The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"We just see the tip of the iceberg. You don't know who you're hurting. You think you're protecting the consumer and turns out you're bankrupting a co-op or a city. And so it's dangerous, after something is run, to go around and redo it." Texas PUC Chairman Arthur D'Andrea

How much would you like to wager that this c*cksu*cker isn't looking at a 4 to 5 digit power bill.

Quote II

By firing her, President Biden has once again signaled his administration’s deep-seated antipathy to religious liberty wherever such liberty clashes with the pet politics of Democrats. The Faith & Freedom Coalition

Quote III

I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder. Gilbert K. Chesterton

Quote IV

Meanwhile, in real-life France, working-class women are losing their freedom to leave the house due to Muslim hooligans feeling ever more entitled to catcall and paw at women they deem dressed immodestly by the standards of the Iron Age cultures they brought with them.Steve Sailer

Are you worried that Uncle Paste Eatin' Joe isn't up to being the Resident of the White House? You are not alone........

Fear not Americans we are getting ready for the Kamala "The San Francisco Headhunter" Harris show.

Doddery old Joe Biden isn't even trying to hide it anymore. His gaffes and garble are soaring to orbit. The faraway look in his eyes is growing dimmer. The public is noticing.

He called himself a transition president. He presumably joked that he'd resign if he ever disagreed with Harris. But much sooner than anyone thought, a Hollywood style starlet build-up for Vice President Kamala Harris is beginning as if to prepare the public for his replacement.

Start with this International Women's Day tweet from someone at the controls of the Twitter account of senile old Joe

Blogger David Thompson regularly skims Scary Mommy so you don't have to. That doesn't mean I won't bring some tidbits your way.

Exemplary Beings
Time for a quick flick through Scary Mommy, where left-leaning ladies are “supporting each other through laughter and empowerment.”

I have clinical anxiety.

But of course.

My current fixation happens to be a home invasion… My house is nigh on impossible, according to my husband, to break into. However, I can’t stop thinking about it.

No explanation is offered by the author, Elizabeth Broadbent, as to possible causes, but the fixation with “scary men breaking into my home” entails lots of weeping - “tears and breakdowns” are a recurring theme - and the purchase of many things.

My husband has had to buy any number of security items. A raging liberal who believes no one has any reason to own anything but a permitted shotgun for hunting, I’ve contemplated buying a pistol. These thoughts will not go away… So I down another Klonopin and wait.

Oh, come on. It’s Scary Mommy. You knew some kind of mood-stabilising medication would crop up sooner or later. Other unhappy preoccupations include recurring thoughts of an expired husband:

I laid in bed imagining different ways he could meet his demise.

And,

After the birth of my third son, I became convinced that his head would fall off.

Okay, then.

That’s when… they upped my meds.

Who died and made Houston's police chief, Art Acevedo, God? Everything is bigger in Texas including assholes.

Texans who violate businesses' mask policies can still be arrested even after the end of the statewide mask mandate, Houston's police chief, Art Acevedo, said Tuesday.

If customers refuse to wear a mask after being asked by a business, they can also be barred from entering the premises for "at least a year," he told CNBC's "The News with Shepard Smith."

Gov. Greg Abbott lifted Texas' statewide mask mandate Wednesday, making Texas the largest state yet to do so.

An interesting crime drama/story........Is she alive and has the nic "Hop-A-Long" or is she dead?

A missing Australian woman accused of fraud may have severed her own foot to trick police into thinking she is dead, police have claimed.

Melissa Caddick, 49, from Sydney vanished on November 11 last year, the day after the country's corporate watchdog ASIC executed a search warrant for her luxury £3million (AUD $6.1 million) home.

She is accused of swindled more than £14 million (AUD $25million) worth of investors' funds, and leaving 68 victims of fraud in her wake.

When it comes to cool gadgets. The US Armed Forces have some nifty ones.

The U.S. Army’s new goggles can help soldiers see right through the walls of combat vehicles, which means infantry troops will have unparalleled situational awareness.

✈ You love badass military tech. So do we. Let’s nerd out over this stuff together.
The Army is developing its Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) goggles for close-combat forces, including mounted and dismounted troops, particularly infantry. The service hopes to field tens of thousands of the goggles, which can also help soldiers see in the dark, check around corners, and even project digital maps and other data onto the lenses.

Poll: Trust In U.S. Military Nosediving…

Via Military Times:

Trust in the U.S. military has decreased significantly in recent years, but armed forces still remain among the most respected institutions in the country, according to a new public opinion poll released by the Ronald Reagan Institute this week.

Well lookey here. The chickens vultures have come home to roost.

The Miseducation of America’s Elites

Affluent parents, terrified of running afoul of the new orthodoxy in their children’s private schools, organize in secret.

The dissidents use pseudonyms and turn off their videos when they meet for clandestine Zoom calls. They are usually coordinating soccer practices and carpools, but now they come together to strategize. They say that they could face profound repercussions if anyone knew they were talking.

But the situation of late has become too egregious for emails or complaining on conference calls. So one recent weekend, on a leafy street in West Los Angeles, they gathered in person and invited me to join.

In a backyard behind a four-bedroom home, ten people sat in a circle of plastic Adirondack chairs, eating bags of Skinny Pop. These are the rebels: well-off Los Angeles parents who send their children to Harvard-Westlake, the most prestigious private school in the city.

The ONT Musical Interlude

Side 1 is finished. Eject and start side 2. RIP Lou Ottens.

The Dutch engineer credited with inventing the audio cassette has died. Lou Ottens was 94.

As head of product development for Philips in 1960, he led a team that developed the initial portable tape recorder; he then introduced the first cassette tape at a Berlin electronics fair three years later. The slogan back then: "Smaller than a pack of cigarettes!"

My first cassette, I believe it was a "cut-out". Get off my lawn...........

Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

An armed person stopped an attempted burglary in Atlanta this week, police said.

On March 8 around 3:03 p.m., officers responded to a Chik-fil-A on Peachtree Street.

“Upon arrival, officers spoke with witnesses who stated a black male walked inside, produced a firearm and demanded money from several employees. The employees fled and the suspect exited the business a short time later. Several nearby citizens confronted the suspect as he was leaving. One of the citizens was armed and at some point, during the confrontation, the citizen fired several shots. The suspect ran on foot and was apprehended nearby, by the citizens and held until police arrived,” the Atlanta Police Department said in a preliminary update sent to The Epoch Times.

“The suspect’s weapon was recovered. No one was struck by the gunfire and charges are pending against the robbery suspect. No charges have been filed against the citizen and the investigation continues,” the department added.

The suspect was identified as Willie Gloston IV, 23. The arrest report does not show an address for Gloston.

It really would have been a great story if the perp had been subdued by a high speed projectile.

100 Re: Houston, as I noted in an earlier thread when Texas lifts its mask mandate it's not going to suddenly be no masks anywhere, all day errday. It's going to be like most of the populated states that never had one, i.e. a confusing morass of cities, counties, and individual sites all having their own policies and various levels of enforcement. Yes, I realize that SD took a different path but SD also has about ten people living in the entire state.

Eventually it will, I think. But it's not going to be overnight. Institutional inertia is definitely a thing, especially with social connections like theirs.

For now, I'm just doing what I can in the established schools. I blew a lot of students' minds today when talking about the Harlem Renaissance; I mentioned the hatred and racial slurs many native-born blacks had for the Caribbean immigrants, calling them "black Jews" and "monkey-chasers" and so on. I don't think it had occurred to some of them that black people might display racial bigotry toward other minorities.

He has completely swallowed the scamdemic lie and thinks we are the ones that are spreading this disease throughout the entire country because we don't wear a mask and won't get the shot. I just can't get it through his head that it isn't the disease we should worry about but the power grab and the attempt to control the peons by the ones in charge. 242 I believe you can blame corporations (like you can blame them for nearly everything) for the collapse of good "pop" music. Remember grunge? It was the last "artist-driven" music, and as artists often do, the leading creators imploded or stopped producing for differing reasons once they hit the financial jackpot..the music corporations got annoyed and figured out if they could just sell the new kids on music that could be produced by producers, to a schedule, and fronted by replaceable and disposable frontpeople, they wouldn't have any more product shortages. Hence the rise of factory rap and dance pop. If course, this meant many fewer kids grew up wanting to be rock stars, and that's why the traditional cycle ended.

Acreage either will have an existing production sized shop, or I'll put one up. Given the right shop space & tools, I can manufacture at least one Utility Trailer per week, even without a helper. And I know where to get good, straight, salvaged steel for far less than new.

250 "Non GMO!" Popcorn is a marketing gimmick, because none of it is GMO to begin with. Just like brake fluid, every flavor of DOT 3 or DOT 4 says "synthetic" on the label now. What they don't tell you, all brake fluid is synthetic and always has been.

What you want with popcorn is what they call in the trade "butterfly" popcorn. It's more tender and flavorful than the movie popcorn, which is selected for its sturdier kernals and ability to be bagged and shipped when sold retail. It won't fall apart. There's some eBay sellers that have some good popcorn at a decent price. I eat more of it than I should but as a snack there are worse.

I'll be afield again this weekend, looking at acreage. I've dismissed the idea of owning rentals, now that deadbeat tenants can't be evicted. And I really, really don't see any foreseeable end to that clusterfuck of a situation.

Acreage either will have an existing production sized shop, or I'll put one up. Given the right shop space & tools, I can manufacture at least one Utility Trailer per week, even without a helper. And I know where to get good, straight, salvaged steel for far less than new.

but - things happen that we can never see in advance, that we don't have enough imagination to picture. The world is never a straight line, and who knows what tomorrow will bring.

There's a lot of cheap-ass commercial pine being grown and harvested in places. Mostly in the South. But no one wants to cut the good timber, better to let it burn up in forest fires caused by a refusal to tend the federal and state forests properly. Today did not seem any different than yesterday. Part of that is that businesses haven't changed their policies (although I understand HEB and state government offices no longer have masks), but part of that is that Abbott was formalizing what people were already doing. Outdoor masks were rare, for example. I think it's more of a gradual shift than a milestone.

The other is I thought Hillary was inevitable and was pleasantly surprised by Trump's arrival. I knew he was our best chance at beating her. I also thought the only way he would lose to her was through fraud (go figure).

He's still our best chance because I don't think anyone else has the spine or stomach for it. And defeatism is a very sane coping mechanism for what just happened to us.

The song "wild" is my favorite on the album:
Leaving the perfume of all you adore
To die nameless on my floor

That part about being hunted means something different in the book. And of course the 5 and 1/2 minute hallway is directly from the book.

It really is an interesting album in that it's assembled using some audio recordings her and her brother found from their dad after he died. So its kind of a last chance for her to say goodbye I love you. At the same time its following the multilayered events and characters in her brother's creepy existential book. And it all worked and it's beautiful.

510 Yeah, it did, at that. You know, in the Art Thread this morning, I posted a link to the Spike Jones "soundie" (essentially a music video on film) of "Pass the Biscuits, Mirandy". near the end of the video, the actress playing Mirandy straddles a cannon, and practically dry-humps it. Quite raunchy, given the time. Entertaining video, too.

That's a funny thing. For some reason we think of early music or movies as being somehow prudish and prim, but we forget all about Mae West and the reason they finally decided to start coding movies for appropriateness. Some of that old stuff was positively raunchy. People don't change all that much.

Exactly. It appears to me that he wants to appear sympathetic to them so as not to trivialize what they suffered, but then he's calling them liars. There's an interesting psychological twist to it though, how it can be gut-wrenching if it never happened.

536 I realize there's probably some folks who were effected by this and I really do sympathize and am angry that it happened.

That said as people here got all on PA's case cause of how the election was stolen and blamed all of us in PA for it happening and somehow the election loss was our fault, I say to those folks in Texas: what did you think could happen with the power scheme you all allowed to be voted in?

It's right there in black and white how they can do this sort of thing and other people advised them not to do it but they chose to go this way. For those on top it meant a lucrative deal and meant they wouldn't have to argue about building more power plants that actually will carry the load. And some did it out of zeal for their worship of the earth and hatred of all things human.

Whatever. Solar a and wind cannot suffice for reliable power. Buying power at market rates during an emergency is a very dangerous policy as we see. That power needed to be deregulated was because of the greed of the power companies. Did anyone expect they'd go for a system that could hurt them?

Maybe Texans learned a hard lesson but it can be applied to other places.

542 The first thing any business that is publicly regulated by law is to buy off the regulators. It's just common sense.

Every PUC or other type of regulatory commission is full of thieves.

Sometimes they manage to get their own people on the boards before the law ink is even dry.

And they definitely pay off every commision. Maybe not every member. There are some honest people. But all they need on these commisions is a spoiler or too to keep things from being done by voting against them and causing a draw so nothing can get done.

OR they have a couple who submit the rules they want or prices and those people influence the rest.

Anyone who doesn't know this happens is living in a dream world.

they took over the schools and other institutions while we focused on national elections. When Trump won, Republicans were at an historical zenith, though I had my concerns. I wasn't sure how this would play out to be honest. For some reason it had the feeling of a "High Water Mark" and not a transformation of the the country. I still say the election of 2018 was the key vote. Sure there was cheating, no doubt there. But that was the election when you had to do the follow-through. Anyone who has studied the ACW or really any war of that era knows the initial break is one thing, but it is the follow-through that matters; and often it peters out.

It's real bullshit.

With Joe The Paste-Eater becoming obviously unable to field questions from reporters, I think a lot of Democrats are starting to realize that they've been politically-rufied; they though they'd get Joe, and they're about to wake up to Kammie.

I say the time Trump supporters should have followed through was 2018. Sure they showed up in 2020 after a lot of damage was done. At that point it was a numbers game. And after seeing a lot of inner cities and wealthy suburbs, the numbers game alone won't work for us. It it is very difficult for people to admit they were wrong politically. It is like admitting you are not an above average driver, able to handle booze better than others, are great in bed, or a better than average golfer. It is funny that people will never check themselves on certain things. Politics is right up there with the number of people who think they are great drivers.

553 The Texas situation strikes me as a lot less complicated than some want to make it. We had an extreme winter weather event of historical proportions. Even with that, we'd have been able to generate enough power if we had been allowed an emergency waiver of federal environmental regs to deal with the shortage. The feds disallowed that. So whatever other problems there are, and I am happy to see those addressed too, we should have been fine. But as usual heavy-handed government screwed things up.

The time I really started to wonder about Texas was during the later stages of the Iraq War, not the Gulf War ,but the Iraq War. There was a small town in South Texas that boycotted a gas station from Exxon. It wasn't Citgo as they should have done, but one of the major US oil companies. I did not understand that. The cities are where most believe in government because they have little else to believe in. Also, the numbers of voters are so fungible, they can play with that. But if you ask me honestly if there is a "Silent Majority", today, I can't tell you I do. There was one for a long time, even while dullards elected Dems for some reason. But today, not so much. The only chance I can see is extreme voter turnout, people who will focus like lasers on school boards etc, and really about twenty other things. there is no question a lot of damage has been done. And if you look at it holistically, really everyone is at fault. There was a point conservatives simply gave up or decided not to fight. But in the end, many kids should sue their teachers AND look side eyed at their parents. No way the youth of this country becomes majority ultra leftist and woke without the parents at least being complicit by benign neglect.

I was having a conversation last night with one of my friends. Seems that the dems are rushing headlong to find new ways to get lots of votes- illegals, prisoners, 16-year olds, refusal to purge voter rolls, etc. Seems to me that they are looking for legitimate voters to replace the fraudulent ballots that have been cast for years, if not decades. I think they know they went too far in the last election and that the evidence is catching up with them. Patrick Byrnes' Deepcapture article was stunning to me.

Salty,
I told Her Majesty that, strictly speaking, she didn't have to show dogs. You can imagine how well that argument went over.

But her car has nearly 300,000 miles on it, though it's in good condition. Had we bought a new car, the monthly payments would be about the same as the RV. Plus, she still would have been staying in hotels, which have gotten more expensive and worse in quality. So what she's saving in rooming is actually more than a monthly payment.

As well, there's a safety/security issue. When you stay on site, you're in a little community of people you see at most shows. You may be trying to beat each others brains out in the ring, but exhibitors look out for each other otherwise.

Her Majesty can now go to a show site, set her own equipment up in a more salubrious location and not have to commute back and forth. She can groom just outside the RV and set up an exercise pen. Betweentimes, she and the dogs can relax in a climate controlled, less hectic place. She can bring her own food. Most importantly, she has her own toilet.

Also, we can use the damn thing during power outages and other disasters. So it ought to work.

a lot of people have been led to think a knife is less of a threat than a gun. It is probably that old line about "taking a knife to a gunfight". I know some serious gun guys, guys that are master IDPA shooters. The ones I know, will tell you a knife is more dangerous if the attacker knows what he is doing. I only point this out because it is an utter fallacy that a knife is less dangerous somehow. It is only that a gun is normally a defensive weapon, and a knife is an offensive weapon.

Not commenting on that particular situation because it is the first time I have heard of it.
