Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | In Pathetic Bid to Boost Ratings, CNN Goes Full Demagogue Against Tucker CarlsonTucker Carlson noted some time ago: With Trump gone, CNN and MSNBC are lacking a hate object, and experiencing low ratings due to this. So guess what? You're now the designated hate object. And Tucker Carlson is the new Hate Object. CNN is the Deplatforming Network. All of their "journalism" is just team-ups with Media Matters and Sleeping Giants to pressure social media companies and advertisers to deplatform/boycott conservative voices. As CNN's Brian Stelter flounders in the ratings next to Fox News' Tucker Carlson, he's brought out the serious accusations against the Fox host: that Carlson is working "in cahoots" with notorious conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. He gives the game away right there. He literally says it: We need a new Donald Trump, and we've decided that Tucker Carlson is the new Donald Trump. Audiences don't seem to care, however, and 'Tucker Carlson Tonight' pulled in around 2.8 million viewers every night in June, compared to the 786,000 who tuned in to Stelter's 'Reliable Sources', which has lost viewers every month since President Joe Biden took office. Though the two host shows at different times, they are both seen as representatives of their networks’ political stances. Carlson, perhaps unsurprisingly, was the object of Stelter's ire again on Sunday night. The CNN host played a clip of Carlson and Jones tackling similar subjects -- the government allegedly monitoring their communications, risks associated with vaccines, alleged FBI involvement in the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill -- before asking fellow CNN journalist Oliver Darcy if "Tucker Carlson is the new Alex Jones?"Note well that the comparison to Alex Jones is not coincidental. CNN's first big censorship win was getting Alex Jones deplatformed. By claiming Tucker Carlson is the new Alex Jones (and also, the new Donald Trump), they are explicitly calling for him to be deplatformed. Some of us warned that the Alex Jones deplatforming was just the proof-of-concept run for the new CNN-Media Matters-Tech Monopoly censorship regime. "Respectable" conservatives of course ignored us, and ignorantly dismissed this warning. They were just too busy sucking off their leftwing Twitter palz to get their faces covered in that sweet, sweet leftwing respectability. Astonishingly enough, it turns out when you let the left censor people, the left keeps censoring people. But let's keep giving money to the Conservative, Inc. junior partners in censorship. They really care about our rights.
Experts say CNN and MSNBC are suffering a massive loss of credibility, if you can believe that. (I'd note that Fox has also lost a lot of credibility with conservatives.) The American news media ranks last among 46 countries, as far as public trust in their media. The United States ranks last among 46 countries when it comes to public trust in the media, according to a report published Tuesday. The survey, which was conducted in Jan. and Feb. with approximately 92,000 respondents, found that only 29% of those in the U.S. said they could trust most news most of the time, while Finland held the highest level of trust in the media at 65%. The study was commissioned by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, and conducted by YouGov. The survey also found that trust in the media improved in nearly every country surveyed, but not in the U.S., where the level of trust remained largely flat from the previous year. ...

If there was a serious, nationally scaled conservative outlet, this wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem.
There would be some level of balance within the media news ecosystem that people could rely on. It's not a call for "objective reporting" but for serious presence of bias on the other side. Right now, the only national opinion is leftist. Even Fox News has adopted it. So, you have half the country (possibly more) who simply don't have a voice at the national stage. Trust plummets. I would assume the sudden negative turn is actually all Fox News' fault. Before 2020, there was reason to believe on some level that Fox News was somewhat conservative. Conservatives had that at least. And then Fox News decided to make itself obviously an organ of the left, so conservatives' last hope for a voice at the national level in news media essentially folded. ++++ And that is the real Big Lie. The rest is window-dressing - the ratings, the good cop/bad cop, all of it. For Stelter, this is possibly true. For Carlson, it isn't. Carlson is the odd man out at Fox, and represents not even a single, imperceptible, meaningless element of their C-suite or editorial or newsroom executive staffs. Carlson represents Fox as well as Maxine Waters represents her district. But this is the lie, that there is an opposition and that their representative is Carlson. In the key demo the year-over-year declines in prime time were more dramatic, with CNN slipping a staggering 68% compared to the second quarter of 2020. Fox News saw a 50% drop compared to one year ago, and MSNBC's decline was just slightly less, at 48%.
++++ So they're all down and down fairly catastrophically. We knew that. From a business standpoint, this should be interesting but it isn't because these outfits are all subsidized. The more interesting consideration is everything else that's down, too. Sports, entertainment - comedy and drama, cable and broadcast - news, etc. Nothing is up. That isn't possible. So the more interesting question isn't "what happened at the networks" but rather "where is the audience?" Those people aren't dead. So where are they? YouTube, in aggregate, is doing a bit better. Streaming as an overall sector has increased somewhat, but not dramatically. So where is the audience? My guess: games, or gone. These people had better hope it's games, because they could woo some of those folks back. If they're gone and tuned out, they're unlikely to ever come back and the audience decline is already a secular trend. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at July 06, 2021 11:20 AM (Jsjd7) 43

They achieved their objective (removing Trump), so it's all pretty boring and irrelevant details now. The "news" has collapsed into pretty juvenile propaganda, mostly, and that's in all forms, so CNN's ratings don't tell us much. The wire services (the most basic raw material that fills, and now poisons, 95% of all "news" operations) have lost none of their dominance, and are crude propagandistic operations as well, for the most part.

So when NSA says Tucker is not a target, it probably means he is a target. (even though NSA is supposedly less evil than FBI, idk). Posted by: Colorado Alex in Exile at July 06, 2021 11:44 AM (jOcSX) ++++ Yes. Retailers have massive data operations to identify exactly these inflection points, namely pregnancy. Pregnancy and moving to a new city are the biggest opportunities to change preferences. Target was early in this, and they're very good at it. They caused a kerfuffle when their system flagged a customer as "likely pregnant" and they adjusted their marketing and upped the direct mail to her. The girl's dad called them and said, essentially, "it's hard enough keeping her responsible without you inundating her with baby stuff all the damn time." As it turns out, the girl was indeed pregnant - but Target still had to tune their system to *not* activate the marketing stuff if the customer was likely under 18. The US media absolutely sucks at performing its job under the quaint, outdated notion that the media should be providing objective facts and information to the public. In fact, 29% just shows that there are a lot of left-wingers who want to pump up the media's credibility. But they see their role as propagandists for the left-wing fringe of the left-wing of the Democrat party. And at that, they are succeeding pretty well.

Glenn Greenwald: "...they will insist it's the fault of those who distrust them: they're dumb, manipulated, primitive, racist, etc."
Which, if being generous to the assertion, must be, "Well, how exactly did everyone become so dumb, manipulated, primitive, racist, etc.? YOU (not Greenwald, but MFM) have held the reigns of information and distribution of facts and truth. YOU were in charge. YOU turned everyone this way if this assertion is in fact true." Of course, they know that assertion is a lie, but hey, it's all they have. And they don't even have that. MFM delede est. And, apparently, it doesn't need our help anymore. We had a similar discussion this morning. Liberal progressives and their liege have lost all the classical arguments. Most of what they state is easily proven as fallacy. But they persist, with the help of bulbous buffoons like tater. They launch ad hominem and clearly false attacks based on nothing but their own demons and beliefs. They engage in wokeism and demagoguery. They pull out the "nutty" and "racist" when the argument is not only lost, but demonstrably proven so. This is an ephemeral strategy. One can simply not fool people forever. The substance? Look at their ratings. People are on to the con.

Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at July 06, 2021 12:15 PM (YqDXo) Tribal politics and radical Islam. Everyone is busy fighting everyone else over grudges hundreds of years old. In addition, most of the major powers bordering the region, Iran, Pakistan, China, etc., have historical reasons for wanting to encourage this sort of infighting. The Afghan tribes, when unified, tended to ride out of the mountains, steal anything not nailed down, nail anything in a skirt, and carry off both back to their fortresses. It will be interesting to watch Afghanistan and China, IF anty of it gets actually and honestly reported.
First thing to watch for is which tribes China allies with? The Pashtun and therefore the Taliban, or the non-Taliban tribes? How many of the Afghan tribes will trust the Chinese after seeing how they treat their own Uyighur (sp?) population? I can only hope the Chinese are treated as well as the British, Russians, and Americans were treated by Afghanistan. Posted by: rd at July 06, 2021 12:23 PM (Z32m1) 423

LOL, UNC got played like a republican in congress. Agreed. If they had stuck to their guns and denied her based on academic reasons, they would still be called racist but at least have a legitimate rationale. Look ma, the Lambda variant. Anybody who's familiar with math and programming patterns can tell this is scamdemic propaganda on steroids.
The "Brazilian" variant represented Beta, the second iteration. "Delta" represents small changes in math, it's also the four iteration (delta is the fourth Greek letter). "Lambda" represents anything. In computing, a lambda function is something that's created on-the-fly whenever it's needed. It's discarded right away. It's a con and they are rubbing it in your face. Not very subtly. Posted by: lambda at July 06, 2021 12:31 PM (jo+zF) 441
Those people aren't dead.
