Killer Cuomo Assigned His Top Aides to Help (or Ghostwrite) His $4 Million Advance Book -- Public Employees Working for His Private Benefit -- While He Covered Up the Nursing Home Slaughter

Jesse McKinley, Danny Hakim and Alexandra Alter report at the (garbage-tier #Woke newsletter) NYT:

As Cuomo Sought $4 Million Book Deal, Aides Hid Damaging Death Toll

Gov. Andrew Cuomo boasted, "I am not a superhero," in early versions of his book, drafted as his aides scrubbed a politically damaging Health Department report.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- As the coronavirus subsided in New York last year, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo had begun pitching a book proposal that would center on his image as a hero of the pandemic. But by early last summer, both his book and image had hit a critical juncture.

Mr. Cuomo leaned on his top aide, Melissa DeRosa, for assistance. She attended video meetings with publishers, and helped him edit early drafts of the book. But there was also another, more pressing edit underway at the same time.

An impending Health Department report threatened to disclose a far higher number of nursing home deaths related to the coronavirus than the Cuomo administration had previously made public. Ms. DeRosa and other top aides expressed concern about the higher death toll, and, after their intervention, the number -- which had appeared in the second sentence of the report -- was removed from the final version.

The revisions occurred as the governor was on the brink of a huge payoff: a book deal that ended with a high offer of more than $4 million, according to people with knowledge of the book's bidding process.

...

Mr. Cuomo also utilized the resources of his office -- from his inner circle to far more junior personnel -- to help with the manuscript. In late June and early July, for example, a top aide to the governor, Stephanie Benton, twice asked assistants to print portions of the draft of the book, and deliver them to Mr. Cuomo at the Executive Mansion in Albany, where he lives.

...

Emails and an early draft of Mr. Cuomo's book obtained by The New York Times indicate that the governor was writing it as early as mid-June, relying on a cadre of trusted aides and junior staffers for everything from full-scale edits to minor clerical work, potentially running afoul of state laws prohibiting use of public resources for personal gain.

...

Ms. DeRosa, the highest nonelected official in Mr. Cuomo’s office, was particularly involved with the development of the book, and was present during some online pitch meetings with Mr. Cuomo. The July 5 request, in fact, was to print a 224-page draft entitled "MDR edits" -- a reference to Ms. DeRosa, who had sent the draft to Ms. Benton on July 4, according to the emails. The staffers communicated via personal Gmail accounts, not official governmental email addresses.

The Ruling Class is different than you and me.

DeRosa, of course, also served her King in a more delicate matter:

Ms. DeRosa also had significant input on the July 6 report issued by the Department of Health, which basically cleared Mr. Cuomo's administration of fault in its handling of nursing homes -- discounting the impact of a March 2020 state memo that had asked such facilities to take in or readmit residents who had tested positive for the disease.

Publishing houses are now mostly money-laundering operations to pay money to Democrat politicians:

Crown declined to comment on the sale price or confirm that it slightly exceeded $4 million, a large sum for an author whose previous memoir, "All Things Possible," from 2014, sold fewer than 4,000 hardcover copies.

We need a law (and a law in every state) that specified high-level government officials can only be paid by publishers on a per-book royalty basis. No more $10 million advances for books that sell 4000 copies. If you sell 4000 copies, you get your 10% or 15% on each of those copies.

The tolerated system of open graft by politicians taking money from gigantic media conglomerates must no longer be tolerated.

By the way, Cuomo's ninth accuser released a photo of Cuomo grabbing her by the cheeks and kissing her, which she says was against her will. She says she felt "manhandled."

She was seeking... state aid after a flood damaged her home.

And Cuomo, naturally, exercised his rights of prima noctae.

@GwynneFitz

Mar 29

Vill says Cuomo came to her town of Greece, New York when her home flooded in 2017. Cuomo asked to tour her flood-damaged home she shares with husband and kids. Cuomo forcibly kissed her on the cheek several times, and said "you are beautiful."

Gwynne Hogan
@GwynneFitz

"I felt embarrassed and weird," she says, adding she felt "manhandled." She then got a then got a call from a staffer who invited her to an event in town but not the rest of his family. "I know the difference between an innocent gesture and a sexual one."

It's good to be the king!

By the way, I have never seen History of the World Part 1. I haven't even seen more than a few minutes of it.

But I feel like I know the whole movie, because friends were always quoting it.

Pretty sure Ms. DeRosa also has two family members who are lobbyists for healthcare.hospitals that directly benefitted from Cuomo and DeRosa deciding to force covid-infected into nursing homes instead of hospitals.

DeRosa co-wrote a book that she and her family will use to assert that they did nothing wrong.

45 As always, this is molehills turning into mountains when the correct spin is applied. Although Cuomo's sexual misconduct is inexcusable, he has long been a bastion of progressive change and a liberator to the downtrodden. His use of public employees on a personal project, if it is a crime or unethical at all, is so trivial that is is astonishing that anyone is wasting column inches on it. It is no different in essence and barely different in degree than using the company's office supplies and mailing services to send a letter or mail in your utility payments.

The constant focus on irrelevant minutiae to detract from material progress is a common tactic of the less savory agents in our public discourse. It is vital to be always on guard against it, and to never contribute to it ourselves.

It's not done to make a legitimate profit. It's done to pay a bribe without the appearance of paying a bribe.

Say you want to give a million bucks to Dopey Joe. You get with your buddy at Random Penguin or whatever, and he offers Dopey Joe a million dollar "book deal".

When the book comes out, you buy a zillion copies (as previously arranged with your buddy at Random Penguin). Dopey Joe gets his money. Random Penguin gets its money. You get whatever you were bribing Dopey Joe to do.

79 Cuomo will not be forced to resign, nor will he be impeached and removed, He can hang on, and he will. He will likely not be re-elected, but he's not going anywhere. The op will turn out to have been successful.

Cuomo is in the wrong faction. While the Dems and the deep state generally was fighting for dominance, the factions were all aligned. Now that they have won, the factions will war with each other until one of them dominates without question. This is a normal and entirely predictable progression.

Cuomo's faction is out of favor. He's a gangster, like the Clinton Crew, the Kennedys, Pelosi, Schumer, etc. The gangsters are the target of the stronger binary factions of the Maoists (the Squad, Obama, etc.) and the Marxists (Warren, Sanders, etc.). The Marxists are the weak sister in the group, and they will be destroyed by the Maoists as soon as the communist binary finishes off the gangsters. All of the gangsters that could conceivably threaten the communist binary are being purged. Thus, bye-bye Cuomo.

The closest we've gotten to the Platonic Ideal of the monster movie is probably Pacific Rim.

The ideal would be to just have giant monsters hitting each other for two hours straight with no human characters at all. Including the humans as part of the monster fight with the jaegers was the middle ground between the normal and the ideal.

The entire Regal chain was shut down until this month, April. CA and NY finally opened their theaters a few weeks ago.

People want out of their houses with stuff to do, and theaters are one of those things. The rumor of the death of movie theaters has been greatly exaggerated.

167 Is it wrong of me to not give a shit about these "incidents"? I think we know that the long knives are out for Cuomo but they can't use the excessive covid deaths in nursing homes due to his policies as the reason. So this is the weak sauce they've got.
I guess tawdry sells better, but most of these incidents are creepy, not criminal.

Now using government resources for personal business might actually have some legal legs. We'll see.

In 2018. . .[Cuomo] got a last minute $1m cash infusion from the General New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), a powerful NY healthcare lobbying group that represents hospitals and nursing homes.
-
On April 2, 2020, [Cuomo] quietly signed legislation shielding hospital and nursing home executives from any lawsuits stemming from the Covid-19 outbreak.
-
Another GNYHA lobby firm is Bolton-St Johns, which . . . Giorgio DeRosa, Joseph DeRosa, and Jessica Davos - the father, brother and sister of Cuomo's top aide, Melissa DeRosa. Giorgio DeRosa is described on Bolton's website as a partner and the firm's "chief Albany lobbyist". GNYHA pays the firm $24,000 a month to lobby on budget/appropriations issues, according to state records.

187 how many copies do you need to sell to profit on a $4 million book advance?

Well the price of a new book on the shelf right now is about $17, and the publisher gets around 60% of that (with about 20% going to the author -- of which the Agent gets a chunk of). After expenses, that's probably about 30%, so about $5 bucks a book goes to their pockets.

So my really rough estimate is around 800,000 copies.

by comparison it takes about 1,000 sales a day to make the NYT best seller list

So a pretty big best seller, better than average, to sell 800,000 copies a year. But of course most contracts are for 3-5 years, so you have a while to get there.

But its extremely unlikely that a politician bio is going to pull in those kind of sales.

240 214 serious question. If you have someone on the ground, how long do you have between checks. If there is no policy, what is the reasonable expectation. In a psych setting we had 10 minutes to wrap things up and get vitals after a take down, including the mechanical restraint applications. In residential settings a hold could last 30 minutes, but a second person had to monitor respiratory status.

All key demoncrats get "lucrative book deals, with huge advances."

After that, one of two things happen:
1. The book doesn't sell, but they keep the advance and Soros (etc.) buy enough to cover it.
2. George Soros and his ilk buy millions and millions more copies and dispose of them. Put them on the shelf, etc., thus funneling even more money to the intended recipient.

The one thing that DOESN'T happen: anyone reads it. Seriously, nobody ever reads Hillary's, Barry's, etc. book. Would you?

They're not meant to be read; they're meant to funnel campaign dollars around, bypassing the campaign finance laws.

I doubt that that is a thing. Addicts hate getting hit with narcan. Narcan bonds with the opiate receptors and blocks all opiates so they go from high as hell to complete withdrawals in seconds. There is a real problem with people ODing a second time after narcan because they immediately shoot up again to avoid the withdrawals but narcan has a shorter half life than opiates and the original opiates are still in their system so they can end up doing 1.5 or more of the dose they meant to.

329 I doubt that that is a thing.
Posted by: Harry Paratestes at April 01, 2021 11:52 AM (UPoLF)

Expectations hurt in this regard, too. One of the reasons OD rates are very high after addicts get out of jail is they go get high on the same quantity they needed to use before drying out a bit - or even worse, a bit more to make up for lost time - and BOOM. OD, because tolerances are very different now.

In our PsyOp war, situational awareness would have gotten him in a better position than blankly staring at those recording him. -- We will see if such "negligence" (in failing to recognize the ability of such clips to destroy lives and communities, and a nation) ends up putting Chauvin in prison for life.

I think it was the Berenstein Bears or something like that. I hated those books. Everything the fault of the stupid ass father.

I had really remembered reading an interview of Hawking that occurred after his death. And watching a video of Tom Petty talking about the death of Bob Dylan. Weirded me out.

I guess what I'm trying to say that women tend to not do well in certain positions because they are going against their programming, and thus will over compensate by being mean and barky.

406 So.....

Who is the NYT looking to promote as the next governor of New York?

Because Cuomo was their anointed one - until he wasn't.

And now that Trump is out and they can't say mean things about the Vegetable or Round Heels, there isn't anyone around to be the next punching bag.

All of the major pols in NY are Democrats.

Maybe.
But the working class in the UK always LOATHED Thatcher, while the working class--or elements of it--still vote Democrat.

That is ok. Maybe the Tammany Machine is in charge. But it is healthy for democracy when a Dem has to leave office. It shows that there is at least a fig leaf of fair play in our politics.

Again, a civil war doesn't bother me. We desperately need one.

BUT, considering the morality of this country as it stands now, what scares the shit out of me is all the people that would be killing just for the sake of killing.

417 There is a real problem with people ODing a second time after narcan because they immediately shoot up again to avoid the withdrawals but narcan has a shorter half life than opiates and the original opiates are still in their system so they can end up doing 1.5 or more of the dose they meant to.

Which is to say, easily emotionally manipulated. I often hear from female Liberal acquaintances about candidates, "I like what he/she says".

Well, no kidding. What they say is calculated to make you like it, but what is it that this person has actually, objectively achieved?

Pete Butterjug is an excellent example.

419 no real consequences, typical GOPe theatrics. Senate adjourned and killed the bill. I can't believe people aren't more pissed off by the fact the governor reached out to corporations for their approval before even pushing the bill. Kemp was mad because Delta backtracked. WTH do bills to protect the integrity of a Constitutional right need approval from corporations?

Every time I visit costco, make a stop at their book table and dutifully bury any and all copies of the earflaps and mike "auto" biographies under whatever books are handy.

Infantile? Stupid? Of course. But Civic Duties often seem so.

If your bluray has internet connection, the disc can send a signal back to the manufacturer that its being played, and a response signal can come back blocking play, kinda like Cinavia protection. Ain't tech grand!? Ya never own anything.
