complete, total bullshit. The ICUs typically run 80-90% capacity or more, otherwise they're bleed money having staffed, unfilled beds sitting around.
And it's even more bullshit because if they hadn't run off so many nurses and doctors with a near-total lack of proper PPE stockpiling, followed by heaps of hospital-admin driven pandemic theater and then vaccination mandates, the ICU's would be at historic levels of vacancy because nobody wants to fucking go to the hospital the last, oh, year or so.

My Jr High & HS were full of "boat people" from Nam, Cambodia & Laos. Many came with almost no education, I'm sure many had PTSD, for the most part they fit right in and did great.

I also don't know what responsibility UK has for securing the airport. 82d GRF is a heavy battalion so maybe 900ish. I don't know how many on the ground but I think the number prior to a week ago was only 2500, I think most of those are out of country.
Now another thing that Austin did not say explicitly is that there is some deal that allowed the 82d to land at HKIA so long as they did not leave the airport grounds but that seems to be the case.

In the Si valley, I dated a native who was more familiar with the culture, and she used to joke that whenever something crazy happens, it's a Vietnamese. I think this came up once when someone stole a Koala from the zoo as gift for his girlfriend and she said "I bet it's a vietnamese" and I told her Koala are native to Australia. Anyway, she explained and I think she was right. They seem to be a very colorful culture, but a real honesty to them. Hard to explain.

She leaves, and another nurse sees him 30 minutes later, hand him some paperwork he has to fill out, and tells him to wait for the doctor. After another 40 minutes, he finally gets to see the doctor. Doctor says, "So, why are you here today"? Man says, "To drop off your new blinds".
