The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“This brutal crime haunted our community. This was never a cold case … we continually investigated.” Naperville Police Chief Robert Marshall said at a press conference Friday.

*

Quote II

“Stop being a perpetual victim, stop preaching victimhood, and stop pushing socialist policies that create government corruption and systemic poverty,”Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA)

*

Quote III

“They want my head now for speaking that truth. I, a lowly priest, apparently have created enemies among some of the hierarchies.” The Rev. James Altman

*

Quote IV

The real reason the elite hated Donald Trump was not that he was an ideological conservative (he only sort of was) or that he tweeted mean things (they like mean tweets, just not ones directed at them). It was that Trump identified the failures of “the best and the brightest” and called them out. There is nothing these experts hate more than challenges to the authority they think they deserve. Kurt Schlichter

*

Quote V

"Ever since I was five years old, I've dreamed of traveling to space. On July 20th, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend." Jeff Bezos

*

Quote VI

“I don’t want her punished. We enjoy seeing a bear come through occasionally. We don’t want them living with us in the yard when we walk out the door.”Gerry Douglas

No shirts, pants or undies needed on bike ride, just a mask

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia bike riders won’t need their shirts, pants, skirts or even underwear — just a mask.

Organizers of the annual Philly Naked Bike Ride say this year’s event will take place Aug. 28 and will require masks, based on the city’s earlier coronavirus restrictions.

The city lifted most of its COVID-19 rules this week, citing an increase in vaccinations and a decrease in cases. But ride organizers said they hadn’t had a chance to chat since the city’s guidelines changed so for the time being, they’re “going to stick with our initial mask guidance.” Lead organizer Wesley Noonan-Sessa said they’ll keep an eye on what the city says in the next month or so.

KAGAN Writes 9-0 Supreme Court Opinion Rejecting Liz Warren's Subversion of Immigration Law

On Monday, the Supreme Court unanimously rejected an illegal immigrant’s attempt to twist immigration law and create a loophole that would allow thousands of illegal immigrants to become lawful permanent residents. Democratic senators and attorneys general advocated for this loophole, but a liberal justice wrote the opinion for a unanimous Court.

“Petitioner Jose Santos Sanchez entered this country unlawfully from El Salvador. Years later, because of unsafe living conditions in that country, the Government granted him Temporary Protected Status (TPS), entitling him to stay and work in the United States for as long as those conditions persist,” Associate Justice Elena Kagan, an Obama appointee, wrote in the opinion. “Sanchez now wishes to become a lawful permanent resident (LPR) of the United States. The question here is whether the conferral of TPS enables him to obtain LPR status despite his unlawful entry. We hold that it does not,”

In Sanchez v. Mayorkas, Kagan noted that U.S. immigration law, “applied according to its plain terms,” “prevents Sanchez from becoming an LPR. There is no dispute that Sanchez ‘entered the United States in the late 1990s unlawfully, without inspection.'”

Several 9-0 SCOTUS decisions recently. Is the court signalling to the Dems on the Hill to forget about packing the court?

This Picture Shows Why No One Wants to Mess With the U.S. Navy

Here's What You Need to Remember: The Flight III upgrade has been centered on the AMDR/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR) system, which can provide improved capability over earlier Arleigh Burke-class vessels as it will enable the latest ships in the class to simultaneously perform Anti-Air Warfare and Ballistic Missile Defense.

U.S. sailors divulged sensitive information while held by Iran: Navy

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. sailors who blundered into Iranian waters in January divulged sensitive information to their captors while held at gunpoint by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a U.S. Navy report said on Thursday.

A stupid criminal? Or just a scumbag who feels at home behind bars? Career criminal who held up two banks with toy gun given life sentence

The court heard he had 32 previous convictions for 131 offences spanning a 34-year period and had previously served at least 29 years behind bars.

Judge Robert Pawson ruled Jarvis was a dangerous offender and said a life term was necessary.

He will serve a minimum of six years and two months behind bars before he can be considered for parole.

Speaking after the sentencing, DC Holly Sexton said: ‘The staff at these banks were just carrying out their jobs when they were faced with the horrifying ordeal of Jason Jarvis making demands for cash and claiming to be armed with a gun.

‘I am glad that through our investigation work we were quickly able to identify Jarvis as the man responsible for these nasty offences so he could face the consequences of his actions.

Certainly not the life I would choose. But, different strokes for different folks.

This family gave up their home, job and school for a nomadic life
Mr and Mrs Iyer and their two kids don’t call one place home and are enjoying every bit of it

In 2019, the Iyer family gave up all worldly pleasures. They sold off their Pune house, car, appliances and furniture to live a nomadic life. Santosh Iyer let go of his lucrative job as an IT professional. Their kids, Hridhaan and Khwahish, gave up school. The family now lives out of four suitcases, and travels all over India, staying for no more than two months in one place.

How could they afford this life? Homeschooling and remote working.

To stay relevant Greta Thunberg continues to utter complete Bull Shit thoughts which come to mind.

She also virtually equated the death of lower lifeforms with that of humans. “Every year we kill more than 60 billion animals, excluding fish, whose numbers are so great that we only measure their lives by weight. What about their thoughts and feelings?” she asked.

Thunberg sounded a more familiar argument when she argued that the prosperous lifestyle of the West will soon cause the entire world to run out of resources. She pinpointed the consumption of meat as a source of carbon dioxide emissions, as well as a huge use of land.

“If we continue, we will run out of land and food,” she said. “If we change toward a plant-based diet, we could save up to 8 billion tons of CO2 every single year. We could feed ourselves on much less land, and nature could recover.”

Tased without effect can mean only one thing. Genius Award Winner.

After causing a disturbance at the drive-thru window, a McDonald’s customer broke the window and crawled through the opening into the restaurant, where he attacked a female manager, according to Florida police.

Investigators allege that My-chael Jordan, 33, was asked to leave the premises of the Pinellas Park eatery around 4 AM Sunday following a flap at the 24-hour drive-thru.

But instead of departing McDonald’s, Jordan, who lives two miles from the restaurant, “broke the drive-thru window, crawled in through the window and grabbed and pushed” the 53-year-old employee.

When cops subsequently confronted Jordan, he allegedly fought with three officers and was “tased multiple times with no effect,” according to an arrest affidavit. “All three officers...suffered scrapes and cuts” during the struggle with Jordan, who allegedly spit on the Pinellas Park Police Department cops.

Jordan showed an “indication of drug influence,” police noted.

'Stop Selling Yourself Short': Woman's Recovery Photo Goes Viral

An Ohio woman's before-and-after recovery photo has been shared by thousands on Facebook, proving there is always time to change your path.

"How about that for motivation? I honestly thought I'd die on a park bench with a needle in my arm or by gunshot to the head. I would've never in a million years thought my life would look the way it does today," Ginny Burton captioned her photo.

The big three had lighter duty affordable pickups in their lineups to supplement their heavy duty lineups but the lighter duties kept getting heavier and their price tags followed.

Currently a decent new pickup can't be had for less than 40k.

So even though the base price point for this truck is sub 20k, I'm suspecting that the real entry price will be 25-28k with options.

Which would be very compelling.

Someone mentioned the computer networking design book "The Cathedral and the Bazaar". It's possible that Moldbug read this, he was a computer major, but he popularized the phase in the golden age of blogs.

He read Burnham and Carlyle. Instapundit was his gateway according to his hit-piece wikipedia article.

Wikipedia is of the cathedral, fuck em.

101 About the Flight III Destroyers - the AMDR is a nice piece of kit - the only thing that survived the CG(X) program, and it will have several configurations that will replace older radars like the SPS-48E. It's modular, meaning it can have 3, 4, or just one (rotating) face of various sizes and thus range and sensitivity.

However, we currently already have Integrated Air and Missile Defense with the SPY-1D and D(V) radars with the Baseline 9/BMD 5.x upgrade.

Thirty years ago or thereabouts, I saw a photo sequence of the nuke powered USS Bainbridge CGN-25, going from dead in the water to a well-over 30 kt. Flank Speed at maximum acceleration.

In just over one ship-length, she'd buried her stern to the gunwale and was already chewing what looked to be about a 10 kt. bone in her teeth (bow-wave). Quarter mile later, the wake had flattened, but the bow wave was looking like a wave on Oahu. At a half mile, no water skiier could ever have hoped to hold the handle. Read also that the prop shafts had torque instruments coupled to the reduction gears, to react more quickly than the crew could, so as to not shear a shaft from the huge amount of surplus power available through the system. Ole Evinrude never dreamt of such a thing.

Because milk and eggs is still exploiting animals and that's wrong! That will be the vegan reasoning behind it. At least for a large amount of them. I'm sure some think its just healthier, but if they're preachy about it, you can almost guarantee its going to be evil exploiting animals. There's a wrestler Kofi Kingston that has talked a little about going vegan, and while not being preachy when it gets brought up he talks about finding drinking milk from a cow just disgusting now.

242 @223 - I'm not sure I would accept Stanley Kubrick's views on comedy. On film, yes, sure, he (shall we say) knew his way around a camera and a set, and with some actors tossed into the mix.

His one outright comedy, "Lolita," I found unfunny and poorly made. Though I admit I did enjoy "Doctor Strangelove" because everyone died in the end.

Back 20 years ago when I lived in Atlanta I used to meet up at a friend's apartment complex that had indoor racquetball courts. Me, some work friends, and a bunch of other guys were in rounds to play. There were just three courts, therefore there was a lot of demand, so people made a big deal, about sign-ups, getting in the roster etc.. but every rare once and a while this one girl, a dancer at one of the numerous ATL clubs would come in and ask if she could get in the list.

Yes, of course, this one here is avaliable right now actually! We would all say.

And then we all proceeded to play like shit, well for me normal shit, watching her practice her routines. It was one of those setups where the main wall is, well, a wall, opaque and all, but the sides and back are all glass.

Thankfully, THR has a MUCH shorter recovery time, and she won't be in a body cast/have to use a wheelchair for several months.

Fore and aft traverse armored bulkheads that close in "The Citadel", armor protected interior of the ship, are about as thick, or thicker. And that thing would hit 33 knots, all day long.

351 340 - could you get a PO box in a city as your address? Is that enough to be considered a permanent address? I know it can get price for long term stays at RV parks, so you would have to have some form of income in order to clean out the systems and purchase water and gas. Those things probably get terrible gas mileage.

I would love an Airstream Sprinter, though. It's small enough to be easy to drive, but you can stay in it for a while if necessary. Mostly it's comfortable to sit in the back with the dog while my husband drives.

I've got a few years of second-hand experience with the Sprinters in commercial service. Largest competitor ran a fleet of Blue-Tec diesel Sprinters for passenger haulage. I'm friends with the Manager at the service shop that tended to their fleet. Said they were some of the most expensive to maintain vans he'd ever wrenched. Parts, being "Mercedes" were priced accordingly, and backordered from hell.

Conversely, my boss keeps us in Ford Transits with the 3.5 Twin Turbo Eco-Boost. Pretty damn bulletproof in every regard. Body, engine, transmission, interior. Brakes is about the biggest fix yet, into the mid 100k mile range.

Get the conversion, but get it on a Transit. You'll spend far less, and come out far ahead.

389 So I went through Alexandria VA recently, it had been a while to to that area. I went down Eisenhower AVE and something seemed off. I was sure I recalled a statue of General Eisenhower in that circle. They are doing some type of reconstruction there, new grass, etc. But my heart sank. I already knew what was going on but didn't want to admit it. It is like when you expect the worst, know it is the worst, but still you hope there is some logical answer. Maybe they were just taking it out for a clean up job?
So I checked the web frantically and found nothing. It seems this has not had much response for some reason. I guess this stuff is so common today that when it doesn't happen, that is when something is off. Finally I found a site about the "enlargement of Eisenhower Ave". Their Faq section states that statue has been moved to an undisclosed, secure location. And there is not information on where it will be placed in the future. Yeah, ok, I am buying this is about making a street wider.

399 I heard another crazy one about Virginia recently, while we are on the subject. This one it just as bad and just as crazy. So they are going to recommend renaming four military bases in Virginia. It is some commission of people who are likely very unqualified. I forget if it is state based or federal. But from what I heard, as long as a Dem is in power, whatever they say goes. So let's be honest, what they are doing is they ARE going to rename these four bases. This won't have a surprise ending, things don't work like that anymore.

But what shocked me was hearing the name of the four bases, well, one of the names. You have Ft. Lee (which is tiny), Ft. Pickett, Ft. A.P. Hill, and, .... wait for it.....Fort Belvoir!

I recall even some lib Virginia politicos arguing this point a few years back. History is one of the major industries, certainly it is a major part of the tourism industry. Cities like Alexandria have erased so much history, they could be a generic "Ye olde Olde Town" from The Simpsons or something. Still the decadent wealth, all Lefty Dems in Ancient houses. Everyone that came before, who is like you say, pisses them off. I could come up with some ideas of why they don't like Ike. For one he loved Robert E. Lee. And lets be honest, he was president in the 50s, so he had to have had some views they want to cancel. I think at this point people need to wake up and realize it is anyone and everyone. If they could cancel Reagan, remove his name from the airport and other locales, they would. At this point they go as far as they think possible and even they admit they can't believe what they are getting away with.

455 Going vegan would not save either the environment nor the animals. Going all agricultural would require more land than what we use now, displacing the animals that live there (and do they know about field animals killed during harvesting?). Domestic breeds of animals would disappear. That might not bother them, but I suspect they have not considered what might happen at "freeing" domestic animals, nor what would happen now with no constraints on others such as wild pigs and deer.

you can't reason with this modern Left that has taken over. There is no argument than can win them over. This is not about judging character, it is about taking a place, any place and making it nothing like it used to be. That is the plan, on the local level, the state level, and the national level. If they can make their home nothing like it was even a decade ago, that is the plan. JMO and I have been holding back on this mostly.

You don't have to beat my head in 90 times to figure it out, 89 times is enough.

478 The Eisenhower Memorial was the most recent memorial in DC. Does that make DC less insane than Northern Virginia? Yes, I think it does. I personally don't think there is much comparable to what has gone on in Nova.

In this country we have deep blue states and cities that have always been that way. We also have red states and areas that even on this exact date, to them, a lot of this is just something to watch on tv. But if you are in a former red state that went deep blue quickly, it is a very different experience. I say what has happened to NOVA has to be the most drastic change the country has seen over the last decade. In fact ,I am positive that is the case at least in a major area.

497 Pence reminds me of some Mormons I once knew. They despised Trump, and we were friends so I tried to explain that we needed his leadership despite his flaws.

I used the example of Churchill. I reminded them that he was a drunk and a misogynist, but at the time he was the only leader capable of bringing Britain back from the brink and saving Europe from the Nazi. Would condemn 6 million more Jews to death because you refused to follow a "broken" leader like Churchill?

I was astonished when they yes. And we are no longer friends.

It is a Sin to forsake this world for the next. They didn't want to stain their souls with blood, even if it meant saving lives, because that might handicap their odds of getting into the next Life.

God doesn't speak to me, but I know in my heart that this is not the way. We do not forsake this world for the next. I'm afraid that if the Republic were threatened, Pence would simply turn the other cheek.

the straw that broke the Camel's back in Virginia is they lost everything. If they could have lost dog catcher, they would of lost it. The one thing they had for years was the House of Delegates. The key there is there were already laws to keep super lefty, radical, non Virginian cities from making crazy laws on their own. Once the Delegates were lost, along with everything else, the cities could unleash their vengeance.
That is why they ban ccw in libraries, liquor stores etc. Who cares if the state is banning state sanctioned rights. And tear down any monument around. The key is they can now. Even two years ago, they could not. It is time to run amok because now it is allowed.

How we've been lied to. Lawrence Livermore is the home of the "Top. Men" of lore (along with a few others). So, makes sense. The Top Men were tasked with determining the genesis of WuFlu. Top. Men. concluded it was lab created. Top. Men. Biowarfare Division are also at home at Ft. Detrick. They have also concluded it was lab created.

All that time, we were lied to. And you can be assured the other Western govt's Top Men concluded the same.

555 My late GrandDad on my Mom's side was a Panama Marine. Fought in Guatemala, too. Banana wars, it was called.

The Old Corps. Only they and China Marines of a similar vintage can rightfully bear that name. No matter how brave or honorable the Marines that stormed Guadalcanal, they're not Old Corps.

Their campaigns are well more than a hundred years past. If their blood is yet in our veins, we owe to them, and to our progeny, to set the current shit right. Series of boxes, your guess as to which is now in action is as good as mine.

565 I've lived in NoVA since 1976. It was changing slowly, pace picked up radically in the last ten years. In the 90's (i think) VA was able to add an amendment to the state constitution preserving hunting/fishing rights. It failed in Arlington and Fairfax, barely passed in Loudon. The rest of the state got it through. I don't think it would pass now.

This.
Which is why it's laughable when people talk about going to war against China over COVID. We funded the damn thing.
This is my theory to why Fauci is being sacrificed with the leaks and why it's being confirmed what we knew back in Feb-March 2020. It protects China from a coalition of countries who have been hurt the worst, plus our country is now asshoe.

574 Late update to the aircraft photo on the "Insurrectionist Cafe": It's an RAF Lightning. You'd be able to tell better if the photo had the #2 aircraft in echelon rather than close formation that it has two engines configured over/under. It looks nothing like an F-14 (which has a twin tail, the photo is single-tail). The MiG-21 has a delta front wing with a straight trailing edge. The lightning has a trailing edge swept for most of the span until the end where it is straight. The Lightning also has a slight bubble canopy, the MiG-21 does not.

I like the Twitter headline mentioned at WZs: 'Apparent' Tornadoes touch down in Colorado.

-Uh. Considering the picture... What else would it be? Are we worried about that there false information or jumping to conclusions? If I saw one of those 'apparent' tornadoes, it probably would be best to assume that it really is a tornado rather than wait for an expert to confirm that it is a real tornado.
