And in states that still did not mandate masks, they are following the same fucking trajectory as the states that are, peaking in July and now trending downward. So regardless of masks or not, the patterns are almost universally the same in all states.

And now that the data suggests that there is no asymptomatic spread, it's the number of people with CLI (Covid-linked *Illness*) that matter. Which is vastly less than 1.4% of the population.

they gave a helmet, a flak jacket, an M-16A1, two whole magazines of
ammo, and sent me to be the armed convoy guard on a shipment of M1
Carbines for the ARVN.
I thought about asking for more ammo,
but I correctly guessed that if we got attacked by the VC, that I
wouldn't live long enough to change magazines. I did wonder if the M16
was properly zeroed. At least I had enough sense to ask for a cleaning
kit, and made sure it would function properly.

I think, judging by the data in Texas and elsewhere, that we are going to find that the lockdowns of April and early May *Did* stop the spread of the virus; but at the cost of just postponing the peak until whatever date the lockdown ended.
To put it more simply, it looks like the total number of people who were going to catch it is the same no matter what strategies are followed; the only real question is, do you want to deal with these over 2 months, 6 months, or a year?

I was actually thinking today that the curse of Identity Politics is the main reason why the Democrat "talent pool" is so pathetic. Most of their leading candidates got there by being "historic firsts" (women, gheys, black, Muslim, Hispanic, Native American, or whatever). Of course that's a flat out lie, as there have been many of ability of all groups in this country.
But their very obsession with identity politics means that their upper ranks get clogged with these talentless shmucks whose chief qualificaiton is whether they take in the front or back hole, their melanin, etc. This leaves the real "leadership" to a few backroom, deal-making inside baseball types (think Pelosi and Schumer). But their "front office" is a mess, because their hiring criteria suck.

I agree with you. But I'm looking at it from their point of view. If you believe your candidate is a sure loser, you try to start mitigating the damage. That means trying as hard as you can to separate your House candidates from the Biden campaign.
We should be able to pick up on this if true. How many house races do the Dem candidates tout how important it is to also vote for Biden? Or do they go quiet and try to keep the race a local affair.
I haven't seen any attempts to nationalize the race so far and tie the entire slate of Dem candidates to Biden. The entire campaign so far (and convention) has been OrangeManBad. They have been silent on all other races, both Senate and House.
The RNC on the other hand has been candidate after candidate being put in the spotlight.

So it is possible to win an American presidential election without debating. It is not without precedent. I suppose refusing to debate probably would hurt Biden, but it isn't guaranteed. His base and his campaign obviously want him to skip debating, after all.
