Even more so, The Prince is kind of an outlier. Virtually all his other political writings were in support of what passed for representative democracy in those days.

He wrote The Prince from his country home in semi-exile as a way to basically beg the Medici for a job after they had overthrown Machiavelli's beloved Florentine Republic. The Medici didn't trust him, since they'd arrested and tortured him a few weeks after retaking Florence, so they declined his offer of service.

In later years, Machiavelli would brag to friends about withstanding the "strappado" (the same torture that the North Vietnamese used to permanently disable John McCain).

At that point, Yates had no idea what the President was talking about, but figured it out based on the conversation. Yates recalled Comey mentioning the Logan Act, but can't recall if he specified there was an 'investigation,'" it continues.


That phone call became part of the FBI's justification to interview Flynn on January 24, 2017. Ahead of that meeting, notes show agents planned to get Flynn to lie in order to pursue criminal prosecution or get him fired.

And on that day, Susan Rice wrote an obviously ass-covering Email to Self stating that everyone agreed to go after Flynn "by the book."

But then, strangely, they did nothing by the book!

James Comey said something like, "I didn't think anything was really happening until the David Ignatius column."

The David Ignatius column was the illegal leak claiming that Flynn was being investigated for, you guessed it, the Logan Act.

So Comey almost certainly leaked that, and leaked it to create a feedback-loop media justification for the investigation.

And Obama told him to do that.

Even more so, The Prince is kind of an outlier. Virtually all his other political writings were in support of what passed for representative democracy in those days.

He wrote The Prince from his country home in semi-exile as a way to basically beg the Medici for a job after they had overthrown Machiavelli's beloved Florentine Republic. The Medici didn't trust him, since they'd arrested and tortured him a few weeks after retaking Florence, so they declined his offer of service.

In later years, Machiavelli would brag to friends about withstanding the "strappado" (the same torture that the North Vietnamese used to permanently disable John McCain).

Some of the world's worst code is written by scientists. Typically they view code as an exercise of applied intelligence , and not what it really is, which is a craft with best practices and whatnot. You or I might grit our teeth when some liberal gets elected president, but we'd say that the people are ultimately sovereign, so their wishes must be respected.

That would never occur to them. If they, or their chosen successor didn't get the position, the election was by definition...not legitimate...not because of the process...but because of the outcome.

Now, if they got honestly elected by the electoral college, well, they would say that is legitimate...because they ended up in the office.

But...if they lied, cheated, stole, conspired to get the election...well that too would be legitimate. Because what matters is they end up in office.
