Flying car completes test flight between airports
A prototype flying car has completed a 35-minute flight between international airports in Nitra and Bratislava, Slovakia.

The hybrid car-aircraft, AirCar, is equipped with a BMW engine and runs on regular petrol-pump fuel.

Its creator, Prof Stefan Klein, said it could fly about 1,000km (600 miles), at a height of 8,200ft (2,500m), and had clocked up 40 hours in the air so far.

It takes two minutes and 15 seconds to transform from car into aircraft.

'Very pleasant'
The narrow wings fold down along the sides of the car.

Prof Klein drove it straight off the runway and into town upon arrival, watched by invited reporters.

He described the experience, early on Monday morning, as "normal" and "very pleasant".

In the air, the vehicle reached a cruising speed of 170km/h.

It can carry two people, with a combined weight limit of 200kg (31 stone).

But unlike drone-taxi prototypes, it cannot take off and land vertically and requires a runway.

Now only if the prices of lumber would come down.

Police in Lackawanna County broke up an exorcism in the lumber aisle of a home-improvement store Monday.

Details are scarce on just what was going on inside the Home Depot on Commerce Drive in Dickson City Monday afternoon, but police were called around 3:26 p.m. to escort several people out of the store for “bad behavior,” WBRE/WYOU is reporting.

According to reports, the exorcism was held for the trees that had been turned into lumber.

Is this too good to hang onto until Saturday's ONT? Perhaps, you Morons can be the judge.

A Man's Penis Broke Vertically During Sex—an Apparent Medical First

The awkward injury was surgically repaired and thankfully didn't lead to lasting disability, UK doctors say.

A man in the UK appears to be a medical first, though probably not in the way he would have wanted. His doctors say he’s the first known person to have had his penis broken vertically during sex. Despite the odd injury, though, the man has fully recovered.

A broken penis, or penile fracture, is more accurately described as a tear starting from the tunica albuginea, the protective layer surrounding the erectile tissue that pump blood to the penis. The reason why it feels like a broken bone is that most injuries happen during sex, when a fully erect penis is bent too far and/or with too much force and buckles under the pressure, which then causes blood in the penis to leak out. When that happens, it’s almost always accompanied by a loud popping sound along with quickly formed bruising and swelling, again much like a broken bone. The injury also causes immediate detumescence, or the loss of an erection. It’s thought to be uncommon, though probably underreported due to embarrassment.

Embarrassment? Ya think Da Nozzo?

Spicy means spicy, amirite? Not to our Genius Award Winners.

A Tennessee couple is facing attempted murder charges after they allegedly opened fire at Burger King employees following a dispute “over a spicy chicken sandwich,” according to a criminal complaint.

Police report that Tavarus McKinney, 22, and Keonna Halliburton, 20, got into an argument earlier this month with Burger King workers at a restaurant in Memphis. The duo, cops say, complained that Halliburton’s chicken sandwich was too spicy.

After the “initial altercation,” McKinney and Halliburton departed for a few minutes, but returned in their Ford Escape and allegedly “fired multiple shots from the road into the parking lot.”

I spent countless hours as a kid look through a basket of 'rack packs' of baseball cards (which allowed you to see the top and bottom card in each of the three sections) in McCrory's looking for my favorite Braves players until I called over to the lunch counter by my mom to eat my grilled cheese.

Now, there is no McCrory's and baseball is just another woke sport I care nothing for.

155 A guy I used to know in grad school made a FB post the other day, defending CRT (because of course he did). I thought I'd lay down his argument here--actually he got it from somewhere else, but whatever--because knowing your enemy is useful.

1) Race is a social construct.
2) Racism in the United States is an ordinary experience of most people of color.
3) Legal advances (or setbacks) for people of color tend to serve the interests of dominant white groups.
4) Minorities deal with being stereotyped often.
5) No individual can be identified only in one way. A Black person can also identify as a woman, a lesbian, a feminist, a Christian, and so on.
6) People of color are uniquely qualified to speak on behalf of other members of their group (or groups) regarding the effects of racism.

So there you go. Dumb, obviously, but useful in terms of knowing the enemy propaganda.

I think they are owned by the chain that owns Ross Dress for less and some other discount stores, which seem to clump together in places. I was in 1 once, and would probably go more often if the one I know of wasn't almost 30 miles away.

That's another one I'm still mad about. We had a Sears and a K-Mart in town, the former of which was floundering while the latter was doing...pretty well, actually. Then corporate decided to shut down the K-Mart, while leaving the Sears open, despite the fact that no customers went there and lots of people still bought from K-Mart. Fast forward a year or two, and both places were emptied out.

But the former K-Mart is an Orscheln's now, so that's something, I guess.

I got it from an antique dealer who thought it was a good choice for home defense. It was in horrible shape, we had to puddy and stain the stocks, scrub and re blue the barrel. But after that, it is likely my all time favorite weapon. It is literally lighter than a bb gun. It was made in 1931, the best year for Canadian rifles. I think we paid $22 bucks.

DG's are extremely popular around here. You're not going to get the same selection you would at a Wal-Mart, but you can also get your shopping done a lot faster and without feeling overwhelmed. And small communities like them, because they can give a good economic boost.

So invariably, there's liberal squawking about how they "ruin the community." Or something.

325 The Sears catalogue in the seventies supposedly had a men's underwear photo where the dick showed. One of my coworkers brought it in and we were all in the lunchroom laughing and trying to decide if it was actually his dick or a shadow. Sadly, I think it was a shadow. This time it was, 'We apologize for the inconvenience: to prevent possible abuse of the Startpage service, your Internet connection has been prevented from accessing it at this time"

Right, I insisted on bookstores of the seventies and not books of the seventies.

She may be borderline bat shit crazy, but at least she learned a long time ago to channel that shit through extreme exercise/fitness among other things.
1000 dollars through Zoom personal training and Physical therapy sessions and HIIT classes. That's what building up a loyal client base via coaching since highschool will get you.
And still has time for late night yoga with me before bed. (Considering babies while on this trip. Marriage has come up as well from her and my friends. If our parents bring it up this weekend, then I will either have to do it or cut her loose if she really wants a couple more kids and marriage before it's too late).

447 Sports Authority was mediocre but at least it was a brick/mortar sports store, which to me is quite useful. Here in SoCal there was a similar but generally much better one, Sport Chalet (they also folded about the same time).

There was a particular one that was the best store for ocean sports, and rollerblading, of any store I've ever been in. Tremendous selection, knowledgeable staff (they actually knew the sport and the gear). To this day I haven't found anything comparable, in either area. For a more general/outdoors kind of store, the Scheel's chain (closest is Reno) is outstanding also.

I guess the market realities/numbers are what they are, but the demise of real, quality sporting goods stores is a huge net loss in consumer welfare in the digital age. One of the few cases of an indisputable step backwards.

As for the regulations, fuck the police.
You said flying cars just plain don't work. But, I mean, flying cars work. I mean, it's right there, working. Maybe there's some other way you could summarize your objections?
As for the price objections, you didn't factor in the cost of keeping the plane at wherever you landed, and the cost of renting a car there.
If I had that shit, I'd be flying every effing day, which would make it cheaper than having separate car and plane.

That's why I said two good used cars. One at you home airport, one at your destination airport. Everybody has wished for a "flying car" when they are stuck at a standstill in bumper top bumper traffic on the freeway. But guess what? Your flying car cannot get airborne without a takeoff roll, and how can you do that? Use the on-board disintegrator to vaporize a half-mile of other cars? And even if your car could do VTOL, FAA would not let you fly it off a freeway. And if your car could do VTOL, why would you drive it on the freeway in the first place?

Do they have the buffet? It was multiple types of pizza, plus other items. I used to gorge at that sucker on a regular basis.

Shakey was a veteran who'd acquired recurrent malaria while serving in WWII, which made him shiver and shake when he was having an attack.

That was back when men weren't pussies. If you shook from recurrent malaria, you just accepted the nickname
"Shakey". If you'd had a hand blown off, you accepted the nickname "Lefty". And so on. Accepted? Hell, you'd glory in it. Name your business after it.

Kids today get PTSD if someone forgets to call them "xim".

493 Gap was once a very good basic go-to store. But even then, they had idiotic management. I recall talking at length with the manager of the Pentagon City mall store one Sunday afternoon (I only went shopping during football season, all the idiots were watching the Deadskins, malls were empty).

It was the only place I'd bought polo shirts for years. Well made, heavy grade of cotton, perfect dimensions, easily the best polos in existence. And inexpensive. But this time they were gone, or they only had weird ugly colors, or something.

She explained the Gap rotation of different colors from their "palette", and also why certain popular styles of things just disappeared. It was idiotic. It was change for the sake of change. I said this, she agreed. Haven't bought anything of theirs in many years now.

499 I try to not make fun of the Air Force, it is low hanging fruit. I know they have historically had some really great warriors. From fighter pilots, to bombers, to some guys that flew some really weird aircraft to test for nuclear test around the globe. From Para Rescue, to the guys that defend nuke sites and other very high risk sites.

But the reality is they are famous for their food and golf courses. You think that is a shot but it is not. I respect the food, the Army and Marines could never reach that level. And if you have been around as many bases as I have, the Air Force by far has the best golf courses. But the one thing we did make fun of them about was the Basic at Lackland. They had one day of M16 familiarzation and one day of shooting the rifle with .22 sub caliber rounds. they didn't even shoot the legit rifle a single time.

I don't get that. If I knew people were questioning my training, i would go overboard to prove the opposite was the truth. But this stuff has been known for decades.

But seeing the jaw-dropping performance of the top brass, and the volume breadth and nature of the "whistleblower" info on the current Gleichschaltung exercise - only prudent assumption is that it's all a write-off. Degree may vary by service and unit.

542 The military is not currently the Miami condo. It can perform tasks as assigned, and as such tasks are almost always against very much non-peer adversaries, we can dominate if we decide to.

And there aren't really any near-peer adversaries who have much likelihood of getting into a scrape with us.

It's more the contamination with this odious idiotic racist crap, and actually the "pride" nonsense too, the fact that no institution has stayed above this garbage. And the effects on unit cohesion, retention. And of course there are the small issues of competence (Navy western Pacific bumper cars, other things), but those fall mostly under "collapsing standards and integrity".

548 You want a flying car that works? How about a flying motorcycle? Motorcycles have a much higher power to weight ratio than cars, right off the bat. So you build an airframe that you can slot a motorcycle into, and clamp it down. You use a specially modified motorcycle, say a Honda Goldwing, with a shaft drive that can be readily uncoupled from the rear wheel, and swung up to couple with the propeller drive. The cycle's wheel are your main landing gear, and light Teflon-covered skids keep the wingtips from dragging. Flight controls are built into the airframe, and the only motorcycle controls used in flight mode are the brakes and throttle, which would have to have a cruise function.

You buy the motorcycle, and lease flight hours on the airframes, which are hangared at select airports, and certified aero techs perform the mate-up of bike and plane.

Our problem is we have no thinkers in politics, punditry or academia that even tries to come up with solutions. Personally I think our military is far to large in personnel. As of right now we don't have any real military conflicts or enemies that requires the amount of people we have serving. And the upper brass have no incentive to downsize.

578 The poison currently being gulped by the military is a new-ish, separate issue.

The matching of resources to strategy is another pre-existing issue. We have a force far far bigger than needed for the actual political will/understanding of the country, which is nil for anything involving much effort or time. Dressed up in less invidious euphemisms, we might consider a posture suited to a minimalist strategy. Be able to evacuate embassies (that could be a lively business) and protect the homeland. That's it.

Of course by now, even defending CONUS would be far from a slam-dunk thing, in terms of public support.

The biggest pieces being maybe 2.5" by 3" by 5/16" section thickness, by 20 feet long. Lots of cross and diagonal braces, too. All held together by square-headed 5/8" galvanized nuts and bolts. The air impact spun most of them off real easy-like.

624 Gosh, I wonder what would make Russia adventurous? Maybe NATO's plans to make Ukraine a NATO country as lately as Obama. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Cold War ended and we lacked the imagination and leadership to move on. So we're still fighting a war with an adversary that doesn't even exist.

China? I'm supposed to imagine we need to have a ring of permanent bases to limit its ambitions when our ruling class has been committed to China economically ever since it granted it most favored nation trading status back in either Pappy Bush's or Clinton's tenure? We are being fed the idea of existential threats so that we never back off the current military funding. It's all exactly what Ike warned about.

Reading more survivor tales. I posted about the wife calling her husband saying she saw the pool deck collapse first, then the line went dead.

Another one confirms that. A woman head knocking sounds, then a big crash and ran down to the lobby to ask what was going on. In the lobby, she saw the pool deck collapse. She and her kids then ran for their lives.

We can be sure something about the pool deck and parking garage was failing, likely due to corrosion. But the actual specific failure mode that brought the rest of the building down is still not clear. But the pool deck collapse was the trigger.

No, Russia has a military and nuclear weapons for a reason.
You can't say Russia isn't interested in taking over Europe, especially when they took over a Russian part of the Ukraine, but even without that, you can't say you know what's on their minds.
A major point made in the '80s was that we can't make our military strategy on what other countries look like they will do, but on what the could do, what their capability is.
Germany can have all the money power and political power they want. It don't mean shit compared to military power, and Europe has none of that.

Not to mention that this "trusted" supplier had been sourcing their beef for years from....Kaposvar.

As I recall, the pool was some distance from the building itself, yes?
Probably then it's due to shifting sand and soil under the whole property.
The water flooding the basement makes that look likely; I think water-saturated soft soil or sand would shift a lot easier than dry.

Our defending them in WWI and WWII also infantalized them, if that infantalized them.
Strong militaries in Europe we had. People didn't like the results, see WWI and WWII.
The people of Europe are themselves against having strong militaries, and have been since before WWII, before WWI.
It was the leftist parties in England that were against them having a strong military before WWI. And before WWII.
The only way to make people learn about danger is to have them suffer from it. But in the current case that means the only way for Europe to learn they should have a strong military is for Russia to march across Europe. I don't like that.

From what has come out (and the Daily Mail has been good at aggregating it all), the original sin with that building was improperly installed waterproofing of the pool deck (basically big slab surrounding the building with the parking lot underneath. Some membrame/barrier thing wasn't installed correctly.

This let the parking garage area underneath become something of a bathtub for water, leaking out of the pool, rainwater, and even tidewater pressure underground.

A guy who worked as the head of maintenance for the building in the late '90s said there was constant flooding of the parking garage, especially during abnormal high tide vents. Water would pour in, and there was one to as much as two feet of standing water down there. This wasn't normal he warned, and he said management just ignored it.

He said there was constant pumping going on, so much that the pumps would wear out all the time.

Americans traditionally loathed a standing army, Jefferson for one was against it. The US Army before the Civil war was tiny, like 15,000 tiny. It ballooned into the millions and then it simply disappeared. Same with before ww1 and same with before ww2. We definitely had something against large standing armies. I guess that changed somewhat after ww2 but still I don't think the standing army was large considering the population and our newfound power. Obviously the Cold War dictated things we built up.,
really the idea of a large standing army and a force that projected its strength came out of WW2 and the Cold War world.

If you watch the video of the collapse, you'll see the thing came down in three sections. The two latter sections came down because of the stress of the first falling section. The support of those didn't fail, it was just subject to stresses and forces from the first section falling that exceeded what it could stand by a long shot.

The question is what caused the first section to come down. It is clear that is was bottom up failure. Something at the bottom gave way, and everything above came crashing down.

The support columns under that part could have been corroded like we know parts of the pool deck and garage structure were and just finally gave way.

Or, something about that first "sink hole" failure of the pool deck knocked those support columns under the first part sideways. Like taking a sledgehammer and knocking a support beam out from under something.

You forgot to factor in the 'protect Bribem at all costs' media strategy, as evidenced by the political attack on Harris in Politico.

"protect The Rutabaga-in-Chief, or you get the Bitch From Hell".

However well deserved the attack might be. I'm certain she's a stone cold cnut, but that ain't the point.

Making her a sour 25thA choice is the plan.

688 I do think President Ho will be a train wreck, but maybe that's what's needed, so best to get it going.

691 That actually sounds good to me today, Skip.

After only eating a piece of dry toast, rice and some applesauce over the last 2 days, I think I've finally turned the corner.

Not risking more than that today though.

705 My coder is trying to convince me to move to .net
from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of
the expenses. But he's tryiong none the less. I've been using Movable-type on several websites for about a year and am worried about switching to another platform.
I have heard very good things about blogengine.net.
Is there a way I can import all my wordpress content into it?
Any help would be really appreciated!
