CNN's Council of Geniuses Tut-Tuts at Justice Gorsuch Appearing for an Interview on Fox, Not Bothering to Do Any Research (Which Would Have Revealed that Gorsuch Appeared on CNN Three Months Earlier, With No Complaints from CNN)

Your Intellectual Betters, it turns out, are f***ing morons.

Justice Gorsuch gave an interview to Ainsley Earhardt on Fox & Friends this morning. The Justice was clearly doing the interview to promote his book which was published in September. But his decision to appear on Fox & Friends raised concern among some, including CNN’s Brian Stelter:

Stelter’s concern about partisanship is misplaced for a couple of reasons. First, the interview with Earhardt was a pretty straight affair asking the judge about his perspective on the law. There is even a segment of the interview in which Gorsuch emphasizes that he and his fellow justices rise above partisanship in their personal relationships with one another. Secondly, Gorsuch previously appeared on CNN for the same purpose, to promote his book. You can see his interview here.

Tater wasn't the only Clownshow Nonsense Network charity hire confused about the facts: Asha Rangappa, supposedly a national security "expert" despite only having worked at the FBI for four years, and widely known as one of CNN's most incompetent "experts," also had to step in to draw embarrassing attention to herself.

Yes, Asha, Supreme Court justices frequently give interviews on TV.

Surprised a legal expert didn't know that.

15 The Democrats just assumed that all they had to do was THREATEN to impeach Trump, and he would then voluntarily resign in disgrace -- just as Nixon did, before he was ever actually impeached.

In Nixon's mind, the shame of being impeached would have been greater than the shame of simply resigning.

Dems remember that vividly. So they now think that the mere THREAT of impeachment is enough to drive any Republican out of office, since the Republican would rather commit seppuku than be dishonored by his enemies.

What the Dems didn't bank on is that Trump is no Nixon.

Nixon was obsessed with his public image and his "legacy." Trump is like, Fuck It, fuck you all, all my enemies can eat shit and die, I will NEVER resign, never cooperate, never back down, never cave. The opposite of Nixon.

Now the Dems have dug a hole for themselves with no way out.

Nixon resigned long after the public abandoned him - mainly because the economy was in the toilet.

But certainly Trump handled things differently than Nixon which allowed Trump to retain support. The public also learned. And the country is much more partisan now, so even if the economy was in the toilet, Trump may have fared better than Nixon.

What a clown show.

After the public vote, if she refuses a ministerial act of transfer, McConnell will just take public notice of the vote and convene Impeachment trial in senate so they can formally dismiss the charges after declass.

There's not a move she can make up, that cant be countered with another made up move.

The problem is that once the House passes impeachment and the Senate bats it away, she's done.

If they do "double secret impeachment," even their allies will get bored and angry.

In fact, a lot of the Never Trumpers who are all "Yeah, do it! The stigma will be forever" are going to be utterly miserable and whining that something else must be done two weeks later when Trump is still doing rallies and nothing substantive has changed.

They also lose all their "bombshell" reports because people will wonder what about the last batch.

Basically, you only get to lose your impeachment virginity once, and they're starting to realize that sloppy seconds won't poll nearly as well.

184 If they dont transmit, Mitch should just open the trial, and put a deadline on prosecuting the case, before the senate would vote based on the evidence gathered in House transcripts etc. There is nothing the House could do to stop them.

--------------

I believe Mitch would do this. Transmitting the articles are procedural formalities that are no where to be found in the Constitution.

That being said - the NeverTrump PowerLine guy made an argument as to why this could be a good thing - mainly that it puts a big asterisk on this impeachment and is basically an admission that the House doesn't really believe it.

That is certainly one interpretation - and I don't necessarily disagree with it.

But I don't think Mitch would allow it.

Regardless, I am of the opinion that no matter what strategy the Dems employ going forard - they lose, Trump wins.

As someone said, impeachment is a ministerial act and once voted upon is fair game for the Senate to dismiss. Furthermore, by these stupid antics, even Mitt and the Wobblies will have to vote for dismissal as there wont' be any public fig leaf for them.

The only thing left would be to table the whole damn thing which I do not know if that is possible with the rules but maybe an appeal to the chair can override that. It has been too long since I looked at Cannon's manual and current house rules.

Its hard to make too many comparisons between the two. As you noted, the economy is much better. We are much more divided and partisan. And we have the Clinton example that changed how impeachment is perceived. Still the Nixon impeachment serves as a guide - basically do not give in and fight instead. But fighting is easier when your base stays with you. Had Trump abandoned his base - such as by passing some big lefty gun regulation - things would be going different.

The impeachment of Andrew Johnson was initiated on February 24, 1868, when the United States House of Representatives resolved to impeach Andrew Johnson, 17th president of the United States, for "high crimes and misdemeanors", which were detailed in eleven articles of impeachment. The primary charge against Johnson was violation of the Tenure of Office Act, passed by Congress in March 1867, over his veto.

Yeah, I remember those gas lines.

Worked at the time for Dad's business, a parking and service garage in Tacoma, an old garage that the attendent had to park the cars, not self-park. Got a limited amount of gas deliveries, and all the regulars suddenly wanted to buy a tank of gas, when normally they would get it in other places for a few pennies less.

It was a true pain in the azz to deal with many of them. Often, Dad just taped a sign on the pumps "Out of Gas". We weren't. But the few customers that always bought gas before the crunch would somehow know to stay late, and after most were gone for the evening, I would pull the cars down one by one and fill them up. Usually 5 to 10 cars a night.

It was all just a coincidence.

392 Fun story about Andrew Jackson that isn't widely told (although it should be) He was sent down to South Georgia to fight the Seminoles, who causing trouble on the border. Jackson thought that the English and Spanish were encouraging them. He wasn't given much support from Washington, so he had to raise most of his army himself from sympathetic locals.

when some Indians Jackson was chasing scooted back across the border into Spanish Florida, Jackson said fukitt, I'm going in. One thing led to another, and Jackson's army ended up attacking the Spanish fort in Pensacola and taking it. He also executed two British citizens he'd captured who pissed him off.

Official Washington was horrified that all on his own, without orders, Jackson had put the country on the brink of war with both Spain and Great Britain, and wanted to Court Martial him. BUT - then the Spanish admitted that they had so much trouble in the rest of their empire that they couldn't defend Florida, so they just sailed away, and after two decades of Napoleonic Wars the Brits weren't ready to start anything either.

The best part was when everyone in Washington realized that Jackson had built an Army, personally loyal to him, that was actually bigger than the regular US Army at the time. That's when they decided the only thing to do was to Proclaim him a Great Hero, Invite him to Washington, and throw him a huge Parade. (even though they all still hated him)

410 Trump has an Andrew Jackson painting in the Oval Office.

He put it in the spot where the MLK statue was, after he smashed it and paid Russian hookers to pee on it, as I recall the media reporting it.

424 I hate the NeverTrumpers impeachment comparison to Clinton. Nothing alike.

One had actual perjury and obstruction of justice and not made up stuff. I guess we could have overlooked that like we overlooked Obama's far worse treason.
Posted by: Easy Andy at December 18, 2019 05:35 PM (4SgJh)

This^
I want to scream every time I hear a Democrat( and Republicans for that matter) say that the Republicans impeached Bill Clinton for having an affair. Which is totally false. He committed perjury to a grand jury while in office in which he was being sued by a former Arkansas staffer for sexual harrasment during her employment. During the impeachment inquiry his subsequent and previous sexual affairs were exposed, accusations of rape were finally posted in the media from Juanita Broderick, and then came Linda Tripp's information regarding Monica Lewinsky. Clinton went on national TV to pronounce to the nation that he hadn't had sexual relations with "that woman", not one time, and of course, that was proven an absolute lie when she turned in a blue dress with Clinton's semen stains on it to investigators.

So it was the absolute evidence of Clinton's lies to the nation and to the grand jury.
