I got the first dose of the vaccine this week. I didn't have a choice of which one; I got the Pfizer.

Here's me, Living My Best Life:

I didn't think I had any post-immunization side-effects but 48 hours after the dose I noticed those "flu-like" symptoms they told me I might get. General feeling of muscular and mental weakness/fogginess. Nothing horrible, but I definitely wasn't at 100%. (Not that that's out-of-the-ordinary.) If I had been at work, I probably would have asked to go home early, if I could.

I got it because I generally am pro-vaccine and pro-anything medical, really, and because I was very sick through multiple periods last year, and I definitely do not want a major illness. Even if it's non-fatal, covid's often very tough.

Sometimes it's not-- Kurt Schichter had it, and said he had the symptoms of a mild to moderate cold. His wife had it worse, at the level of a bad, persistent cold. But nothing actually serious -- just miserable.

Who else has gotten the jab? Anyone else have side effects?

On to GAINZZZ: I have moderate GAINZZZ.

Over the two weeks of my new commitment to keto (not half-assed dirty keto/almost not keto that I was doing before), I had weak GAINZZZ. I lost maybe 2 1/2 or 3 pounds (at most) over two weeks. I guess that's okay weight loss but it's nothing terrific.

So I started a semi-fast on Sunday (having bone broth, cream in coffee, and some Whisps parmesan chips, keeping total calories consumed to below 500 or 600). I've had better GAINZZZ fasting, of course, dropping three pounds or a bit more in five days.

I'm in the high-energy state of keto. If you're overweight and haven't tried keto (low carb), you should give it a shot for a couple of weeks, if only for the really unbelievable levels of energy you have from ketones. It's not a small effect, not one that just might be psychosomatic. It's a definite, real, and large effect.

I know eventually this passes. Not that you have less energy, but you stop noticing the new energy, because it's just routine after a while.

Right now I'm noticing it a lot. I'm practically hyperactive.

I'm going to take inspiration from this:

A big fat pig with a big low-hanging belly to a fat farm to lose weight.

Note: Every word of that sentence was literal and accurate.

The pig needs to lose 110 pounds. He's only lost 55 by the end of the video.

But that's halfway there.

6 I've been stacking up cardio gainz with all this great weather.

Glad to hear the keto diet is going well. I've incorporated a vegetarian only dinner on Mondays to shake things up. It's been a good source of fiber, vitamins, protein, and it's cheap on the wallet too.

I felt flush in the post jab waiting room, and had a mild headache but nothing outside of what I normally feel in terms of weakness, though thanks to the stem cell transplant a year and a half ago I has a lot of weakness most the time anyway.

Hubby and I spent the morning in the wood, harvesting hickory and ash for next winter's wood pile. Good, honest work, lots of lifting and hauling through the trails.

21 J and J experimented on me, with their one and done jab about three weeks ago. My skin has not yet molted.
I felt a mild physical sense of not being completely right and also had a slight headache for the afternoon after getting the dose, but was perfectly fine the next day.
Now I'm ready to rock and roll.

We were well hydrated and ate the bland food diet before and after. All of us sailed through shot #1 with no need for meds (only one of us had the "owwy" arm, but it wasn't bad enough to medicate).

On to shot #2. I have a week of anti-inflammatory and bland food coming, and a whole bunch of tea with ginger, water, and soup (the secret to keeping the side effects down as much is possible is to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

40 Down to 232 this morning. Since I'm a cat-lick, I can't eat meat on Fridays, so I had some cheese, tea with cream, and two bags of steamed broccoli with melted butter. I figure I can keep up a pattern of semi-fasting on M,W,F, with lots of meat and veggies on T,Th and then a relaxed attitude on the weekends. I did that last year and dropped to 214.

Only went to the gym once this week, but I'll go tonight and run on the treadmill. I've found that if I work out too much I have too many cravings to eat, so I'm going to limit myself to lifting twice a week, running or long walks three times a week.

Since work is slow I need to get back into a routine of working on professional development stuff (python, qgis, VBE).

44 I've lost 70 pounds on keto, but I'm going through several variations of intermittent fasting to see which ones works best to lose the last few stubborn pounds. The 20/4 (fast for 20 hours, eat within a 4 hour window) was disastrous, where i gained 6 pounds, now trying alternative day fasting, but it only helped me dropped that 6 pounds I gained, so still stuck.

I think my keto has been too dirty, been having keto chocolates with soluble corn fiber, and that can stall things if you eat too much of it.

64 I got my first dose of Pfizer last week. No Krispy Kreme (or any donut, for that matter). My wife and son also got the jab the same day.

There was a little soreness at the injection site, but nothing too bad. 48 hours later, both my wife and I had nausea and vomiting. I'm not 100% sure it was a reaction to the vaccine, but can't rule it out, either.

66 I have secured the metal to weld a stand for my 30" smoker, so that I don't have to kneel anymore to screw with it. And I taught myself to actually weld - MIG, and it's flux-core, so not the prettiest - but the joints look fine and you can't beat them apart with a 3 lb. hammer. Using a pretty basic Hobart 140, and a pair of saw horses with a kinda' flat piece of quarter plate for a table.

I will have the main piece - salvaged 1" grating - blasted. I know a shop that will run it through for me for nothing. And then I will weld, weld, and weld some more. Then paint. And paint again. Then enjoy a 2' by 4' table upon which my smoker sits, on which I can pull my fire box and sit it down upon, and still not squat. Which will make me happy.

71 I finally took a blacksmithing class last weekend, after a break of about a year and a half, but I didn't stay for the second day. I wasn't feeling well, and the class honestly didn't interest me. I think it was the instructor's teaching style. I'm going to check out the local blacksmith association here and see what else is available, but I probably won't sign up for anything else until the mask requirements are gone.

What I really want to do is sign up for art classes this summer, since I miss drawing or painting. That, and take some violin lessons to start trying to learn that again.

86 I would only say the jab isn't for everyone and the studies don't cover all medical conditions with any consistency. For example, if you're a stroke patient or inclined to those issues, the vaccine has shown in some patients an increase in coagulation. It's a small sample, but it's still there. Some note that getting COVID also seriously increases coagulation. But that's only in serious hospitalization cases. So if you weigh the options and your general risk of contraction/demo group is low. Wait until more data is available.

100 I got it because I generally am pro-vaccine and pro-anything medical, really, and because I was very sick through multiple periods last year, and I definitely do not want a major illness. Even if it's non-fatal, covid's often very tough.

I am still dithering on getting it because there is a miniscule chance I may have a very negative reaction. But my doctor is encouraging me to do so because it will be another layer of protection for my parents (they've had their shots). So I don't know.

As far as books, I got my copy of Way of Kings Prime and it's absolutely fascinating. The key characters in Way of Kings, and the entire Stormlight Archive really, aren't even in the book. In the intro Sanderson discusses how he was rejected from everything because his books were too long and stop focusing on magic and make Earth like worlds so he said screw it I'm going to make the world I want.

I think it worked out okay for him.

Bookz -- Finishing up a didactic work from 1790 called "The History of Sandford and Merton". It's a children's book, so naturally it's about 300 pages and written at a modern college level.

Planz -- To get back to lifting this weekend. Cardio's been going good, time to add on.

Projectz -- Finishing my rewrite of "Lair of the White Worm" for the late Bram Stoker.

The pinball machine project is stalled while I try to find a playfield from the right era. (My starting point is going to be to reskin a Mata Hari or something of that ilk.)

Tuesday morning, found out I would have to be swabbed again, after waiting around for 5 hours to tell me this.
Needless to say, I was not a happy camper, and I let the nurses know this.
So I was swabbed again and had to wait another hour for the results.

Had I tested positive, I would not have had the back surgery.

I used to ride sanctioned enduro and observed trials events (Montessa Coda 307). I hung up my riding boots a few years ago - due to almost killing myself by unintentionally riding off a small cliff (walked away from it unhurt,) (saw god.)

While out an about today I happened to see a motorhome stopped at an intersection and they had a Repsol trials bike mounted on a rear bumper carrier - which led to a flood of happy emotions.
PS: It's a super rare thing to see trials motorcycles outside of events

142 Ace, got my shot on Wednesday. Was ok that day. Started feeling punky yesterday, definitely off my game. A little better today. I work from home but if I was in office, I would have gone home yesterday. Arm is swollen. I get a flu shot every year and tetanus boosters when needed. This is definitely different and more. The skin on my arm feels burned and scraped. But, that's not the story. The lady two ahead of me in line on Wed got her shot, sat down, threw up and passed out. The pharmacy sprang into action, very impressed with their response. Cleaned her up, called the CVS and CDC and the whole nine yards. Apparently there is a protocol in place for what they are expected to do immediately. I only know this because I eavesdropped. She was in her early 30s.

I have avoided it for too long. About two years ago I had an occasional sore tooth and after I got it taken care of my health improved drastically. It was no big deal (just a filling,) but before I got it fixed I was very sick for about a week. Maybe coincidence, or maybe my body was working too hard fighting the infection in the tooth.

I think cavities can really harm health without being obvious. Take good care of your teeth for health Gainzzzz.

375 My husband and I had the last of two shots (Pfizer) last week. He only had a sore arm. I had that - no big deal - plus had a flushed face directly after getting the second shot, for maybe 7 minutes. We are older than your average bear, and old people apparently have fewer side effects anyway.

I don't know if I was more tired than usual, because I helped myself to a nice pre-emptive nap after each shot. Maybe there were a few times I didn't feel so good during the first week, but that's true anytime, so maybe not connected.

As for GAINZZZ, yes I did gain weight over the past year! I was quite dispirited missing my tap class (which started back up in August - here in Georgia), then having to decline again to be in the recital this May. Because of having a new grandbaby, I have been very cautious. But I started back exercising this past month, and thoroughly intend to be back in dance this coming August.

390 Finally finished Tower of Skulls by Richard Frank. I give it a three, he really couldn't keep my attention. His book Guadalcanal was much better. Also just finished The Army at Dawn by Rick Atkinson. Very good, so I just ordered the other two in the trilogy. Right now I'm reading Lion Rampant by Robert Woollcombe and find it very interesting. He's Scots so he drops some terms I'm really not familiar with, but his descriptions of the fighting in Normandy are very vivid and enjoyable. My WWII collection continues to grow. I hope when I go, somebody puts it where it will do some good, and I don't mean the trash heap.

I am pretty sure that the FBI/DOJ are required by their own rules, that when asked, they must either confirm or deny that someone is currently under investigation....otherwise they risk being charged with "cloud of suspicion" related issues if the person wasn't under investigation but it was strongly suggested by vague statements that he was and that simply was not the case.

I am pretty sure the DOJ/FBI cannot hide or seek cover under some vague "we can't talk about that" only because a citizen's civil rights would be involved and possibly violated by the US Government in suggesting vaguely that wrong doing is being investigated when that is not case.

But it is not old school! An old school vaccine is a dead or weakened version of the actual virus. J&J uses a live but harmless virus to get your cells to make the spike protein to which you are to become immune. Pfe and Moderna use mRNA to get your cells to produce the spike proteins. So the mechanism is a little different, but either way your cells make the spike protein.

I find that it works relatively well for about 20% of your body weight and then your body appears to adjust and it becomes very difficult to continue losing weight. You will have to start a calorie restricted diet to lose any more. I've verified this with several others on a Keto diet. They all had a similar experience. My motivation is seeing a donut since I haven't had one in 18 months. Just 15 more pounds!

422 I was diagnosed with Covid on 2/15. I had two days where I was very sick and it took about 2 to 3 weeks to return to feeling normal. During that time I was sleeping 2-4 hours more a night than I normally slept. I got Covid from my Dad, who I visited in Naples, FL the week before my diagnosis. He ended up dying from it on 2/26. He was overweight and had COPD and emphysema, so Covid was not a good hand for him to be dealt. My Mom also tested positive for Covid and had virtually no symptoms. I got first dose of Pfizer about 10 days ago. I had a Covid flashback for about 2.5 days following the stab, but it wasn't nearly as intense as when I was sick with Covid.

My only point, the symptomatic expression of Covid seems to vary quite a bit.

424 All of us are in a testing protocol for the new Wuhan Death Cooties drugs. The new drug prevents a disease almost as serious as a paper cut (unless you are immune-compromised, obese or elderly). Like most testing protocols, some of us get the drug and some get the placebo. I'm in the placebo group. Good luck to the rest of you.
