There is one other facet to its appeal: it's upbeat and fun and the music videos are usually some kind of acid-fueled technicolor nightmare. Compared to the desultory, slow, nearly monotonic music populating the domestic Top 40 and the boring, desaturated music videos that are usually paired with them, it's pretty wild.

But pretty boys dancing around appeal to young girls, and pretty girls dancing around appeal to young boys. So, that's universal.
