Scientist Admits: We Concealed Our Knowledge That a Lab Leak Was Likely Because We Didn't Want to be "Associated With Trump"

When they say "Trust Science," what they really mean, of course, is Trust Scientists.

Should we trust scientists? Should we treat them as if they are not fallible humans, given to bigotries, hatreds, and political agendas, but instead lab-coated earthbound angels sent by God Himself to rectify us?

No. Why no, we should not do that.

Chan was one of 18 scientists who published a letter in the journal Science last month calling for a more in-depth investigation into the virus's origin that takes into account theories about both natural occurrence and laboratory spillovers. The letter helped kick-start a new round of calls to investigate the "lab leak hypothesis," including demands from President Joe Biden and several leading scientists.

And while public discussion of a potential lab leak has shifted significantly in recent months, as more people pay attention to a theory that was originally promulgated by former President Donald Trump and his followers, the scientific evidence has remained unchanged, according to interviews with five virologists who have experience in microbiology, infectious disease ecology and viral evolution.

...

The shift reflects how some scientists who previously avoided the topic or were quick to dismiss it are grappling with enduring uncertainties about the virus's origin, free from the politicization that clouded such discussions during the Trump administration.

Passive voice.

Who was doing the politicizing?

You might think it was the Holy Scientists hiding evidence from the public just because a man from the opposite party said something true.

But no, the politicization either spontaneously self-assembled, or was due to the Bad Orange Man.

Chan said there had been trepidation among some scientists about publicly discussing the lab leak hypothesis for fear that their words could be misconstrued or used to support racist rhetoric about how the coronavirus emerged. Trump fueled accusations that the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a research lab in the city where the first Covid-19 cases were reported, was connected to the outbreak, and on numerous occasions he called the pathogen the "Wuhan virus" or "kung flu."

"At the time, it was scarier to be associated with Trump and to become a tool for racists, so people didn't want to publicly call for an investigation into lab origins," she said.

Noting that the virus was released by the Chinese government says nothing about Chinese people. Especially about Chinese Americans.

This entire claim -- that to impugn the Chinese government is to impugn Chinese people generally, even those far outside of China -- is actually Chinese government propaganda.

And Americans who are Maoism-curious are happy to spread Communist Chinese government propaganda.

Not The Bee catalogues the statements of many of these Maoist-Curious people, in the Democrat Party and in the media, who were willing, even eager, to spread Chinese Communist Party propaganda to spare China any uncomfortable inquiry.

And that includes NeverTrump, shockingly enough. I know it's hard to believe, given that they never endorse the hard left's view of things!

That one is two-fold problem. Denying any investigation into origins is straight partisanship and CCP loyalty (or terror - and I don't care which).

Denying therapeutic regimens that work - first HCQ+Zinc and later the wildly more effective Ivermectin - is a more complex manifestation of the problem. It involves hatred, partisanship, CCP loyalty, old-fashioned corruption, scientific establishment tyranny, gross incompetence, malicious actions by the public health authorities, and more.

The origins investigation is fairly simple to explain. The suppression of effective therapies is a lot more involved - and far more evil.

163 Though they'll never get the scorn and punishment they deserve, it's good to see how many in the left are now willing to admit how they were happy to kill people by the thousands all to hurt Trump.

They'll look at it as no big deal, while the rest of us with some humanity will see this last year, between denying the origins, criticizing restricted travel from the countries spreading the virus, and demonizing therapies that work, all to get Trump, as on par with other political based mass killings by the USSR, China and the navy in African countries.

We rightfully condemn warlords who starve people to death for political gains, but we've ignored leftist who let hundreds of thousands die from covid all for political gain.

And since Fauci had to dodge the GOF ban, the lab leak occurred in a police state that runs the WHO.

Sort of a perfect storm for coverup possibilities. If the leak had occurred out of Baric's UNC lab instead of WIV, they would have never been able to suppress it as well with the ChicComs on board.

201 >> 95% effectiveness does not mean that a given individual is "95% protected.

The difference between relative and absolute risk reduction is an important one. Pharma always loves to tout the former and not talk too much about the latter if doesn't serve their purposes.

If I have a 50% chance of getting something bad, and there is some preventative treatment that is 95% relative reduction, then that reduces my absolute risk from 50% to 2.5%. That's an absolute risk reduction of 47.5%.

If my chance of getting something is 0.005%, then that same treatment reduces the absolute risk to 0.00025%.

Big, big difference.

The side effects we're seeing now, blood clots and the myocarditis are all likely due to severe reactions to the small amounts of spike protein that leak out into circulation (all the vaccines leak some, this has been proven).

DeSantis - only because, as the Chief Executive of a large state with plenty of liberal opposition, he has more experience going in on how to play the game effectively from day one. Sure, Trump knows better now. He won't make the same mistakes. But he has a tendency to hire poorly - its a mistake that seems to be DNA coded, not something to shake off easily.

DeSantis will never hire someone like 1) the Mooch 2) Steve Bannon 3) Jeff Sessions 4) Omoroso or whatever her name was 5) a marriage conflicted Kellyanne Conway 6) Gen Kelly 6) Gen Mattis 7) Bill Barr Chris Wray or anyone else connected with Bush's old regime, Obama's regime or anyone else's regime that was part of the problem all along...its not in DeSantis' DNA to bring into his inner circle basket cases and egotistical fools that will confound his efforts at every turn.

Yea, I view DeSantis as the next evolution of Trump.

Trump had the right ideology of conservative populism and anti-globalism, but he just stepped into shit too many times. And he really surrounded himself with idiots.

318 Will Juneteenth be the new Kwanza? Cultural appropriation means not even allies can celebrate it or market off it. Hallmark can probably make cards that say "Congrats, you are not a slave...just like Your parent and grandparents and great grandparents weren't." Maybe we can finally get rid of Washington's Birthday /Lincoln's birthday/Presidents' Day and move the white sheet sales to Juneteenth.

323 >> What is it specifically with this mRNA vaccine's resultant memory cells that causes their longevity to be so much shorter than normal?

This is very complicated business. The immune system is very complex. I MEGLO.

It has to do with binding vs neutralizing antibodies. The mRNA shots make your body produce antibodies to the spike protein, not the whole virus. There is a difference in the natural immunity vs vaccine antibody "package" produced.

Binding antibodies are much higher than neutralizing antibodies produced by the mRNA vaccines. This is a problem. Binding types only bind, they do not kill it (and can make it worse).

They are basing this booster thing on that ratio. After time, the antibody levels fall off, and you're left with just binding ones.

327 > US military stumped by a box of armor-piercing grenades stolen, other reports of scores of missing military weapons

Want to know something really scary? The military and the police lose stuff all the time.

When my dad was in the Air Force, a plane dropped a nuke on the tarmac on takeoff and nobody noticed until some Airman was doing his rounds and spotted the thing.

Cops leave their guns on toilets or in unlocked cars.

I remember one time at Ft Lewis, the entire base got locked down for a week because a pair of highly classified night vision goggles went missing.

Now, other vaccines in use for a long time require boosters themselves. I do not know why some produce good memory for life and others do not.

Like I said, the immune system is a very complex system.

333 What is it specifically with this mRNA vaccine's resultant memory
cells that causes their longevity to be so much shorter than normal?

So the theory is that messenger rna turn the body's cells into tiny vaccine making factories. I don't think they really know how long the factories stay open, but probably until the next depression when messengers lose their jobs without any back pay. Then they get angry.
