  • It's not censorship if it's a private company, say the communists, who have all somehow simultaneously seized upon a new talking point.

Yes, it's Gleen Grennwald, and I haven't forgotten his history. But I have to give him credit for announcing that the emperor's pants are on fire when the emperor's pants are, in fact, on fire.

At this point every country in the world should either be banning American Big Tech, shaking them down for cash, or both. Australia has so far gone for the shakedown route. I'd prefer an outright ban, but at least it's something.

There is much that infuriates me about the positions of Glenn Greenwald. However, they are but a trifle in the current climate.

So, the cardinality of the reals is now either Aleph-1 or Aleph-2.

Godel thought it was Aleph-2. Cantor thought it Alpeh-1.

So, if I understand it, we have proof it is either one or the other, can't be higher.

See Cantor's hierarchy of infinities, which he dubbed the Alephs, the Hebrew "A". The infinity of integers is trivially Aleph-0. However, the infinity of the real line, the "continuum" is greater. The real numbers cannot be put into 1 to 1 correspondence with the real numbers.

The integers are thus "countably infinite". The reals are "incountably infinite".

All the fuss is over what is the size of the infinity of the reals. The continuum hypothesis holds that the infinity of the reals is Aleph-1, the next larger infinity about Aleph-0.

But that can't be proven. This latest results says, that it is either Aleph-1 or Aleph-2. Godel thought it was Aleph-2. But this latest result proves it can be no higher than that.

There are an infinity of infinites, a countably infinite progression of infinites, or Alephs in Cantor's lingo.

The greatest is Aleph-omega, or the Infinity of Infinities, denoted by capital Omega.

Capital Omega is un-nameable and unknowable. Any possible property that can be described in finite terms is possessed by a lesser infinity.

Aleph-omega is .... God.

23 21 At a certain level Math becomes religion. How can a sequence of natural integers that increments by one decimal place each time (2,32,432,5432,65432,etc) ever be finite?

It's not. This is a bit esoteric, but mathematicians have known for over a century that not all infinities are the same size. What's being argued here is the size of the infinity of the real numbers. It's infinite, yes, but how big an infinity?

The absolute infinite can only be described in a self-reference, "I am who I am". Unnameable, unknowable. Only "I am who I am" can understand "I am who I am".

Ergo, a spark of "I am who I am" is in all of us. Made in the image of God.

The fact that you can conceive of the unnameable and unknowable is proof that you are part of the same.

Infinities don't work like that. Anything you do like that is the same size as the infinity of the integers, Aleph-0, the countable infinite.

(0*10), (1 * 10), (2 * 10), (3 * 10) ... (n*10).

You have placed the multiples of 10 into one to one correspondence with the set of integers. For even n, there is a 10n.

Infinite sets don't work like finite sets. They blow your mind.

But you'll find you can't put the set of real numbers into one to one correspondence with the set of integers like that.

How about the set of points in a plane? 2D space. Or 3D space. Or anything, n-D space.

All of those can be placed in one-to-one correspondence with the real numbers. The set of points in infinite dimensional space is equal to the set of points on the real line.

And all of these are greater than the countably infinite set of integers.

Now, how to you get bigger. I think, think you mind you if I remember, that if you have an incountably infinite number of dimensions, the points in that space are greater.

90 >> Thanks!

The "first" infinity, that of the integers is, in Cantor's nomenclature Aleph-0. Now, the cardinality, the size of infinity of the real line is greater. And that is equal to 2^(Aleph-0). That is two to the power of Aleph-0.

The Continuum Hypothesis asserts that Aleph-1 - 2^(Aleph-0). Stated another way, there is no (infinite) set whose cardinality is between Aleph-0 and Aleph-1.

That was the 1st of Hilberts 23 problems to perfect mathematics (per Godel, we know that is impossible, to perfect mathematics), that is the Continuum Hypothesis (CH) is true.

Godel didn't believe CH, he thought that the cardinality of the real line was the next higher infinity, Aleph-2. Others came along, and had various reasoning the cardinality of the real line could be even higher, some arbitrary high Aleph, Aleph-n.

The latest proofs limits it to 1 or 2, the real line is either Aleph-1 or Aleph-2. No higher. Cantor though it Aleph-1, Godel though Aleph-2. So, one of the two is right, but no other.

As said at 21 - and Jean, I will be stealing that line, thank you very much - at a certain point math becomes religion. So, of course, a few that are steeped in the dogma rushed to defend their faith - by reciting the litany. All about certainties regarding infinite sets of numbers which, of course, can't ever be written out and therefore fully analyzed. Or proven. Only accepted on faith. Its just theory, recited as fact. How can you ever prove a theory ?

It's an NCO thing. ------------------------------- The military is always like this when there is no real war mission. Theoretically, we have been at war for the past 20 years, but they are clearly not the same as our more historical "traditional" wars. This is not to belittle the incredible sacrafices familes have made (which is exactly the same). But the country has not fought a war with the entire country on war footing since WW2. The officer corp was rotten at the cusp of the Civil War and WW2 and had to be cleaned out to get actual military commanders in there and not officers just occupying positions during relative peacetime. Our officer corp sucks and when the next real war breaks out, it will have to be gutted.

164 The officer corp was rotten at the cusp of the Civil War and WW2 and had to be cleaned out to get actual military commanders in there and not officers just occupying positions during relative peacetime. Our officer corp sucks and when the next real war breaks out, it will have to be gutted.

Same thing happened to Great Britain during long periods of peace, and most other countries historically. (except the Prussians, probably because they were notoriously vicious, peace or war) It all turns into a parade ground army which is all for show and all about internal politics. You can go all the way back to Alexander - the real reason he was able to roll over Persia so easily is that Persia had a huge army, but it had not seen any serious conflict in over a century and had no idea what to do when one came to them.

167 General Milley, evidently, is a garbage person.

Imagine the ass he had to kiss.
