The Japanese don't mess around. When wine moms talk about racism, they have no freaking clue. China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, whatever give me a break. Japan is insular and doesn't give a damn what others think.
Another funny thing about Marijuana. I don't keep up on the laws, maybe they have changed. But when everyone said it was legal in Amsterdam in the 80s and 90s, they were wrong. It was never legal. It was tolerated, it was decriminalized, but that is not the same as legal. Americans can't seem to get a grip around anything unless the government says it is legal. Decriminalized means don't act like an asshole and we won't bust you. They had similar laws in Spain and other Euro countries.

If you get caught bringing prohibited drugs into Japan you are going to jail, unless like you said you are rich or famous and even then it might be an issue. They don't play there and trust me you do not want to go to a Japanese jail. The wife was legal counsel and had to do jail visits for US service members when we were stationed in Yokosuka back in the day and conditions were sparse. They got a sheet and a pallet on the floor to sleep on with two servings of plain white rice a day when they went to prison. They had to "earn" anything else by working. If they fvcked up they got beaten and I mean beaten with sticks. It was brutal.

I was in port once for a few days and the Japanese Warden of the prison invited the JAG people out to the prison for the bona dori festival. I put my class "A" uniform on and went with the wife and we sat at tables like kings eating sushi and all sorts of stuff while we watched the prisoners do the bone dance. One American prisoner was not cooperating and the guards descended on him and beat the ever living fvck out of him. It was educational.

I was in basic when it came out. The drill sergeants loved the movie and told us how great it was. I said this before, but it is a direct, quote. They said it made Platoon look like a pussy movie.
My honest opinion is I don't think too highly of either of them. FMJ had some amazing scenes and amazing performances. But you don't have to scratch too much to see what the point was. I don't need Wayne in The Green Berets, but I know when a lefty from Napa is telling me my country sucks. Performances aside, I don't think they aged that well.
Maybe there were not really good and fair Vietnam movies. I liked The Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now. They were so far fetched that I bought into the stories. I have pushed Uncommon Valor hear before. I think it is a very underrated film. It is interesting that no cable channel shows it, ever.

Hollywood guns are magic. Hold as much ammo as the script requires, bullets can't pass through cars unless they hit the gas tank, in which case they cause an explosion and any item placed over the barrel of a gun can either cause the gun to explode (if the good guy needs it to) or make the gun make the softest whisper ever. Probably why leftist are so stupid on guns, their knowledge comes from movies and TV in which guns are like Harry Potter wands that can do anything.

Yeah, it's like they had to cram every bad actor into every movie. The post Vietnam veterans weren't treated very well in movies either. Psycho killers or weepy victims.
My time served there was with professionals, all senior NCOs and officers. Advisors. Everyone's experience was different.

A good movie about Korean War is War Hunt with Robert Redford. I say
good because it was the only War movie that made me scared as a young
teen. I haven't seen it as an adult.
