Will Kuwait Be the Next Country to Sign the Abraham Accords With Israel? White House Announces Surprise Meeting

Chanel Rion of OAN (@ChanelRion) reported:

BREAKING: White House announces surprise meeting with Head of State from Kuwait, 11:45am EST. Followed by Press Briefing from President Trump.

Now, there wasn't any announcement of Kuwait joining the Accords.

Trump gave a medal to him, the Legion of Merit, which is conferred by the president only on foreign heads of state.

The reason for the medal is suggestive: It's for seeking a peace deal with Qatar.

resident Donald Trump has bestowed a top U.S. honor on Kuwait's ruling emir, who has played a central role in resolving a yearslong four-nation boycott of Qatar and is now ill and receiving treatment in the U.S., the White House said Friday.

Trump awarded the Legion of Merit to Kuwait’s Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, who, along with Oman, has sought dialog to end the dispute that has torn apart the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been part of the boycott that’s targeted fellow GCC member Qatar since June 2017. Egypt also joined the boycott, which saw nations close their airspace and borders to Qatar.

"A leader in the Middle East for decades, the emir has been a truly unwavering friend and partner to the United States," the White House said in a statement. "The emir is also an unparalleled diplomat, having served as his nation's foreign minister for 40 years. His tireless mediation of disputes in the Middle East has bridged divides under the most challenging circumstances."

Maybe it's a coincidence that he's praising him for "bridging divides" and "mediating disputes" in the Middle East just as the Accords were signed, and Trump suggested that "five or six" others might sign on.

Maybe it's not a coincidence.

Maybe the medal was given to provide a plausible cover for a visit to the White House that the emir doesn't want the public to know about yet.

Speaking of the Abraham Accords: Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of the leftwing rag The Atlantic and the guy we're supposed to believe regarding the absurd claims about Trump insulting dead soldiers from World War One, poor-mouthed the accords, which Obamabots do not like because they firm up the anti-Iran alliance and the Obamabots want to make Iran the regional hegemon, for reasons that they've never been able to -- or perhaps, willing to -- explain.

He then says the Accords are a win for "authoritarians," such as Trump and Binyamin Netanyahu, but a loss for Iran and the Palestinian Authority, which are, apparently, not authoritarian governments.

Who knew?!

Here's Sundown Joe's surrogate John Kerry saying it's a "hard reality" that there could be no possible separate peace between Israel and countries of the Arab world unless you first struck a peace with the Palestinians.

He says this was impossible.

Ed Morrissey noted that John Kerry is therefore crediting Trump as having achieved "the impossible" and having overcome "hard reality" with his bold, outside-the-box thinking:

Call that the "Palestine First" plan -- a plan which has not worked for seventy fucking years.

Trump attempted the "Palestine Last" plan -- get peace deals with other Arab countries first. Those deals will dry up Palestine's terrorist donation pool, and thereby pressure Palestine to finally give up terrorism and strike a deal with Israel.

Will that work?

Well, so far, it's working a lot better than the bullshit that the bipartisan (which means "liberal") foreign policy establishment insists is the only possible plan.

Have you begun to notice that every single fucking thing the bipartisan (which means "liberal") foreign policy establishment tells us is 100% dead wrong?

Oh, speaking of corrupt, stupid liberals who are always wrong about everything:

Remind me again why we're supposed to seek out "wins" for Iran and the Palis. . .?

They both hate America, and have found a myriad of ways to express their "Death to America" sentiments.

If there's one modern foreign policy mindset I would love to see finally stomped out by Trump is it this: we're only allowed to intervene when we have no interests; if there are American interests in getting involved it is somehow vulgar and we are above such things.

Kuwait is going to be one of the hardest "gets". They're more distanced from the Saudi's than they other gulf states are, which is why they still talk to Qatar (who's sided with the Iranians) plus they have a large Shia population (I think about 40%) which sympathizes with the Ayatollah's. So they are nervous about upsetting Iran.

The Palestinians have no other use or value for Kerry, Obama, and all the rest, going back to 1947.

Hope there's a good plan to take back or neutralize those B60 nuclear bombs at Incirlik Air Base.

238 I can tell you why the left prefers Iran hegemony over Arab state hegemony.

Because the US has never been great or too involved in this kind of stuff, or understanding what's going on around the world.

So the conventional wisdom about everything is inherited from the British Empire's views on everything from the 1940's / 1950's when we took over being the worldwide diplomats / peacekeepers.

And the British in the 1940's preferred Iran because:
a) Iran was a British ally, and where a lot of British oil was being pumped from (the arab countries were closer to the US, and we pumped oil from them)
b) the persians historically (as in, like, pre-islam times) were the regional hegemons and people that had a track record of running the middle east.
and
c) the Persians were seen as more "european" or whatever then the Arabs were.

In fact, Persia changed it's name to Iran (the Farsi word for "Aryan") on the advice of the German ambassador to stress that Persians were European, not Arab.

tl;dr -- our "elites" are just dumb dumbs, and have no real reason for a lot of what they do and think other than they heard it somewhere.

319 So the conventional wisdom about everything is
inherited from the British Empire's views on everything from the 1940's /
1950's when we took over being the worldwide diplomats / peacekeepers.

And the British in the 1940's preferred Iran because:

a) Iran was a British ally, and where a lot of British oil was being
pumped from (the arab countries were closer to the US, and we pumped
oil from them)

b) the persians historically (as in, like, pre-islam times) were the
regional hegemons and people that had a track record of running the
middle east.

and

c) the Persians were seen as more "european" or whatever then the Arabs were.

In fact, Persia changed it's name to Iran (the Farsi word for
"Aryan") on the advice of the German ambassador to stress that Persians
were European, not Arab.

tl;dr -- our "elites" are just dumb dumbs, and have no real reason
for a lot of what they do and think other than they heard it somewhere.

=============================
Well, that's part of it. But I think the main reason is that nearly half of the US-British Lend Lease supplies delivered during WWII to the Soviets moved through the "Persian Corridor". The Soviets occupied a big chunk of Northern Persia to facilitate the transfer of goods to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. The Persians wanted iron-clad guarantees from the Soviets, British and American governments that all foreign personnel would leave the country after the war. The Brits and the US fulfilled their end of the bargain, the Russkies did the same, but only after a lot of pushing and shoving by their former allies.

I was anti establishment before antiestablishment was "cool." I had many online argument's during the Bush years (mostly in forums) with both Republicans and Democrats over the range of popular issues.

My observation was that the Republicans would actually argue their points, some might be won over, or at least we arrive at an agree to disagree but an acknowledgement that my points did exist.

The Dems were about 100% emotion and feelz. When they got to a point they couldn't refute they would simply ignore it - fingers in ears and eyes closed. They would ignore the "Hey, how about a response to my point" follow up posts. When faced with cognitive dissonance they simply hit the off button and move on to the next feelz point.

I would bet that Jarrett and Brenan were not the only one who felt that way within that oh-so exclusive foreign policy elite/think tank circles. As with his other policies, Obama did not originate the Iran deal idea, he instead surrounded himself with pro-Iran people who used his presidency to implement it.

This is honestly what I would do if I ever became president.

I would fill my cabinet with every thorn in my side senator, work closely with their governors to get better replacements, and then fire the entire cabinet and start again.

You could never do it more than once and any leak of it ever would undo it, and you'd piss off a whole lot of people in the process, but I think it would end up being worthwhile in the long run.

To be fair to China, I can relate to their frustrations with the Uighers.

I'm not sure they're handling it in the best possible way, but I love how the narrative in the US is that this all came out of nowhere and China is acting like crazy people, when the reality is that China has been dealing with a Muslim jihadi problem coming from Xianjing for a long time and it's going from being a nuisance that took place out in the hinterlands to an actual problem throughout China now.

431 I think Kuwait is on a short list of next countries to agree to sign. Morocco. Oman. Sudan. Malaysia. Bangladesh. Pakistan. That makes seven. Tunisia. Iraq. And a player to be named later.

The real question is who won't sign. Iran, Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Lebanon, and Libya. That's about it. It is in everyone's best interest all the rest sign. And soon.

This will be a drip drip drip - every week a new country with normalize relations, and as each one goes, the pressure on the rest increases.

REALLY want this thing to fly? The U.S. and Israel should be hooking these countries up with a lot of very tangible and immediate benefits of the relationship. Investment, most favored nation status, tech transfers. Cement the ties economically, quickly, so any pull back becomes painful.

And reproach Egypt and Jordan - see if you can warm things up for them. Get some real economic development and benefits.

They're trying to (maybe have already started) build a massive resort city on the red sea.

So they're making baby steps in the direction of being known as a fun destination instead of a backwards, crazy, terrorism funding hub of extremism.

We shall see how successful they are.

Wayne should have gotten an Oscar for that. Probably the best directing (Ford) and acting (Wayne) that year. I forget what movie actually won the awards that year, but in retrospect, "The Searchers" still stands up.
Wayne, at times, really comes across as sinister in that movie. He was not some happy guy out a -shootin' Injuns.

And the Cavalry trilogy

Trump fights for what is best for America, and keeps fighting, or finds different deals with different groups. Why should we provide so much clout/money, and always accept the terms of marginal players or "globalists" seeking their own interests?

Which is odd, because if the KSA recognized the State of Israel, the only thing that will do is bring to the surface what has been going on all along. The Saudis have decided the Iranians are a bigger threat than the Israelis (which they are) so they have been working with Israel on the DL.

But then, that might be the clash between the old and new school in the Saudi royal family.

To Egypt's credit, they have been getting fed up with the Palestinians and have been known to shut their border with Gaza. It might be closed even now. The big thing with Egypt is that they will have to open up their economy and reduce state control drastically. If they do that, Egypt wil make lots of headway.
