99 While I have never been on the Bonhomme Richard, I did do a full tour in Engineering on another ship of the same class.

One distinct difference between the LHD's and a true Aircraft Carrier is the lack of ability to compartmentize the aircraft/vehicle areas during a conflagration.

Carrier hanger decks can be sealed off by massive fire curtains to limit the spread of fire horizontally along the length of the interior of the ship.

LHD's do not have this ability.

While this didn't cause the fire, it certainly contributed to the flames having the ability to spread far and wide.

If one looks at a cutaway side view of an LHD, and were to color in the connecting spaces from Lower Vehicle deck, to the well deck, up the vehicle ramp, and into the hanger deck, you would see that it is a rather large interior area.

This is usually well protected by installed/fixed firefighting systems.

140 "Although, wouldn't there need to be some alternative system(s) in place to serve those functions while the ship's system(s) were disabled or under maintenance?"

There are contractual requirements in place to provide for everything from supplemental firefighting stations to be temporarily installed, to requirements for quick-disconnects within things like torch hoses and stuff which temporarily pass through watertight doors, in able to quickly contain and then fight fires.

One of the Damage Control Assistant's (DCA) biggest headaches is the constant and unceasing touring of the ship which is required in order to ensure that these requirements are not being overlooked, or defeated.

It is not just an idle saying that one of the most dangerous locations for a Navy warship is in a shipyard/overhaul environment.

I suspect that while an individual caused the initial fire, investigation will reveal that fire boundary control and flammable liquid stowage policy had been ignored or defeated over time in the repair period. Thus contributing significantly to the loss of the ship.

I've been wondering about the sudden push in the Olympics for "mixed" events for men and women teams in swimming and track, etc.

Because, it pretty much just depends on how you deploy your strongest men against the women, so a stupid contest, however...

it makes total 'sense" if you want to soften up the public for the acceptance of trannies competing against women as "women". I mean, after all, we have mean nd women competing against each other in "mixed" events. Why can't "trans women" compete in women's sports?

I have to say, Our Betters don't miss a trick. Your children will be raised their way. And I suppose this plugs into "mixed" military units as well with women on the battlefield.

148 You'd think that after the loss of an asset of that magnitude, they'd be able to say say definitively what the sequence of events was that led to its destruction.

The article I read even suggested some uncertainty as to having a Court Marshal.

I'm beginning to see a pattern here: First, many areas in the former United States won't prosecute petty crimes, or for that matter crimes that would normally be prosecuted by junior attorneys. Second the youngsters in JAG can't prosecute the party guilty of the USS Bonhomme Richard imbroglio. Third, no matter who is appointed to the Supreme Court or any of the high courts, we get really wack rulings. Fourth, legislation generated these days is decidedly oriented towards social justice.

In each of these examples, the common denominator is relatively recent graduates from law school either as junior prosecutors or as court and congressional interns.

Then factor in what has been the primary teaching at many universities these days. Sow. Reap.

Nothing wrong with free range chickens. They're more expensive in every way, if true free range, but pay up and eat.

The problem is using the law to force free-range chickens on people/markets/producers/etc.

Chicken as a cheap meat is a great help to those on and lower/limited/defined income. And tastes fine as is.

So, no one is "against" free range chickens to think so makes you some kind of blockhead. The issue is do you have the right to force your preferences on everybody else to their detriment?

Would those senior member of the Navy's Officer Corp do the legwork to get a case prosecuted? You can't bless what doesn't come before you. In this case, the only case they could have made is one that is unsatisfactory to the senior staff of thirty years.

My original point being, is that recent graduates no longer even have the language to understand, let alone build and present a traditional legal case against property crimes. Procedural violations? Of course, the regulatory state requires that ability. Social Justice crimes? Probably primary focus of studies since law professors prefer "Academic Freedom" rather than passing on generations of legal tradition.

This generation has been taught to hate or at least not even recognize things that come natural to everyone else.

186 Chicken as a cheap meat is a great help to those on and lower/limited/defined income. And tastes fine as is.

In many places, "cheap meat" is what gets bagged in the field. I know of many families where their primary source of animal protein comes from what gets hunted.

Truly, in their case "vegetarian" is a synonym for "bad hunter".

When one has lived within Flag Rank for as long as these folk have, the failure of a junior JAG to have the legal mind to build a case would simply end in 'Get me someone who can'

Not to mention that it would almost certainly require acquiescence to the lesser punishment plan by even SecNav, if not even SecDef.

Let me suggest another line of reason.

Under Captain's Mast, the rules of evidence do not apply. It is simply Non-Judicial-Punishment,
You don't even get lawyer.
A Court Marshal has ALL rules of evidence in play.
And perhaps discovery could be a bitch for the Prosecution.

195 The only way to protect yourself and others is to wear a mask at all times. While at work, shopping, inside, outside, while sleeping. Don't even take it off for a second to kiss your spouse or kids. No brushing of teeth. If you must eat, drink pureed foods through a straw slipped under your mask. Removing even for a second may result in death. Masks are a great start, but they are not enough. You mist get the vaccine. Data suggests that 2 shots is not enough coverage. You should get a shot every time you leave your house. Daily vaccination is a great start, but we all mist practice isolation, too. Do not occupy any room with another human. For large rooms over 500 sq ft, it is acceptable to have 2 humans, but you should remain as far apart as the room will allow. This guidance includes children. Children especially should be completely isolated from contact with other humans. This is the only way to protect ourselves from certain death from this extremely deadly disease that occurred completely naturally.

You messed up and now are recommending that we kill each other because of your regulatory incompetence.

When in those rooms with more than one person, each person is required to stand in and face the opposite corner, only then, and only if the A/C is off, can this be done with acceptable levels of risk.

205 I just wanted to recommend this book again, because I won't be here for the book thread. It's a book for women-"Holy In the Moment" -simple ways to love God and enjoy your life Ginger Harrington. She is a Christian and wife of someone in the military (Maybe her husband was a chaplain, but I don't know.

We have been reading this in our pre-church study. Today's chapter 9 "Moments to think" is on thinking and how thoughts affect our personal and spiritual life. One suggestion she has is to do "but God" Instead of saying, God will strengthen me,but I have many problems...put God last in a sentence so that God is the last thing you think of , ie. "I have many problems, but God will strengthen me. You are relaying on the promise of God.

Have to go now."May you all have a blessed day

BTW, Your line of reasoning is good, I don't dispute it.

Have you seen the recent opinions and positions of flag rank officers these days? Many are fully on board with the Progressives and are advocating even more insanity.

Let me add, there has also been a remarkable degradation in teaching of reasoning and logic, to the point that third order consequences are never considered. (second order is asking a lot these days).

Therefore, it is far easier to bust someone for a possession or procedural crime because it doesn't require any work, nor any particular skill to prosecute since the defense has little to work with. This is why we have drug laws. A perp can have a dozen car stereos in the back seat, but that can be explained away - the drugs OTOH.

Because of "social justice" incongruities (aka "disparate impact") they are tossing even drug laws because there isn't equity in outcome.
