Quick Hits: Hasbeens Make Leftwing Political Ad, Yawns Ensue Edition

Obama's former ethics czar says that Hunter Biden selling his fake grifter paintings has a "shameful and grifty feeling to it."

He then compares this obvious grift to people paying money to stay in Trump hotels. Even though Trump hotel rooms' prices have been determined by the working marketplace, just as all other hotel rooms' prices are determined.

Meanwhile, Hunter Biden has no training in art -- none! He just started! -- and his usual funders -- overseas tyrants and criminals -- can't slip him money through the usual means.

So now he has a new grift.

Selling paintings through a gallery which reportedly has "China ties."

Walter Shaub, who served as the Office of Government Ethics director under former President Obama, said Hunter Biden's latest art venture has a "shameful and grifty feeling to it" and believes President Biden should "at a minimum" ask his son "not to go through with this auction" due to the suspicions of potential for pay-for-play corruption.

"The notion of a president's son capitalizing on that relationship by selling art at obviously inflated prices and keeping the public in the dark about who's funneling money to him has a shameful and grifty feel to it," Shaub told Fox News this week.

One of the public defenders assigned to "defend" the January 6 protesters -- note the right does not bail out and pay for lawyers for its protesters; we let them rot in solitary confinement -- is pushing her "clients" to watch... movies about "systemic racism."

Note that her demand that they watch this propaganda indicates that she believes they're racist and need to atone for their sins.

How vigorous a defense do you think she's mounting, giving that she herself is attempting to force "rehabilitation" of her how styling on the clients she's allegedly representing?

Leftwing teachers whine about the "onerous" demands of complying with FOIA, because they want to keep their Critical Race Theory indoctrination hidden from the public. NBC just nods in empathy. Why should the public know what the public schools they're paying for with public money are teaching their children?

By the way, compliance with FOIA is not "onerous." It's easy. Just grab the requested files and photocopy them and fax them.

What's "onerous" is going through them and inventing pretexts why you believe that these public documents should be protected from public view.

Complying with FOIA is not onerous. Fighting and illegally evading FOIA is onerous, and sometimes requires fake-name emails hosted on a bathroom server.

Ask NeverTrump's preferred candidate of 2016, the incorruptible Hillary Clinton.

Kathleen Kennedy hired a leftwing lesbian feminist to create a Star Wars series, and it's going as well as you'd expect.

By the way, this particular woman was the personal assistant to Harvey Weinstein for years and said nothing. Well-- she did praise him a bunch of times.

So she has an extra incentive to really pump up her Progressive Street Cred.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with "nude" underwear being available in five shades of "nude."

What I find strange is the corporate PR move of claiming that this is a lingerie line... inspired by career criminal and anal drug smuggler George Floyd.

By the way: Note the obligatory "Healthy at any size" models.

I do note, however, that all the ads for male underwear -- I just bought some today -- feature men with razor-sharp ads.

Apparently "body diversity" exists to frustrate the Male Gaze, but definitely not to frustrate the Male Gays.

You know, there was a time when this kind of revelation would have consequences. If it happened at this stage, the PD would be released and a new one brought on because she is clearly biased against her client. If it happened later, an appeal would be granted immediately on the basis of incompetent counsel.

Now, though, she's just a brave warrior for all that's right in the world.

This kind of thing is why I think the press sometimes accidentally do more harm than good. This is a bad take, and it does nothing to help advance the equity narrative.

First, The opening scene of "Saving Private Ryan" *could* have featured women in the one role they were permitted at the time, as life-saving medical staff. The heroic role that women played could and should have been celebrated. The modern patriarchy boosters chose not to do so because they would rather perpetuate the unearned benefits they receive as a result of their artificially-imposed positions of privilege.

But that's still not very good. A better question would be "why was this film made at all?" It serves no purpose other than to glorify the armed agents of colonists of all varieties. This should not be celebrated. Better still, the authoress could have recommended that a *different* film be made - one that shows that war for what it was: an existential struggle between oppressive colonialists in which they slaughtered the working classes and indigenous peoples.

On my mission I met a guy who had Polio. He was from El Salvador. One leg was significantly shorter than the other and something with the way his skull was shaped gave him significant pain when he tried to read more than a few words.

And nobody that can speak up on their behalf (other than people like us here who really can't do anything much to help) is doing so. It's a national shame. A travesty. And no doubt they are being targeted for political reasons, are being made examples of...and they will continue to suffer because nobody will help them. Anybody who broke through a police barricade (however idiotically incompetent the police were to allow such a thing), who bum-rushed non-public areas of the Capitol, are just stupid hooligans who are Marinus van der Lubbe* X 100,000 for the vile authoritarians now destroying what's left of the country. 108 I am starting to think that FOIA was a bad idea. Not because transparency is bad, but because it put the onus in the wrong place.

Every government document - everything, including emails and memos and working papers and everything else - should automatically be published within six months of creation. If you don't want it published, you have to file for an exception to the publication requirement with the narrowly-described and qualifying justification for the exception - and the exception request itself must be made public so that people can find out what you didn't release and why.

Requesting that the exception be reviewed and nullified should be the only place where the onus is on the citizen.

Low-status men have huge barriers when it comes to obtaining a relationship, but it's never discussed because a) social climbers don't give a shit about low-status men, and b) the term "barriers" only apply to women + minorities, and even then, it only applies to high-status situations like CEO's and other leadership positions.

252 OneEyedJack, of course everyone, including BLM garbage and antifa psychos, deserve full due process protections, and to the extent the Jan. 6 people aren't, it's outrageous, as I said.

I was reacting to ace's implication that somehow some idiot who thought bum-rushing the Senate chamber and being there for 4 minutes is some kind of ally or anyone I should care about. The ACLU, of course, should have long ago gone ballistic over their treatment, but that organization has given up even their head-fakes towards due process they once pretended to care about.

Two completely separate issues. They should all be getting treated much better than they are, their treatment as far as I can tell is an outrage - and at least some of them are idiots who otherwise merit no interest.

254 This does not strike me as a winning approach.

Communist Karen doesn't know how to behave. Its sort of the one-sided hate and vitriol shown to Pro Lifers in front of abortion clinics.

Exchange the word "Christian" with "Muslim" and given the extremely high tensions and emotions going on, it would make the church scene in the movie The Kingsmen look like a library prior to year-end exams in comparison.

Also on the agenda is CRT. I'm sure half the room will be heckled and loudly condemned as racists every few seconds.

There is zero civility among the Left. The veneer of civilization is long gone.

Here's what I find funny about that. The top of the giant ad says, "This is Portland" and then there's a big chunk of blank space before the drivel starts. I take two conclusions from this:

We have the motor-voter thing here. So as soon as you apply, you get voter registration materials. We're on the "honor system" since the feature they designed into AB-60 (DL's for illegals) doesn't allow the DMV to differentiate who's legal and who's not. That's the story, no shit. So anybody who gets a DL can register to vote, and it's illegal in CA to ask them for proof.

No, you would buy capital assets right now, immediately, before cash became worthless.

What Dimon is suggesting is that banks want to loan out when interest rates are high, not right now. But no one wants a high interest loan on something costing 20 times what it's worth...no, businesses would get their loans now, with a fixed lower rate, or wait for inflation to subside

That is of course the way to do it. But many of these companies make stupid devices that don't allow local-only control. You have an "app" (I hate that term) that must connect to cloud server, which then comes back down and connects to the device.

The 3rd party is in the control pipeline all the time. Most of this consumer grade "smart shit" does this. It's stupid.

They can't. They caught us flatfooted. I've said before, same with highjackers and box cutters. They had their 1 chance. We'll be looking for the same garbage this time around. They won't be putting observers 100 feet away, or chasing them out. They won't be blocking windows. They won't be chasing people out and then counting. They won't be making 3am deliveries. They can try, but there will be carnage. And a 6 state coordinated effort is unlikely. Of course, the Dominion thing would have worked on its own if it hadn't been a landslide of epic proportions. Most any election doesn't have that kind of split.

They'll have to come up with something entirely new, and that's permanent rigging. If they can just get through one more general and get Trump out of the way, it's clear sailing. Easy enough to sway a 10-15% margin.

Demand control by power companies has been a thing for years, and using much older and simpler. Back when I was working with an electrician, we installed some of these units.

It was a radio controlled device that would cut off the A/C and/or water heater circuits. You mounted the units outside, because of radio reception needs, and wired the circuits through.

They would give the customer some discount for that. Duke here only offered that in some very high density load areas where the demand could become a problem on some of the local distribution lines.

The nature of I^2R losses is that it gets more and more expensive, losses get greater as load increases. The marginal cost of an additional kW-hr gets high.

402 384 S'funny. I always thought the thermostat by itself was a wondrous invention. I'm pondering just how much convenience we really need and at what price.

Come to Vermont, you get cold you get out of your chair and throw a log onto the fire, when you wake up in the morning you throw a lot of logs onto the fire.

404 Unrelated:

I started Dreyer's filmography last night with The President and The Parson's Widow. The Parson's Widow is a particularly wonderful silent film, if you haven't seen it yet. I watched it on Youtube.

Thanks. I picked up some new silents over the weekend, so am saving those for the 4th.

Gracious Lord. I'm so sorry. Even when I was a theatre major and a liberal (Not a leftist; I was never as crazy as these weirdos) I never thought that conservatives would put people in camps.

407 The big issue is the state doing it TO you, without giving you the option.

PG&E started running ads to let them take over energy consumption for you. The smart meters were the first step, but just shutting you down isn't intrusive enough. They want to know everything you're doing. So you can volunteer to get all these nifty gadgets and they'll figure out when you need to be cool, warm, wash your clothes, etc. The website doesn't seem to be showing the ads they've been running (just looked) of course it's got a nice, virtue signaling name. No way in hell I'm going to hook my appliances to the IOT. Of course, google has nest, and that's the hot commodity at the moment. What could go wrong?

410 nice to be able to set the thermostat low when you are away from the house for a week, then turn up the heat remotely a few hours before arriving home.

May be nice, but it's still dumb.

411 > I don't understand what you said and this is why I don't have any smart appliances.

It just means I have my in house network sectioned off and I use a tool called IPTables to make sure the section with all of my "smart" devices on it can't access the internet.

Lucky me. She's been with us since last March and isn't going back to Chicago until October. So I'm still under lockdown.

I have given thought that if she thinks my values are abhorrent, then she shouldn't get any of the inheritance which was derived from those same values. The two boys would do just fine. But that's mean.

415 BTW there are no women in Saving Private Ryan because they hit the beach first, woman were used by the Navy and Combat Engineers Gap teams to blow the obstacles so the troops could land.
Being smaller and more dexterous they could handle the explosives and the wiring to set them off.

416 Discovered recently that one of my sibs- a smart professional person, an entrepreneur, actually believes that Trump is the enemy of Democracy.

And that is why they must discount the opinion of the highly-credentialed pathologist who thinks there are problems with the COVID vax. Because he doesn't think Trump is the enemy of Democracy.
This is one of the most discouraging things so far this year.

417 353 Clutch,
It does not really work that way, very frequent causes for severe internal unrest including civil wars are stolen elections and assassinations/imprisonment of one side or the other's leaders.
