The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Gee, this sounds great! And in a sane (Trump) world we could confidently hope that these weapons would be developed and deployed to counter the looming threat of Chinese expansionism.

But we don't live in a sane world, and in fact it's bat-shit crazy. There is no political will in the corridors of power to push back against China when those corridors are filled with grifting traitors whose only desires are power and money, and if those things come from the Chinese in exchange for neutering our armed forces? Well, that's how omelets are made!

Army Long Range Strike Gives China A Taste of Its Own Medicine

In a nutshell, the Army wants to place mobile, long-range missile and extended-range artillery batteries on Pacific islands and perhaps in Japan and South Korea. The missiles and artillery rounds are "smart" — meaning precise.

Should China attack, the Army's missile fire would complement other long-range attacks to destroy Chinese ballistic missiles, air bases, coastal defenses and even warships.

With China's long-range fires "softened up," Navy carrier battle groups head west and, along with Air Force airstrikes, deliver the counterattack: perhaps the coup de grace to China's communist dictatorship.

That's a pipe dream. First of all, China will invade Taiwan long before it attacks American interests or America. Second, the current illegitimate occupants of the White House who are calling the shots (whoever they may be) have no interest in confronting China. They will obfuscate and blubber the usual nonsense, go to the UN for a strong condemnation that will be vetoed by the security council (China has a vote!), and ultimately China will conquer and consume a long-time thorn in its side...a free Chinese country just off its coast.

China owns large and influential segments of our society, and until we drive them back, we and the free world will never be safe. But please...don't hold your breath...it isn't happening anytime soon.

Yeah, this won't happen. I doubt the Army actually wants this, either.

It is a strategically interesting thought experiment, though. This sort of the opposite of conventional wisdom for war in the Pacific. Traditionally, you use your naval and air power to soften up the target, making way for the army. This is using fixed army positions to soften up the target, making way for naval and air power. It's an interesting thought for that theater.

But it is nothing more than an interesting thought. The powers that be aren't interested in threatening (let along fighting) China, and China both isn't interested in being threatened and owns our powers that be.

The downside to "smart" is that it requires fairly significant infrastructure. We have that infrastructure, but we don't know (or don't talk about, anyway) the vulnerabilities in that infrastructure. A smart missile that can hit a target very precisely is great, but it requires a constellation of satellites and various communications in order to find its own ass. If something happens to those comms or that constellation, it's pointless.

Completed products, not since the early 2000s. Components, yes. TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation) makes the important chips for Apple, Microsoft, AMD, and Nvidia. Which are assembled into products on mainland China in all 4 cases.

This is true. And it's wonderful. We have so many people to thank, we barely know where to begin. We thank mom and dad, obviously. We also thank the globalist theory men who laid the groundwork. We definitely need to thank the World Trade Organization, and especially Bill Clinton for helping us out with that *and* giving us Most Favored Nation status. Those things helped a ton. We also thank Western business executives who were tempted by our domestic markets into giving us their intellectual capital and their industrial jobs base. We really couldn't have done it without you.

There are so very many more people to thank, but we just don't have time. You know who you are, and you know that we love you.

Thank you again. So very, very, very much. We are thrilled to receive this high - albeit deserved - honor.

50 I really don't believe that we have anything to worry about CCP military arms. If they're as well-constructed as their consumer goods, I think that they'd probably sink on the way to Taiwan.

On the other hand, I believe we have a lot to worry about regarding our side. Between the defenestration of the pro-Trump brass, and CRT and Woke politics indoctrination attempting to infect the enlisted group, as well as the fecklessness of the FICUS, we'd never be able to muster enough will to confront the CCP anyway.

Arguably worse in the CCP case, since Russian infrastructure seems to actually stay together, whereas Chinese building/bridge/road/dam collapses are kind of a regular event. Yeah, I have the same general opinion of CCP military hardware as I do of Russian military hardware. Arguably worse in the CCP case, since Russian infrastructure seems to actually stay together

Especially since a lot of ChiCom military hardware is just cheap knock-offs of Russkie gear. One thing that's hilarious is the ChiCom attempts to make a decent jet engine. They consistently are underpowered for their weight and fuel consumption, and are so unreliable that they need major rebuilds at less than 100 hours of operation, compared to the 400-600 hours of Russian stuff, and 1000+ of US engines.

As a result, the ChiComs constantly have to go buy engines from the Slavs to keep their planes in the air.

To a point. It is something I have been thinking about recently, and I don't have an answer. But if it does come to war with China (I don't think it will), how open a target is China's mass population? The only recent conflict where this was a question is WWII. There is a strong argument to be made that in the context of mutual total existential war, there are non-combatants but there actually no civilians.

What of China today? It would be a bit different. China is a slave slate. Is slaughtering your enemy's slaves to fight the slave owners a morally acceptable condition? I don't know. I've been thinking about it a lot, though.

Russia has a culture of drunken sloth, but China has a culture of corruption and power grabbing at any cost. Taking half the budget to pay on hookers and bootleg western products then doing shoddy work to cover it up is the Chinese way.

That's the origin of their social credit score stuff, they recognize the corruption is top to bottom and its so bad they are trying to come up with a way to use state power to stop it.

The examples are somewhat hilarious but very numerous. Buildings literally falling over, bridges coming a part revealing they were a thin layer of concrete over random garbage (literally trash), etc.

It was well written, and his longing for Helen seemed to be influenced by his lack of longing for Roberta, and fear that he'd never find anyone he "longed for". 156 China would love to own the supply lines for everything. As it is now, over 50 percent of container shipping, those big commercial ships, utilize the shipping facilities along the Yangtze River... which is where the 3 Gorges Dam is located. If that supply chain is broken you can kiss the US economy good bye for a very long time. It would make the issues we just went through as a result of the COVID restrictions and the shortages look puny in comparison.

USGOV already signed a 2.5 Billion supply agreement for it even though its not finished Phase III trials.

214 slaughtering your enemy's slaves to fight the slave owners a morally acceptable condition?

I've been reading about the Battle Aachen, the first major German city to fall to the Allies. The Nazi Gauleiter issued an evacuation order for the civilians which read in part . . .

"Our children's eyes, which want to see a future, remind us to resist with all means to the last breath. The voices of the many hundreds of thousands who remained on the battlefields for the honor and freedom of our Fatherland, or those who lost their lives to enemy terror bombing, are calling us. The spirits of the heroes of liberty of our glorious history shake us, so that we do not weaken or become cowards during the decisive part of the fight for our existence!"

The appeal to honor, freedom, and liberty seems a might misplaced but then he also said . . .

"Whoever disturbs measures of the evacuation, or tries to refuse to join the withdrawal, not only puts himself in deadly danger, but has to be considered a traitor against the public community and dealt with accordingly."

That's more like the Nazi we've come to know!

216 Justice Stephen Breyer wrote for the court that the states and people who filed a federal lawsuit "have failed to show that they have standing to attack as unconstitutional the Act's minimum essential coverage provision."
In dissent, Alito wrote, "Today's decision is the third installment in our epic Affordable Care Act trilogy, and it follows the same pattern as installments one and two. In all three episodes, with the Affordable Care Act facing a serious threat, the Court has pulled off an improbable rescue." Alito was a dissenter in the two earlier cases, as well.
Like Alito, Justice Clarence Thomas was in dissent in the two earlier cases, but he joined Thursday's majority, writing, "Although this Court has erred twice before in cases involving the Affordable Care Act, it does not err today."

217 One of the few things James Carville ever let escape from his pie hole that was sensible was "It's the economy stupid". The deep state and the world economy folks would dearly love to destroy what we have as an economy and the quickest way to do it is a red hot shootin' war. I'm not talking Iranian Chris Crafts attacking the USN, or Israel protecting her people. A good multi national dust up, say India gets it on with the Paks, China aids the Paks, and while nobody is looking, the sooner than later Taiwan invasion begins. Those steely eyed investors would show the world their lily liver.

On the other hand, what would be the effect of attacking the three gorges dam with a dirty nuke? You not only eliminate the dam, but you also spread the dangerous material through the resultant flooding. That would be horrific. *shudder*

293 43 So now that Juneteenth is going to be a national holiday, how long before it's appropriated by whites the same way Cinco De Mayo and St. Patrick's day were?
____________

It's stupid to make Juneteenth a national holiday anyway, since it's the anniversary of the date (June 19, 1865) that a Union Army general signed an order proclaiming freedom for slaves in just one state: Texas.

President Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation several years earlier, outlawing slavery in all the Confederate states, including Texas. Problem was there weren't enough Union troops in TX to enforce Lincoln's order, which is why it was another few years before the Union general showed up to make it official and enforce it.

So why is the entire nation going to have a holiday celebrating the end of slavery in just one state -- TX?

Slavery in all the states didn't end until Dec., 1865, with the ratification of the 13th Amendment. (Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation only outlawed slavery in the Confederate states; it was still legal and ongoing in Union border states like DE and KY until the 13th Amendment was ratified).

294 I always assumed it was supposed to affect electronics that were actually running a current, so anything turned off would be unaffected.

As I understand it, capacitors and batteries can wreak havoc on idle and switched off electronics but to what degree is largely untested and there's always weird random factors like atmospheric conditions, a piece of tin foil acting as a cage, and just crazy random stuff.

I mean and EMP would suck because it would knock out enough infrasturcture to shut down power and the internet and blow up nearly everyone's phones, etc. But some stuff would still work. Particularly older stuff.

The way I understood the principle (and I am not an expert) is that the electromagnetic field can induce a current in unshielded wire. This can cause a power surge, which then could fry electronics or even anything that can 'burn out' like an electric motor or circuit.

Again, this is just how I understood it and I could be wrong.

I think there is an unstated rule in courts that's like umpires in baseball where if you make a really bad call, you can make a good call that isn't quite kosher to make up for it. Getting it catastrophically and stupidly wrong on Obamacare in the previous two decisions could have been made up here.

299 I always assumed it was supposed to affect electronics that were actually running a current, so anything turned off would be unaffected.

In the test I mentioned earlier, some cars that were running while hit did sometimes glitch, but some just kept going fine.

Something like 10 years ago there was news that police would be using EMP generators in their cars to stop chases, and then it just didn't happen. My guess is the potential liability of e.g. causing someone's throttle-by-wire to go nuts caused government lawyers to say "are you fucking kidding me?", in addition to the fact that it wouldn't always actually work.

314 Juneteenth comes down to this: everyone celebrates all these "white" holidays, we need a "black" holiday besides MLK jr day to balance things out!

The flaws with this are multitude. First off American holidays are American, not white or black. Second, Juneteenth is a goofy idea for a holiday as many have pointed out, to the point of being nearly insulting to blacks. Third, what's the quota here, do we have 12% of our holidays be specifically "black only" holidays? Half?

__________

If they wanted a national day to celebrate the end of slavery, it would have made a lot more sense to have it in December, to mark the ratification of the 13th Amendment. That made slavery illegal in every state.

But December already has Christmas and NYE so it's too inconvenient for another federal holiday, so instead they chose Juneteenth, so they can have a June holiday.

The fact that it makes no sense to have a "national" holiday celebrating the end of slavery in TX didn't matter.

Just another excuse to have a paid day off. And the fact that they can make it an official "hate whitey" day was an added bonus.

So far, Roberts has held the court together in a march of unanimous (or nearly unanimous) opinions, likely due to the threat of court packing. How long Roberts can pull this off is anyone's guess, but so far, he's held the "conservative" majority to it. That Roberts is able to pull it off shows he has sufficient internal cache with both sides, which is frustrating, given his weasel nature.

Maybe things will change in 2022 if the GOP re-takes the Senate and the threat of court packing subsides.
