Ted Cruz: Republicans Have Too Long Permitted Corporations to Attack the People. No More.

He says he won't take any money from a corporate PAC -- and he may not take their phone calls, either.

When a woke corporation needs a favor they'd usually ask of a Republican, they can call up one of their socialist friends in the Democrat Party instead.

After establishing that corporations are attacking Republican voters as well as their political hopes:

This is the point in the drama when Republicans usually shrug their shoulders, call these companies "job creators," and start to cut their taxes. Not this time.

This time, we won’t look the other way on Coca-Cola;s $12 billion in back taxes owed. This time, when Major League Baseball lobbies to preserve its multibillion-dollar antitrust exception, we'll say no thank you. This time, when Boeing asks for billions in corporate welfare, we'll simply let the Export-Import Bank expire.

For too long, woke CEOs have been fair-weather friends to the Republican Party: They like us until the left's digital pitchforks come out. Then they run away. Or they mouth off on legislation they don’t understand--and hurt the reputations of patriotic leaders protecting our elections and expanding the right to vote. Enough is enough. Corporations that flagrantly misrepresent efforts to protect our elections need to be called out, singled out and cut off.

In my nine years in the Senate, I've received $2.6 million in contributions from corporate political-action committees. Starting today, I no longer accept money from any corporate PAC. I urge my GOP colleagues at all levels to do the same.

For too long, Republicans have allowed the left and their big-business allies to attack our values with no response. We've allowed them to ship jobs overseas, attack gun rights, and destroy our energy companies. We’ve let them smear Republicans without paying any price.

As America's greatest basketball player observed years ago, Republicans buy sneakers, too. We cast votes, too. And we pay attention when CEOs come after our own just so they can look good for a few editorial pages and radical activists.

To them I say: When the time comes that you need help with a tax break or a regulatory change, I hope the Democrats take your calls, because we may not. Starting today, we won't take your money either.

Note he's not vowing to not take money from any corporation or CEO. Some of those are actually conservative.

But this is a good start.

It's also a clear sign he's running in 2024.

Even though donations from citizens now dwarf those from corporations, the GOP continues to be a 2 am "U up?" sext booty-call for corporate interests.

Republican leaders were able to rake in millions from grassroots campaign donations during the first fundraising quarter of 2021, leaving corporations in the dust after their freeze on political donations in January.

In January, Wall Street firms paused their political donations from their corporate political action committees (PACs) to some members of Congress after the Capitol Hill riot. Their reasoning was to threaten Republican members who were pro-Trump.

Axios reported, "If those companies hoped to push the GOP toward the center, they may have done just the opposite by turning Republican lawmakers toward their most committed -- and ideologically driven -- supporters."

Instead of the Republican lawmakers becoming negatively affected, they turned to their supporters. This, in turn, gave lawmakers the ability to use grassroots fundraising to rake in millions in small-dollar donations.

According to the campaign's filing, Axios reported Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-KY) campaign committee received $1.9 million in contributions, all of which came from individual donors and no PACs in the first quarter. This included more than $700,000, which were "unitemized donations or donations that were under $200."

And yet China Mitch and his crew will continue favoring corporations over citizens.

And for some bizarre reason, citizens are continuing to donate to China Mitch.

Why he is astounded at the mercenary behavior of the corrupt? Anyone who buys a politician will buy *any* politician without compunction. He'll gravitate to whoever gives him the best value for money or who's threats are the most severe. He is a solicitor of prostitutes in all respects.

Look around you: does our marketplace of ideas resemble anything like that promised by the bewigged liberals of the late-18th and 19th centuries? Does truth prevail over its cacophony of nonsense? Set aside the teaching of Genesis, whatever happened to the basic teachings of biology and genetics about the immutability of sex? (Don't ask Richard Dawkins, just cancelled by the American Humanist Association for daring to question gender ideology.)

Look around you: do today's eye--watering wealth and power inequalities suggest that liberalism has done away with social hierarchies? Or has it rather empowered an especially selfish class of owners and managers, their rapaciousness made all the more galling by their woke and 'meritocratic' pretensions?

49 I don't hate Cruz. I didn't like him in 16 as compared to Trump, but I don't think he's despicable. He strikes me as a bit slick, but most politicians do.

Here's what I don't know, thinking of 2024. Assuming that is possible to get a Republican president elected, there's no point to a good person holding that office. Trump demonstrated that you can get some done, but nothing that involves the cooperation of either house of the legislature, the military, the agencies or any facet of the professional state. It's a false prize and you'll be destroyed for the effort of winning it.

So given that, whoever is in the big chair who isn't a deep state establishmentarian will by stymied. The best case scenario for that office is to hold back the worst excesses while toeing the line and avoiding reform. So where is Cruz more valuable? As a senator or as a line-holder in the Oval (if he can even get there, which is doubtful)? I don't know. I suspect it might be an irrelevant question, and the best case isn't enough better than the worst case to justify playing at all.

They are hiring and promoting people purely based on race, when more qualified people exist. They are pushing destructive left wing policies that destroy our kids education, hurt our schools, pry into our private lives and healthcare, increase our taxes and undermine our elections. They are nothing more than political activist and I am done finding their exploits. I've successfully eliminated them from my life. Remind me- why do I need their products? I don't and maybe we should start bringing shareholder lawsuits (which Republicans have been protecting them from) for SEC violations. Because none of this adds to the financial well being of the company. It actually financially hurts it and dilutes shareholder value. That's demonstrably provable in court.

I'm so cynical I would guess that some of that is foreign money laundered through Win Red (or some other donation platform) that doesn't require personal data for under a certain amount + paid via Visa/Amex gift card.

That's how Share Blue/Act Blue launders money for Democrats, right?

After Coke decided to develop stupidity, then Mtn Dew decided to give an endorsement deal to a fascist retard, my soda drinking choices became somewhat limited. I wanted to stay away from Sucralose (splenda) if at all possible- which narrowed my options even further.

Ale8(1) is locally made. It is much less sweet than Coke or Mtn Dew (which does not take much.) It does not taste bad. I just cannot decide whether I like it or not.

It does much more than that. If the goal were so innocent as that, there'd be little to fear.

Any candidate faced with such a directive will do one of four things. He will comply enthusiastically and indeed likely have something at the ready, he will comply but not mean it, he will refuse, or he will ghost and drop out of contention for the position.

This allows them to put his name on one of four lists. They are, respectively, Party, adjunct but useful, immediate death when the killing starts or eventual death in subsequent phases of the slaughter.

It isn't the use of these tactics to filter out candidates and select for ideology and force anyone non-compliant out of his preferred livelihood that is frightening. It's the real reason that is frightening. The real reason is to determine who to murder first, who to murder second and who to merely enslave.

The problems in the US are problems everywhere. The west as a whole has a political/corporate class which has been bred to game the system in order to get ahead, but relies on the accumulated economic, social, and political capital of previous generations to actually keep things running. Unfortunately that capital is mostly gone, and the institutions are discovering that they are massively overleveraged. Now they're at the point where they're cooking the books and borrowing whatever they can in order to stay afloat just a bit longer. It won't end well.

Corporate taxes don't feed directly into prices. Like capital gains taxes, they're taxes levied on equity holders which affects investment spending(and stock prices). At sufficiently high levels you'd probably start seeing people financial engineer around it.

Sales taxes on the other hand do seem to feed directly into prices at a 1:1 rate (though theory would suggest it should be less than 1:1).

It's not that straight forward, really.

Red state senators, assuming they won't be receiving corporate cash, will be less likely to vote in corporate interests while in little to no danger of being bumped off electorally.

Corporations being now driven by politically insane and impulsive activists are not acting in their self interests. They will shoot themselves in the foot to own the cons at this point.

250 > I wonder if that would still be permitted today.

We made a functional cannon in shop class. Carved a form out of wood -- maybe a foot long and 2" in diameter, cast it in aluminum, bored it out to take a piece of chalk as ammo, made a threaded hole in the breech that took a steel bolt which in turn had a hole big enough for a firecracker fuse.

Thread the fuse through the bolt, screw the bolt and firecracker into the breech, load a piece of chalk.

Made about an 8" diameter hole in the sheetrock of the shop building the first time we fired it. We weren't allowed to fire it indoors after that.

Kids that did that today would have the ATF on them, I'm pretty sure.

The Right has a lot to answer for, regarding America's decline. When the Left was against NAFTA because what it would do to Labor, the right, as Labor's enemy, reflexively supported NAFTA, not listening to what Perot had to say against it. Corps took that, and eventually abandoned us for the Left as soon as they offered more - Clinton showed them the way. The Left became champions of the corporations without so much as a peep from the Right in the meantime. Now, of course, it's too late.

Everything from the First and Second Amendment to removing MLB's anti trust protections and things like planned parenthood and other abortion issues. He's spoke out so much about the election he had to hire more security and has been stalked to resign. But yeah, go after Cruz who is now leading the way again. Russia had numerous suitors from the near west and far west. Yes, it was primarily Russia's belief that it was The New Rome or Constantinople. But when war and atrocities moved through various European areas some saw Russia, which was well removed initially, as a hopeful anchor to sanity. But they were wrong.

338 Only days after the menthol ban was announced, the FDA declared that it was pushing full steam ahead with its effort to rescue the black community through what they refer to as "strategic race-based prohibition." An FDA official explained that the fried fowl and grape-flavored cola -- also known as "grape drank" -- must be banned because "these hopeless negroes don't know how to act."

"Preventing black people from killing themselves by banning certain products is the least we can do given the level of oppression they have endured in this country," said a high-ranking member of the Biden administration. "This is why fried chicken and grape soda have to go."

He added: "How could they possibly survive if we don't make these decisions for them?"

342 So given that, whoever is in the big chair who isn't a deep state establishmentarian will by stymied.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at April 30, 2021 11:22 AM (Jsjd7)

That's a fair point, but what line has Cruz managed to hold? We know he's not for open borders, and yet he votes for every immigration increase that comes his way. He certainly hasn't held the line on any social issues. He plays a fine foil for the Democrats to focus their hate on, but what has he accomplished for Conservatives?
