Joni Ernst: I'm Tired of Liberal House Mangers Lecturing Us About the Ukraine When Four of Them Repeatedly Voted Against Providing Ukraine with Lethal Aid

Seems like the Nadler/Schiff/Lofgren Charm Offensive is working like gangbusters.

Thanks to Tami.

Meanwhile, playwright/screenwriter David Mamet says Trump has turned out to be a great president, and says the left's reaction to him is "psychotic."

Which I personally don't take as metaphorical. I take it as literal. And I agree.

"The reaction to Trump to me is fascinating," Mamet said. "And one day I started looking at it and squinted my eyes. If you take a Freudian analytical concept, turn it inside out -- flip cause and effect and see if the dream makes sense. So if we flip cause and effect, the reaction to Trump -- which is psychotic -- is equal I believe hydraulically to the reaction to a charismatic leader."

20 This is the crux of the Trump impeachment. If holding back lethal aid to Ukraine for a few months is Super Illegal, well it's time for extrajudicial killings of all the Senators who voted against it, and everyone in the Obama Admin's foreign policy staff. You can go down that road if you like. I'm fine either way.

33 We need to have Joe Mantegna and William H. Macy (two classic Mamet actors) do an empty-stage script-reading of the impeachment hearings, but as rewritten by David Mamet.

Mantegna: "Is it?"
Macy: "Is it what?"
Mantegna: "Treason?"
Macy: "Is what treason"
Mantegna: "Trump. The whole thing."
Macy: "The WHOLE thing?"
Mantegna: "The whole thing."
Macy: "Yeah, I think it's treason, why not, of course it's treason."
Mantegna: "But where? Where is the treason?"
Macy: "I don't know, why are you bugging me?"
Mantegna: "Maybe it is treason, but it's not the same 'it.' "
Macy: "What do you mean?"
Mantegna: "Maybe -- just maybe -- the impeachment itself is the treason."
Macy: "Do ya think so?"
Mantegna: "Maybe I do."
Macy: "Well then, maybe I do too."

Well, to be fair the aid was part of a larger package. Like 5-10% of the bill, maybe. So, the House Managers could weasel their way out by saying they were voting against something else in bill. The bill wasn't specific to Ukrainian aid only as I understand it.

Yesterday, my actions re-affirmed that "prejudiced" stereotyping always have a kernel of rationality:

Was walking down the street in San Francisco, and passed a fat black possibly-homeless woman who coughed right as a walked past.

I shrugged, as I thought to myself, "What are the chances that she of all people has been to Wuhan China in the last month? Zero. So -- no big deal."

Then I got on BART. A twitchy Chinese guy in his mid-20s got on at the next station and looked ill, and kept sneezing and making weird pain-convulsions.

I panicked and immediately got off the train (as did several other people), think to myself, "What are the chances that HE has been to Wuhan China in the last month? Quite high, actually. Best to avoid."

There are a lot of black men who have grown up hard. But... they still lack leadership and tactics, and their masters are too obviously using them as cannon fodder. It would be more one-sided than Mandela's military defeat in South Africa.

Mexican gangsters would do better: but living out Sicario daily would make the nation ready to kill anyone who still ate tacos.

117 Great post Ace!

Because I labored hard on the last post and want it to be seen:

440 401 Im starting to wonder if for the first 2 years the "experts" and experienced advisors told Trump not to go to march for life, and then at some point Trump started to think, you know... you guys are fucking idiots, why the hell should I listen to anything you say now?

Sort of like the Pentagon. I really think Trump believing the best out of everybody and the the old Bushie types he enlisted would help him, and now he's starting to realize everyone in DC is a fucking idiot including the people he hired.

I expect Trump Part 2 is going to be running the government by himself one year into his second term and we'll all be better for it.

Posted by: Two Weeks From Soyville at January 24, 2020 06:09 PM (+dsLj)

Oh I definitely think it's largely due to the election and he feels like he needs to shore up that part of the base. There's been some seriously fuckery going on in the religious part of the base with the Christianity Today stuff and probably a lot more I don't know about. Notice how quickly Trump hit back on that. He knows what's going on. Also important to note that the person who wrote that screed and anyone supporting it is a wolf amongst you and should be cast out to the outer darkness. The timing of it stinks to high heaven and they probably have some interesting deposits in their bank accounts that people would love to know about.

Do I think Trump is pro-life? I don't know, but I remember listening to the story he told about why he changed his mind and I found it plausible. I could see meeting someone who I thought was a fabulous person and then finding out they almost got aborted and having that change my views. It's believable.

Anyway most of it right now is politics because of the attacks on Trump from some "evangelicals". I wouldn't worry about it because he seems to be willing to try as hard as he can to deliver on his promises and he actually works to the goal. I have some reservations about the judges (they might end up being cucks), but I wouldn't be surprised if Roe goes bye bye some years after Trump leaves office due to the seeds he's planting right now in the judiciary. Lacking that, we could see some serious restrictions on the laws on the books now.

But my opinion of the congress as a whole is so negative that I think he might do more good for his "constituents" as a Baptist minister. There was one militant Atheist guy on a board who didn't share my political opinions, and he said "Why don't you get a REAL job"? (I guess that had to do with his not believing in a real God) If I was on that board with him now I'd probably say "A real job like what? Being a member of Congress?."

And I mean no disrespect to Lankford who may very well be one of the few good guys in the Congress.

I have "unlimited leave." I have never taken less in my life. It isn't because of pressure usually (sometimes, but rare) but because I'm kind of a workaholic and I just never think to do so.

When I accrued (previous job title - there's a changeover point), HR would send an alert E-Mail telling you that you were approaching your accrual cap and should take time off or you'll stop getting more.

Those E-Mails were the only thing that made me take vacation time. I used my accrued vacation as an insurance policy if I got fired (since it has to be cashed out). If I'm not accruing anymore, I'll cash in a week and stay home or take a trip or something.

Since going non-accrued, I take very little time off.

And Clinton's disastrous incompetence as president - apparently something not even noticed by most people who "hate him" for whatever reason - is kind of more important. Though Clinton *did* degrade the office and the country notably.

When Trump was nominated, Goldberg made a big deal about not having to choose to support him. That he could be against both.

At the same time, he also said that it was not in his financial interest to take a nevertrump position.

I think he bet his career of Trump losing and being able to pick up credibility on "being right" after the ashes had been sifted through. It was inconceivable to him that Trump could win.

Ever live is massive regret for a bad decision you made? Something that fundamentally changed the course of your life and wish you could change it? Like deciding to take that last drink and drive home, only to hit someone and destroy your life due to a DUI.

I am wondering if his frankly psychotic behavior, and grasping at insane conspiracy theories is his grappling with realization that he really screwed up, and can never come back from it.

But I saw it mentioned earlier today that Beijing has now put more people under quarantine (46 million) than live in California. At minimum, they're clearly worried at the possibility that this might be serious. The question is whether those worries have the potential to bear out.

At some point in the past ten years, as hard left campus bullshit identity politics took them over, the Democrats became convinced they could yell and bully everyone into submission by yelling and accusing via "racist," "sexist" etc., and it's gradually grown into the present where now they feel they can yell and accuse about anything and it'll work.

Not sure about dyed in the wool lefties - but since the left has developed many arguments against conservatives that the media has pushed out - the NeverTrumpers have adopted these arguments as there own, they've heard them hundreds of times and now they want to try them out on you. You push back using the natural logic that conservatives all have, and the result is NeverTrump brain damage - you see, they thought all this time that these arguments, even while defending against them - were pretty good arguments - but they're weren't and now their brains are permanently damaged - there is no cure.

Chinese references to a city can be a bit misleading, though. Almost every administrative district is referred to as a "city", even if it occupies half of its province. I could be mistaken, but Wuhan might be the equivalent of an American county.

298 You may well be right that Jonah bet it all on black and then wheel came up red and he has gone mad as a result.

My theory is that Jonah suffers from acedia and despairs that there is redemption after making a mistake.

Christianity offers this, through Christ. Orthodox Judaism offers this too, in its own way (Yom Kippur etc). But if you reside in the more-liberal wings of Judaism, you are a humanist at heart. Humanists are stuck with the deistic impersonal God and must rely upon fellow humans to forgive them.

And if you're a misanthrope, which many conservatives are, you don't trust your fellow humans to do this for you. [disclosure: I sure as #$ don't. look at how 'w Lover' / 'Sharmuta' from LFG is still treated right here. despite that she bailed from Charles' Mansion and hasn't said a word online in ten years.]

What else is Jonah going to do? And if he said "look, I'm sorry, I was wrong" would we believe him? I suppose there'd be a path to redemption but that is the thing with acedia, you don't take it.

312 "Politics" is (are?) the nexus of economics, culture, and psychology.
Any decent macro 101 class will tell you that half of economics measures human behavior.
Distill it down to its basest essence, human behavior is motivated by self-esteem, whether degrees of positive confidence or negative self-loathing stemming from however much inadequacy of the former. In the latter, those inadequacies consume the individual. After a certain point, so much so, that energy and motivation to change is so drained that frustration spills over. Something else is the problem. Somebody else is at fault. Somebody must be made to do something to assuage "this" thing I can't.
