Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Quarantine Cafe: Novelty/Humor Songs EditionIn rough chronological order, but I haven't looked every song's release year up. It's all guestimated. Spike Jones, Cocktails for Two. Louie Prima, Yes, We Have No Bananas. Alvin and The Chipmunks, Christmas Don't Be Late. Allan Sherman, Hello Muddah Hello Faddah. Buchanan & Goodman, Flying Saucer. David Seville, Witch Doctor. Snoopy Versus The Red Baron. Screamin' Jay Hawkins, I Put a Spell On You. Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, Little Red Riding Hood. People who aren't really Beatles fans might be surprised that they did a novelty/humor/parody song: The Beatles, You Know My Name (Look Up the Number). (Well, I mean, I guess Yellow Submarine is a novelty song too. I try not to think of that one.) Jimmy Soul, If You Want to Be Happy All Your Life. Napoleon XIV, They're Coming to Take Me Away (Ha-Ha). The Intro and The Outro, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. The Holy Modal Rounders, Boobs-A-Lot. Frank Zappa, Please Don't Eat the Yellow Snow. C.W. McCall, Convoy. Cheech & Chong, Basketball Jones. Steve Martin, King Tut. Black Arabs, Sex Pistols disco medley. Rick Dees and His Cast of Idiots, Disco Duck. Barnes & Barnes, Fish Heads. (One of the Barnes is Billy Mumy from Lost in Space.) Pac Man Fever. Eddie Murphy, Boogie in the Butt. Camper Van Beethoven, Take the Skinheads Bowling. Weird Al Yankovic, My Bologna. Content warning. And I don't know if this counts. But this has to be a joke, right? 2 Live Crew, The F**k Shop. Julie Brown, The Homecoming Queen's Got a Gun. Superstars of the WWF, Land of a Thousand Dances. Weird Al, Eat It. Weird Al, I Lost on Jeopardy. I think this counts: Biz Markie, Just a Friend. Rodney Dangerfield, Rappin' Rodney. Bestie Boys, Fight For Your Right (To Party). Beastie Boys, Girls. Bob & Doug McKenzie, featuring Geddy Lee, Take Off. Bob & Doug McKenzie, the 12 Days of Christmas. The Fat Boys, Wipe Out. King Missile, Detachable Penis. Liam Lynch, United States of Whatever. The Lonely Island, The Heist. Tenacious D, F*** Her Gently. Content warning. The Lonely Island, Jack Sparrow. Steel Panther, It Won't Suck Itself. Steel Panther, Eatin' Ain't Cheatin'. Steel Panther, The Shocker. Content Warning on those last three, if the titles weren't warning enough. Let's finish up with three big ones:Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Yes, I have the 45 of Fish Heads. The disk is a picture disk in the shape of a fish head. The video is quintessential 80's. Who could pull off wearing a garbage bag?
The first album I owned was Let's All Sing With The Chipmunks. And yes, they looked like chipmunks on the cover (metallic red and transparent red vinyl). Strangely, my Dad had a 45 by the Nutty Squirrels (I still have it), which tried to cash in on the Chimunks' success in 1959, and actually beat them to TV. You should definitely try one of their albums sometime--there's a lot more where that came from. Their semi-famous N.I.B. cover is probably the most normal thing they ever did.
Fun bit of trivia: there is one, and only one, band that has its very own ID3v1 genre tag. That band is Primus. Posted by: CppThis I have all of Primus' albums on a flash drive I keep plugged into my car's mp3 player at all times. They are pretty much my favorite group at this point. Not Don Ho and I can't recall the event but as a teen I was with my parents and a few other people who I can't recall (visiting relatives??) and we were at a dinner-theatre where blues-lady Salome Bey was performing. They did a spotlight thing on our table and she began singing to the table getting closer and closer until she was at the table; I raised my eyebrows expectantly but she sidled up to my dad and teasingly sang to him instead. I hope I didn't look too disappointed.

There was a band named Pianosaurus that played all little-kid instruments. The jangly little piano and crappy little guitars and all.
And played them well. I remember them having a lot of original songs (Thrift Store!), but they did some great covers, too, and it was comical to hear these talented musicians playing serious songs on instruments shaped like dinosaurs and fish. Another band that sorta/kinda tried to change their sound a little bit with each album: The Alan Parsons Project. Didn't hurt that they had several lead singers, including at least one who wasn't even an official member of the band.

#485 I phoned the salon twice but the phone just kept ringing and ringing without voicemail or an answering machine to try doing that.
As I've got a neurotic bent now, I think they might have disconnected any answering machine because then maybe bylaw inspectors would say, "So you're AM is turned on even though your business has to be completely closed, eh?? You're not doing illegal styling at home visits are you?? ARE YOU?!!" And the salon owner wouldn't know if he was being set up by a bylaw officer either, so I could see disconnecting it completely just to avoid that accusation let alone actually being set up. It's a shame because I had a good personal excuse to talk to or leave a personal and not work-related message on the machine. Posted by: andycanuck at April 30, 2021 08:41 PM (UHVv4) 544

Floyd got his big break when Wometco Home Theater wanted to use the UHF bad to broadcast encrypted subscription based movies, and they got the license contingent on public TV broadcast during day.
They hired Floyd, who proceeded to do an absurd kiddie show filled with double entendre and obscure Nj rock bands. As well as a group of degenerates and freaks, and called it "educational." No one gave a shit since it was unused bandwidth anyway. He broadcast out of a trailer under the transmission tower on Eagle Rock Ave, and sold T-shirts and 45s as well to make a profit.
