A man is facing felony charges after police said he used fireworks to destroy five mailboxes in Mesa and Gilbert. According to detectives, John Janecek, was behind the four incidents in Mesa and one in Gilbert between March 12 and March 15. Surveillance video caught the suspect's maroon Hyundai Sonata leaving the scene in three of the Mesa cases. After searching databases for the car, detectives said they found Janecek had one and that he posted videos on social media making and setting off fireworks. Police said they used the 40-year-old's phone records to find that he had been in the area of the first Mesa exploding mailbox, followed by the one in Mesa.
VENTURA, Calif. -- The Majestic Ventura Theater was forced to close its doors during the pandemic, like so many other venues. Management decided to use the year-long shutdown time to remodel. During the work, crews made a valuable discovery. It is something that was lost more than 40 years ago. It was a trip down memory lane that Colleen Distin didn’t see coming. A wallet she had lost 46 years ago was found at the Majestic Ventura earlier this week. The historic theater has been an iconic venue since the 1920s, but the pandemic forced the doors to close for over a year. Management decided to use this time to remodel and that is how the discovery came about.
“The other day one of our employees was changing out some light bulbs and the chandelier dropped a couple of inches, and we had to fix it,” said Tom Stevens, who has worked at the Majestic Ventura Theater for five years. Stevens had to climb in the attic through a small cement pathway and made the unusual discovery.

It does not have the same profile to sweep a large area like the traditional three blade generators, but then it doesn't kill birds either.
Also the cheaper price tag and no moving parts makes it cheaper to install more.

Then is says 8283 were 19, 33,103 were 18, 12 were 17, and 5 were 16.
By my calculations, that would be 41,403 ages 16-19, thats not including 20, 21 and 22 year olds.

Joel was in other Preston Sturges films but went on to make westerns. He seems like he was a likeable guy in real life and another straight-as opposed to gay- actor (I keep telling you guys, that yes, there were and are straight actors.
since he was married to the same woman for about 57 years (Frances Dee-who was gorgeous) and had three sons. One of his sons was Jody McCrea who was in those "Beach Blanket" movies and ended up as a Rancher. We saw "Beach Blanket Bingo" a few nights ago. Jody McCrea looked very much like his father and was a good actor. This morning's Tulsa World had multiple sections - sections! - covering the 1921 riots and current brouhaha about then. The paper has had articles about the riots regularly for weeks. The TV has been covering it, too, I hear, although I don't watch TV. Even when visiting Mom, who does watch TV.
Older sister called Mom today to tell her to watch some TV show about the riot. Really? We're 'way past media super-saturation on the subject! (BTW, Mom was 1 year old when the riot happened. But wasn't in Tulsa then.) Mom said she was going to send the newspaper sections to Sis. Hahaha
What I haven't seen? Acknowledgement that from the marches and riots of the '60s to the BLM urban riots of recent years, Tulsa has not had a repeat of that awful event. There should be slogans like, "Tulsa, 100 years without a race riot." OR, "Tulsa, we do riots right." (Umm.. maybe not on that one.)

An aunt of mine and her family had gone on a trip to Yellowstone. She talked about the idiots who, not only went up to bears, but would put their children near bears in order to get pictures. @Semi, I get it. Memorial Day is to honor our American fallen, and this is pretty tangential to that purpose. I did read the article, and it appears to have been written by someone who is not totally familiar with the history. It's not clear to me that the unit fought as a unit, because too many people were in too many places. To me, it looks like a group of people who were native German speakers who were used to good purpose by the Brits, but not as a unit, rather as individuals or small groups in situations where they needed people who could speak German.

First time I took my wife hiking in grizzly country she rigged up tiny sleigh bells with bent paper clips and rubber bands and attached them to her pack. We sounded like Santa and his reindeer making deliveries.
We found left over Tupperware containers chewed into itty bitty pieces. These were from the previous years trip my buddies and I took. Bear managed to tear open the food cache that was hoisted 12 ft in the air on a tree limb. All of a sudden my grizzly bear stories became real to my wife.

Cool story about your son! My older son is nearly 22, and he has become a huge hockey fan like me. The 2018 Cup run for the Caps was such a great time for us. We went to the parade down in DC (about 90 mins away) -- it was an amazingly perfect day! Weather couldn't have been better. All of us long-suffering Caps fans just soaking in the elation along with crazy-ass Ovi. One of my favorite days ever!
Before Wu-Flu, I used to travel to CO occasionally for work. Been to a couple Avs games. One time, I was with one of my work buddies. We had a few adult beverages so we were being a little goofy. During the anthem, we did the Baltimore thing, yelling "O" loudly. There was actually a kid there in an O's hat who gave us a thumbs-up!

I had to draw my .357 on a huge grizzly boar one morning. It just ambled into camp. It stopped about 10 feet from me. Being so close I would have maybe had time for one shot before he was on me. I've been going through that paper linked above -- it's long (and unfortunately, English is obviously not the first language of the authors of some of the sections).
They absolutely rip apart the (extremely) limited clinical trials conducted on the Covid vaccines. Basically, the scientific and medical establishment threw out ever protocol they have in this hell for leather roll out of the vaccines.
From this limited data, the only population that one should even consider vaccinating are those at very high risk of severe Covid disease. And then, you apply even more scrutiny to those.
First, anyone who has had Covid should not take it period. This is only increases risk. It provides no benefit. There is no debate on this point. Anyone who suggests otherwise is a fool or lying. Proper procedure would be to ensure this, and test for existing natural immunity before proceeding.
Second, those not at risk for severe disease should not take it either. Again, risk outweigh benefit.

So not an actual liquid piston, then? Those were a thing at one time. Advantage: essentially no precision machining needed. One application was large scale water pumping. You could build the cylinder out of wood or whatever, with a couple of check valves to control the water flow and some intake and exhaust valves to take care of the fuel.
Intake valve opens/Fuel and air shot into cylinder/Water intake valve opened, causing water to flow in and compress the fuel/air mixture/Ignition/Water flows out the output check valve under pressure.
Pretty cool. I think they were used in some remote areas well into the 20th Century. It's something you can build with just basic tools.
The efficiency probably wasn't great.

But there's a problem here. The data is not complete. Statistically significant efficacy can only be applied to the whole group, which includes those at low risk for severe disease.
You CANNOT say a damn thing about the efficacy for the high risk groups because you don't have enough data on that sub group!
They point out something else. In none of these trials did anyone die of Covid disease. Control or otherwise. You can't say a fucking thing about mortality (ie vaccine reduces mortality) because you don't have a single fucking data point.

Reports are that for an actual, charging bear, that the heavy "George Foreman" grade punch from a large diameter, heavy for caliber slug is proven a bit more effective in slowing, if not stopping the charge. Claim is that the fast pills such as a .300 Win Mag, while surely able to kill a bear, just don't motivate the beast to apply the brakes in quite the way that the thumpers do.
Of course, I'd think the wisest course of action would be to hire SMH to be the Hunting Guide, from the relative shelter of her Abrams with it's 120mm main gun.

Still they carry a pistol. The guy who runs Buffalo Bore, Tim Sundles, makes specialty ammunition and has some observations on the webpage, he has shot a number of bears. He says you probably won't have to kill a black bear if you are atfacked.
Grizzly is different. He doesn't say a .454 huge bullet is a required like a lot of guys, but they must be hard cast bullets and high velocity. Bears have thick skulls. A properly placed bullet and they will go down.

Alternately it is because you are unlucky enough to have to travel from job to job because there is no position open for full time and you can't wrangle telecommuting privileges.
I heard an interview with one of the brightest investors who claimed that working at trades will no longer make you rich, and this is true.
As long as inflation eats your money, working and saving makes you poor, you have to invest in something that will float in value away from currency.
It bothers me, both that this brightest light in finance didn't understand inflation, and that he never considered that the state of things that made him rich might not be a good thing generally.

Just reading. There's a report out that "autonomous" drone that make the decision to attack on their own have been used. It's a Turkish made drone, and it has reportedly been used in Libya against some rebel force.
From what I gather, these are basically those small quad-rotor drones fitted with explosives. Software inside makes the decision to find a human and do a kamikaze dive and blow him up.
They unleashed a swarm at retreating rebels or something.

It was a huge factor, because the closer we got to Tokyo, the worse the Japanese were willing to treat their own people. One could argue that the Japanese soldiers didn't think of the Okinawans as truly "their own people" due to their somewhat impure ancestry, but they were certainly more Japanese than the residents of, say, Nanking, and we all know how THAT turned out. We saved so many Japanese lives by dropping those nukes.

Interservice rivalry was also a problem. The Navy wanted Nimitz to be in charge of the whole thing and the Army wanted McArthur.
This would've been the biggest military operation in history, again bar none. There were plans to promote McArthur to "six star" general, General of the Armies, for this, to make it clear he was in total command.
Really, there's some debate on what this 6-star rank would've been. They could have actually created a new 6-star rank for McArthur, called it something else, and still have General of the Armies above that.
But the A-bombs mooted all that discussion and planning.

I am watching a scene here I would not believe if I weren't seeing. We've got two new kittens here, now a little over 10 weeks old.
There is a big 15.1 lb tomcat playing with them like he's a kitten himself. He's fixed, and this I can't believe, he's started displaying mothering behavior to these kittens. He licks and grooms them, lets them mess with him, and doesn't mind.
We were worried about how he would react, but hell, he's become their Mama.

The tomcat, Jake, was sitting on the floor. The little male kitten started stalking him. The little kitten arches his back and does the sideways crab-walk thing, attacking Jake. Jake gets up and does a little bull-charge thing, butting the kitten with his head and pushing him to the side.
Jake then runs, with the kitten chasing him.
Now understand that Jake is a killing machine. He has caught and dragged a full grown rabbit to the porch, and was gonna try to bring him in the cat door.
