Top Story

  • Not tech news but close to home: The conservative Coalition in Australia just committed political suicide. (Sydney Morning Herald)

The bullshit lockdowns are supported by Labor voters - lefties - but opposed by a strong majority of conservatives. The Liberal Party is about to find out that their voters don't appreciate this rapid swing to fascism.

Labor voters are just fine with fascism, but aren't going to vote for the Liberal Party anyway.

I wouldn't mind these useless fucks getting the boot except that the other party is significantly worse on every measure.

But there is no way I will vote for either of our major parties again. Not that I have ever voted Labor in the first place.

  • Blockchains. Can't live with them, can't nuke 'em from orbit.

Major crisis at work today because a platform with a ten-figure market cap returns the same bland response for "transient network error, please retry" and "your wallet is empty you idiot".

24 You guys need to create an alternate party from the ground up, post haste. Supporting the lesser evil still advances the cause of evil.

That's been our mistake for too long, it's everyone's. A fascist that promises to step on your face half as hard as the other guy is still a fascist stepping on your face. What is a fascist's promise worth? Less than nothing.

Also avoid the C-word when naming your new party. The low-info types have been brainwashed into reviling conservatives. It's such a damaged brand as to be a complete non-starter.

26 If you want to be crazy and bold, I'd suggest naming a party the "Liberal Progressive Party", and define progress as progress towards greater individual freedom, respect for natural rights, and leaner more efficient governments that control less of your choice.

Stealing one of their words will enrage the leftoids and possibly even force them to rebrand to try to differentiate themselves from your hijacking.

Meanwhile, you get the benefit of years and years of brainwashing the low-info types to believe that progress is an axiomatic unalloyed good.

28 Let's put them on the defense, and make them try to explain why yet another flavor of top-down control - humanity's default mode of governance - is going to work this time, despite millenia of dismal failure only broken up by the occasional success of some bottom-up democratic republic here and there.

Let's make them explain why more control is progress, when it's quite clearly regressing towards more primitive, less successful modes of governance.

I'm sick of these fuckers controlling the narrative.

Maybe. but some of the people saying that the loudest are the ones who also claim the Repubs care about deficits and rolling back the size of the Fed Govt, and since, what, 98? that has proven to be less than truthful. They backstabbed the guy we put in office to do things and make sure those things could not be done. And now they are pretending again, with the 230 dance since they can dance to "Repeal Obamacare" anymore.

At some point, when you see the game as run is rigged your options are to either keep playing and hoping somehow things will magically break your way or refuse to play by the rules (which the donks have been doing forever). If the Washington Generals that is the Repub party wants to keep throwing the game, well we need to direct them to the dust bin of history, they can take a seat next to the Whig party.

One thing I want to do, if we can ever get sane governance again, is pass an amendment to alter the first past the post system into something that third parties more viable.

I don't want to go down the ranked choice route that Europe so loves, because that's how you get an Empress Merkel despite 2/3 of the country hating her guts.

Instead, I think we should look at post-general runoff elections, for any election where there's no clear majority. This would get rid of the perceived penalty for voting third party, since there's most likely going to be a vote of the top two candidates afterward, and make it harder for a pair of stale, collusive authoritarian cliques to hedge out all competition.

70 A proposal that somehow (mechanism up to debate) that the states should be able to declare "no confidence" in the federal govt, and force all federal office holders to a new election.dig canals.

71 It's a dream that has no chance of fruition, but imagine Garland winning his Texas suit and Abbott not complying, forcing the Feds to arrange military transport for illegals into the country. It's an image that might start to wake people up.

I just saw an intriguing idea: a top of "non confidence vote" for the federal govt. A proposal that somehow (mechanism up to debate) that the states should be able to declare "no confidence" in the federal govt, and force all federal office holders to a new election.

And anyone in a management position in any Fed agency of any kind needs to have a 10 yr limit on being in that position. Like the military, you either move up or you need to find a private sector job and see how many of those will let you try to do your own thing despite what it does to the company as a whole.

75 "My Repuke Congress rep pulled off the mask about as soon as he was sworn in, and Ron Johnson"

I really feel like there is some X factor that turns our people.

"Welcome to the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Roberts. We have a special treat for you! A rare archeological find that scholars have named 'The Egg'. Yes that's it, just lean over and look into the opening at top, wait for it..."

Something's not right. We have had SO many defections.

Sounds like someone, somewhere ran into my words and got inspired.

I've been advocating this idea for the past year or so, only slightly different.

Basically, citizens of any democratically elected nation should be able to hold a petition drive that, if successful, will launch a No Confidence vote.

If a majority votes No Confidence, the entire government is vacated, and no incumbent may run in the next election, period.

78 >> If a majority votes No Confidence, the entire government is vacated,

I like that. Vacate the entire federal govt. I'm thinking there should be more than one way to trigger this. States or the people directly, indeed. I'll have to think about this.

79 The problem is, what is the enforcement mechanism for such a provision?

82 Pixy; you all better get them out by vote quick before they figure a way to make their rule permanent. (it'll be for your own good if they do of course).

This is what happens when there is no formal rule written down that all have agreed on ARE the rules. Yes it's bad here in the USA and could get worse despite the constitution but they're having a tougher time of it than in the Commonwealths that GB left behind that have no rules about freedom of expression etc.

You just cannot trust some people but you can never know which ones they are until too late.

What has shocked me most about Aus is the willingness of the police to trample all over the human rights of the citizens. (and I've been very surprised at some stuff here also). I expected better of at least some police departments. (large cities excepted as they are more leftist and their police do not have ties to the neighborhoods they patrol)

84 this is a very good demonstration of true democracy. (which is defined as two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner).

here in the states the lefties would love to do the same. Esp. all those that got vaccinated. They think that somehow WE are the threat but as it turns out the vaccinated are the ones that are spreading the covid now and creating the more infectious mutations. But of course the Media/Gov't organs won't admit that. Although some data is slipping thru.

And some governors are standing up to the media/Gov't and this is good and helped by that piece of paper the left always disdains and mocks. The Constitution.

That page of rules and protections is the reason why people want to come here and not N.Korea or China. And those people hate that so many have that opinion of their countries.

Too bad Aus is striving for a place alongside those other dictatorship/tyrannies.
