North Korean Defector Complains of Brainwashing and Thought-Control at Columbia University: "Even North Korea Isn't This Nuts"

Her name is Yoenmi Park. ("Yun-mee," I think it's pronounced.)

She escaped totalitarian mind control and relentless anti-American brainwashing in 2007.

Or so she believed.

As American educational institutions continue to be called into question, a North Korean defector fears the United States' future "is as bleak as North Korea" after she attended one of the country's most prestigious universities.

Yeonmi Park has experienced plenty of struggle and hardship, but she does not call herself a victim.

One of several hundred North Korean defectors settled in the United States, Park, 27, transferred to Columbia University from a South Korean university in 2016 and was deeply disturbed by what she found.

"I expected that I was paying this fortune, all this time and energy, to learn how to think. But they are forcing you to think the way they want you to think," Park said in an interview with Fox News. "I realized, wow, this is insane. I thought America was different but I saw so many similarities to what I saw in North Korea that I started worrying."

Those similarities include anti-Western sentiment, collective guilt and suffocating political correctness.

Yeonmi saw red flags immediately upon arriving at the school.

During orientation, she was scolded by a university staff member for admitting she enjoyed classic literature such as Jane Austen.

"I said ' love those books.' I thought it was a good thing," recalled Park.

"Then she said, 'Did you know those writers had a colonial mindset? They were racists and bigots and are subconsciously brainwashing you.'"

It only got worse from there as Yeonmi realized that every one of her classes at the Ivy League school was infected with what she saw as anti-American propaganda, reminiscent to the sort she had grown up with.

"’American Bastard' was one word for North Koreans" Park was taught growing up.

"The math problems would say 'there are four American bastards, you kill two of them, how many American bastards are left to kill?'"

She was also shocked and confused by issues surrounding gender and language, with every class asking students to announce their preferred pronouns.

"English is my third language. I learned it as an adult. I sometimes still say 'he' or 'she' by mistake and now they are going to ask me to call them 'they'? How the heck do I incorporate that into my sentences?"

"It was chaos," said Yeonmi. "It felt like the regression in civilization."

"Even North Korea is not this nuts," she admitted. "North Korea was pretty crazy, but not this crazy."

After getting into a number of arguments with professors and students, eventually Yeonmi "learned how to just shut up" in order to maintain a good GPA and graduate.

In North Korea, Yeonmi Park did not know of concepts like love or liberty.

"Because I have seen oppression, I know what it looks like," said Yeonmi, who by the age of 13 had witnessed people drop dead of starvation right before her eyes.

"These kids keep saying how they’re oppressed, how much injustice they've experienced. They don't know how hard it is to be free," she admonished.

"I literally crossed through the middle of the Gobi Desert to be free. But what I did was nothing, so many people fought harder than me and didn't make it."

A friend raved about Jordan Peterson's interview of this literally Stunning and Brave North Korean escapee. I haven't listened to it yet, but I will this weekend.

22 They're different crazy and I think she likely has no context for it. The DPRK is a hard-core, originalist interpretation of Stalinism. The madness with which she was familiar was Stalinist madness, which is derived neatly from original Marxism.

What she got in the American university was not Stalinism, but Maoism. Maoism is also communist, but takes a different approach and is far more focused on total social and mental/intellectual control in order to bring about continuous cultural revolution. This requires the kind of ludicrous commitment to the ever-shifting narrative, use of humiliation and shame and social pressure, self-denunciation, constant erosion, etc.

Stanlism has a different methodology because it has a different goal (the permanent continuation of Stalinism).

Nobody can teach you to "think". They can give you facts, which you can learn to repeat. And thats OK - if you don't understand the 3x4 is just 3+3+3+3 - you can just memorize that shit and live a good life.

But you don't understand it. And it does not matter one fucking bit if you memorized it at Harvard or Yale or a local community college or at your public library.

How easy - how simple - life would be if making your kids smart was as easy as writing a big check. Everyone would write that check if they could. Smart doesn't have shit to do with the check, though, now does it.

this is a lie. I was just screaming about this.

Obviously i'm anticensorship, but if I were pro-censorship, I would not staff the censorship boards with such absolute empty-headed know-nothings. the twitter thot police saw someone lefty making a claim like this and immediately decided, "That defends the Democrats, that must be true!"
And they declared it true. Only: It's not true. It's not true at all.

There is no "federal law" saying that a cooperating witness is immune to conspiracy charges. It's up the prosecutor. The people who would be immune are federal PLANTS, because they didn't have the mens rea to actually carry out the crime. (PResumably-- though that, too, might change based on circumstances.)
No one is "immune" from charges based on cooperation. This is a deal worked out case-by-case with prosecutors.

I think tucker's point was basically that the 1/6 peaceful demonstration was organized by informants/agents. He said that it turns out that a lot of terror prosecutions were the same way. It made him reconsider this tactic which is to organize others to have peaceful demonstratioons (or to try to assassinate pamela gelar) in order to arrest people who participated only because the fbi recruited them.

I've said before that as patently ridiculous and illegitimate as the Biden junta reveals itself to be on a daily basis, the only thing holding it in power is its de facto monopoly on armed force (or at least on armed formations at a high state of readiness).

If multiple states begin effectively challenging/obstructing its ability to enforce its decrees, that's when things officially become lit.

Columbia is the Weakest Link in the Ivy League

NO ONE wants to end up only getting into columbia... I know kids who tried for almost all the Ivies and got only Columbia - they are going to honors colleges at good state schools instead

so, when the "ooh it's an Ivy" wears off of the Haute Bourgeoisie, which btw it is definitely doing right now, columbia is gonna suffer the most from that. because no one wants their kid to go there.

it's happening, and it's happening fast. prep school kids talk, their parents talk ... the bloom is definitely off the "ivy league" rose around here.

smaller LACs are popular, but really the good state colleges with well-regarded Honors programs are what everyone is after now. (and Princeton, which everyone does still love)

Postmodernism - especially when hybridized with Critical Theory (which is also, perversely, arguably one of its intellectual offspring) - lets you have your cake and eat it, too. While you're eating your cake, it also enshrines the incrementalist approach to overthrow so that you can socially construct infinite cake if you just complete the isolate->criticize->reform loop enough times.

It is entirely faith-based and its outputs are put in material terms. It is an unknowable, dark, mysterious premise that - if you just adhere to it zealously enough - provides utopian perfection in real, material, in-this-life, on-this-planet terms. That is a extremely powerful combination and it ticks a lot of boxes. It is essentially a massively powerful perverse religion that leads to its to its own ecstasy.

Inquiring about this very plausible possibility -- which would be totally consistent with the FBI's past activity -- doesn't equal declaring Jan 6 to have been a "false flag." That's just a non sequitur designed to discourage further inquiry

Of course. Critical Theory replaces "bourgeoisie" with "oppressor" and "proletariat" with "oppressed." Then it generalizes and operates on all fronts, with economic structure (the core of Marxism) only one facet and not even a particularly important one. And it is enabled to a large extent by PoMo philosophy, since its methods depend on social constructionism as its driving force in order to apply pressure on all those fronts on the quest for utopia (a utopia that, will of course, be constructed by their actions by changing the social fabric and thus its constructions).

Not really. Engineering stopped caring about which school you are from decades ago. Stanford and MIT degrees get you nothing in the industry now.

There are too many openings in the field, and too much need for true experience in specialized fields that are not taught in any college. The way engineering works is you get new grads from any decent engineering college, usually the closest state university, then you train them.

The real money is when you have legit skills in the specialty field and leverage that in either your current company or a different company into the middle level (much higher paying) positions.

The FBI admitted its intimate involvement in orchestrating the supposed "militia" kidnapping plot against Michigan Gov. Whitmer. Is it really that implausible that the FBI could've engaged in the same activity with the "militia" groups involved in the Jan 6 goofball riot?

Inquiring about this very plausible possibility -- which would be totally consistent with the FBI's past activity -- doesn't equal declaring Jan 6 to have been a "false flag." That's just a non sequitur designed to discourage further inquiry

I was dating the most gorgeous, kind, young Christian woman when I was in the Delayed Enlistment Program, or whatever it was called. She was everything I wasn't.

Ship day came and while we were waiting to sign the real papers *they* released us from the Reserve contract, or whatever, and said, "Don't none of you turds go nowhere." Well, at that exact time and moment, I realized that I was not under contract to anyone.

I thought about bolting. Then I thought how disappointed and disturbed my dad would be with me, so....

I have regrets, and if I had it to do all over again, there is no chance in hell I'd serve again. All that angst just to end up suffering angst for not bailing. All I did was silhouette myself against the skyline for being a veteran. I don't see anybody mustering for this shit, so it was a total waste of time.

To Jim's point, I think this is the real reason they got so freaked about Jan. 6. As long as things work like they do, they can infiltrate and suppress any organized resistance with relative ease. But let's say for arguments sake, that a civil demonstration like January 6 were to catch fire in a given city and become widespread.

That ability immediately evaporates. And shitloads of people are armed, and if they want to organize spontaneously, nothing would stop it. They are terrified of a Berlin '53 or Budapest '56 scenario unfolding in the US, where it would be way worse. They might not be able to put it back under control. And the idea of Party men hanging from lampposts in an endless version of the Budapest nightmare haunts them.

I was able to contact several people in my family I barely knew of and become closer to them through social media. An aunt in Denmark contacted me and got closer to my mom and her sisters through my blog when I wrote about my astounding grandfather from Denmark.

But overall its influence and affect on me was negative, and I wish I'd never even seen Twitter. Little good came of it. I read about using social media to create a "platform" and generate customers for your books but I don't think I sold half a dozen in all the years and thousands of followers I had on Facebook and Twitter.

Seriously I had like 5k followers on Twitter. Didn't mean a thing.

And When and where did any gun control law protect anyone from being shot/killed with a gun?

Why do they think this new law they've thought up will do any better?

Do they realize that criminals don't obey the law? I would guess they don't even KNOW the laws. They may know in general that they can't buy a gun from a gun store. But they don't care.

Just once have someone with some grit ask these fools how a law will stop a criminal. We're begging to know as so many other laws could use their ideas. Whole prisons would empty out because criminals would start to obey the law. I know the argument is that you don't keep from making a law because no one obeys it but then what's the point?

Heh, heh. The Fed has been insisting that the red-hot inflation numbers are just transitory. Well, today they blinked a little bit, with the "dot plots" saying, well, maybe we're considering thinking about considering maybe tightening and raising rates just a little bit maybe by 2023.

That was enough to cause bond yields to spike and stocks to puke. Dollar spiked up, and gold took a hit.

J-Pow had to try to save the day by saying, "take the dot plots with a grain of salt".

If the Fed stops the free money printing circus, then everything is going to crash.

Should have let the fat fuck die.

299 Hard to say if Winwood was better solo than with the various bands he was in, but I sure like his solo stuff. A lot.

It may be that there's no way out now. Rates have to go up, and go up a lot. If they allow themselves to lose control of inflation, they will lose control of real interest rates. The Fed discount rate will be meaningless outside of the Treasury market. Then things get noisy fast and with little control.

They've dug a mighty deep hole and they may have finally run themselves out of options. Time will tell.

326 Not just law, any of the truly competitive firms in the top fields require the right school. Accounting, Business, and Engineering for example.

I often wonder - how much are they paid to make their fuck-ups ? Serious question. I know how much they pay to fix them.

Are these firms really competitive ? I think they just ride the inertia.
