Global Warming Strikes Again!

FIFTEEN INCHES of snow reported in Winterset this morning. I just turned on the front porch light, and the drifts have taken over our whole front yard.

Now I'm not saying that this is an epic blizzard, but the pack of wolves rampaging down our street hunting for unlucky morons who dare go out in the elements are all wearing little knitted booties on their paws.

I was promised Global Warming. Where is it?

LOL, today it is in SC. Supposed to get to 72°F here today. Problem is that it is storming like hell. We are getting a thunderstorm right now and there is a tornado watch out.

But tomorrow supposed to get 27°F. And to all you porr folks living up there in the North, there is a reason that when I sent out resumes after I got out of the Navy that none went to a location any higher than Southern Tennessee.

In addition none went to any area with a city larger than 15,000 people.

29 The thing that I find funny is that the U.N. crooks are saying that even though the U.S. is experiencing cooler than normal weather, the rest of the world is heating up.

They like to push that crap out there when there are only two places that have an accurate temp monitoring system, the U.S. and Europe. So where are they getting this data for the "rest" of the world? It comes from that magic tree that absolutely refutes all of the real world data that was collected.

The same thing goes for NASA. Markey on TV yesterday lying his ass off. He maintained the climaquidick emails mean nothing because NASA shows heating. Evidently the stupid cockholster didn't read that NASA's chief source for their fraud was also implicated in the emails.

45 And as far as hottest year, around here this was known as the year without a summer.

Good morning Alex. Same here. This has been the coldest summer that I can recall since moving here in 1977.

In any case, last year about this time over one of those slow posting weekend days I did an experiment for local mean temperatures and found that the monthly averages for Oct and Nov were about 2.5°F lower that the numbers during the same months 10 years earlier. I published that and several Morons from different places all over the country did the same thing for their areas. They ALL came out lower than the previous 10 year numbers. The NW in the Seattle area had the largest drop with a 5°F average lower temp.

Of course those numbers haven't been "normalized" by NASA or NOAA.

55 This is the nub. Vast swathes of the US, Europe and Australasia were cool to chilly to record-breakingly cold this year. And yet, we kept being told that the global temperature anomaly was positive, and that such and such a month was one of the hottest ever, and that the year as a whole was in the top 5 warmest on record. Why? Because all that cold weather in the parts of the world where, you know, people live, was counterbalanced by relatively warmer weather somewhere in teh middle of nowhere in Siberia or Svalbaard or places like that.

If populous industrialized countries spend the year 5'C colder than usual, while Svalbaard heats up from -40'C to a terrific -25'C (numbers pulled from my ass, because I can't be bothered looking them up), that's a pretty pathetic type of global warming.

LOL, had to "Bing" SPAC because didn't recognize that acronym. I don't think it was around then but I could be wrong. We worked 12 hour shifts for 7 days/wk then got a couple of days off. Those couple of days were usually dedicated to drinking cheap beer and whiskey.

60 First of all, doesn't it seem a tad convenient to say that the earth was hotter in places where NOBODY IS? We're supposed to buy that? Yeah, you may have been colder but we have a thermometer being read by a marxist in asia that says something else.
The medieval warming period produced so much more food than before that the population exploded leading to the plague, rise of cities, end of feudalism, crusades, etc.
I don't believe it's warming,I don't believe that if it is warming (which it isn't) it's man-made, AND I don't believe that if it's warming and man made (which it isn't) that it's a bad thing. It's probably a good thing especially in those areas that grow food instead of sand.

Posted by: dagny at December 09, 2009 08:59 AM (B/wKD)

61 Pouring rain here (2 inches per hour expected) after snow last night. Major slush on roadways, with flooding likely. 43 F at present, can live with the temp but could do without the 40 mph winds.

Apropos of Vic's comment about cool summers, this summer was the coolest around here for the past several years. Not a single day above 88, and we usually have about 10 days over 90 in an average summer.

It hasn't really snowed here for the last 5 years so my just 18 year old doesn't believe it will and thinks he should be out driving in it. 75 #60,
"First of all, doesn't it seem a tad convenient to say that the earth was hotter in places where NOBODY IS"
There's more truth there than you know. For example, today's Washington Post has a top of the fold/A1 story on Climate Change in Australia. It's 100% false, but since so few know which end is up in Oz, the story gets legs.
I was involved w/a similar WaPo hitpiece last year when they A1'd a story on the previous winter being "completely snow free" in parts of Eastern Europe. I emailed photos I had taken the 1st week of Jan that year in Budapest, Bratislava, and a few other towns cities (some showing over 1.5 meters snow)
The then ombudsman replied to me that my photos were "unvetted" and therefore "questionable".
They're not interested in either "truth" or "reality".

81 Ah, Vic that is seriously messed up.
Well, my husband just left for his second day of attempted travel. How's the weather in Ohio?? Sunny and warm, right?
You would have to see how it snows in upstate NY, especially that year. On the typical morning all you saw in the parking lot of the apartment that I lived in were snow covered humps. You would find "your" hump, brush snow off the fenders and look at it, seeing the correct color you commenced digging. After I got it dug out, I brushed the snow off the driver's side door and got my key in it only to find the door would not open. Clearing the glass I saw that it wasn't my car but it was the same shape and color.
As for Ohio, I wouldn't know. It has been a few years since I have been there. I am in SC. And it is warm and rainy here.

We're doomed the Radical islamist wants us to party like it is 899, and the Democrats want to undo the industrial revolution....

88 Yeah, we got it. Hubby is out breaking in the new snowblower so the dogs can get out to pee! Though I'm one of the few who can get to work today, as I'm only about 2 miles away from the mall, I'll probably get a call to stay home because nobody is out shopping.

89 With the publication of damaging e-mails from a climate research center in Britain, the radical environmental movement appears to face a tipping point. The revelation of appalling actions by so-called climate change experts allows the American public to finally understand the concerns so many of us have articulated on this issue.
Climate-gate,” as the e-mails and other documents from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia have become known, exposes a highly politicized scientific circle — the same circle whose work underlies efforts at the Copenhagen climate change conference. The agenda-driven policies being pushed in Copenhagen won’t change the weather, but they would change our economy for the worse.
The e-mails reveal that leading climate “experts” deliberately destroyed records, manipulated data to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, and tried to silence their critics by preventing them from publishing in peer-reviewed journals. What’s more, the documents show that there was no real consensus even within the CRU crowd. Some scientists had strong doubts about the accuracy of estimates of temperatures from centuries ago, estimates used to back claims that more recent temperatures are rising at an alarming rate. This scandal obviously calls into question the proposals being pushed in Copenhagen. I’ve always believed that policy should be based on sound science, not politics. As governor of Alaska, I took a stand against politicized science when I sued the federal government over its decision to list the polar bear as an endangered species despite the fact that the polar bear population had more than doubled. I got clobbered for my actions by radical environmentalists nationwide, but I stood by my view that adding a healthy species to the endangered list under the guise of “climate change impacts” was an abuse of the Endangered Species Act. This would have irreversibly hurt both Alaska’s economy and the nation’s, while also reducing opportunities for responsible development.
Our representatives in Copenhagen should remember that good environmental policymaking is about weighing real-world costs and benefits — not pursuing a political agenda. That’s not to say I deny the reality of some changes in climate — far from it. I saw the impact of changing weather patterns firsthand while serving as governor of our only Arctic state. I was one of the first governors to create a subcabinet to deal specifically with the issue and to recommend common-sense policies to respond to the coastal erosion, thawing permafrost and retreating sea ice that affect Alaska’s communities and infrastructure.
But while we recognize the occurrence of these natural, cyclical environmental trends, we can’t say with assurance that man’s activities cause weather changes. We can say, however, that any potential benefits of proposed emissions reduction policies are far outweighed by their economic costs. And those costs are real. Unlike the proposals China and India offered prior to Copenhagen — which actually allow them to increase their emissions — President Obama’s proposal calls for serious cuts in our own long-term carbon emissions. Meeting such targets would require Congress to pass its cap-and-tax plans, which will result in job losses and higher energy costs (as Obama admitted during the campaign). That’s not exactly what most Americans are hoping for these days. And as public opposition continues to stall Congress’s cap-and-tax legislation, Environmental Protection Agency bureaucrats plan to regulate carbon emissions themselves, doing an end run around the American people.
In fact, we’re not the only nation whose people are questioning climate change schemes. In the European Union, energy prices skyrocketed after it began a cap-and-tax program. Meanwhile, Australia’s Parliament recently defeated a cap-and-tax bill. Surely other nations will follow suit, particularly as the climate e-mail scandal continues to unfold.
In his inaugural address, President Obama declared his intention to “restore science to its rightful place.” But instead of staying home from Copenhagen and sending a message that the United States will not be a party to fraudulent scientific practices, the president has upped the ante. He plans to fly in at the climax of the conference in hopes of sealing a “deal.” Whatever deal he gets, it will be no deal for the American people. What Obama really hopes to bring home from Copenhagen is more pressure to pass the Democrats’ cap-and-tax proposal. This is a political move. The last thing America needs is misguided legislation that will raise taxes and cost jobs — particularly when the push for such legislation rests on agenda-driven science.
Without trustworthy science and with so much at stake, Americans should be wary about what comes out of this politicized conference. The president should boycott Copenhagen.
The writer was the 2008 Republican nominee for vice president and governor of Alaska from 2006 to 2009.

Actually they are mostly upset that the "powers" have decided that with a major recession in progress that the citizens will not stomach sending huge sums of money to third world dictators.

This conference could be a good thing. If these third world asshats get too po'd they could start ratting them all out and exposing the fraud on a scale that the media simply can not ignore.

After all, if they are not getting their cut, why should the big ears get his cut.

I have no idea how much snow we got, but I know that when my big ol' German shepherd mix couldn't hold it any longer and had to go out last night, it was up to her armpits. She loves cold weather, and it's normally hard to get her back inside when she goes out to play in the snow, but I swear she had a look on her face that said, "Oh fuck!!!! 105 97 PP,
yeah let's keep the debate honest....

the contention is that man through his original sin of technology has caused "global warming" the window necessary for snow is 32 degrees or so with the normal atmospheric conditions that lead to that ground condition....
now we had several mild winters back home in Ohio that "proved" "abrupt climate change" but when those same areas experience their "weather norm" it is evidence that the "global" warming took a detour and decided to hide 200 degrees or so of heat increase in the geological equivalent of a "backyard".....
actually that kind of nails it....

the warmists are asking us to believe that the US is somehow colder but the Gobi is warmer because that's why and for proof they use the equivalent of taking a city block's temperature readings off the guy who has a bonfire raging in his backyard's place....

110 99, etc., my point is that Iowa is "normally" cold in winter, and not just hovering around 32degreesF, so conceivably it could be warmer now than it would otherwise be, but still well below freezing.

I'm not saying this is true; simply that "heavy snow in December in Iowa" is not dispositive of climate change.

116 Can't compete with the tales of 1 foot+ snow, but waking up to 1/2 inch of slush covering everything was also a nasty surprise. 132 126 ~ Jess

We're in flyover country, so I'm guessing....no.

I mean, it's just been reported as the worst storm in what, 20 to 30 years? No big deal, we oughta be used to it. Just like PP would ignore the fact that we enjoyed a toasty July and August this year (why, I think it hit 70 a coupla times, didn't it? It was a nice break from all those 60's highs and let me put my light jacket away for a few days), or last winter we had that long streak of temps hovering around -40 before the wind chill kicked in.

Forget about the floods about two years ago following another year of heavy snow. I don't think that made the news out there, because there weren't any fake reports of cannibalism in Cedar Rapids or Des Moines from Anderson Cooper/Shep Smith to sex it up.

Yep, nothing to see here, it's all flukes, move along please....it's still getting warmer in the Gobi Desert and Bangladesh needs the international climate change tax money more than anyone else and that's all that matters.

Besides, Iowa....Idaho....Ohio....all those states with too many vowels are pretty much all alike, right?

Where I live (upper peninsula of Michigan) we are notorious for heavy snow. Lots and lots of it. But this storm (18 inches so far) is lots more snow than we usually get . Our yearly total is 175 inches, or there abouts, but the snowacumulates between November and May-so even for us, this is unusual. In fact, we rarely get school snow days-they only cancel school for extreme temperatures (usually -7 and below) but today is a snow day.

Well, it depends on what there definition of fixed is, doesn't it.
If fixed means reducing unemployment and raising real wages, then indeed, Obamacare will NOT fix the economy. If fixed means setting up a technocratic structure where loyalty to the government party is the primary means of career advancement and a large body of people are kept on the government dole to ensure the election of government party hacks, then oh yes, Obamcare will indeed fix the economy very well.

161 11 degrees here. Every day this year I look at the weather and the warmest days in history are always in the 1930's.

But remember when O said you can't eat all you want or have your house at the temperature you would like because the other nations just wouldn't stand for it?

Bow down.

162 5 degrees with 5" on the ground here

163 It is now 67°F with the sun shining here now. I can feel a porch rocker day coming on!

164 Flagstaff AZ had 20 in. of snow yesterday. Highest one day snowfall on record. We here in Alpine, AZ had 18 in. I'm out on my deck basking in the glow of the sunshine reflecting off the 18 in. of climate change.

165 Approaching 71°F now. Feel that chair calling!

166 My brother-in-law took my oldest to work. She was one of 3 people who made it in to Sears today. As they were going into the store, a guy was coming out with a snow blower. She'll probably make some money today (they work for commission).

167 Around 80 in Palm Beach today. Rough winter.

168 buffalobob, I'm from AZ and I don't remember snowfalls like that up north. The guys running Snowbowl are probably the only happy ones in that part of the world.

169 oh. winterset, iowa. i thought winterset was some nerdy d&d thing you made up. like russ from narnia. now i see that it is more like dave in tx.

170 Record cold in Seattle yesterday and today. It was 6 degrees when I woke up this morning. The high is supposed to be in the teens.

171 As a self-respecting descendant of Dirty Skandis, I drove home from work faster than anyone else on the road, then shoveled my driveway the old fashioned way. 6+ inches of slop.

34F with light rain.

172 Just because we use daily weather events to "prove" a long term trend doesn't mean that you people can.

173 Why do the normally very PR and image savvy Global Warming types have their events in December?
Posted by: Jean at December 09, 2009 09:39 AM (pIKTP)

I was wondering that too.

Remember how much traction Al Gore got by testifying in the summer with the A/C turned off?

Someone should turn off the heat (or turn on the A/D) in Copenhagen. It would be funny to see pictures all the delegates sitting around in parkas.

174 I'm sorry. I take back my previous post.

I for one welcome our new Eco-lords.

175 University of Wisconsin-Madison is closed. Nineteen inches of snow, more coming down, and the blizzard conditions are just starting to kick in. High tomorrow is eight degrees, wind chill will take it to -20 to -25 degrees.

176 oh. winterset, iowa. i thought winterset was some nerdy dd thing you made up. like russ from narnia. now i see that it is more like dave in tx.
Winterset is approx. 90 miles from Waterloo so we're practically neighbors.

177 Please be advised that we discarded the phrase "global warming" some time ago. These days we prefer to talk about "climate change". Has your climate changed? It sounds like it to me!

178 University of Wisconsin-Madison is closed.

Well the blizzard is good for something.

179 I was promised Global Warming. Where is it?
Answer: Shhhh!!!! We are hiding the decline. How can you do this with fifteen inches of snow on your yard? Simple. Think like a liberal - ask yourself is that really snow or a product of the VRWC. Blame Bush, and then put on you swim suit and jump into your pool. When you get pneumonia, never fear, the democrats have passed the public option so that you can go to the local hospital for free care. Hint, you must speak spanish.

180 its always hee-larious when you pretend you don't understand the difference between weather and climate. You are kidding right, you do understand that those words aren't synonyms (that means words that mean the same thing), right?
