The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

THE NEW SUBVERSIVES

What was the message, the underlying narrative, if you will, of the coordinated social media campaign to stamp out certain dissenting (unapproved) opinions?

It is this:

--You shouldn't discuss certain things
--You shouldn't say certain things
--You shouldn't write certain things
--You shouldn't think certain things
--You shouldn't believe certain things

In other words, 2020 injected (re-introduced?) direct and explicit censorship into the mainstream.

Democrats 2020: "Make censorship great again!"

(There are two definitions of censorship, a narrow one and a broad one. The narrow one is when you have to take your book or film or whatever to a government agency prior to publication in order to get it approved. Obviously, this is not that. But there is a more broad, fuzzier definition, one that most people commonly use, which is any restriction on free expression of certain political ideas. That's what I'm talking about here.)

For all of the caterwauling the left does about "censorship", I've never heard any of them actually getting censored. Not since the 50s "McCarthy scare" (which scarcely anyone now living remembers), was their any "censorship" of the left. And maybe not so much even then, because many commie screenwriters simply submitted their scripts under pseudonyms and went on working.

But these days, all the censorship the left has been shrieking about is coming down not on them, but on the right. It's kind of spooky weird seeing certain Twitter accounts and YouTube channels suddenly disappear, with no reasons given from YouTube and Twitter other than the accounts "violated community guidelines."

That's why listening to a Trump speech makes me feel all #Resistance-y and stuff. Trump says out loud the stuff that the social media oligarchs do not want spread on their platforms. And it all may be encapsulated in two simple words:

meme 20210709 00.jpg

So this guy got thrown out of Fenway Park for this sign, and then I think another, and then every MLB park pre-emptively banned him. And before the "muH pRIvaTe CorpoRatIoNS!" crowd pipes up, let me ask, can you imagine that much of a panicked reaction from MLB if he had hung out a BLM flag? Or an Antifa flag?

The side effect to the official censorship is the creation of a market for Things That Shouldn't Be Said.

I think most of us on this blog are old enough to remember when #Resistance was cool. Also, most of us on this blog are old enough to remember when #Dissent was patriotic.

Times have sure changed:

meme 20210709 00b.jpg

Old & Busted: Anti-authoritarianism
The New Hotness: Respec' Maah Authoritah!

And to answer his rhetorical question "Who talk like this about a public official?", I would point out to him CNN, MSNBC, CBS, etc. Apparently Gen. McCaffrey has been fast asleep for the past 4 years.

Wednesday Who Dis: A few years ago, the CW network decided to do a "dark and gritty" adaption of the characters in the old 'Archie' comic books (the Archiverse?). The result was Riverdale and it has been running since 2017. I watched one or two episodes, but it was not to my taste. Archie Andrews, the main character, is played by Kiwi actor K J Apa and Veronica Lodge is played by Camila Mendes, an actress of Brazilian descent, who actually had to dye her hair darker to get the look the show's directors wanted.

18 We're not used to seeing Julie Andrews with long hair!

We all know she was the original Liza Doolittle in My Fair Lady on B'way, and got replaced with Audrey Hepburn for the film.

Garner was a male model in clothing catalogs before moving into acting. He was in the original stage play of The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial with Lloyd Nolan as Queeg and Henry Fonda as the defense attorney. I have a play-movie tie-in edition of the Wouk novel with a black-and-white shot of a scene in the play, and Garner is recognizable.

73 Garner of course (like Julie) could do drama as well as comedy. He had a neat ability to make the American public like him no matter what he played. Maverick, for instance, premiered when there were 1,247,000 Westerns on TV, and it was up against powerhouse Ed Sullivan on Sunday nights. And yet, somehow, it pulled its time slot -- rare for an ABC series to beat something on NBC or CBS in those days -- and went on to be a long-running hit. Garner's performance had a LOT to do with that.

75 There are two definitions of censorship, a narrow one and a broad one. The narrow one is when you have to take your book or film or whatever to a government agency prior to publication in order to get it approved. Obviously, this is not that.

Your example may not be that, but considering how many publishers are jumping at the bit to be "unofficial" government employees with their inane "only publish what validates and affirms the narrative" bit, we have plenty of "that" kind of censorship in America. Or better yet, Youtube and its crusade against "misinformation."

threw the corpses of the victims of human sacrifice.

There's a scene in Mel Gibson's Apocalypto when the hero is thrown for dead onto a field entirely covered with the rotting corpses of his predecessors. It's absolutely horrifying, but I wonder if it's accurate, since that would have been a huge source of infection, not to mention the smell.

95 human sacrifice is ok because it was ritualized?
Lefty logic is a bit more convoluted then that. It goes something like...
The Spanish invaders were bad because they were Christians and White Hispanics. Therefore the Aztecs were good. Now, they did some things we might think, with our eurocentric views, are bad but since they were the mostly peaceful natives, their actions can't really be bad. So...uh...since it was part of a ritual that bonded them all together with nature and the earth, it was actually kind of a good thing you know?

Indeed, our DeepState is "learning" from the CCP test runs of using BigTech to impose "social credit scores" AND using the power of BigGov and BigCorp to impose real punishment. 152 Another amusing bit of Aztec/Spanish research. When the Spanish conquered the Aztecs, they forbid them to practice human sacrifice.

Cortez left the capital with some of his men, and the Aztecs decided now was the time to go back to killing people. The remaining garrison saw this and decided to tell them to stop. With musket balls.

Modern literature calls this a massacre. I tend to side with the Spanish.

I still thank that Avenatti's Presidential aspirations were the big reason behind his downfall. I think Swetnick put it over the edge... that was a thorn in the side of the Dem faction. But I think the Avenatti Prez talk was the main thing. They decided to put an end to that line of reasoning.

There's no reason a Democrat operative should get arrested or sentenced or even questioned, unless he runs afoul of the Inner Party. It's the black letter of US law at this point.

A South Carolinian's decision to get vaccinated is a personal one for them to make. Enticing, coercing, intimidating, mandating, or pressuring anyone to take the vaccine is a bad policy which will deteriorate the public's trust and confidence in the State's vaccination efforts

The "but muh private corporation" libertarians remind me of "muh legal drugs" libertarians. It's like they're being stupid on purpose.

The whole farking POINT is non-government individual responsibility. It's taking principles and actions outside of the sphere of the state and into the realm of personal behavior, contracts, and voluntary associations. Things don't "not count" when government isn't involved, they count more because that's where they're supposed to be.

The value and principle of freedom of speech and expression isn't a farking *self-indulgence*. It's necessary for society to work and doubly necessary for society to work when Daddy Government isn't in the room making everyone play by the rules.

I estimate 5% of the public will never, ever get over covid. They will demand vaccination records of everyone who ever steps foot on their doorstep. They will mask up alone in their houses. They will wear hoolahoops around them in stores.

The response to covid broke millions of people mentally. The plus side is that they will possibly be so terrified of covid that they won't breed.

Auschwitz is indeed chilling... but it's sort of difficult to picture the enormity when you're there. There are clues in the modifications. The barb wire. The crude bunks, stacked too close. The crematoria. Some of the "aesthetic" touches, like the famous main gate.

But you visit it on a sunny day, and the thing mostly looks like what it is: an old cavalry barracks. It might be the spookiest thing about it; it doesn't really look like a death factory. Not until you look closer.

If I knew nothing else about The Steal, the overreactions to it tell me all I need to know. you don't resort to this behavior if you believe the election was fair, you would write him off as a nut job and let him scream whatever he wanted.

On a related note, the reason the left is resorting to hyperbole about Jan 6th it's because they think our only option is to resort to violence and they want to scare us off it by preemptively accusing us of insurrection and terrorism. So that we will be intimidated into not doing the only thing that might work.

As usual, they are three steps out of us. They know what our best options are before we do.

Got mine back when the Fed was giving a huge tax credit for them and Cali had their Solar Initiative that gave money to homeowners for doing so. Ended up paying no Fed tax that year due to the tax credit, and because my house was south-facing with a roof slope almost ideal, got 98% of the CSI credit. For me, at the cost of electricity at the time, break-even was about 10 or 11 years, including if I had to replace the inverter once. I think I've payed a few hundred in electricity over the last decade I've had them, so worked for me. Can't say what the economics of it are today, may not be worth it. Wasn't for me without the subsidies (I already directly and indirectly paid for).

Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at July 09, 2021 10:55 AM (7Ttpp)

Auschwitz had gas chambers but really wasn't the "death factory". Auschwitz was a human labor storage camp.

Colorado has reached 70% vaccination (at least one dose) I have no idea if chiro and wife got vaccinated or not. I had an appt. Wed and the office was closed, called today and got the answering machine message with the reason "L has covid"

Bottom line: this does not give me any confidence in the efficacy of the vaccines. By the time fall rolls around I expect it will be "waiting lists and priority based on age/health for the amended vaccines that work for the new covid variants"

I know I sound like an anti-vaxxer. I'm not, I got the shingles vaccine pair because an acquaintance had shingles last summer. I procrastinate on doc stuff but intend to get my tetanus up to date, with the horse and farm care I have some risk for that. But I don't have much exposure to the public so I usually don't mess with flu vaccines and the FNM and CDC have given me many reasons to distrust them. Thus them pushing the covid vaccine so hard makes me disinclined to get it. They may be the broken clock twice a day on this one thing, but I'll wait and see, it will take extra evidence to convince me based on their track records.

I found this out in HS, when I dated a very left-wing girl. She caught a lot of grief from her fellow lefties for that. And that was in the 60s.

I believe it's inherent in the Left. While Right wing governments have suppressed dissenters for clear and specific reasons, Left wing ones do it all the time. I believe it's a matter of their idea of their own legitimacy. They see themselves as embodying dissent; and you cannot have dissent against dissent. Yes; Birkenau was the overflow/extension camp where they just mass-slaughtered people. They used the skilled ones at Auschwitz first, and those who survived that were dispensed with at Birkenau. Those who didn't were disposed of onsite.

IIRC, it was IG Farben who ran the laborers there. BASF and Bayer remain today as the spun off pharma/chem giants. For you graphic designers, the imaging and dyes divisions were spun off as Agfa. Makes reading their colorbook a little weird.
