But first: the kids. Over the course of the pandemic, 49,000 Americans under the age of 18 have died of all causes, according to the CDC. Only 331 of those deaths have been from COVID -- less than half as many as have died of pneumonia. In 2019, more than 2,000 American kids and teenagers died in car crashes; each year about a thousand die from drowning. More American children die in an average year from RSV -- another respiratory ailment, whose prevalence is now growing because 18 months of quarantine have deprived young children of immune exposure -- than died in either of the last two years from COVID-19.
___ So looking at the numbers, if kids are kept home they won't die in car crashes, drowning and it'll also keep them from getting pneumonia or other aliments now that their immune system is weaker. If it saves 1 life! Posted by: NEA at July 12, 2021 11:21 AM (Ojki1) 39

At my grandkids' school last year, if a child was exposed to Covid, his/her entire class went to virtual learning for ten days before resuming in-person learning (with masks). This fall, only the child himself will sit out for one week. Masks are optional for all children. Recess and lunchroom per usual (not isolated in classrooms), without masks.

A recent study shows indeed, kids are harmed by masks ... they retain enough exhaled air in the mask that their smaller lungs affected. The higher suicide rate due to lockdowns and forced isolation is another factor. ... The biggest damage is to The West in general, where Emergency Powers have advanced the totalitarian state dreams, and killed small business (the more liberty minded class). To add my bit: the entire scare was manufactured by teachers to protect them, not children, and to let them stay home like white collar workers were.
That was obvious from the beginning. And truthfully when the issue was a couple weeks home, or even the rest of the school year, I was willing to play along. Kids pass on crud they pick up from school to others in the house, and it's not wholly unreasonable to say, "lets take a precautionary step and use the time to make a plan for the fall." The problem was that they didn't make a plan. They fucked around and whipped up hysteria over the Kung Flu until it was impossible to convince teachers to go back into the classroom, and scared many parents as well. The real problem with kids is it's harder to bullshit their data. Less likely to be some handy comorbidities just sitting there alongside a positive test of covid with healthier young people.
But if anyone with a shred of integrity looked into the adult numbers under 50, and filter out the obvious cause of death, that would also be shown to be complete bullshit. Fauci was on all the morning talk shows yesterday, saying that it was a shame that Republicans aren't taking the vaccine due to recent 'politicization'.
This entire pandemic response was completely politicized. It was politicized when the teachers union wrote the kids' masking guidelines for the CDC. It was politicized when it was ok for BLM to burn, loot and murder en masse in major cities across the USA, but a Trump rally in Tulsa was a super-spreader event that was doubleplusungood. It was politicized when people couldn't attend a family funeral service, but DC pols gathered en masse (and sans mask) for John Lewis' GA funeral service, and got a special exemption from the DC mayor to re-enter DC without quarantining. Etc, etc, etc. NY Mag is really trying to let the rubes down easy. Tell everyone the bad news after the school year just ended, and hope that the anger will subside before the kiddos go back for their indoctrination sessions in the fall. My kids started school last August and went through the entire school year without interruption. That's the advantage of living in a red state AND a red area within a red state. There was one district in the entire state that shut down in any way after the new school year started -- you guessed it, the largest city in the state, the one solitary heavily populated blue area. The state legislature put the screws to them and told them their funding would be cut without butts in seats. All of sudden Covid just wasn't as important at that point to the teachers in that district.

Almost all kids I see between 8-14 are wearing masks
Was just at a big outdoor, crowded event in Connecticut. All ages, maybe 2000 people, parents and kids. Maybe 50 masks and nobody seemed afraid of anybody. I didn't see anyone who actually kept a mask on the whole time- it was just too hot. Posted by: t-bird at July 12, 2021 11:30 AM (3fR4G) 98
"Yet for a year and a half we have been largely unwilling to fully believe it."
Anyone with a clue, who was following the data, and gleaning things from the many independent analysts (not all epidemiologists or even medical types), "believed" it from about May of 2020. "But the kids are not at risk themselves, and never were." Something documented by independent analysts from very very early on. "Now, thanks to vaccines, the vast majority of their parents and grandparents aren't any longer, either." The "vast majority" of adults of all ages were not at risk before vaccines, and this was also known pretty quickly. Duh. With an IFR comparable to a bad flu season for healthy older adults, and much less for younger healthy adults, only a small segment of the population was at elevated risk. This was also evident quite quickly. And this stupidity, illiteracy, collapsed institutions, ignorance, submission to illegitimate "expertise" now define the US, ain't going away. A guy who ran a liquor store where I grew up was a real... character. I'm putting that politely. He was actually a grade-A whackjob. Our local Subway didn't carry American cheese. That triggered ol' Johnny. He had a reverse-woke meltdown on this poor kid, berating him about how "he didn't go to Korea just so he could home for a sandwich at some unpatriotic restaurant with no American cheese." And on and on. He was so incensed that he wrote a freakin' *letter to the editor* about those bastards down at that Subway. The next time I went there, they had flag pins on their lapels, and a sign proclaiming that they proudly now served American cheese. The best part? Posted by: Colorado Alex in Exile at July 12, 2021 11:34 AM (jOcSX) Strenuously disagree with this. For example, if you're an aspiring hockey player hoping to get into the NHL, you have a very small window to show your stuff in college and get drafted, and to do that you're training your whole life. If, per Malcolm Gladwell, simply being born in the right month in twelve gives you an advantage in that cohort, missing a year of play derails a whole class of hockey players. You miss an Olympic trial due to this nonsense - same thing. Sure, there's life beyond sports, but the lessons learned while these people are young have significance at the time they're playing. It's a travesty that they have to deal with this, and a tragedy that someone takes their life over it. Posted by: Darrell Harris at July 12, 2021 11:41 AM (2fKwc) 165

Strenuously disagree with this. You miss an Olympic trial due to this nonsense - same thing.
thank you for posting this Darrell! so a lot of 2021s had to reclassify (meaning, repeat their senior years) in order to have slim hope of possibly playing college. that reality (that their friends are heading to college and they're going to 13th grade basically) is hitting now. then there are the ones who just said EFF IT and are hoping to walk on or giving up. the NCAA is allowing graduated athletes to return to play. at least next year and I think after that as well. so even if you're lucky enough that you were recruited as a 2021, you're going to struggle to make a team with the older, more experienced Post-Seniors all back (and they almost ALL are returning to make up the lost season). Certainly. But as a parent of a teen it was a challenge because throughout 2020 they were always witing for the next update, the next decision. It was: are they shutting down? opening up now? OK, how about now? No OK now? OK, what are the rules when you open? Oh, you;re changing the rules? OK, latest update, oh, now closing again? OK, what summer things are available, oh, nothing? Can't go to the freakin beach or workout, really? OK, decide if you're open in September? Decide yet? Oh, changed your mind, now thinking October? OK, new rules? Oh, closing again in early November? Oh, now you don't want them back after Thanksgiving, just home through Christmas? OK, sports cancelled, teammates tested positive w/no sympOh, breakout on campus and sending kids home AGAIN? New rules AGAIN? Oh, ending the school year early? And on and on. It's been the waiting and the changing their minds, changing the rules, having to jump through hoops and then they pull back. The shit I used to do unsupervised as a child - and an only child at that - still kind of blows my mind. Of course, these days I'd be snatched off the street when I was miles away from home, but there's got to be a happy medium. And now we've got a generation of kids growing up who haven't seen a face for over a year, and in many cases another peer in the same room. A year and a half is a long, long time for a child. As soon as we recognized that kids were not getting seriously ill, they started the "silent spreader" fear. When the silent spreader was debunked by actual science, they ignored that part and also spread the "MIST-C" deadly complication which looked like regular Kawasaki disease, but definitely wasn't Kawasaki because Covid and shut up, lock down harder.
Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at July 12, 2021 11:53 AM (gpKIi) ++++ That "silent superspreader" thing was laughable on its face the moment they published the report. I'm not a scientist and barely even an amateur armchair statistician (though I am good with data), and it was blindingly obvious from the word "go" on that one. It was laughably uncontrolled and they had an outrageously broad definition of "child" and a tiny sample and then they fudged the results anyway. That particular study is what finally made me stop and go, "hmmm. They're all dissembling liars, to the last man. I should just start disregarding everything that anyone even tangentially related to the establishment says." Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at July 12, 2021 11:55 AM (3p5uk) 250

It is a statement that your imagined solution to your problem is correct no matter how much it negatively affects all those around you. Creating a child is also ultimately self centered. With covid vax the adverse events are much broader in scope and therefore harder to trace directly to the vaccine itself. (article in Summer 2021 Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons). Posted by: Ziba at July 12, 2021 12:07 PM (S1hrL) 329

Its not just athletes - top tier academic kids are competing against last year's crop as well for a very limited number of seats in elite math and engineering programs. There are only so many decent professors at that level. Their window isnt as tight as athletes - but their entire lives have been built around getting into these programs.
omg Jean yes on this. the 2021s had this insanely competitive normal admissions process. Could tell you many stories. add the lack of testing dates available in Cursed Blue States and it was a travesty (and is). WE stayed in virtually vacant motels in Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and New Hampshire. We hit every state north of Virginia with the exception of Rhode Island and Delaware. I didn't wear a mast for more than five minutes total the whole trip. A lot of silly inconveniences and one very scary semi driver with NY plates in Worcester, Mass seems to have tried to run us off the road, but probably because he was a born asshole, but maybe the Texas plates. The point was, that we could go where we wanted to, no matter what idiotic bullshit most of the states up their talked up. We managed to have a great trip, even if every bathroom in the entire state Massachusetts was closed.

Most of this LGBTQ and tranny bullshit is because kids are not given coping mechanisms. They don't know how to lose, how to be told you tried, but it wasn't good enough. They are diagnosed with PTSD and bipolar, and told it is not their fault.

397 If you're a good parent, then the selflessness of raising the kid right and sacrificing for them is obvious. (I'd even say it's mandatory). But good parent or not, the act itself of creating another human being in your own image is still selfish, no matter what you do afterwards. I'm not saying it's bad or evil or yucky... it's just selfish.
Posted by: Warai-otoko at July 12, 2021 12:18 PM (/EuRN) Except it's very obviously species-centered and not self-centered. I only got thinking about this "breeding is selfish" as a result of thinking about suicide being selfish (ages ago, not just now). The two things are tied together. You are forced to exist whether you like it or not, and the only way out is completely untenable in a moral sense. Humanity as a species is forced to exist by our Creator... who has a perfect right to demand our existence. But a human parent only has a sort of "imperfect right" to demand another person to exist.... if they do, they damn well better put the work in to help the kid grow up well.
So "being fruitful and multiplying" within the framework of the Faith, in effect cooperating with the big-C Creator, it makes the whole enterprise *not* selfish after all, but otherwise. .. it is. Posted by: Warai-otoko at July 12, 2021 12:31 PM (/EuRN) 459

And all the wooden boat festivals around here are shut down for another year. I have to force myself to go back to living my life like I used to. Everyone knows Age is Critical. Over 70 is much more likely to die, and under 50 it is as bad as the annual flu. What about Diabetes? Lots of information was sent out early, now Nothing. Is it still a risk? Ditto Weight, Asthma, High Blood Pressure? How High? Cancer, Smoking? Something else? What about Vitamins?
