A 30-year-old man was choked to death on a Manhattan train Monday after he threatened straphangers, police said. Another subway rider stepped in and put the man in a headlock when he began acting erratically and making threats on the northbound F train just before 2:30 p.m., according to police. The man lost consciousness. EMS at the Broadway–Lafayette Street/Bleecker Street station were unable to revive him, cops said. A 24-year-old man was taken into custody, police said. It was not immediately clear if he would face charges. The man who died had numerous prior arrests for offenses including assault, disorderly conduct, and fare beating, law enforcement sources said.That story is from Tuesday when the situation was still somewhat fluid. But let's fill in some of the blanks shall we? The deceased – I refuse to refer to him as a victim – was black and the man who restrained him was white and a Marine. Add that to the fact that the Mayor of New York City is Eric Adams and the District Attorney is Alving Bragg.
The city medical examiner has ruled the death of a homeless man choked by a Marine on the subway earlier this week a homicide — as prosecutors mulled whether to pursue charges. A madman disguised as a construction worker turned a Brooklyn subway car into a bloodbath during the early-morning rush Tuesday, setting off smoke bombs before opening fire and wounding 29, officials said. But let's imagine if someone saw this fiend and put him in a strangle hold just before pulling the trigger. Yonder Horde.
I just spent 45 minutes diagnosing, troubleshooting and finally (I hope) fixing the damn Keurig machine. Wasted 4 pods. Did the needle cleaning, then did it again. Turns out the upper needle, the one on the handle had its seal messed up so it wouldn't properly seat on the top of the K-cup. It usually makes a little "pop" when it punctures the pod, but it wasn't doing that.

If my reading of the story is correct, a crazy vagrant with a lengthy criminal record was wandering the streets at least in part because of NYC's system of legalized crime. The vagrant started harassing and threatening riders on a subway. A bystander, fearing for himself or for others, subdued the vagrant. The vagrant died in the process. And in response, the NYC authorities are considering reversing their crime-is-legal policy to charge the bystander.
This kind of egregious double standard and arbitrary action is what causes vigilantism. They will get more, not less, if they proceed. They can crucify the bystander if they wish. They have the authority and power to do so. But it will just encourage more of the same.

4. All reported being worse off at 90 days.
5. All reported less issues after 9 months and 12 months. So after a year of therapy they felt better. Was it the meds or was it the therapy?
6. There is no report of who took what. How many were given dangerous puberty blocking drugs vs traditional hormones.

He repeatedly stressed the reality of the law vs what your instincts tell you is "the right thing to do". The reality is, if you pull your weapon (and God forbid actually fire it at someone), you better be able to "prove" that you were in fear for your own life or an immediate family member / loved one.
As I am teaching my boys about firearms usage and safety, we have MANY discussions about which scenarios should / would result in using a firearm toward someone. Need to know that BEFORE the situation arises. Same can be said for any other method of defending yourself - fists, chokehold, etc. Start with SELF defense, and proceed very gingerly from there.

The reality is, if you pull your weapon (and God forbid actually fire it at someone), you better be able to "prove" that you were in fear for your own life or an immediate family member / loved one.
As I am teaching my boys about firearms usage and safety, we have MANY discussions about which scenarios should / would result in using a firearm toward someone. Need to know that BEFORE the situation arises. Same can be said for any other method of defending yourself - fists, chokehold, etc. Start with SELF defense, and proceed very gingerly from there.

If you can get away, do it! If you can't, the hide behind something bulky / heavy. Fighting (or pulling a weapon) should be the absolute last resort and better be because you fear for YOUR life.

Then they federalize all the cops in the country, spend a year or two effectively cracking down on the crime - and during that, eliminate opposition within the newly-federalized forces, replace leadership, and get fedcops on every street corner in the country forever.

Several months ago there was an incident nearby. A home owner and another individual who did not live at the property got into a heated argument. The visitor was told to leave and he did not. Instead he made threatening remarks and charged towards the homeowner. The homeowner shot the visitor, but did not kill him. The Sheriff was dispatched, but did not arrest the homeowner. The visitor survived with a minor wound.
This is a very rural area. That the homeowner even called the Sheriff is remarkable.

Socialism works until you run out of other people's money.
From a spiritual standpoint, the building blocks are God, family, community. Traditional Values work to hold a society together. Only high-trust societies can flourish.

No, it *wasn't* normal. It is normal now. Anyone looking to flee a country who can get into any country in Latin America will do so and then head north. I saw a profile of a few people who did this from China. They go from China to a country with visa agreements with China - Macau (still China), Malaysia, Turkey, etc. Then they hop to an intermediate country like France or South Africa, that has visa agreements with the first country. Then they hop to a South or Central American country. Then they join a migrant caravan and head north.
The routes these people take to get to Latin America are often very convoluted, but once there they hook up with a train of invaders and make for the border. No coyotes, no smuggling structures of their own, etc. They just ride for free on the existing system. When they get popped by BP - they often walk directly to BP officers and turn themselves in - they make asylum claims, take advantage of catch-and-release, and melt into the interior.

That and I lay odds that they have topped out on what can reasonably be done with natural gas, particularly in terms of siting pump stations, distribution and storage.

I'm not sure that is even remotely possible. It literally takes hands-on to create wealth. The laptop class produces nothing of value except for the value-add of working out optimizations.
Food still needs to be grown, water sanitized, power generated/distributed, clothes made, couter-acting all of the natural forces that will consume anything left to the elements.
And all of the myriad of steps in the supply-chain to get there.
Seems to me, the disposable people are the ones who are orchestrating all of this. They create no wealth, they only consume it and destroy those who made it.

I think it's something different. We have a serious natural gas problem in this country, and it's related to fracking. When you frack for oil, you also get gas. We had a long fracking boom. Bush 43 helped lay the groundwork, Obama declined to ruin it, Trump accelerated it hard. We ended up with a *lot* of natural gas.
Too much, and so it sold for below cost. Better something than nothing. As a result, natural gas had been selling for under the cost of production for more than a decade, subsidized - in effect - by oil. Everything switched to it. Power generation, industry, home heating, etc. Now those conditions are over. Biden has destroyed fracking and there is a long tail on that even if the war on fracking ends. I think it's something different. We have a serious natural gas problem in this country, and it's related to fracking. When you frack for oil, you also get gas. We had a long fracking boom. Bush 43 helped lay the groundwork, Obama declined to ruin it, Trump accelerated it hard. We ended up with a *lot* of natural gas.
Too much, and so it sold for below cost. Better something than nothing. As a result, natural gas had been selling for under the cost of production for more than a decade, subsidized - in effect - by oil. Everything switched to it. Power generation, industry, home heating, etc. Now those conditions are over. Biden has destroyed fracking and there is a long tail on that even if the war on fracking ends. Now the party is over and we will need every cubic foot of gas for power generation and industry. Getting households off gas will relieve some of the supply pressure.

The problem isn't supply or reserves, it's costs. Gas has been hilariously cheap for a long time now thanks to fracking, and everything pivoted to use it. Now that fracking is being destroyed, costs are spiking.
You can have all the reserves on earth, but if you don't produce them then they never make it to market. The production out of traditional gas fields is continuing, but at a much higher price. Your county should have a website, which should be listed on the appraisal, where you can do an online protest. I've done this every year. Last year didn't work out well for me. The board was full of pompous assholes that ignored every quote and picture I submitted and raised my value even higher.
I would recommend doing the online protest, then just accepting their counter offer. If you go for the in face protest, you'll likely get screwed. It's not a good system anymore.

As I mentioned above, consider the Soviet Union. Those at the top of that system lived exceedingly well. The new ruling class took them as a societal model, but have spent decades thinking and working to “ tweak” that system to get the bugs worked out. The county has to register the transaction to maintain the deed. It's unfathomable that they don't know the purchase price. That stuff is public record, at least in every state that I have encountered.
It's easy enough to find out. Your tax bill has the assessment. Is the assessment higher, lower or the same as your purchase price? If it's the same or lower, your appeal will probably not go well since they will say - correctly - that the house is obviously worth that much since you paid that much for it and there has been no general housing price decline (unless there *has* been a decline, of course).

In other words (and I simplify here, because Tennessee only taxes a percentage of home value), if your house is with $100,000 and the tax rate is 2% you pay $2000.
But if your house is reassessed at $125,000, your tax bill is still $2000, and your effective tax rate is now 1.6%.
This is done to make sure that effective rates across that board are still forced to be done by the legislative process.
If your local government wants to raise more revenue, they have two avenues, encourage growth and expand the tax base or raise taxes by a legislative vote to increase the base tax rate and face the potential consequences at the polls.

Try it anyway. There is literally no downside to petitioning for a decreased assessment, at least not that I am aware of (but keep in mind that I am neither a lawyer nor a Texan). If the assessment is close to the purchase price, though, I wouldn't get my hopes up. It seems logical that a petition would be denied in that case, but I dunno.

The property taxes are one of the major factors in my removing OH from my list. Looking at the tax histories of properties, I saw these massive jumps whenever the house changed hands. I did some digging and found that the first post-sale assessment reset to around the sale price, and the millage was so high that it was a really meaningful difference, especially if the house had been owned for quite some time prior to the sale.
When I estimated the property taxes based on the likely sale price, I looked at the final number and said, "nope. It ain't gonna be Ohio."

In addition, an economic depression is typically a recession that lasts 2 or more years. If we have been in a recession for a year now, then come next year during the Presidential campaign, if the recession is still going, it would become a depression.
