Tomorrow is both Easter and the final day of Passover. Where adherents of these faiths worship freely, civilization and liberty are more likely to flourish. Blessings to all of the Christian and Jewish readers of this wonderful gathering spot.

EASTER MEMORIES

Am I the only person who didn’t like Easter Sunday as a child? I know I sound just awful, but I didn’t. In my mind, one of my two precious weekend days – right in the best part of Spring – was replaced with having to wear church clothes all day long, a big formal multi-family meal in the middle of the day, and no free-range outdoor play. Even the Easter Egg hunt seemed like a weak, imitation-Christmas stunt, and although I was happy to receive a chocolate bunny, I had no use for the hard-boiled eggs I found. Did any of you feel the same way?

It has been a several years since I departed the mainline protestant church I grew up in, due to it effectively replacing Christian faith and traditions with the sacraments and beliefs of the political left. But I still enjoy attending Easter service with elder family members who have not yet given up on the old denomination. And maybe I’m still awful, but since I know I’m going to be listening to a sermon from a left-wing pastor who doesn’t believe in the literal resurrection of Jesus, I get mischievous pleasure from watching him/her/xir try to finesse the wording of the Easter story. The pastor will have a rare packed house, with most people wanting to hear about Jesus’ resurrection. But he also has fellow left-wing activists in attendance who cannot abide with icky pastors who actually believe in the resurrection. So he will mumble for 20 minutes about “the resurrection story” and how in that story we are all given new life, without actually ever saying that Jesus literally rose from the dead.

OK – on to your regularly scheduled ONT.

SPACE-AGE “GOOGIE” ARCHITECTURE

I occasionally drive by this beautiful building, which is an excellent example of “Googie” architecture. It was a Big Boy restaurant in the 1960s. I wish I could have had a burger there.

Googie - Chattanooga.JPG

By the time I was sentient, things were more Groovy than Googie, but there were still a lot of Googie-inspired buildings around. They’re mostly gone now, or in terrible disrepair, but some are still in service.

THE EASTER JACKRABBIT

Did the Easter Bunny story originate on the Texas frontier in the 1840s?

The Comanches allowed the Germans to stay, but they had people to keep an eye on the settlers from the surrounding hills. At night, the Comanches would light big fires, which worried the newcomers.
Legend has it that one German woman, to calm her children during the fires, devised a story. “She knew that, in Germany, they always talked about the fairies would come and decorate the eggs,” Sagebiel says. “And she knew that the kids would never believe that there were fairies in Texas, so she came up with this story.” In her version, the Easter rabbit was using the big flames to boil water to cook the eggs before decorating them.

CANCEL CULTURE

“When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you’re only telling the world that you fear what he might say.” – George R.R. Martin

Monster Tech is deathly afraid of free people speaking freely. The more people they try to silence, the more people they inspire to fight back in defense of liberty and free speech. Conservative candidates for President in 2024 must make breaking up Big Tech one of their highest priorities.

DESPERATE FOR A DRINK

George Jones Tractor.JPG

The morons of the ONT probably have some crazy stories about acquiring and overindulging in alcohol. Can you top George Jones?

George’s success fueled his wayward ways with alcohol and he was drinking so bad, his wife Shirley resorted to hiding all the keys to the vehicles before she would leave so George wouldn’t drive to the nearest liquor store in Beaumont. But that didn’t stop him. After tearing the house apart looking for a set of keys, George looked out the window to see a riding lawnmower sitting on the property under the glow of a security light. “There, gleaming in the glow, was that ten-horsepower rotary engine under a seat. A key glistening in the ignition,” George recalled in his autobiography. “I imagine the top speed for that old mower was five miles per hour. It might have taken an hour and a half or more for me to get to the liquor store, but get there I did.”

What’s the craziest thing you ever did to obtain your intoxicant of choice?

Ice Age on Its Way.JPG

This is from 1975. Just 25 years after climatologists were predicting a new ice age, Al Gore was running for President trying to save the Earth from global-warming, which the same climatologists assured us was real. Without Al Gore’s climate fixes, we were long-ago supposed to have seen the end of snowfall, with parts of Manhattan underwater, etc. Every prediction proved false.

Yet climatologists are still peddling their prophecies of doom.

18TH CENTURY CLIMATE CHANGE DEBATE: NOAH WEBSTER vs THOMAS JEFFERSON

In the late 1700s there was a fear among the intellectual class of global warming. Sound familiar? And Thomas Jefferson was one of the evangelists of that era’s climate scare. Jefferson didn’t blame internal combustion engines or frackers, but the message was the same – mankind’s sinful mistreatment of Mother Earth was responsible for the weather.

“Jefferson was affirming the long-standing conventional wisdom of the day. For more than two millennia, people had lamented that deforestation had resulted in rising temperatures.”

Thomas Jefferson famously rejected traditional Christianity and organized religion. Then and now, it’s funny how free-thinkers tend to default to the oldest and most primitive religious tenet – that bad weather is a result of people’s sinful lifestyles. He wrote:

“A change in our climate…is taking place very sensibly. Both heats and colds are becoming much more moderate within the memory of the middle-aged. Snows are less frequent and less deep….The elderly inform me the earth used to be covered with snow about three months in every year. The rivers, which then seldom failed to freeze over in the course of the winter, scarcely ever do so now.”

Noah Webster was apparently a “climate denier” and he wasn’t having it.

“Mr. Jefferson seems to have no authority for his opinions but the observations of elderly and middle-aged people.”

If the Republicans ever nominate another global warmist as a presidential candidate, I’m writing in Noah Webster.

BAD NEWS BEARS

This 4-minute clip from The Bad News Bears is a time capsule that captures so much of that era. The Little League Field where we not only played baseball games, but where we also hung out when not playing baseball. The hair. The arcade. The kid on the motorbike that seemingly had the freedom of an adult. Unfortunately, this is another movie whose cancellation is likely imminent, since it involves children smoking, adults drinking and driving, and a whole bunch of forbidden words.

It saddens me that in this “travel ball” era, kids no longer get to experience the fun of playing their schoolmates at the local Little League field. Or just simply hanging out at the neighborhood ballpark all day on Saturday playing catch, horsing around with the other kids, and chasing foul balls for a free snow cone.

THE WISDOM OF WILLIAM TECUMSEH SHERMAN

General Sherman had a populist disdain for the elite of his era, and an understanding that war is so awful, that it should be avoided unless you are willing to cruelly crush your adversary as quickly as possible. During his march through Georgia, he cut off communication to ensure that no one leaked his whereabouts or sought to undermine his mission. Sherman would have hated our current class of politicians and Generals who seek permanent engagement in war without ever achieving victory. Here are some of his memorable quotes:

In our Country... one class of men makes war and leaves another to fight it out.

War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.

I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are.

Every attempt to make war easy and safe will result in humiliation and disaster.

There will soon come an armed contest between capital and labor. They will oppose each other, not with words and arguments, but with shot and shell, gun-powder and cannon. The better classes are tired of the insane howling of the lower strata and they mean to stop them.

This war differs from other wars, in this particular - we are not fighting armies but a hostile people, and must make old and young, rich and poor, feel the hard hand of war.

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve.

CLASSICAL MUSIC YOU LIKE BUT CAN’T NAME

If you ever watched Firing Line with William F. Buckley, you’ll recognize this number, which served as the show’s theme song. It is Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F Major, Third Movement.

Speaking of Buckley, I wonder what he would think of National Review nowadays. WFB was no Trumpian populist, but he did famously state “I should sooner live in a society governed by the first two thousand names in the Boston telephone directory than in a society governed by the two thousand faculty members of Harvard University.”

The faux-conservative leftists who now run National Review are worshipful of the Ivy League elite and openly contemptuous of average Americans.

Anyhow, here’s some beautiful music from Bach.

I’M A McDLT, YOU’RE A McDLT

What if you took the “I’m A Pepper” concept of a hip guy dancing down a roadway while singing about a product, with a growing entourage of people dancing along? And what if you got Jason Alexander (George Costanza) to be that cool guy? And the product was a McDonald’s hamburger? This really happened.

THROCKMORTON’S FIRST LAW OF LIVE MUSIC: IF THERE’S AN UPRIGHT BASS IN THE BAND, IT’S PROBABLY GOING TO BE GOOD

One of the pleasures of reading David Reaboi and following him on social media is that he’ll not only educate you on politics and international affairs, but he’ll also introduce you to some great jazz. I reached out to him to request a recommendation or two that would include an upright bass. Not only do both of these videos include an upright bass, but they’re actually featured instruments.

Thank you David!

27 Good evening, Horde. I loved Easter as a child. We all got very dressed up in brand new clothes and the kids got lavish Easter baskets.

For the last 25 years, I have had huge Ukrainian Easters with my late hubands's family. Because of the mental disease that was part of the Covid programming, this is the second Easter that they've cancelled, and I wonder if we will ever see them again.

So I'm having Easter with just my kids and grandlovies.

I did not. My Easter consisted of hunting the hardboiled eggs in our house in the morning, then church. Then it was off to my grandparents, where the Easter Egg hunt there was of plastic eggs. Filled with candy, and some having little pieces of paper in them, with amounts of money on them that our grandpa would give us. So definitely a fun day.

130 Two memories that maybe some of you have:

Easter memory - there was an old Rankin and Bass special The Easter Bunny is Coming to Town. It had Fred Astaire as the mailman like in Santa Claus is Coming to Town. The bunny that became the Easter bunny ran over the tail of a rival bunny who turned in to Iron Tail and left green rotten eggs.

8 Track memory - remember when they got old it started to sound like it was under water? Then you'd pull out the tape a bit and fling it to zing it back tighter and it sounded ok for a while.

172 I did the Columbia records dealio a couple of times, with CDs. You had to be diligent in sending back the decline monthly offer, or they'd ship that bad boy at full retail plus shipping.

Still, they ran occasional deals that counted towards your purchase # fulfillment, so with some diligence you could come out with pretty cheap CDs. I had a deal with a video store, and was renting out my cds for $3 thru him... and got unlimited free movies.

Wut.a.deal.

Funny thing about those Columbia Record Club ads: they would customize the music selections to the magazine.

So a 'mature' magazine would be full of listings for Ray Conniff and Percy Faith and the like; Guns & Ammo would contain lots of country artists; Rolling Stone's ad would contain tons of hard rock/heavy metal and new wave; and TV Guide's ad had everything, because it was such a popular magazine across numerous age groups for quite some time, especially in the 1970s/80s.

The religious right is allied with them, having fallen to the seductive notion that occasionally getting a turn with the government bully-stick to 'make people better' is worth the immense cost. 237 Talk to me peeps - hubby's surgery was postponed because bureaucracy.

He is having spinal fusion on the 14th for Spondylolisthesis (vertebrae slid in front of its neighbors). He's having the L3, L4, & L5 vertebrae fused.

Funny how most of the selection were stuff you wouldn't normally buy on a bet.

Yeah that was quit a con. You always figure that the stuff offered by the club had to be better than the stuff they put on the come on list.

But no. Sometimes it was even worse. And of course the monthly selection was some real dog of an album or title that you didn't even know existed.

I once actually fulfilled the required purchase number. It was a book club. And it took ages to get me off their list.

Conex living is interesting. GIs got pretty creative with conex apartments in durka durka stan.

The issue for using it subterranean living is moisture and lateral pressure forced. Conex support is primarily a vertical strength not a lateral one so soil shifts could have bad effects. I saw a place out west that used school buses 3/4 buried to some effect about a decade ago.

316 going back 40 years, I have to say, every time I hear people speaking of the joys of "Easter", it makes me cringe a little ... the Resurrection of the son of God, where the "lamb of God" gave his life, trusting his Father would raise him from the dead ("if there be any other way, let this cup pass from me") ... that has nothing to do with "Easter" ... which involves facing East? praising a sun god? .. or Asther .. another pagan god? ...

But OK, I have to accept it every year, where they say "shut up, 2+2=5", more or less, in my view. ... But yes, let the emphasis be on our redemption. -- Yes it was "Sunday", which is Saturday sunset. But don't worship the sunrise ... he arose at sunset Saturday evening. (Jews know the sunset Saturday is the end of the Sabbath, right?)

Look for a rural or ranch quarter with a canyon or coulee running through it, where some of the slope break area has southern exposure. Choose a site that is not actively eroding! Dig down into the earth at the slope break, pour concrete floor, walls and roof. Entire south wall is glass, with sliding doors, under a deep roof overhang, to shade from summer sun, but allowing passive solar heating from low winter sun.

Basics of an earth-sheltered home.

I used to have fun singing that as "Mangy" as though it were about a dog with serious skin problems. Pissed my sister off pretty well.

327 > it saddens me that in this "travel ball" era

I'd just about as soon turn my kids over to Hollywood as involve them in any sport that involves "travel teams" or dedicated personal coaches. It almost never ends well for the kid, even assuming they're one of the rare kids who actually makes it into adult sports.

Maybe you've read about how they used to find young boys with good voices and then castrate them so their voices would never change. There's still a lot of classical music around with "castrato" parts.

But, you know, at some point we decided that this was barbaric and outlawed the practice, even though that meant that the "castrato" parts couldn't be sung properly any more.

Future generations are going to look on those who sacrifice their kid's childhood for sports (gymnastics, tennis, whatever) the same way we now view the parents who castrated their children for the sake of music.

It won't be a positive assessment.

I was toying a little bit about buying a former fire station in a leafy suburban neighborhood. It was built like a brick &@$thouse, the draw for me was a long (length of the building) single stall garage. It also had a deep fallout shelter. The cops used it as a firing range. Things were ... different then.

It was kind of low key and didn't really look out of place in the neighborhood. Kind of sad they deleted it for fire protection really. It had this weird looking tall column extending above the roof, I think they stored or dried the fire hoses in it or something like that.

First one is Mike Adams at Health Ranger Report from 3/31 (link goes to Brighteon). He discusses the warning from Dr. Michael Yeadon, former VP and Chief Science Officer at Pfizer, that the vaccination push may be part of a mass-scale depopulation campaign. He also mentions Dr. Sherri Tenpenny's warning to the same effect, that the Covid virus was created in order to scare people into taking these "vaccines."

Second one goes to a Dr. Tenpenny interview from 2/19 where she explains the pathogenic priming mechanism caused by the mRNA shots that will result in severe reactions the next time vaccinated people are exposed to another coronavirus.

I love the earth tube theories, and they can be "productive". ... But these Earth homes in Arizona (good solar, little moisture) are more survival than "thrival". We need to THRIVE, not just survive.

And when their solutions don't work, they just keep moving on to new ones until they find a final solution. Which is usually how they really wanted to handle things in the first place.

It greets you with a smile, a handshake and friendship.

I think I disagree. One's conscience can be used for great evil. Watch how emotional college students get about things the Right believes in. They don't *all* lack a conscience.

Their conscience has been infused and abused with lies of both omission and commission. In many cases they have been lead to believe evil is good and good is evil.

Shit, anyone who fronted for the Patriot Act were complicit in evil. They believed the lies and in the good of the people who were telling them. They didn't want to see innocent people killed for no reason. But they were fronting for evil. Is it the same as *being* evil? It's a much finer line than we want to think.

That's fair.

But the world does unfortunately present us with shades of gray in matters of right and wrong, does it not? I do not mean it's *all* subjective, far from it.

I just mean sometimes you have to weigh two "right" things against each other and the answer is not always apparent.

The way I resolve these matters is to pray on them, and I always get very good guidance. But without asking God explicitly, I am lost. Being lost doesn't mean I lack conscience, just that I'm a shitty judge and could therefore be misled.

So I would probably be more comfortable saying the requirement for evil is not having or respecting God.

I'm looking at this, and I see they do make some non-vented underwear, but they all have seams on the front in the same place. That's to make it not look like panties.

Reading about vent function, apparently the idea is, say when you're wearing a suit with you shirt tail tucked in and a belt, that you just unzip your fly and then fish Mr. Happy out through the vent. That way you don't have to undo your belt and untuck your shirt.

I've actually tried it, and find it too awkward to do all that.

I'm watching the last hour here on the left coast.

One of the things that I find interesting is this is a 1956 production, and except for some outside sets, animals, large armies, etc, probably set in Orange county when it was filmed, it was a lot like a Broadway play in how they speak their lines. Instead of movies today, with crazy special effects and visuals, or intense scenes like the Bullet or French Connection chase scenes.
The idea of how movies are created has come a long way.

Well, just be glad and hope we never get in the fix a neighbor of mine (now in his mid 70s) did. Enlarged prostate, but not cancerous. Couldn't pee one fine day.

That started him down a road of surgery and complications and wound up having his urinary sphincter shot. Open all the time, and thus dribbling constantly. He said given the choice, he'd take the latter any day.

The solution, which he resisted but finally went with, was an artificial sphincter. The control was placed in his scrotum between his balls. It uses a fluid to open and close the cuff around the urethra.

To pee, he has to actuate the control in his ball sack to open it. Then when empty, hit the control to close.

He said he pissed all over himself quite a few times until he got the hang of it. Pissed in his hand on his arm, not to mention all down his legs.

574 The googie architecture didn't originate in SoCal, that's the commercial application. Some of the oldest examples are in the South and East... It was Eero Saarinen's vision of new Church architecture, his break from his father's more austere forms. A *lot* of churches around America mimicked it in the 70s and 80s. There's almost certainly one a short distance from you.

586 Also, I shouldn't neglect to mention... Saarinen devised the idea as a means of bringing G-d and worship back to the literal center of Church architecture. He felt that Church design had become sprawling and aimless, and wanted to bring all of it's modern features into line, present but secondary to the sanctuary, which should be the focal point, soaring up to Heaven.

I was reading some ideas and proposals about Mars "space suits". They've decided that pressure suits just aren't the thing for extended working outside and so forth in the Martian great outdoors.

What they working on is basically very tight elastic suits that keep you innards compressed enough. You will have to have pressurized breathable gases in a helmet of course, but the rest of the suit will not be pressurized.

The problem is getting in and out of it from a pressurized habitats. It would be way too constrictive under pressure. They're working on that problem.

A really good investigative reporter could do a helluva story on how these congresscritters get rich. Joe Biden has been on the public payroll for 47 yrs. How did he go from a poor son of a Scranton fired miner to a multimilionaire?

Back when his Mom was still living, I think in his VP yrs, I saw pics of the Biden "compound". He had a pretty nice house as did his mother. Funny how you never see pics of that or his "beach place" he bought in recent yrs.

Hopefully Biden is going to be so bad the media will actually be forced to admit this leftist agenda is hurting America. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

610 "You don't get Easter without Christmas." Buzzion, this reminds me of my mom, and growing up Catholic. She was a church organist and choir mistress for two parishes, and I pretty much grew up in a choir loft.
The progression of the liturgical year through the cycle of the great music of the church is one of the things I miss about being non-practicing; this is a piece two of her dear friends sang every Good Friday. One was a judge, and one an old OSS guy. They sang with the rest of her friends at her funeral, and were among her pallbearers.

At our church tomorrow (in a free state) the place will be packed, we'll sing loudly, some of us (or rather some of them) will actually sing well, and we'll worship the risen Christ. There will probably be about six people with masks on, the rest of us will breathe freely!

But I think we need to have a chat about the bigger problem in this country: the socially accepted marginalization of believing Christians. This happens most noticeably in the popular culture, which rejects the Christian believer both in mission and omission.

But more importantly, it happens as a matter of course in our businesses, and our schools, and our civil courts, and in our military, and, and...

At some point, you must recognize when a population is being singled out and placed in the margins, because of religious bigotry, if you're going to prevent their persecution.

We're there, and it's high damned time that everyone speaks up against it.

621 Yudhishthira's Dice is correct. We are at a point where people will form a loony mob and go after Christian's who don't conform and bow down in the face of aggression. Just watched a video about a fairly famous children's show creator whose former child audience is so pissed that he's Christian, they're grabbing the pitchforks and lighting the fires. Now, unfortunately, he did do something mildly wrong, but the other stuff they're grabbing onto? Stupid crap (like being mad because he doesn't respond to their rage) and the video basically pushed... biased statements rather than actually discuss the issues at hand.

Sad, because I actually liked that YT channel and now it shall not be watched in the future.

The creative community is pretty much lost, aside from a few people here and there. It's highly indicative of where we're going. There are pockets of people fighting the good fight, but winning the war? Is it possible?

Only if you believe that a David vs Goliath situation can end with David winning.

636 The Bad News Bears was one of the great American movies. If I serious movie guy doesn't put it in their top 50, I have to wonder why that is. 648 Btw, not surprised that Jefferson went in for that "climatology" crap way back when. I have always considered him the original leftist democrat douchebag. The only good things he ever did were write the Declaration of Independence and the Louisiana Purchase. In all other ways he was a hypocritical, ends justifies the means -ssclown.

My opinion at least.

661 This is only the beginning. I'm afraid the persecution we're about to see will be unprecedented in North America. The pogroms are already justified in academia and supported by the silence of our fascist MSM. The open attacks on Jews and Christians will expand and wash over all patriots, all individualists, any and all who would question The Narrative. These people intend to see an enormous blood-letting, and the blood to be spilled is OURS.

664 The man is a Polish immigrant. His people survived both the Nazis and the Communists, so I'm certain he's reasonably comfortable describing them as such.

If they're acting like Nazis, they need to be described as such.

Attempting to break up a church service on Good Friday just so you can use the boot of the state to stomp on a few Christians certainly sounds like something the Nazis would do, doesn't it?

670 When I was a wee lad, I asked my mother what the meaning of Easter was. My mother is not a woman to shy away from such things; she believed that being honest with children was the best approach and not to talk down to me or my brother.

Upon reflection, she realized that explaining the crucifixion to a four-year-old was probably not the best idea.
