GAINZZZ: Choose Wisely, For as the True GAINZZZ Can Bring You Extended Life, the False GAINZZZ Will Break Your Spirit

gainzzzknight.jpg
The GAINZZZ Knight

BTW: This is an open thread. I know not everyone cares about the GAINZZZ thread. Feel free to bring up whatever topics you like.

My GAINZZZ from last week experienced, like the GDP under "President" Biden, an Unexpected Downward Revision. I thought they were strong GAINZZZ, but after eating a little bit on Saturday (and probably provoking an insulin response, which then caused me to regain water), my "strong GAINZZZ" completely disappeared -- and then some.

I GAINZZZed four and a half pounds in one day. Obviously, that's gotta be water. But that means my previous week's GAINZZZ were nearly all just... dehydration.

And I've spent the week trying to re-GAINZZZ the GAINZZZ I thought I'd already GAINZZZed.

So today, I can say: I've managed to get to where I already thought I was last Friday.

Any GAINZZZer should know that day-to-day, your biggest changes in weight are just going to be water loss or water gain. Easily one or two pounds of any day's weight fluctuation will just be water.

I'm sure some of you have had that heartbreaker moment when a week's worth of exercise and careful eating results in a weight gain. It's a real spirit-killer. You already want to stop working out and dieting, and then that scale reading gives you just the right reason to do so: If it's not working anyway, why am I busting my back over this?

I've quit fasts before over this.

But it's going to happen. Daily fluctuations in water weight will be five times as high as any loss of fat and twenty times as high as any gain of muscle. So ignore those False GAINZZZ and don't lose confidence when they evaporate.

Since my GAINZZZ are super-lame, please recharge my resolve by telling me about YO' GAINZZZ.

And as always: Tell me about your READZZZ (which are just MIND GAINZZZ) and your PROJECTZZZ (which are just GAINZZZ with a measuring tape and level).

Great lecture by Nina Teicholtz about how the government essentially lied to the public for 60 years about nutrition, and told us to not eat the things we should eat, and to eat the things we definitely should not eat.

If he hasn't done something really horrible, like murder or child molestation, I'd say getting killed by the cartel is a bit strong. Maybe just hope that he decides to stay in Mexico, so as to commune with those noble Brown people and learn how much better their culture is than ours.

17 I've gained 13 pounds since last year, mostly due to my BP med, as I have been exercising. Not Broscience levels but some.

FML.

I have also had shotgun GAINZ, I'm very happy with my VR-60 and Stevens 320, especially the latter.

Ammo GAINZ also, just added to the pile now, as prices have dropped a bit and if mask mandates fuck us again, I want to have more range food.

For the first time in 4 months, I managed to lose weight 2 weeks in a row on my OMAD keto diet with working out! Having the same demoralizing yo-yos as you, Ace.

Turning protein directly into blood glucose. If you are super low carb and eat excess protein, it can happen.

BOOKZZZ: a true crime novel called Bitter Blood. It's not bad, but the author goes wayyy too far into the family history of these people. Like I really don't need to know what year great-grandma met great-grandpa and how many kids they had. It's not relevant to the story at all.

And resistance work for tone and injury prevention. If f***ing hockey would resume, that would be one intense workout added. Want to get back on the road bike but sort of inertially trapped in doing only workouts that she can do too.

On the pull days I have to do hammer curls because my elbow hurts a bit doing regular curls. Gotta figure that out.

Headed to visit family in the beginning of the month, so I'll have a week off with no weights. Then I'll come back tan, rested, and ready for moar gainnzz.

Author spends half the time retelling the Guadalcanal campaign (it's OK, he does a decent job, and I suppose many will be seeing it for first time), and his recounting of minute aviation details gets annoying (he's a former fighter pilot, so), even for a geek.

P-38s were used because only they had the range (with two drop-tanks) to do the job from Guadalcanal.

85 || Pavel Tsatouline is a good resource.

I like Pavel, but I didn't quite get the gist of his stretching book. It seemed like he was saying it was neurological (or "all in the mind", even) and therefore a good strategy was to threaten to kill someone if he couldn't touch his toes.

I may have gotten that wrong, of course.

89 Well, as I told you all earlier in the week, my GAINNNZZ is that I have finished an official first draft of my new Theda Bara novel! I still need to type things up and invent a perfect tag line, so that's my PLANNZZ for the next few weeks. And then, I'll be sending it out to a few people for comment and feedback.

I'm actually angry at myself, though, because it's been over 20 years since my first book, The Director's Cut, and it frustrates me to think of all the wasted time I spent tossing draft after draft and going through all kinds of plots before settling on this one. I could have had half a dozen books out by now had I been more on the damned ball.

Anyway, after I get comments back, then I'll be giving the thing a final polish and deciding whether to go the Amazon (I know) route, or roll the dice and try to send it to a publisher? I thought I had a publishing connection, but it fell through. I'd be interested to hear from any Morons who've gone the traditional route; do you think I should? What kind of market can there be for a silent film mystery by an unknown writer?

yes. Or, putting it more accurately: Sugar was sold, including by the government, as a fairly harmless (if not terrific) thing to add to food if it helped you keep away from Demon Fat.

So little kids were being fed huge amounts of sugar in their cereal every morning but this got the "Heart Healthy" seal of approval from the American Heart Association because dessert-for-breakfast was low fat.

Guess it's a good thing going back to work isn't likely to happen anytime soon (oh noes delta variant!!!!). But on the bright side, I'm doing well on the Total Gym and have managed to bring nearly every workout, even the brutal shoulder ones, up a level.

I've been trying to really hit my backlog of unread books, and also catalog them as I read them. That's going fairly well. Some of these books have been sitting around waiting for me to read them for 10 years, so it's nice to finally knock that out.

I am also very close to being halfway done with my current cross stitch project. (And about to start a new one...whoops)

As for any other projects, I need my house to get and stay clean in order to do those. Might have to take off work to make that happen. My husband unfortunately does not care if the house is a mess, so even though I'm the one working full-time, I'm also the one who has to clean. Pisses me off to no end. This place would be fucking spotless if our positions were reversed.

Same with eating healthy. If I take fish oil or a vitamin, I force myself to eat healthy. When I lapse on the vitamins I tend to nibble on whatever crap. 163 Actually the most difficult thing about rollerblading, if it's a workout as it is for me, is finding a place to do it, and balancing the speed/difficulty/mental torture elements. To me it's just free ice time, a skating workout.

Unlike walking running biking carz etc, the surface matters. Crappy surface = can't work too hard/always at risk of falling. Good surface preferred, but that brings in the speed/difficulty trade-off. Too fast = dangerous and stupid, plus not much of a workout.

Workaround is larger wheels/better bearings for crappy surfaces, but that would mean too much speed/too little effort. So I stick with smaller wheels mediocre bearings, problem is favorite location is deteriorating, as the blacktop breaks down. One alternative is the long paved bike trail that starts at the SEAL base in Coronado and goes down towards the border, windy, good workout. Maybe she could bike, I could skate, that might work.

__________

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game

Then the Left, the government and corporations all got in bed together - and the rest is unfortunately very predictable.

243 5'-9" 217lbs. 53 years old and still a member of the 300/400/500 club. Haven't done it in 3 years but since I've been beating up my lats and triceps I took a stab at it. 315x5 reps. Lats improved the push off the bottom and tri's on the lockout. Wasn't trying for 5 reps but at 3 I had some left and went for it. Squat was 405 for one rep that wasn't bad but I hate squatting with a bar and stick to machines (Hammer). My deadlift(regular) was 500 even for one rep. My max is 585lbs but last time I did it I was sore for two weeks. Not cool. Wasn't bad though, just grabbed the bar, put pressure til I heard the wheels do their settle and click on the top of the bar and ripped it. My hams and ass are still barking at me (I did this Tuesday) but I walked away without an injury. Swore I'd never do this again because to me its pointless to max out not worth an injury. Curiosity got the better of me after all the lat and tri work I've been doing and what better measurement than to throw 6 wheels on and test your flat bench. Said screw it and went for the other two. Again, I swear I will never try this again.

Speaking of GAINZZZ, I haven't been paying attention to the financial shit of late, 'cause of this 'Ronavax crap, but we just had our first trillion dollar reverse repo at the Fed.

In a nutshell. Fed prints a fucking shit ton of money and gives it to banks. Banks have so much fucking money they don't know what to do with, so they have to park it back at the Fed via the Reverse Repo Facility.

If you think that's crazy, it is. But that's where we are in monetary policy now, Crazy Town.

I think that the point is we just found out that the covid test everyone was using has been disallowed because it doesn't distinguish between regular flu and covid, and then suddenly, we're being told there's an identifiable covid "variant."

How do they know? Not to mention it's summertime, and the flu disappears in summer. (*things we used to know before 2020*)

336 I'm doing 15-20 miles, five days a week on my bike. I've got over 340 miles this July. But I can't do a keto diet while riding. Cannot do it. I bonk, badly. So I'm keeping around 2,000 calories a day, which with the mileage on the bike gives me a daily calorie deficit of over 1,000.

The weight loss isn't as fast as keto, but you don't pass out in the middle of Prospect Park.

Yeah, my money's on it being just the regular stuff with a thick coat of marketing hype. 365 Apparently the Delta variant is so miniscule in its health issues to the population that it requires the full on effort of everyone Dem who ever got elected and every lefty DNC press person at ABC CBS NBC and CNN to cheerlead for it.

This is going to be the undoing of the Dem Party as they crawl further and further out on a limb the thickness of a dime. But they can't stop now, they've thrown all their cards in on using lockdowns to steal elections so no matter how idiotic and immature they look selling "death" from the common cold, they're going to have to go all in.

I too take iodine. Actually I just eat a gram or half of konbu each day (japanese seaweed) since salt is not iodized in Japan. I f--ing hate seaweed, so if I eat out I am OK, but when I eat stuff cooked at home I guess I have a problem. So now I have to eat that shit.

A few times over past couple years I would get very tired and my throat would get sore and swollen, but on the outside. That's how I figured it out.

Salty snacks are my downfall, I had to cut them out entirely. I walk 8K steps daily & hit the gym 3x a week. I try to watch where I use my calories (goodbye grilled cheese sandwiches!) and try not to eat after 7 or 8.

I keep reminding myself its a marathon, not a sprint and that I'm a 66 year old woman with hypothyroidism, and it aint easy.

I did try on a dress and it didn't cut off the circulation in my thighs this morning so I guess that's the GAINZZ. Hoping to hit a benchmark in August
