Yes, Democrats always blame lax gun laws and Republicans for crime in their cities. And yes, they are FOS. Atlanta has always had a lot of crime.

For Father's Day, I got a Best. Dad. Ever. shirt which I had to wear to a fancy restaurant in a nearby Appalachian VA town. Sat on the terrace, weather was beautiful. We started early, but by the time we left at 7 or so, the place was packed, with nary a mask in sight.

On the drive back, we saw a bumper sticker that said "My Governor is an idiot". Funny, sad and true.

It is tempting to cover the wounds that result from an absent father or from an abusive father by diminishing the significance of fatherhood. But this forgetfulness of origins leads to a greater loneliness and metaphysical confusion. A more promising path is to reflect more deeply on the hidden Fatherhood of God that undergirds and encompasses every human origin no matter how broken.

126 Put this one in the "Cool story, bro." bucket.

I'm working on replacing the motor mounts in my 21 year old Protege. One of them is up against the firewall and very difficult to access. I was looking at it from different angles to figure out an approach and just above it is an electrical conduit. From below I noticed something blue in color. I figured it was perhaps a label.
After lots of contortions, neck craning, and committing unnatural acts with flashlights, about midnight Friday I was able to get a good look at the mount and realized the blue thing I had seen was actually one of my 14mm sockets. (I color code all of my sockets by size. What, you mean you don't?)
I had dropped it FOUR YEARS AGO when changing the timing belt, couldn't find it, and had given it up as being lost at sea. I was able to retrieve it with a telescoping magnet.

Welcome back, old friend... hope you enjoyed the ride!

Patriarch of the church (He's 89) gets a call from someone saying that he's his grandson and has been arrested and needs bail money (Sharpest tool in the shed didn't know that grandfather might recognize his grandson's voice and con artist wasn't him?!!) Grandfather says, "If you're my grandson tell me about the great says trip we went on." Of course con artist got it wrong. Grandfather says "I tell you what. Call my son in law. He's wealthy and will help you out since he's your dad." Apparently the man and his son-in-law spoof on each a lot. Con artist starts his spiel. Guy says "He's my stepson, not my son." and precedes- as he tells me- "to use words not in the Bible" to the con artist. I laughed.

187 Happy Fathers Day to the Fathers among the Horde!
My MIL was caught in one of the bail the grandson out of jail for a tidy sum scams. Joined a class action lawsuit against Western Union and 6 years later actually received ALL her money back. We were astounded, expecting a check for $1-2 dollars. Bad thing, now shes basically afraid to answer the phone. Probably not a bad thing as she gets older, now she waits to hear a familiar voice on the answering machine before she picks up.
Hope those scammers meet the barbed...well you know.

190 "But I'm sure they'll figure out some way that she's RAYCISS."

Already do that. They will accuse her of "fetishizing black men"

It all makes sense once we realize they don't really care about racism - they are control freaks, it's about making normal people jump.

Same reason it's now "problematic" to tell someone who has lost weight that they look great. You are "implying obese people are less than human" or something.

A different site was trying to convince people that "female"
was a sexist term, and to use girl or woman instead. See, all the low-hanging fruit is gone (because people stopped using actual offensive words) so they have to make up new ones. And they choose benign words so more Normals
will get tripped up.

Several years ago, probably in the decades range at this point, I was having a conversation with my own Dad who was, probably still is, an unshakable Bush supporter. The conversation was about Walmart socks; why did all of the socks at Walmart come from China? Why did government policy seem to favor Walmart? He was very dismissive, and assumed that it was okay to give manufacturing capacity to competitors, a very Bush point of view, one that I think the Bushes still have an iron-clad commitment to. The Bushes, the Clintons, and the Bidens are all Chinaphiles, addicted to money and the sleazy efficiency of Fascism. They all married this greasy pig and can neither grasp it nor let it go. Obama was at least a Communist in his own right.

A lot of people feel they have to tamp down their happiness around one couple we know. They have "reconciled" themselves to the fact that they will never be grandparents. One son is gay and the daughters are environmentalists types who feel that having children will destroy "the planet". Now the daughters are probably a bit old to changer their minds, so that's that.

Anyway, before my first grandson was born I was advised by a mutual friend to not mention that I was going to be a grandmother. I ignored that advice and brought it up anyway. The husband gave me a sort of smile and said congratulations, the wife was quiet. They reminded me of the Vulgarian royalty in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

I'm sorry that they raised their kids to be true environmental nuts instead of poseurs, but that should not force me to be happy in secret lest I trigger their sadz

__________

It'll just make more work for accountants and tax lawyers. To avoid the tax, people will do things like put the beach or lake home in the kids' names while they're still alive, and give themselves a life estate in it, so that they can still use and control it during their lifetimes, but the kids technically own it, so it won't become part of the parents' estates when they die.

There are always ways around these taxes if you're rich enough to pay the lawyers and accountants who know the angles.

For our fathers, who have given us life and love, that we may show them respect and love, we pray to the Lord.

For fathers who have lost a child through death, that their faith may give them hope, and their family and friends support and console them, we pray to the Lord.

For men, though without children of their own, who like fathers have nurtured and cared for us, we pray to the Lord.

For fathers, who have been unable to be a source of strength, who have not responded to their children and have not responded to their families, we pray to the Lord.

God, our Father, in our wisdom and love you made all things, Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their son an daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect.

274 205 200 A lot of very good cars in the 80s, and what does GM come up with? Ta Da, presenting the Chevette, direct ancestor of the Vega.
----------
The Chevette had two advantages: it moved when the driver put it in gear, and it was easy to park in tighter spaces. That was it. Chevette said something about the driver: LOO-OOSERRR!!!

It's that way by design. I 'help' my cognitively disabled BIL handle his SSI and Medicaid paperwork. Damn near impossible for me, let alone him.

I swear they want you, or the patient, to simply give up.

276 >>Quite Darwinian. The punishment is ending their gene line. So, self-correcting in 40 years.

So sad for the lost teens who are convinced by doctors, teachers, a social media that the solution to very typical teen angst/depression is radical, destructive meds and surgery.

277 I am gaining consciousness, slowly. Apparently, Juneteenth is a thing for TV sports channels. Bizarre propaganda effort. Also, the US Open just had a long advertisement on glorifying Asian American devotion to the Democrat Party. I think I'll take a short nap and hope it all goes away.

279 Well into my 60s and I am the father figure for an 18 and 11 year old. To quote from Lethal Weapon, I'm too old for this sh#t. The 11 year old brought my father's day card into the bedroom first thing. Very sweet with original artwork. It was very hard for me not to correct his punctuation.

283 275 Tonypete, another stunt is you log on. You know you gave them the right password, but they reject it two or three times just because. Then when you think you're logged in they hit you with a Captcha and see if you can spot all the tiny fireplugs or whatever in the squares.
