Wall Street Journal: Proof of Covid's Creation in a Lab Are Encoded Into Its Very Genetic Sequencing
But the most compelling reason to favor the lab leak hypothesis is firmly based in science. In particular, consider the genetic fingerprint of CoV-2, the novel coronavirus responsible for the disease Covid-19. In gain-of-function research, a microbiologist can increase the lethality of a coronavirus enormously by splicing a special sequence into its genome at a prime location. Doing this leaves no trace of manipulation. But it alters the virus spike protein, rendering it easier for the virus to inject genetic material into the victim cell. Since 1992 there have been at least 11 separate experiments adding a special sequence to the same location. The end result has always been supercharged viruses. A genome is a blueprint for the factory of a cell to make proteins. The language is made up of three-letter "words," 64 in total, that represent the 20 different amino acids. For example, there are six different words for the amino acid arginine, the one that is often used in supercharging viruses. Every cell has a different preference for which word it likes to use most. In the case of the gain-of-function supercharge, other sequences could have been spliced into this same site. Instead of a CGG-CGG (known as "double CGG") that tells the protein factory to make two arginine amino acids in a row, you'll obtain equal lethality by splicing any one of 35 of the other two-word combinations for double arginine. If the insertion takes place naturally, say through recombination, then one of those 35 other sequences is far more likely to appear; CGG is rarely used in the class of coronaviruses that can recombine with CoV-2. In fact, in the entire class of coronaviruses that includes CoV-2, the CGG-CGG combination has never been found naturally. That means the common method of viruses picking up new skills, called recombination, cannot operate here. A virus simply cannot pick up a sequence from another virus if that sequence isn't present in any other virus.
So: CGG is a rare "word" in the genetic lexicon in coronaviruses-- at least, in naturally-occurring coronavirues. Further, it has no means of "picking up" this word from another virus, as other viruses don't have this genetic word in their vocabularies. But guess where CGG is not rare at all?!! Do you have your guess? Then collect your winnings.
Because the lab leak hypothesis is the lab leak fact - and they knew this, and they ran yet another information op against the American public (and American scientists) to bully them into frightened silence. This post discusses the coming political earthquake, when the government and media are forced to admit what is obvious: that the lab-leak is not only possible, but is in fact the only sensible explanation for covid.
Although the double CGG is suppressed naturally, the opposite is true in laboratory work. The insertion sequence of choice is the double CGG. That's because it is readily available and convenient, and scientists have a great deal of experience inserting it. An additional advantage of the double CGG sequence compared with the other 35 possible choices: It creates a useful beacon that permits the scientists to track the insertion in the laboratory. Now the damning fact. It was this exact sequence that appears in CoV-2. Proponents of zoonotic origin must explain why the novel coronavirus, when it mutated or recombined, happened to pick its least favorite combination, the double CGG. Why did it replicate the choice the lab's gain-of-function researchers would have made?
The Biden administration would then be under excruciating pressure to adopt an extremely hardline policy toward Beijing.... Perceptions that covid began in a Chinese virology lab, though, would compel the White House to adopt even stronger, more confrontational, measures.... Biden's allies in Congress and the mainstream media likely would find themselves under ferocious attack as well. The earlier attempt to stifle debate and exonerate the PRC government from any responsibility for the onset or spread of covid would be in danger of backfiring spectacularly. Critics might even question whether that campaign was merely an error born of rabid, unthinking hostility toward any position the Trump administration embraced, or whether more nefarious motives--including financial ties to the Chinese government--played a role.
And so, preparing for that day of reckoning, the entire media is echoing the claim of Chris Wallace of the "fair and balanced" "news" channel Fox -- It's all Trump's fault that the media lied and claimed there was no chance the virus came from a Fauci-funded lab! He tricked them into propagandizing for the PRC and silencing people through Neo-McCarthyite witch hunting!

There has been speculation regarding whether this release was intentional rather than accidental. It almost doesn't matter.
The engineered virus was the product of a bioweapons program intended to produce viruses that eventually would be released, most likely a whole series of releases. China would always be one step ahead of everyone else. This work continues.
And, the Chinese, and 'our' government, behaved exactly as they would if this were intentional. Chinese kept quiet and maximized worldwide infection, and the US politicians made full use of it for their purposes.
I think it was a premature accidental release caused by typical mainland China indifference to safety. In a way it's fortunate -- it has revealed the long term plan to the public. Elements of our government already knew; it's not news to them, they're in on it.

My mother died with symptoms of the virus in early Feb 2020, right on the edge of the public's awareness and authorities' acknowledgement of Covid. Her ICU doctor told us we can't know for sure if it was the virus that killed her or not.

I once was hired to commercialize a technology developed at a national lab. In reviewing one process step and coming up with commercial design, I argued that we needed interlocks to prevent it from blowing up and killing people. The experts who had experience at the lab said I was foolish, and that it was physically impossible, and that I didn't know what I was talking about -- an interlock was not necessary. I put one in anyway.
Well, a few months later I found out that years earlier, that technology had blown up and killed a technician in exactly the way I predicted. They knew this, but at that time they argued it was the technician's fault and not their Phd ass who had screwed up.
So given the chance to prevent the same error in a version sold to the outside world, they doubled down rather than admit that they had been lax in the past.

I was pretty much decided I'd go for the vaccine. Until my FIL got his second shot, landed in the hospital a few days later with internal bleeding, and is now in hospice, unable to care for himself. From a working ranch stiff to invalid in 3 days.
Coincidence? Ok, he's 82. But it really does give one pause. Or, at least me. My MIL however seems to be just fine.

Walk me through the logistics of that, would you? So China is working on a lethal something. Somehow we get intimate details of that. We anticipate they might release it on us, so we come up with a daring plan to release a very similar, but less lethal version that somehow cancels out the more lethal strain? Then we manage to create a less lethal strain that does just that. Then we happen to find out that China's very lethal strain got released and figure out which of our less lethal cancel out viruses to release and we do that.
All while the WHO is denying human to human transmissibility and Trump is trying to get his travel restriction and Pelosi is telling people to eat out Chinese girls to prove you're not racist?
Sounds kinda implausible.

There is/was no reason to believe that an engineered virus would behave much differently than the many other potentially deadly ones that are endemic and have been studied out the wazoo. In an abundance of caution, at the start, extreme measures were adopted, *even though science and observational history do not support their efficacy* ("mitigation" - lockdowns, etc).
But it fairly soon became clear that the "novel" aspects of this bug did not extend beyond symptoms and mortality to things like transmission. It was effectively like all other respiratory viruses.
But the RESPONSE has been the larger disaster here. And all previous actual science did not justify any of it, it has done enormous damage, and yet most energy and attention are directed elsewhere.

Simplifying greatly, let's just say that 1) novel counting rules 2) a claimed disappearance of influenza 3) "excess death" numbers that aren't as high as they should be = obvious and serious need to completely scrub the C19 mortality figures.
I gave up on all this after soaking deeply in it every day the first 6-7 months. I assume some of the very good data scientists and others who were picking apart the party line from the outset have done a dispositive numbers crunch, but I haven't kept up so can't point to it.

Vega, I had the same experience. The car was literally rusting away in chunks, the engine would diesel for 30 seconds after I shut it off but it just kept running and running. Finally died when some asshole drove it after I had drained the radiator.
One cool thing was the front fenders above the tires would throw out rooster tails if I was driving through some water.

1) We would have known the virus was specifically designed to infect humans. Initially we didn't take it seriously because we didn't assume the virus would be so well adapted. It's why so many countries were slow to respond - they assumed this would be like SARS or MERS - a potential problem, but with a few years while the virus figures out how to infect humans better. The virus exploded out because that part had already been figured out - the virus was pre-adapted.
2) We would have demanded more answers from China.

However, it's a political game. The leftists were able to railroad Flynn. If the Republicans had a spine, and would fight, they'd have strung up Fauci months ago. But they're not on "our team."

Taking a peek through the internets, two things were found. Metro UK had an article from Feb. 27th, 2020, entitled "Coronavirus has an 'HIV-like mutation' which helps it to attack human cells, scientists claim".
Additionally, searching for "Covid HIV virus marker" on Duck Duck Go pointed to an article on "biorxiv.org", titled "Uncanny similarity of unique inserts in the 2019-nCoV spike protein to HIV-1 gp120 and Gag". This one seems to be related, but the abstract itself notes it was "Withdrawn".
But you can view the previous version as "10.1101/2020.01.30.927871v1". Quoting part of the abstract, "We found 4 insertions in the spike glycoprotein (S) which are unique to the 2019-nCoV and are not present in other coronaviruses. Importantly, amino acid residues in all the 4 inserts have identity or similarity to those in the HIV-1 gp120 or HIV-1 Gag." The comments seem to indicate there was a mistake on the researchers' part in that the matching gene sequences aren't from a single HIV instance, but from several different ones.
Could have been junk science, but given what we know now...
