I'm Not Boycotting Major League Baseball – I’m Repulsed By It [Buck Throckmorton]

Watching or listening to baseball on a summer night has been a habit of mine for most of my life. I tuned in to the Covid-delayed opening weekend and was so offended by what I saw that I haven’t tuned in again. In fact, I canceled my MLB-TV subscription and requested a refund this past week.

I’m not boycotting Major League Baseball – I’m repulsed by it. All the left-wing slogans on the pitcher’s mounds and uniforms was probably enough to turn me away. But seeing the players overwhelmingly take a knee to profess their hatred of the USA and then slander the fans as racists made me sick. I could no more cheer for these ungrateful ballplayers than I could cheer for Covid.

Have you ever had a girlfriend (or boyfriend) betray you to be intimate with another? You initially feel angry and broken-hearted, but when she offers you the opportunity to come back and once again shower her with affection, the only feeling you feel is revulsion. That is how I feel about Major League Baseball. They called their fans racists and figuratively spit on the American flag. And now we’re being told it was just an opening week tantrum. They want me to tune in and spend money on them again, even though they hate me and my country.

Something else that is really disturbing to me is that aside from the American-born players - who were taught to hate this country by the US media and our broken public school system - my team includes players who escaped the communist paradises of Venezuela and Cuba. They escaped communist Hell-holes, became multi-millionaires in the United States, and have a fan base that loves them and has made them rich. In return these communist refugees disparage this country, dishonor the flag, and call me a racist. Yuck.

I think back on how MLB permanently damaged itself with the 1994 strike, which resulted in no World Series that year. Baseball attendance took years to recover, and the World Series as a shared American event died then and there. My circle of family and friends all used to watch the World Series every year no matter who was in it. That all ended in 1994. Pretty much no one I know watches the World Series any more unless their team is in it. I don’t. In addition, before the 1994 strike I would drive three hours to the big city to attend a game at least 5 or 6 times per year. Since then, although I still watched baseball on TV, I’ve often gone several years without attending a game in person. There was permanent damage from the 1994 strike. There will be permanent damage from baseball’s 2020 anti-American spectacle.

A funny note to end this post – when I called MLB-TV to cancel and get my refund, the polite gentleman in India who I was talking to inquired as to why I was canceling my service. I told him I was deeply offended by the players’ anti-patriotic demonstrations on the field, therefore I was not going to watch any more MLB. He replied, “Oh yes. That again.”

MLB decided it wanted to be part of the 2020 culture wars? Fine. I am happy to let the ungrateful, America-hating MLB players get a taste of being cancelled. That’s how the culture wars work, right?

10 My revulsion/boycott refusal to consume now extends to the vast bulk of American culture. Our movies, our sports, our TV, our popular music, our news, our journals - all of it is destructive shit. The product sucks. It's message sucks. It's intent sucks. It's goals suck. It's outcomes suck.

I am still always on the lookout for good music, but I am no longer on the lookout for anything else. I just don't consume it anymore. It's a big world, and not everything that comes from everywhere sucks.

13 And yet, somehow, they still haven't caught up to the sheer disgustingness of the NBA.

Which is less a positive about MLB than an indictment of just how far gone the NBA is.

All the big sports are going SJW. Joe DiMaggio and Joe Namath wouldn't recognize their respective sports any more.

We had a set of tickets for this year and when they decided they were not going to allow spectators, they gave us the opportunity to get credit for the tickets plus 50% additional credit to be used towards games next year. This was after Opening Day and all the knees, etc. Nope. Straight refund for me please, and I am done unless and until they stop kneeling and apologize for having done so.

Which means, I fear, that I'm done.

37 The EU is straight-up evil.

Why?

Because the most extreme sentence that anyone could serve for the worst imaginable sexual crimes is just 7 and a half years.

Right now, the worst child-rape pedophile case in European history is opening in Germany, and the main perpetrator -- the leader of a pedophile ring who committed HUNDREDS of documented baby-rapes, in addition to countless other horrifying crimes of pimping out his own baby daughter to OTHER pedophiles, and then making and distributing THOUSANDS of extreme baby-rape videos -- is facing a MAXIMUM possible sentence (if he is convicted of all the crimes) of only 15 years, of which he will only be required to served HALF -- i.e. seven and a half years.

In an earlier trial, one of his fellow pedophile rapists was already convicted of similar crimes, and got a mere 10 year sentence, and will be out on the streets in FIVE YEARS:

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-53813249

These sentencing rules are partly constricted by EU regulations, so all the countries in the EU have similar lenient sentencing.

Why? Because in this liberal utopia, prison itself is considered "cruel and unusual punishment," and any and all extreme sentences are banned. There is even a movement (as in the US) to end the prison system in the EU altogether. Except in the US, this movement is led by wild-eyed extremists; in Europe, it's lead by bloodless bureaucrats and "experts."

Of course, in a sane world, all these rapists would be field-executed on the courthouse lawn 5 minutes after the guilty verdict.

I found that I like a lot of the dramatic story telling in Korean television, especially the revenge tales (those people know revenge). What I found most surprising - so much so that it stood out like a sore thumb to be as a foreigner - is how much they *don't* hate their culture and hate their values. It's hard to see when you're deep in your own cultural products, but we *hate* ourselves. It was really surprising how much this is not true elsewhere.

Our culture is diseased and broken. The masters of our culture are hateful and self-loathing monsters who want the culture to die. It's obvious in everything they produce - but it goes way beyond what I noticed before I started consuming other people's cultural products. It's both blunt and subtle. It's sickening and it's destructive.

128 It was no surprise when ESPN hosts revealed themselves as far-left wing about all.

But I have to say it was a surprise when some of the sportscasters who tried to pretend they were just regular guys or girls decided to go all-in on leftism this year. Dan Patrick, Petros and Money in LA are two examples. It's amazing that--after what happened to the NFL--they'd still commit suicide.

But they did--it's the age of Trump, after all, and he's the great unmasker.
What's fun is college footballl--the suits are desperately trying to destroy it, but several leagues saw it coming, and took action,
And now its coming to light that the Big -10 (who cancelled) has a lot of teams who are claiming there was no actual vote to cancel, despite what Dan Patrick reported. And the Big 10 commissioner's son is going to play for the SEC, even though his father is telling everyone in the Big 10 it's too dangerous to play.

132 Meanwhile, in Australia, in the Australian state of Victoria, they're having an "outbreak" of Covid-19. The outbreak is pretty mild by rest-of-the-world standards (a mere hundreds of cases, not tens of thousands of cases as elsewhere).

But this new outbreak completely mystified the government, because BEFORE it even started they had imposed the most extreme quarantine rule of any jurisdiction in the world: All travelers entering Victoria state were REQUIRED to stay in prison-hotels for 14 days, to ensure that they were disease-free before being allowed to enter into the community.

And this forced quarantine was STRICTLY enforced -- all returning travelers all they crossed the border were escorted by police directly to the hotels, and armed guards kept them there. No exceptions.

So -- how in the world could there be an outbreak?

So the government commissioned a study,. They traced the DNA of every single Covid case in the state. The results were just published today. And they discovered -- OOOOOOPS - -that ALL the cases traced back to the prison-hotels, where infected travelers gave it to -- the guards and staff! :

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-53806500

So, by instituting this mandatory quarantine system, the Australian government actually CAUSED the outbreak, by setting up mass-infection petri dish nexus points.

If they had just let everyone go home and stay there separately, there wouldn't have been an outbreak.

Example #14723 of "Government intervention always makes things worse."

140 Buck, I was lifelong baseball fan. My dad, who passed away 20 years ago, taught me to enjoy the game in person and on the radio when TV broadcasts were rare. Growing up listening to Chuck Thomson and Bill O'Donnell call Orioles games on the radio, while in the car with my dad or playing catch (yes, it's "playing catch" - not "having a catch"!!) with my dad -- some of my most cherished memories. I also became a Dodgers fan because of the greatest baseball announcer ever -- Vin Scully.

My love for the game started waning with the shrinking of the strike zone. Then more so with the over-emphasis on analytics. Exit velocity and launch angle -- I get it, but enough already! IT's not a video game. Great hitters like Pete Rose, Rod Carew, Tony Gwynn, and my favorite Kirby Puckett -- they wouldn't even get a second look from scouts today.

But this baseball lover since the mid-70s is done after the stuff you mentioned. It's sad.

If I am on a red state baseball team, I request to wear an "All Lives Matter" patch on my uniform. When they refuse, I ask why the MLB front office allows RACIALLY EXCLUSIONARY patches on my required uniform, but will not allow neutral slogans.

After, they offer up same lame rationale, sue for tens of millions of dollars of future lost earnings due to a hostile workplace on one of the explicit items (race) for which you are not permitted to discriminate. Presumably, my red state team is not in a marxist run federal district and my lawsuit is allowed to proceed normally.

I loved going to Safeco Field, now T-Mobile Park, to watch the Lou Piniella Mariners of 92 to 02. Great baseball (finally!), star players (The Kid, Edgar Martinez, Jay Buehner, Randy Johnson, Ichiro, etc) and all, but the real star was the new stadium itself.

Could see the field of play and the bigscreen nearly anywhere from the stadium, and walking around after sitting in the seats for an inning or two was my standard fare. Great views, and most importantly, people watching and mingling. Always a great view of Puget Sound on the 300 level on the 3rd base side. And the barbeque vendor, on that 300 level at the end of the 3nd base side, best BBQ pork in the stadium.

I even went during the Bavasi and Zurincek years, because the baseball was truly terrible, but the experience was still top notch. Finally stopped going the last two years. I can drive 30 miles south to Tacoma to see AAA baseball, for about a quarter or a third of the cost.

But MLB baseball? No longer. I haven't watched a single inning this year of the fake baseball.

I can't ever see spending my money to support people that obviously hate me. That's just dumb.

198 Yup. My old man was a Bronco fan even before I lived in Denver, as he'd been out here in the 70s and became a fan. We moved here as a family in the early 90s, as the Broncos were fielding one of the all-time great NFL teams, so unsurprisingly, I picked up the habit.

I watched them every week for 23 seasons until they decided it would be cool to shit all over people like me. Stopped cold, then and there, and haven't been back.

A big part of the value in sports is a shared experience. In a country with very little of that, it filled a niche. They decided to join in the rest of society's schismatic breakdown, which was likely inevitable. But join in it they did, and they chose cultural Marxism and racism, and they'll just have to carry on without me.

But, I can't be the only fan who's saying "fuck you, then." I just had less patience than most last time around, and am hoping this latest foray into Communist agitation will cause significant financial harm to the various leagues as more fans abandon them.

It probably won't happen, though.

221 do you have any links to these transgressions? I will look them up but some link to the players calling Americans racist would be interesting.

I have often said I am now down to the PGA Tour and PBR. I wan't to see what the Cowboys do in the NFL because everyone knows their owner does not buy this stuff. But even that team knelt, but not for the anthem. My assumption is Jerry will be forced by the league and the players to bend the knee in one way or the other. Either way, they are part of the NFL, and the NFL only wants to divide and destroy their fans.
Golf Digest and some other rags excitedly pointed out that a golfer openly supports BLM. The man's name is Kirk Triplet. He was a nothing when he was a something. He is 58 and plays the Senior Tour/Champions Tour. He was always a journeyman at best.

I don't hold this against golf because these guys are independent contractors. When counting all the tours, you have several hundred guys in the US alone. But Triplet is the ONLY won to come out in support of Marxism. He is very much the exception that proves the rule.
One last thing. Triplet has a black son. He might believe there is a real problem than needs to be fixed. I will give him that, though I don't think much of his comprehension skills.

Posted by: bluebell at August 17, 2020 04:42 PM (/669Q)

That was the first game of the Chicago/Edmonton series, in Edmonton (only Edmonton and Toronto are hosting NHL games); there was an entire pre-game ceremony devoted to wokeness. The player was a Filipino-Canadian player from the Minnesota Wild team. He gave a speech, knelt for the US Anthem, and stood up for the Canadian anthem (he was the only one to kneel). Each of the Blackhawks and Oilers have a black player who is also Canadian, and they stood beside each other with their hands on each other's shoulder.

None of the Cubs knelt. NONE. To be sure, the only Am-black regular they have is Jason Heyward and he refused to diss the flag and anthem.

None of the Brewers knelt either, which is a bit more surprising since they have more Am-blacks.

But I do remember that night we switched on ESPN to check out a West Coast game. Dodgers at Giants, IIRC. Turned it off within 5 minutes.

Because of the venue and the object. One is supposed to stand at attention for the flag, not kneel. You do not submit to the flag, or genuflect. You stand at attention, of your own power, and look it in the eye because it's right.

That is why they knelt. Not in respect or submission, but in defiance because it was the wrong thing to do and they know it.

I used to be a die hard Raider fan too. Adopted them as a kid because of their uniforms and their badassery. Then the Colts left Baltimore and I stayed a Raider fan for a long time. Even through the horrible years of the mid 2000s. I soooo wanted them to trade away the 1st pick that they wasted on Jamarcus Russell. They coulda traded down and taken Joe Thomas. Yeah, that's what my nephew thought. He's a pretty serious mid-level pro gamer complete with yootoob channel. Made the mistake of mentioning that he was a Trump supporter on one of his gaming forums.

They went through his tweets for years, to find a couple from 8 years or so ago *when he was a minor* that were well, racially problematic (which is actually common among the sniper community he's part of).

He got savaged, and his team told him that if he wanted to stay, he'd have to do a yootoob vid apologizing for his past tweets AND for being a Trump supporter. They bargained down to him doing the apology only for the tweets, so he did the video.

They kicked him out of the team anyway. Cocksuckers.

Basketball is another matter. They seem to be shoving it in your face more. No word on the NFL yet.

We will see.
Posted by: Tommy V

They may not be pushing it as on Opening Day (huh?) but it is still out there. A lot of "new" fan sites push aspects of "woke" and BLM ideas on the fans (baseball).

Of course the NBA is about 97% African-American, and is the most woke league in America. It's been woke, and has been "woke" for quite a while. It is actually HARD to watch a game. As in, I am not watching, but if you happen to skip across it, it almost hurts to watch.
The NBA will be fine with its TV contracts and endorsements, and a lot of people will forget. But I don't watch it anymore.

Ditto the NFL; about 70% African- American, and getting "more" woke all the time. As someone cogently stated, this doesn't start on Draft Day. A lot of college players are "woke", and it is an open secret in college locker rooms. It will spill out on the field in the near future for college football, and probably high school football too.

If someone (player) wants to speak their mind, they are free to do that. But I resent the obnoxious "taking the knee" nonsense.

This asshole Joey Votto that plays first base for the Reds (my team for most of my life), from Canada, decides he's "woke" and takes the knee on "Opening Day".

Screw that looser. I am done with that BS.

350 In Joe Biden's bio (and in Jill's) they claim they first met on a blind date in 1975, after Joe saw her photo on an ad in an airport and told his brother she was the kind of woman he'd like to date, and his brother gave Joe her phone number.

Jill's ex-husband claims that both he and Jill worked on Biden's first senate campaign in DE in 1972. The ex-husband (Bill Stevenson) says that he was suspicious of something going on between Jill and Biden when Jill didn't want to go to New Jersey with him to meet Bruce Springsteen (whom Stevenson was booking to sing at his music club in DE) in the summer of 1974. Stevenson says Jill told him that she had stuff to do, including looking after Joe Biden's motherless sons (his wife had recently been killed in the car accident, which happened in Dec. of 1972).

Stevenson also says that he and Jill had done some of the 1972 senate campaign work for Joe Biden from the kitchen of the Biden family home.

So Jill was a woman who had worked on Biden's 1972 senate campaign, who had babysat his kids after his wife died, and who had been in the Biden family home doing campaign work in the 1972 campaign, according to Jill's then-husband Stevenson. But both Biden and Jill claim that they didn't meet until 1975.

Stevenson (who had married Jill in 1970) asked Jill to move out of their home in the fall of 1974, after he found out from his mechanic about a minor auto accident Jill and Biden had had in Jill's car, while Joe was driving it.

When I first read the ex-husband's account, I assumed that Biden and Jill had lied about when they met to hide the fact that "decent" Joe Biden was having an affair with a married woman. But now I'm wondering if they were hiding something else too, like maybe the fact that they started their affair right after Biden's wife died? Or maybe even before she died?

True, and they moved that tourney to Mexico. I doubt that was a coincidence. But they have sponsors too and we can see what sponsor can do, just check out the Redskins/Washington Football Team.

They did a survey a couple decades back and the players self identified as Republicans by a rate of well over 80 percent. Today, with so many foreign players, and young players who came out of the lefty school system, I would guess that number is no better than 70 percent R.
But at least when you are watching it, you don't see the Kow Towing. The media wants to sew racial division but it never works. They will always be angry at Tiger for not getting down for the cause way back when. They always harass Harold Varner III with questions about being black on tour. For the most part he doesn't play along. This new guy Cameron Champ is getting press from some promoting him as African American. He did have a black grandfather and the rest white. Just look at a pick of the guy. The press will always push golf because they hate it as elitist. USA today has a horrible reporter that only goes to The Masters to ask loaded questions about race and sex. She could not give a damn about the golf itself.

443 The most pleasurable part of cancelling is getting to tell the person on the phone why you're doing it. I've thought that multiple times about rags like the New York Times - wishing I had a subscription just so I could call to tell them why they're losing me forever as a customer.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the big dogs of the MLB meet next month to review their August subscription numbers and see the line item illustrating how many fans they lost forever due to their newly "woke" state.

Posted by: Another_F-ing_Karen at August 17, 2020 05:16 PM (KhImm)

444 But deep down I can see why the NFL and NBA are doing what they are doing even though I disagree.
The "hired help" is overwhelmingly black.

I don't see why they cave to those dumb asses. Is there a shortage of black guys who want to play professional sports in this country?

They could all be replaced in a day, if one were so inclined. Just announce open tryouts in major cities. You'd probably get thousands of guys trying out.

OK, maybe they wouldn't be quite as good (then again, maybe they would). But what makes sports interesting isn't so much the level of play but the competition. In some respects, it's more fun to watch who aren't the very best, because it adds a bit of uncertainty even to routine plays.

445 it may be good for America to move away from some of the prostituted sports arenas ... and away from other prostituted mega-Korpse. More attention to youth sports, perhaps with less attention to the concept of going to The Show ... (but they should still keep score, and have winners and losers, not everyone gets a trophy.)

And if that doesn't get rid of it, well, we just need to lock down HARDER again and again and again, because we're not being vigilant enough. Not wearing masks and leaving the house and doing normal things is akin to murder. As for "Sweden," well, they're just exceptionally clean people, and really, can you believe their stats?

455 378 The Biden family has a sordid history.
Would you be surprised to learn that Hunter fucked Dr Jill? That the first wife was the one who was drunk?
_______________

I don't know if they tested the first wife's BAC, but the cop who responded to the accident scene said that it looked like she had run the stop sign (or the light, I forget what it was) at the intersection. The truck driver was tested, and he was not drunk or drinking.

Mrs. Biden had three small kids in the car and was coming home from Christmas shopping. The boys were probably fighting in the back seat, and she got distracted or turned to look at them and didn't realize she needed to stop.

It was sad what happened, but for Joe Biden to slander and disparage that poor truck driver, who himself suffered depression and trauma from the accident his entire life, was despicable. And if Jill Biden's ex-husband's account is accurate, Biden was bopping the married Jill even as he was giving interviews and making speeches about how grief-stricken and hopeless he was over his wife's death.

But remember, Trump is the sleazy, unprincipled character and Biden is the guy who has always been decent and honorable. (Although how anybody could believe that when Biden has a con-man, grifter, whore-monger son like Hunter is a mystery. Where do people think Hunter learned to behave the way he does?)

459 I'm down to watching one sport these days. Golf. So far, I haven't seen any Woke shenanigans in the tournaments I've tuned into. The commercials are Woke as hell, but I never watch those anyway.

I stopped watching the NFL when the kneeling stuff first started a few years ago and haven't gone back since and don't plan to. I've been a baseball fan my whole life and the opening day crap this year disgusted me as well. I'm done and not going back. I was also a huge NASCAR fan for many years. The BLM car and Noosegate ended that this season. Haven't watched since and not going back.

I used to like tuning into sports to relax. It does make me kind of sad that this is where we are. However, I definitely don't need them and it's not a sacrifice for me to walk away from them. I can and have easily filled my leisure time with other activities.

470 I was a Yankee fan back in '94.

Don Mattingly was my favorite player at the time, and I really wanted him to get a World Series ring. The Bombers were on a tear that year, and I thought that this could be the time that it happened for him.

After the lockout that shortened the season, I was done with baseball. Turned down World Series tickets when the Yankees finally had that run of great baseball, didn't even watch after 9/11.

From that point in '94, it was easy to cut sports from my life. First baseball, then the Knicks, then football. Hardly watch anymore, so with everyone now cutting sports out I just don't care.

I thought about taking my son to a ballgame, first in Los Angeles, now back on the East Coast, so he could at least have that memory with me.

Looks like we're coming up with other memories.

I did email two days before Opening Day and told them to keep politics out of baseball or I'm cancelling MLB TV and never buying anything else again. You would think they'd have looked up my account by my email and see how much I buy per year (a lot) but I never got a response.

Just 5 minutes ago on Facebook I noticed a post from my hockey team bowing down to the real racists, as they pointed out how they have to do more to make up for their sins and give miter opportunities to minorities, ignoring the fact hockey spent millions in the 90s and on to try and get minority fans into the sport and they were just ignored. So now they have to again bow down and give jobs to people who don't want to watch their sport or be a part of it, just so they can join the wokeness brigade.

481 "that's how cancel culture works right?"

We need to do more than that. They want to bring their politics into our living rooms? Fine, we bring our politics into their living rooms.

The peaceful majority are irrelevant (google her speech). Cancelling your love of MLB is only ceding terrain in the culture war. It's like saying "well I never liked Atlanta to being with, you can have it".

What we need to be challenging is the fact that this PCBS has gotten into sports and entertainment to begin with . Would you put up with a White Priv Lecture to get your burger at the drive thru? No, you would be outraged at the audacity of the imposition.

485 I would like to let all know that the size of your Penis really matters in your relationship or marriage. I got married to my wife about 1 month after we met in a photo studio, we lived happily for the first 3 months of our marriage until my wife and I started having quarrels at home because I couldn't satisfy her in bed with my little penis. Actually my penis was very small, it measured about 4.5 inch long on erection and I am 51 years old. My wife said it was forbidden by the women of this world. My wife started sleeping with other men outside. Sometimes i will return from work without finding my wife at home and whenever i call or ask her where she was, she will always snub at me and sometimes just tell me to go get a larger dick. All this continued for a long time and it hurt me so much that I was at the edge of breaking up on the marriage till when I read about a doctor called DR.Moses Buba. online. I never thought i could smile and be in a happy marriage again if not for the help of DR.Moses Buba. I got the doctors Emailsbuba.herbalmiraclemedicine@gmail.com ) on the internet and i emailed him, and he got back to me with some encouraging words, he got me some herbs cream which i use for just 8 days and i began to feel the enlargement of my penis, and without surgery. This went on for a little period of about 10 days and to my surprise my wife keeps screaming that she loves my big dick now. Now my wife no longer cheats on me, and my penis is now about 10.5 inches long on erection and off course very large round. And now my wife uses breasts, hips and bums enlargement. I and my wife are very happy for the help rendered to me by DR.Moses Buba, and I want to say a big thanks to the Doctor for the help. 487 I actually decide to put on some of the Yankee vs Red Sox game, as the Yankees have always been pretty pro-usa and pro-law enforcement, and was surprised to see during the 7th inning stretch, where they play God Bless America, most, if not all, players were standing with their hats or hands over their hearts, and while sure most kneeling was during the national anthem, you'd think any protests would happen during this even more patriotic song, but everyone seemed to be showing respect.

I think on a player level in baseball there always been a much more patriotic nature, possibly because many do know how well they have it here, and it was much more of the MLB heads pushing the blm nonsense because they want some of that money the black community spends on sports. You have a few people who will completely bow to blm, but it won't be like the overwhelming numbers the nba and nfl have, due to their lockerroom culture of crime and stupidity.
