Gas prices in California, via Steve Inman

Note: qdpsteve says that California's gas prices aren't that high, and average $4.37 for regular.

But this article notes that one station, in northern California, sold gas for $6.73 per gallon on July 4.

So while the above prices may be higher than the norm, they do not seem to be implausible.

Nevertheless, qdpsteve's context about the average price of gas in California is appreciated.

Thanks to Buzzion: here's proof of the difference in sports performance between biological men and biological women. In a mixed-sex relay race (I didn't know they had that) Nigeria had a man run the third leg of the 4x400 women's relay, against women running the third leg.

It wasn't close. He blew the women away and built up a huge lead.

But then the Nigerian man handed off the baton to the woman running the fourth leg, and she had to compete with all men in that last lap.

And then all the men overcame her.

I mentioned this earlier, but here's video of that NYT columnist declaring that "sophisticated crowds" don't have to observe masking/distancing/maximum size of gatherings, courtesy of Huck Follywood:

The Ruling Class is increasingly brazen about straight-up asserting their Aristocratic Privileges and Immunities.

Director of The Plot Against the President (and John (director of Conan, writer of Apocalypse Now) Milius' daughter) Amanda Milius says she's sick of leftwingers telling her they will excuse her abhorrent views and tolerate her.

She's decided to no longer tolerate them.

A decision more and more of us are making. No more bleating about friendship and kinship meaning more than politics.

You want a cold civil war?

Fine. You got one.

Amanda Milius
@AmandaMilius
The best is when old leftist friends who have an 80 IQ at best and are aging out of anyone paying attn to them, write me "omg yr so funny I hate DJT and your politics and everything you do but I still [heart emoji' you". Like that's something I give a fuck about.

And they can't believe it / are like shocked and hurt when I say "you know I also actually hate everything about you as well especially your unbelievably trite and uneducated political views and everything you're interested in is retarded boring and juvenile, but yes you as a "person", I "still" "accept" you too [queen emoji].

Like I'm supposed to be grateful the dumbest most boring people I ever knew in LA still follow me. Leftist think they're the only ones who "hate" the opposition. Always ensure they know that you do too. Has a right wing person ever reached out to an
old friend and said "you know I hate your politics but I just wanted to say I think you’re acceptable"? No. Bc these idiots are that fucking arrogant and convinced of moral superiority.

GTFO yr life is mundane don't contact me.

Adding one more thought to the rant- The thing that's the most brain dead self obsessed and out of touch is they truly honestly think it's a kind, bigger person moment for them.

They sat there and were like "you know what, I felt a human emotion towards an old friend who I cut off arbitrarily bc I can't handle the political thoughts I got off Instagram, I'm doing really well in my rehab and yoga practice I'm feeling kind of generous I'll reach out to someone eons more successful than I am and tell them I still approve of their being alive".

I think falling TV ratings and box office take for movies might represent a spreading cascade of conservatives deciding that they, too, have decided that they will put politics ahead of other concerns going forward.

And it's about time we did.

Endlessly bleating "We should staaaay frenzzzz" has not done anything to tamp down these vile lunatics' hatred. It's time to match contempt with contempt and ostracization with ostracization and boycott with boycott.

The below video explains the mass psychosis surrounding covid -- and the Ruling Class' use of this psychosis to seize dictatorial control -- without ever saying the word "covid." (Which is wise -- YouTube just banned SkyNews Australia for presenting both sides of the debate on whether masking is effective and whether lockdowns are effective enough to be worth depriving people of their freedom. The world's biggest monopolist of all time has decided that The Debate Is Over.)

If you can't watch it during the work day, maybe bookmark it and watch it when you have time.

One term of psychosis he defined -- a "psychotic break." Which is apparently a reaction to overwhelming panic/stress. The victim of a psychotic break attempts to make sense of his panic-filled, stressful world by inventing a narrative which comforts him -- but which is filled with delusions and breaks from facts and reality.

Nevertheless, his new (delusional) worldview eases his panic and madness.

Does that sound like it applies to 81 million people (allegedly) you know?

If you didn't follow Maoist rules or Soviet lies, you would be killed. Do you mouthily tell Stalin "fuck you" when he would shoot you, starve your kids, deny you employment? Or do you pretend like the shit you read is indeed "pravda". Mostly, here, elderly people are really afraid, I know few people my age and younger who believe the mask crap, but what are you going to do, get fired? As for the rest of the junta tactics, all those people in DC jail while BLM walked sends a powerful message, and one that can't be cured with neuroleptics. Self-preservation in the face of evil and lies is no more mental illness than is evil and lies. Painting scared people and evil bastards as "ill" does not make it the least bit true.

34 The Italy Steve Inman tweet is really interesting...the vaccinati are burning their cards.

I think the tide has turned against the jab in Italy due to some pretty high profile deaths among the young people. These caused the govt to ban the jab for teens.

The Calabria town where one woman died actually went into grieving for her - the mayor called a day of mourning. And the other young woman's surgeon described how when he operated on her brain he had never seen a brain in such an inflamed, clotted state.

So this is the kind of stuff that kind of turns people off.

Yes, that's also the official doctrine of Australia (Covid Zero), which is batshit insanity and literally impossible to hit. However, it does allow them to enslave the population because of a literal handful of cases in a metro area with millions of residents.

They could get away with it when it was something treacly like Portland's "Vision Zero" (which has the purported goal of reducing traffic fatalities to zero), but this is just straight up totalitarianism.

Chances are pretty good you're right. Although, the typical prices in my neck of the woods is premium right at $5/gal. If I'm in San Jose, it's about $5.50ish. We'll be seeing $6+ soon enough.

67 I've found the best-priced gas here in SoCal right now is at VonsGas. Second is AM/PM and a small chain whose name escapes me right now, which are only about 5 to 10 cents more per gallon.

Other than AM/PM, VonsGas and the other chain don't have very many locations. Also, prices can vary (sometimes wildly) from spot to spot.

I've made fairly recent trips to the inland San Diego area (El Cajon/Jamul) and Rancho Mirage, and gas in those spots also tends to be about $4.40/gal.

68 What's funny about that video is that it assumes that "Mass Psychosis" is a different state rather than simply, and most probably a locus along the spectrum.

Or that there are times when "mankind" is attached to "reality" and times when they are not.

If God is not part of reality then times when Man thinks of "Equality" as a thing, indicate (to me) a "break with reality", because Equality is not something that is 1) defined among people, 2) measurable, 3) empirical, 4) a common conception except as an abstraction, whose attachment to reality is debatable. Also, it kind of goes against the evolutionary theory that the "fittest" survive.

But I listen on...

76 Note: qdpsteve says that California's gas prices aren't that high, and average $4.37 for regular.

But this article notes that one station, in northern California, sold gas for $6.73 per gallon on July 4.

So while the above prices may be higher than the norm, they do not seem to be implausible.

Posted by: Ace at 06:01 PM

So gasoline isn't really 6 bucks per gallon. Only 4 and half bucks per gallon. Somehow this isn't comforting.

(I would assume, much like in the U.S, they are all going in a database somewhere held by the Italian government, ala CDC?)

Speaking of going in a database. Went to see my (soon to be
Ex) PCP last week, and, my word as a Biden, when the nurse assistant and I finished going round and round about the vaccine, she looked at me and says, "So, you're NOT going to get the vaccine?" When I confirmed that with a rather emphatic, "That is correct. I am NEVER going to take the vaccine!" She gives me "a look" and then says, "OK then, I have to do THIS!" and proceeds to clackety-clack me into the computer in the corner with a super smug look on her face.

149 Truly a quibble, for which I am justly famous, ace, but I'm not sure what "both" sides of the mask debate would be.

There's weak evidence of minor benefit from masks used in contexts other than those under discussion - that is, real life - and aside from that, bupkis.

Most pertinent, fresh, high-powered randomized controlled trial, done specifically WRT C19, found no benefit.

So, I guess, the "pro" mask side of the argument would rest on dubious and minor possible benefit for properly fit/worn N95s in a clinical (not everyday), context, with laughable anecdotes from a MO hair salon tossed in??

Vs. 70 years of actual scientific research and observation.

Rephrasing MIT's definition:
COVID 19 offsets are tradable "rights" or certificates linked to activities that lower the amount of SARSCoV2 virii in the air. By buying these certificates, you can fund projects that fight COVID 19, instead of taking actions to lower their own COVID emissions.

188 What's this about CA Morons and roads, ace? Aren't people talkin' gas prices?

The roads thing is simple. 30-40 years ago, CA had generally outstanding road quality and condition. CalTrans was a true pioneer in many things (as were many entities, including public, in CA of that era). Those who grew up here then would be shocked at the roads back east, and also the lameness of the road agencies (still recall the first time I saw the VADOT crews doing needed fixes or maintenance *at night*, duh, as was always the practice here in high-traffic regions).

Now? Well, part of the problem is pop growth/traffic density. Part. There appears to have been a large secular decline in the management end, local guvamint. Of course. Which is evident in every facet of life.

However, one huge bit of progress: what were moderate/low income - but totally safe, and overall decently compensated - guvamint jobs back then are now very well-paying, lavishly benefit-ed positions.

Wait. Maybe that's not progress.

Every major city has one of these gas stations that has insane prices for gas. They prey on the unfamiliar and unknowing rental car customers. Bet this station is in Downtown LA or Frisco, or maybe on the major highway leading to their airports. Running on a tight schedule, need to fill the rental car? Who cares about the cost, it goes on the expense report? We had a rip-off priced station in Bloomington MN near the Minneapolis Saint Paul Airport. They switched the price from $ per gallon to $ per Liter at night after the other stations closed. The local newspapers and TV stations took turns running "Exposes" about the terrible behavior during sweeps weeks.

Not far from where I live in LA County, there's a gas station almost right next to a freeway off-ramp. However, there's a gas station just a few blocks away, that's part of the exact same chain. And there is a *huge* difference in prices between the two stations. I haven't compared prices recently, but in the past I've seen prices at the one next to the freeway that were over a dollar more per gallon compared to the further station.

Latest episode was talking with deputy director of the small D-Day museum in Portsmouth about airborne ops that were cancelled, between D-Day and Market Garden (17 operations).

And speaking of Holland, and Italy, reading his book "Italy's Sorrow" now. Jeebus the Italian armistice/side-switch with the Allies was one of the most complicated, most effed up Charlie Foxtrots evah. And tragic, with much murder and misery for Italians. Seems every side botched it - well, except the bad guys, the Germans, who had anticipated Italy switching sides and were ready to pounce.

247 The problem with any of this is that even with all this knowledge of the structure of totalitarian government, they present as words on the page.

The libs have always liked words, and they do not want to see themselves as the bad guy, so, it's part of their suppression to make the case that *you* are the real totalitarian. Thus the white *supremacist* "threat".

And we end up word-fighting with a group that assumes the position of authority on what comprises what. It will take an actual descent into totalitarianism and crashing the car against the brick wall on the other side to force people to see who was really in what role.

Because the civil conversation trends against what cannot be proven. And if they haven't fully proven themselves the totalitarians that they are becoming, one has to wait for a totalitarian situation that has already shaped the power that prevents the extrication.

Only listened to the album a couple of times. In spite of owning Styx back in the day, they never really did a lot for me. Although the lack of Dennis is a definite improvement. That particular song almost sounds like John Lennon is spots.

They're probably better than they've ever been, The Mission was surprisingly good. And I tell you, I never thought I'd say they're better than the tribute band formerly known as Yes. That debacle surrounding their latest single didn't bode well. They really need to hang up their patch cords and call it a day.

Over the years I've figured most of them out, but some of those southern mountain-people phrases are real head-scrathchers. Amanda Knox. She actually put up an interesting article a week or two ago that bemoaned how her name and reputation isn't really her own anymore. 268 Not far from where I live in LA County, there's a gas station almost right next to a freeway off-ramp. However, there's a gas station just a few blocks away, that's part of the exact same chain. And there is a *huge* difference in prices between the two stations. I haven't compared prices recently, but in the past I've seen prices at the one next to the freeway that were over a dollar more per gallon compared to the further station.

We had a station locally, a franchise operation, that was in some kind of a dispute with - think it was an Exxon at the time - licensing operation. So the owner set the price a buck higher than everyone else in the area just specifically NOT to sell anything and get bought out.

Holland's book right now is describing the cases of several Italian soldiers, and what they faced after Sept. 8 - total vacuum of authority, feared German reprisals etc, and very mixed reactions to the armistice and lots of other things. Good buddies, senior mentors/junior officers, would have wildly mixed instincts and took different courses. Total mess.

Yes, that's all I could figure. This would imply that the speed of one individual is in some way a function of the speed in other lanes. Which would make sense psychologically. And it would also indicate that runners in these sorts of things have behaviors like shear layers in fluids where momentum is imparted transverse to the velocity vector. I see this in traffic all the time. The bumper-to-bumper traffic in the right lane should have no effect on the left lane. But it does. You don't want to drive fast by slow objects because that's scary so everyone is slowed down by the cascading sum of everyone's fear.

It means "eat a fig out of a donkey's ass." But it's a very, very bad thing in Italian. The etymology of this rather odd phrase kind of escapes me even though I've looked it up.

IMO, Trump has always been a classic blue dog democrat from NY. But when you consider that JFK would now be a right wing fringe kook, it makes sense. The left has moved so far left that they dragged the center far to the left as well. There really was a time that democrats stood for something besides communism. Now loving the country is a crime for them. Funny how the media and country loved Trump all the way up until the realized he was serious about his run. They hate republicans, but they hate perceived turncoats even more.

For a number of years, I-35 running out of downtown Dallas south there was a completely dedicated HOV lane separated from all other traffic by Jersey barriers. It was like a pipe with no way to get on or off other than at the extreme ends.

So while traffic is stop and go for rush hour, there was always some doofus blocking the HOV lane moving half to a third of the speed of traffic on the other side of the concrete barriers. There were no cars ahead of these slow pokes for miles. I called it the "Sympathy Slowdown". Completely irrational. I have a sinking feeling the real smoking guns have been dealt with as far as machine records. Because those might come back and tie actual names to the theft. At worst, it'll be human error. Pretty sure if there was something truly damning, we'd have heard it. AZ had months to cover their tracks, and a gameplan to accomplish it. So the left saying "yes that does do a good job showing how bad ORANGE Emmanual Goldstein BAD was and how great Dear Leader is" follows from their delusion.

I'm a quarter Sicilian. Full blooded Greeks, sometimes insist we are brothers due to the Sicilian/Greek link.

387 > So one is roaring past stopped cars in the next lane, in the 80s.

On a trip from Monterey, CA to Palm Springs I hooked up with an Audi R8, Merc S-something and my poor old E36 BMW... doing 125 and change on I-5. For 70 miles.

It felt like the car was floating on air.

388 If there's no paper trail in the Maricopa audit process, I mean a permanent physical thing to check in the form of ballots, for their authenticity, as well as against the tabulation ..... then the entire election process is a farce. An audit should verify both the tabulation, and the legitimacy of the ballots.

389 ace, not sure where that 76 pic up top was taken but where I am, gas is available for as low as $3.89/gal. The average in my area is about $4.30, again, still too much, but not over $6.

Santa Monica Blvd * N Crescent Dr., Beverly Hills.
It's famous location that's been in a bunch of music vids in the late 80s, early 90s.

393 I had 5 legal immigant uncles from the same side of my mom's family (12 kids!) fight in WWII. I'm pretty damn proud of that. Nobody made a "Saving Private Gambini" out of that.

Also had the first Italian-American attorney in my home county, my great-grandfather, another legal immigrant, as they all were. A great-uncle founded a school to teach *legal* Italian, Polish and Middle Eastern Christian immigrants English, and how to do American banking, and court appearances and such. One immigrant wing of my family co-founded the Republican Party in my home county.

And then there were pimps, rum-runners, and mobbed up guys, and at least one cold-blooded murderer. Angels and devils in every family tree. Angeli e diavoli.

It gets really fun when you've got those single drivers who are trying to zip along, then dive back into the #2 lane if they think there's a cop ahead. So those idiots are banging along at 80+, and suddenly some clown hits the brakes and tries to dive into a tiny opening, hoping somebody isn't moving into that spot from the right side.

I so very much do not miss commuting. My friend who lives in Freaking LA will call me on his way home, and to listen to him screaming at the idiots and honking his horn remind me that they stopped drivers ed years ago, and 1:10 drivers are illegals with no insurance/registration and have throw-away cars.

The problem is California is still part of the US though I agree with your cultural assessment of California.

From a larger political perspective I am beyond annoyed at how California and New York drive national politics. Their leadership, if I dare call it that, has driven us over a cliff.

408 Watched a documentary on John Milius and they were talking about the downturn his career took following Red Dawn. It seems that despite that movie being extremely popular, the movie industry people hated it because it was America good, Communism bad. But really stoked me, was Oliver Stone saying, "the problem with John is that he got older but he didn't learn anything". I thought, you arrogant, insufferable m****r f****r. You think that the only was a person can mature is to adopt your way of thinking. That your thinking is the only way anyone should think. That no one is allowed to draw different conclusions from their life experiences.

No wonder his daughter is fed up with all of them.

Lalla had 400,000 over 4 days, nearly all who travel via enclosed vehicles, either cars, buses, trains, planes and from, through, and to an urban area, staying in hotels, in a city of 4Million+.
Sturgis is 450,000 over a week nearly all of whom travel solo or in pairs, traveling through hundreds of miles of wide open clean air, from, through, and to a rural area, staying mainly in campgrounds....in a town with a population of a mere 6,000
