Swamp-Infested Commission on Presidential Debates Unilaterally Decides That Next Debate Will be "Virtual;" Trump Says He'll Hold a Rally Instead, Biden Says He'll Have a Forum Where "Citizens" (aka Hand Selected Democrat Plants) Can Ask Him Questions
They've decided that they like the presidential race in its current form and will use every tool at their disposal to freeze it in place.
Biden announced that he will hold a town hall in "an appopriate forum" (aka "a leftwing news organization") and will answer "citizens' questions." These "citizens" will be, of course, the media's sort of "citizens," which is to say, intense leftwing partisans and Democrat operatives. And obviously, the "questions" will be pre-screened, if not outright written for the "citizens." And Biden will be given a rehearsed answer to them. And even with all that -- we'll still see him reading the teleprompter.Comments

As soon as the last debate ended, Democrats began demanding that the "Moderator" be given a kill switch over anything Trump said. Trump very correctly said "no way, we never agreed to that." The "Virtual" format automatically gives the Dems the kill switch they want, Trump is correct to refuse to be part of it.

It's not that people are sheeple. It's that many people actually desire to be told what to do and think. Taking orders relieves one of all the hard work of living.
Virtue-signalling is one's public display of loyalty to the greater authority (GA), typically a moral authority, that removes all moral ambiguity and makes life a mindless breeze (except for the 5% who live by personal ethics). Display then becomes the passport to general acceptance.
Unless the GA needs a scapegoat for its inevitable and fatal programmatic failures. Then arrest, trial, and execution of the wreckers can hit anyone.
But as the probability that any specific person takes the hit is low, no one will see the danger to themselves when someone else is hoisted to the gibbet.

Here is my conspiracy theory:
They wanted to get Trump to cancel the debate so they could blame it on him. They seeded the White House with the virus so he would get sick and have to cancel and look like his take o n the precautions was disastrous as this is the only issue they have. They did not count on him recovering so quickly so he could be on the debate stage on the 15th so they had to comeup with another reason for Trump to cancel. They knew he would never agree to this.There it is.

The time to demand a restructuring of how the moderators are selected for 2024 was 6 months ago. Still, better late than never.
I would start with the demand that rather than leaving moderator selection up to the Commission, which is clearly biased, each side would select a questioner for each debate. That would finally dispense with the threadbare fiction that the moderators are unbiased. No more "journalists". You might as well use the DNC as your selection pool. The questioners are assumed to be advocates for the side that selects them. That's fine with me, since that's the way it works for the Dems anyway.
Better still is to dispense with moderators altogether, but that won't happen.

Yeah, I'm doing virtual meetings all the time for work, and it's more exhausting then pointless in person meetings, which I didn't think was possible.
There's always a bit of a delay, occasional buffering issues, and something just ... weird about it. There's also something about it that makes people talk over each other more then they would in person, which complicates things even further.
Plus, I'm on camera, so I have to stare at a computer screen the whole time (which also means there's no "virtual" eye contact either, which is kind of odd.)

I think there should be moderators, but they should be a panel of partisans. As you mention, the press-sourced "non-partisan" bullshit is exactly that.
And do you know why? It's in the CPD's rules:
The moderators are selected by the CPD several weeks before the debates. The CPD uses three criteria to select its moderators: a) familiarity with the candidates and the major issues of the presidential campaign; b) extensive experience in live television broadcast news; and c) an understanding that the debate should focus maximum time and attention on the candidates and their views. The moderators alone select the questions to be asked, which are not known to the CPD or to the candidates.

Most of the public, having received zero help from leadership anywhere outside FL and SD, and marinating in science-free idiocy from the WH task force and CDC, as further distorted and emphasized by the "press", will mostly just nod.
Dr Atlas is quoted this week as saying he didn't come to do the WH gig because of politics, but because "the country is off the rails". An incredible, and yet absolutely appropriate, statement.

David Axelrod said something very insightful in like 2014 or so -- that there really aren't large groups of undecided voters out there. That campaign consultants in DC make it seem like there are 10-20% of the population who switch back and forth on who they are going to vote for kind of on a whim, because that makes them (the consultants) valuable, and that's how they make a living.
He said that they ran both of Obama's campaigns on the premise that those undecideds didn't really exist, and that the key to winning an election is turning out your base.
Trump seemingly took a similar strategy in 2016.
I think a lot of people in DC make a lot of money pretending that there are a fuckton of swing voters, when it really is as simple as getting people who already generally agree with your candidate to actually vote.

Because, as the CDC has recently admitted, and has been common sense all along -- covid-19, like most respiratory viruses, exists in the air.
So if an infected person exhales, there is an amount of time after they exhale the virus that it's just floating along in the air in microscopic particles. Which is why most spreading seems to happen indoors, at home (we're all breathing the same air), in nursing homes or other places full of people that don't have expensive and high end air purifiers and is less likely to happen outdoors (wind dissipates the air quickly.)
It also means that masks are pretty much useless, unless we're talking about everyone wearing medical-grade respirators at all time, which we aren't.

I actually think Trump should do a virtual debate. The temptation for Biden's camp to "help" Biden off-camera will be too tempting and the odds of them getting busted is high. If Biden gets busted in a live debate reading off a teleprompter or getting any sort of assistance off camera he's toast. Done.
And like I said it's going to be all too tempting for his team to help in some way. They will think they can get away with it or that the media will help them.
Holding rallies and whatnot isn't going to help Trump as much as him landing some blows against Biden directly in a debate.

Pence did a good job basically ignoring rigged questions and just landing punches to kamala, Trump could do the same in a town hall format.

Yep. For the most part I agree. Sure there's swing voters but enough to go either way? The dems have turned off a lot of voters I think. If there are no debates, Trump's only ways to get any sort of nation-wide audience are doing a town hall on CBS or NBC (he did one on ABC a few weeks ago), or buying an hour of prime-time on all three broadcast networks if he can afford it. If he does the latter, I expect Fox and all other cable channels would get permission to run it live. Unknown if XiNN and MSLSD would run it live in entirety.
I vaguely recall Trump buying a 30 or 60 minute early prime-time block at about this point on the calendar in 2016. I'm probably wrong.

The reason respiratory diseases spread so easily and quickly every year is not because sick people are sneezing all over everyone, it's because the virus can survive in the air for some period of time before it falls to the ground and eventually dies.

People that have not filled out an absentee ballot can often get it wrong because of issues like witnesses being required such as SC, in PA, ballot has to be in a secrecy envelope, and so on.
It can be a challenge to those not that interested in voting which is why Dems wanted ballot harvesting to allow "helping" the voter get them in.

I don't know if I believe that. Last night I took my dog for a walk right after the debate. In my 'hood, houses are pretty close to the street, not a lot of front lawn space. So you can see inside easily if there are no blinds, which for some reason few houses have. If there's a TV on you can see what's on. Seemed like every other house had a talking head on from one of the networks.

You and the rest who've commented on this are correct - I looked up the NYT story and yes, it was a "militia" (with 6 whole guys in it!!!) and it had been "infiltrated" by an FBI informant. I would not be surprised if their defense at trial is "Hey you know it was the Informant who wrote all that stuff about getting Whitmer and who sent it around to all of us." And the Prosecution will say "well yeah, but they didn't condemn it loudly enough."

I had just assumed Hillary would win (but I always thought it would be way closer than the MSM polls said) and then Trump pulled out this magnificent victory.
Maybe it happens again, but it's hard for me to ignore all polling. I did though read somewhere that according to RCP, Trump is actually outperforming in the battle ground states to where Hillary was at this same time.

I loath polls and don't believe them. But what they are doing is comparing them to 2016 and adjusting where they think they went wrong.
To me, logically, if your starting point is wrong, you need a new map. Again, that's just me.
The rub seems to be the sampling they use. I can't speak for individual models, but they are saying they've now adjusted sampling, but I still see a lot of over sampled Dems.
I rely on people like Dave and TJM to break down the samples and call BS.

Ironically, NY had (not sure that it is current), a provision that their state minor parties could either run their own candidate or endorse one of the major party ones.
