I am far from an expert on it. No, check that, I know little to dick about it. But my understanding was it was when the last hold out areas of the CSA, located in Texas, learned the war was over and slavery was abolished. The celebration was a local Texas thing for many decades. I recall many East Texas relatives who talked about Juneteenth but I never fully caught on what they were talking about. My understanding was everyone celebrated it, it was a happy time to spend with friends, family, and your town.

They were in a serious situation and the last thing they wanted was a bunch of people following them around.

Many don't know that MO was anything but a loyal Union state. It didn't secede, but only because Lincoln's troops reached Jefferson City before the vote. MO had many battles of the War Between the States fought here. I'm not sure the portion of dead in the state, because we don't generally whine about it. It was always taught (outside MO, as I didn't grow up here) as kind of fence-sitting, but I'd bet it wasn't.

So really it is about an event in Galveston Texas that happened in June of 1865. So it wasn't when slavery was declared ended in the CSA. It wasn't when 90 percent of slaves were freed, and it wasn't when the last slaves were freed. But other than that, it was the day slavery ended in the USA.
Even with that said, it is a well known local holiday in parts of Texas. It people want to celebrate it, all power to them. I always support freedom. But can we get a tiny bit of historical learning out of it?

I suspect cotton balls were placed in drug bottle to keep the tablets from rattling around and breaking up. They no longer put them in the bottles for two reasons, the pills are much tougher and not subject to much breakage and the cotton balls actually pulled moisture into the bottle.

personally I am not a big fan. I know many in MO were pro CSA. The James Younger Gang, Quantrill and many others. I am not demeaning them but that area was pretty sad imo. It was most people attacking their neighbors. I know a lot of history and some good movies have been done about those battles. I am more mainline in the areas of that war I study. But no doubt that area spilled a lot of blood. Hell, Maryland wasn't loyal either until the right people got put away with no due process.

The MSWs started going to the trainings that the CIS people, the doctors and nurses and mental health techs attended. Well they hated that and started showing up with doctor's notes to escape the training ( you had to practice self defense and learn restraint techniques). Anyway, they decided to go for verbal interventions instead, and one got punched...and that was the end of that.

Well since it is on a Saturday this year, I doubt it much matters if the NYSE will close on Juneteenth 2021. Sure it is the channel that covers the NYSE but who cares at this point. No I get it, many places closed on the 18th to make sure everyone knew they were closing for the new holiday.

Basically, it's 3 things:
1) Democrats had the poo scared out of them by what looked to be before "The Late Night Miracle" 20%+ Black voting for President Trump if that became a thing the Dims would rarely win a legit election for a long time. Fortunately, they had the Reps to help them.
2) The Reps now see the hope of a big sweep in 2022. But, they've thrown away any reason for 90% of their voters to vote for them by helping to dump President Trump. They know Wine Moms won't vote for "racists" so anything the Dims want that they can label opposition to as "racist" will get passed. This is an old Dim pre-ellection trick.
3) Fits in with the current E-E-Evil White People narrative cuz EWPs have been supressing this great and important day thru their E-E-E-evil White Peopleness. It's a Texas thing and the Texas thing was fun and a celebration for all. The national thing run by leftists I'm sure will be all racial hatred and grim sackcloth and ashes

Fort Michilimackinac is located at the northern tip of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The Fort served as a trading post with access to the St. Lawrence River and the Upper Great Lakes. It was constructed by the French in 1715 and later abandoned in 1783. In 1761, the French garrison left the Mackinac Straits after British troops arrived. The French had encouraged the Ojibwe Tribe to get rid of the English. On June 2nd in 1763 the Native Americans played a game of baaga'adowe (similar to modern day lacrosse) as the British watched. However, the game was staged to divert attention from the attack the fort in what is now known as the Massacre of Michilimackinac.

so now AC is getting tough. i am sure the parents will have no clue what to do because theirs didn't know either. I recall in the 80s the place was like Beruit. If you wanted to go the Casinos you had to travel through an awful bunch of blocks. It was quite the deterrent really. If they had managed to make the place at least reasonable, the casinos would have done much better. Then again, the casinos were allowed in only on the idea they would fix the place. yeah, that happened.

Yep, it was basically just a local event, which is why it's stupid to make it a federal holiday.
But it's been a pet project of the left for many years now. When Obama was running (incompetently) the Annenberg Education Challenge in Chicago, which basically just consisted of him giving away other peoples' money, he used some of the grants to pay for "Juneteenth" parties in Chicago schools. Obama never explained how having black public school kids in Chicago celebrate the fact that over a century ago some TX slaves were freed by Union troops in TX would help improve education in Chicago schools.
I guess it's one of those "black" things that we "white privileged" folks can't understand. Because we're linear thinkers who believe that if your problem is that you are an 8th-grade black kid who hasn't yet mastered 2nd grade math and reading skills, perhaps your time would be better spent learning those skills, rather than partying about something that happened to people long dead, in TX, over a century ago.

I think it is likely. But no way the Fed Gov would allow itself to be surrounded. Same reason why NOVA was technically a no go zone other than for Mosby and his raiders. Manassas was where the CSA felt capable of a legit defense. There were many logistical reasons for that, and it is no coincidence there were two major battles there.

Thanks very much, Salty. However, Jessie is still with us, God bless her. Jessie is our organist. This was our pianist/treasurer who died. Jessie would be the age to be Linda's mother. I stopped by the tell her after Linda died because she lives in the town where the hospital and I didn't want to tell people by e-mail.She was naturally quite upset. They were buddy musicians and used to play for each other when the other one is out of town. She said that she would play for Linda's funeral; It must be hard playing for some many years after the death of friends.
