Today they are Racist, Fascist and Homophobe, among a seemingly endless list of others. While the meanings have become more sophisticated, the reality is the same; the person making the assertion has run out of ideas and logic and is resorting to the infantile.

Where once arguments were made and decided on merits, today insulting names and derogatory labels are used instead, and attacking entire swaths of the population has become a favorite tactic of the left.
++++ More than that, the use of derogatory statements - or if we use Latin, the original language of vicious White Supremacy, ad hominem - was rightly a lose-by-default choice. If you do it, it means you don't have a leg to stand on - argumentatively, rhetorically or logically. It is no longer a disqualifier. Far worse, it is now the norm and it is accepted by everyone in both the inner *and* outer parties (that is, the true ruling class and their orbiters in academia, industry, etc.) as standard operating procedure. In the 80's, we did a lot to overcome racism and segregation. Sure, a lot of towns had blacks living on 'the other side of the tracks,' but we met in the middle, played ball or whatever, and got past the bullshit. We didn't care about skin color or monetary worth. We cared about 'can we come together as a team and beat those assholes over there.'
We continued that into the 90's when we went to college or started our adult lives. We still gathered at the rec or park and played ball. Together. As friends and teammates. They've ruined ALL of that. Every. Single. Bit. They've turned everyone against everyone else. The left sucks. They destroy. They're a parasite. And they have no end game. Once they've destroyed, they look for more to destroy. What happens when they've destroyed everything? Posted by: Sponge - Saying Ashli Babbitt at July 22, 2021 10:15 AM (Zz0t1) 52

The problem with ignoring this stuff is that it's left out there in the mind of the public, usually aided and amplified by the media. There is another way that does not involve ignoring the offender, denying the accusation (because now you're on the defensive) or worse, getting mad and sputtering in rage, which just makes you look stupid. I'm a big fan of haughty derision and mockery, but admittedly that's a lot harder to pull off than the other options.

Idiots make infantile assertions, but they can't always be ignored. Family is one place where the teachers or media cause hard to ignore friction. But also a boss, or a politician making decisions for us .. and now BigCorp is given the power to cancel our speech/accounts -- based on (legalized?) assertions of White Privilege and MAGA affiliation.
It should be the courts that take down this criminal use of race or political/religious as a means of "cancellation". But Soros AGs stand up for such abuse of power, prosecuting Kyle Rittenhouse, but releasing the real domestic terrorists (because they are FBI/CIA's own brown shirts?). Agreed, under normal circumstances. The Left's current language -- including MSM and political leaders (especially political leaders) -- has gotten so dehumanizing that it's shades of Rawanda. There, the enemies were called "cockroaches," here non-progressives are called "Maggots" (spelled MAGAts) and worse. Same goes for the dehumanization of whites. By raising so far above all other words they have given it more power and as such they have been the ones that have imbued it with the power to hurt and anger. No one else did it but the left and the Blacks at the coercion of the left or who are doing so for their own gain. If all words are equal then none of them can hurt you. Not buying that for a.minute. The plan was real, and it failed. The history of war is littered with very real plans that failed. Every power that ever lost a war had several plans. After losing, how many people just decided to deny that there was ever a plan in the first place? That would be an incredibly disingenuous claim. imo, the left are tools of the Oligarch Elite (DeepState, DavosCrowd, whatever). All their most divisive characters (Obama, Abrams, TheSquad) have been propped up in power as a weapon, using Critical Theory as the base of Divide and Conquer destruction of all cohesive American units (family, church, schools, etc.). Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks aka Hangdog Barkston at July 22, 2021 10:17 AM (d9FiS) This is true, but I think that even this goes both ways. First, while I can't control what other people may call me, I can control my response - which is Weasel's point. The other part of this is that I don't need to insult anyone by a disparaging term. I've found that its use actually degrades me a little, by making the other person less than human in my eyes. If I can start by denigrating them verbally, what else could I do from there? My bigger point, I suppose, is that it bothers me that there are insults that are acceptable, even in this Woke period - ones like 'wh**e tr**h' or 'r*dn**k', for instance. I would never, ever call anyone that, even in jest. I'm really not trying to be holier than thou, here, but I've even worked on stopping swearing as well, for the same reason. Asking questions is always a good way to put the offender on the defensive. It's particularly so when the offender has clearly done zero thinking about the issue. I'm fond of "Please define racism for me so we're all on the same page". That's enough to trip up most of these clowns. If they respond with something about attributing traits, usually negative ones, to a particular race, one can that ask "oh, you mean like saying white people are inherently racist?". ========= No, Villeneuve is signed for a second film, if it happens. It's just that Warner Bros. didn't greenlight both films at the same time, predicating the production of the second on the success of the first. I think it's one reason he got really mad and wrote that article for Variety about how much he disliked WB's move to do day and date releases through 2021 with all their movies on HBO Max. We already got one movie that tried to squeeze everything into 2 hours and 17 minutes, and it's barely what one could call a movie in the end. It's also unclear at this point where the movie ends. It pretty obviously doesn't end with the attack on Arrakeen, there's too much in the trailers from what happens afterwards. I have a feeling that it ends with the beginning of the Paul led rebellion. in the Civil War, most plans failed in the end. Sure there were great tactics and strategems. But there were amazing blunders on almost every battlefield. From a strategic standpoint a commander wanted to destroy his enemy and made a plan to do that in the beginning. But that almost never happened, and I am talking 90 percent of the time.

She calls me an asshole. An airport cop was nearby and I waved him over. I told him that this woman has accused me of killing children, a violation of both the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and the Geneva Convention. They did it because it was the only way to control large bodies of men without radio or other means. It still amazes me today that people think the leaders in the Civil War were "stupid" or didn't understand what a rifle musket could do. These guys were not going to send out squads using fire and maneuver. They did change their tactics during the Civil War. For one, they sped up marches in order to reduce the time an attacker would be vulnerable. They also did use more spread out units from Vedettes, to skirmishers, etc. But when it came time for fighting, real fighting, they used linear tactics. It was the best way to put the most fire on the enemy at a given point. Posted by: Quint at July 22, 2021 11:02 AM (F2/Ok) 285

We have three space companies that are fighting tooth and nail to survive against government interference, to the point that Musk is taking to the high seas for launches. We can't put up a highway overpass in under two years. We can't build pipelines or dams at all. Power plants are a tall order. Much of what we achieved in the past - again, be in practical or not - cannot be done *at all* anymore. Not because we are technically incapable, but because the accumulated weight of red tape and lobbying groups prevent it. It just cannot be done anymore. One thing I loved about WoT was how Jordan was a student of history, so almost all his great generals in the books were stand ins for great generals in history. Bryne was a stand in for RE Lee. That one guy from the west was Napoleon. I bet that will get lost.

monuments have been falling for years now. The reality is most people don't care about them in the end. There was a time they mattered even though they were still in the background. A Southerner fighting in Vietnam or Desert Storm might have a monument to a Confederate in his town, but that was not a big thing to him.
In the End monuments keep falling because people don't care. In the end that has to be the reason. There was a time not long ago when the Civil War was still a big thing in this country, certainly it was considered the most important even in American History by main stream historians. I honestly think people are moving past that. I am not sure if that is a good thing for many reasons. We will lucky to have battlefields like Gettysburg to learn about history. But the reality is Civil War monuments are three or four years ago, now any monument is fair game. Posted by: Quint at July 22, 2021 11:12 AM (F2/Ok) 318

Much of what we achieved in the past - again, be in practical or not - cannot be done *at all* anymore. Not because we are technically incapable, but because the accumulated weight of red tape and lobbying groups prevent it. It just cannot be done anymore.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at July 22, 2021 11:04 AM (3p5uk) ... I agree that we are killing ourselves with regulation, and I see that your point was more about the obstacles to progress for large scale projects than about creating cultural icons per se. I also think that what we create tends to be an encapsulation of our cultural values at a moment in time; a culture that wants to be independent and free will tend to create, say, infrastructure and regulation that support energy independence (as essential to that goal). So the fact that we don't do that is indeed sad as it reflects a loss, culturally. Posted by: TexasDan at July 22, 2021 11:12 AM (yL25O) 322

my guess is few to no Confederate monuments were put up in the last 30 or even 40 years. The historical regions I know have put up monuments to be inclusive, to count those who were not counted before. I can't recall a Confederate monument that has gone up in recent decades for any purpose. I am not saying it hasn't happened, but it would be a very rare thing. If anything, historians have been trying to show all aspects, and all afflicted.
Today we are down to just giving up. i know historians i once respected who have gone mute. I think the times are scary because we don't know where this will end. At one point it was Confederate, then it was Yankees, then Lewis and Clark. Then it was presidents, and now it is Canadians. If it keeps going this way, there may be no monuments from the times prior to Apple. Posted by: Quint at July 22, 2021 11:18 AM (F2/Ok) 352

How you choose to respond is of course entirely up to you. Painting with a broad brush is a tacit admission by the left of the weakness of their position, and reacting to such an insult serves only to give it credibility. The surest way to counter someone making such an assertion is not to engage them at all. Idiots make infantile assertions, and arguing the point levels the field.
Now that this thread is about to get willowed, here's my response to that. It's all well and good to ignore it, but corporate America will not. I never fully understood it, but I did understand it was an insult. Frankly, an insult that also confuses the insultee is a work of art.

The Thomas Covenant books are The Lord of The Rings thrown in a blender with whiskey, cigars and rape.

My great great grandfather was part of the underground railroad. Many times we were taken to see where they hid runaway slaves after they came out of the Ohio river. So all those white people were racists? And I am a descendent of all those racists who risked their lives to help people to freedom. I don't think so.

What's wonderful is that today, thanks to the science of modern tech, I can bully, harass, and name call someone into suicide from a distance. I can also get them kicked off of social media or demonetized on lucrative platforms. My "name calling" has more real world impact than your vote!
My dad says back in the good old days I'd have to back up my accusations with my fists or my face. Good old days? These are the good times, there's no risk and effort for me to fuck up your shit. "The surest way to counter someone making such an assertion is not to engage them at all. Idiots make infantile assertions, and arguing the point levels the field."
Wrong. Ask GWB how that worked out for him. The donks and their media arm savaged him relentlessly, and all he ever did was turn the other cheek. By the time they were finished, his approval ratings were down in the 30s, remember? If people are always accusing you of vile acts and motivations, and you just sit there, after a while too many people start thinking, "He won't defend himself; so it must be true." I'm usually loath to cite a donk for anything useful, but Barry-O had a much better approach: "Punch back twice as hard." Posted by: Taylor Lake at July 22, 2021 12:33 PM (HdZrl) 413
